Is the screen rendered at native 1024x600? - Nook Color General

I got the Nook Color almost 1 week ago. And all the time Ive been playing with it, Ive always had the sensation than the fonts and images look weird. As if they were not rendered at the native 1024x600...
If that's the case, which is the point of having such a high resolution screen?

I can't say i have noticed this, but yes, the screen is rendered at 1024x600. Now, not every app has support for that res though, which can make things look a bit wierd sometimes..

Games on Diamond with odd resolution

Hello,
Ive downloaded and tried some games on my Diamond. Like SimCity SOciitiets Mobile. I just have one problem. The game starts and all is good, but it is just a small square in the top left. The game doesnt cover the screen? Its really really hard to see anything.
Can i change resolution or something? Some games does cover the whole scren, and some dont.. Anyone know why?

I suggest, because some are developed to support vga and some not?

I think your right.
Some support various resolutions, and screen sizes but not VGA. Whereas some will be full screen but ive noticed a bit fuzzy in quality as the image is being zoomed in to fit (if that makes sense?)
Is there anyway to force it to be fullscreen even tough its not 640x480?
Its seems that almost every java mobile game is for poor resolution. Ive tried the NVD software that changes the resolution. But its very hard to load the game after you have changed the resolution.. Anyone has any idea how to change the resolution on start of the game, and then go back to normal?
Any news on this matter?
Almost all java programs are not usable.

ggNES emulator explain please!

I've got it down now.
Please go buy this new emulator is blows Nesoid out of the water. It is called ggNES. The lite version isn't a good impression to be honest. It uses the trackball, the volume keys, etc and you can't map the keys.
I bought the full version and I've got the FPS's up to 115!!!!
Sound is a lot better
Just will take a few to get use to.
A lot of comments are badgering the app but they're just foolish I haven't seen a better emulator yet!
"FC" = Family Computer (commonly called by its shortened name "Famicom") home video game console in Japan but in the US it's called "NES".
Have yet to use the emulator so I can't help you there.
I got the lite version and i can map the keys just fine!

I just don't like how it scans my files when it starts looking for Roms. I have all my Roms in a folder with Subfolders so it should let you tell it where to look opposed to going scan happy.
I haven't really tested it other than that so far.
The sound and totally fullscreen is better than nesoid. However, the screen is pixelated. Nesoid looks more filtered. The colors are off on ggnes. People are getting high fps but frame skip of 2 is imposed at a minimum. Its choppy.

I'd suggest just playing around with it, turn off the high def.
And you can disable that rom search just tinker around with it.
Its not hard.
I prefer nesoid. Things I do not like:
Lists entire directory path
Odd screen dimensions (how is this better than Nesoid?)
No turbo option
Things I like:
Nice options, but screen options odd. Either squished on sides or top and bottom.
Frame rates show plus 60, but do not seem so. Besides, anything above 60hz is pointless with games designed for 50fps (PAL) or 60fps (NTSC).
The effort is appreciated and will be real good if noted issues are corrected. Since there already is a good NES emu. Perhaps time would be better spent on GBC, SMS, Game Gear and Turbgrafx?
actually this is runnin good.. u can change ur keys, i had it for 2 days and it updated twice ahh back in 4th grade memories
Lol I think it will more support for it will cause better emus later on. I think its better then Nesoid. I really like how you can key map and I like the fps running faster then 60.
I want to see a SNES emu from him so I can key map for portrait and play some good RPGS like Breath of Fire and Chrono Trigger.

My Screen Flickers While Browsing internet

The screen flickers when there is any kind of light background on any video I play on the internet via wifi. Auto screen brightness is turned off both within the browser and frm the main display setting as well.
Any possible solution to this OR you are having similar issues ?
PS: This happens only on internet. Rest screen is perfect in all activity.
Yeah I know what you are talking. I noticed that same. But believe me... there are more annoying problems out there with that Huge Crap of ours.

Never noticed such, can you give an example website?
It generally happens on any video i play via net, but more noticable on lighter backgrounds. A perfect example would the below video:

People plz post if you are having similar flickering lines.

Bought my note a couple of days back and after reading Galaxy Note Screen Issues!!! thread I spend few hours trying to find any bugs.
Here are my findings:
1. Slight saturation of gray color on upper right of the screen during screen test
2. Screen flickers while browsing internet with stock browser
3. Halo in calc application
3. Patchy plain black image if set as lock screen wallpaper
I think these screen related problems are because of the software bug not hardware (except few cases with dead pixels). Because------
I set brightness to 1% using Elixir and used Opera mini and mobile, Dolphin HD and Mini, UC Browser but screen did not flicker. Even while reading books with adobe reader screen does not flicker. Halo in calc app is the design of the app.
But I am not sure about gray screen issue.
So to be SAFE, tomorrow I am gonna go to Samsung SC and tell em that if these problems persist after forthcoming updates (2.3.7 or ICS) I would demand refund or replacement
PS
We got the latest and greatest mobile available in the market. Its a beast of a phone!! So stop complaining
Sorry for my English its not my native language.
Its been proven that every Note differs. There are ppl which do not have hues or banding in calc app. It shlould be pure blue to black gradient, without any color hues, red or green. It should go out to black quite smoothly, not through gray.

Hue/banding in my calc app looks like 'black-gray-blue rainbow' does it mean my graphics chip is faulty ?

OK thx for confirming. BTW, You know any browser i can download that supports Hardware acceleration.
And ppl plz dont start taking abt