This is my first boot animation. It's pretty simple, at only 15 frames. It's based on the RCA "Indian Head" test pattern card that was displayed on televisions pre 1970's while the networks were off the air. It's a bit before many of our times, but if you've played Fallout, Bioshock, or Black Ops, you've probably seen it.

adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media (rooted users. Back up your original first!)
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local (Non rooted)
Thanks again to 17akota for helping with the .zip formatting issue!
What are the permissions set at?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I assume you mean in the attributes.
In that case, read-only is un checked.
What did you use to put the bootanimation in the system/media folder? I use root explorer and long press on the bootanimation and select permissions and you want the boxes to look like this
[X] [X] [ ]
[X] [ ] [ ]
[X] [ ] [ ]
The x meaning checked. That's how mine works.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
There could also be a problem with how your zipping it. I'm not sure how exactly to do it but its a possibility.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
Ok. Trying that now...
Permissions wasn't the problem.
I'm zipping it with WinRar. I have winzip, but the evaluation period expired a looong time ago, so it takes ages to get the program up and running.
Hmmmm. When you zip the part0 and the desc.txt, are you compressing using "store" instead of something elce?

Compression method is set to 'Normal'.

try 'store.' that might be the problem.
That was it! Thank you!
Obviously a rookie mistake.
I hope you get it to work. I gotta go to work. Hopefully someone else can help you if that doesnt work. I told you everything that i would try. :/

Great animation man. It was feels good to also help another person out. I'm gonna work on my Xbox 360 and ps2 bootanimations maybe I can actually get them to work at full screen.

[EDIT] Well im done trying to make bootanimations till we get a custom recovery. this is the second time ive have to SBF because of a boot loop. :/
Wow. Didn't know a boot animation could get you stuck in a bootloop. Did you leave the bootamination-encrypted.zip alone?
Also, the XBOX 360 one sounds awesome!
XBOX....X is for XOOOOOM!
Before I try this I have a question.. I'm not rooted so I'll just push it, but there's any way to go back to the original one, cuz if you're rooted, just rename the original.
So can I go back to original of not rooted..?
Thanks.
Evo Better Than The Best...
Can someone reupload this file cause the original post had it at megaupload and well.... they don't exist anymore...
OP or anyone that has this could they post link again as megaupload is no more.

Lately I have been working with the Cronos Droid roms and themes but in the recent turn of events I wanted to contribute to the entire Hero community. So here is a new android boot animations which I think might be one of my best!
I will also try to specify the bootanimation.zip location on each rom but help is much appreciated.
Code:
[U][B]Bootanimation location on roms[/B][/U]
FroydVillain - /system/media
Cronos Froyo - /data/local
Cronos 2.1.x - /data/local
Hope you enjoy it and feedback is much appreciated.
Kind Regards
Swifty

bootanimation.zip - 5.8 Mb
bootanimation.zip - 2.0 Mb
bootanimation update zip - 2.0 Mb (cudos elelinux)(For roms using /system/media as bootanimation.zip directory)
Awesome nice work
Great someone liked it!!! The short version works great on FroydVillain and I see no increase in boot time. Also looks great!

I will try the short version in my rom, my kernel boot quickly also
Edit:Made a update.zip for the 2mb bootanimation here > http://www.statusuppdateringskomplex.se/elelinux/Bootanimation_Android_Frost_2mb_by_Swiftwork.zip
Now I have replaced the update script, it deletes all the likely locations and types of the boot animation, even the boot animation which is located in /system/customize/resource.
Location for zip is /system/media

About UOT-Kitchen.. seriously.. wouldn't it be much faster and comfortable to have an offline-tool that "cooks" the Theme-MODs? Just saying,... I could code it if a project like that is wished...

blood and animation scripted by me... background drawed by me and "Sarah" stolen from their website... yeah.
Is there any way you could make this into 320x480? I would really love to have this on my Optimus V.
Here we go, thanks! Sorry for the delay but I lost the update.
Sorry, i'll not do any size shrinks, because I cannot test it then.
But you can, of course, do the shrink yourself. Unzip the package. Use IrfanView to process both png folders (part0 and part1) to smaller sizes... then write the new size into the txt file that lies next to the 2 folders. Then zip the files (important) with WinRar and use NO compression (save-mode) or it will not run...
Thank you. I did that and it worked perfectly.

I want this on my EVO running evervolv android 2.33, but it does not install. Yes it is rooted. Is there something I should have installed first?
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
No there is nothing you have to install. The best way is:
First ADB remount
Start ADB shell
Use ADB with cd and ls commands to locate the place where your bootanimation.zip for your ROM is stored. Then rm bootanimation.zip there and exit the shell (adb exit) and push the new bootanimation.zip (with the name as it is) to the place where the other one was. Then adb shell and reboot to test it.
This should work. If not, try using UOT Kitchen...

Everything is working. Thanks to everyone who liked this!
For some reason it doesn't work on my WiFi Xoom, the screen just goes pitch black after the Motorola boot logo until I'm fully booted.
I looked at the PNGs within the .zip and it looks like a really nice boot animation, it just doesn't work on my Xoom for some reason. I've tried other custom boot animations and they've worked fine.

probably because it is .rar and not .zip?

huh...
thats weird... let me try something.
working now!
i reuploaded, downloaded and reflashed it. works on my wifi xoom. please try it again. sorry it was screwed up
let me know if its still giving you guys trouble.
Just downloaded and installed and all is well. Thanks a lot Verm!
For the newer folks that may be unsure how to install - download the bootanimation.zip and use Root Explorer (or equivalent) to move or copy/paste to /data/local.
After downloading, be sure that the file is labeled bootanimation.zip with no numerical characters or hyphens just before the .zip as it may not work. You can rename the file within Root Explorer by locating it and long press to select "Rename" and change back to bootanimation.zip.
Work like a charm, it looks beautiful on my Xoom. Thank you vermiciouskanid666!
Looks great! Thanks.
It's working great now, thanks! It looks really good, I'm definitely keeping this one for a while. Nice work.

Hey everyone, i just created a boot animation for my GT540, im a big fan of swiftdroid, anyway... heres my problem
i moved it to Root://System/Media
So i have 2parts in my bootanimation
Part0 which plays only 1 time and goes first:

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Part1 which loops and goes after part0:
Everything works good and i really like my work, but the problem is, I see Default Swiftdroid logo at the start for like 10sec, and only after few seconds my animations pops up, is there anyway to remove the Default swiftdroid logo so my new animation would replace the Default swiftdroid logo completely ?
If you guys can help me, ill provide link of my animation, and instructions how to install it :S
a video will describe my problem better ( sorry for low quality, i just didnt had a better camera to film it )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOtODDxYOUw my animation starts only at ~0:45sec
The swiftdroid logo is held in the kernel but if i remember there is a way to replace on the htc g1 ill have a look for you.

i dont know if it just on my computer but it look to me that part1 coud cause someone an epileptic fit.
@eoghan2t7
it would involve using the dump_image binay to extranct the boot.img. then decompiling it, replacing the image(i think it in the ram disk which also needs decompiling separatle), then recompiling boot.img and flashing it.

It is the initlogo.rle file that is shown on boot, it is in the root of the ramdisk. Just use dsixda's Android Kitchen to extract the boot.img file, much easier than manually doing it.

BTW, .rle is a bitmap-type file, but I think it is compressed, Paint and many other conventional tools cant open it, but I was looking somewhere and did find a converter, i'll have to check that out.

British graphic designer Christian Tailor created this animation of stylized Marvel and DC Comics heroes and villains, and now you can use it as the boot animation on your Android device.
Christian works as a motion Graphic Designer specializing in information graphics, and his current clients include Al Jazeera and UK-based TV network ITV.
Graphic designer and Android theme maker Brian Roberts took Christian’s animation and turned it into a boot animation, originally.
I have resized it for the Nexus 6 (Shamu)
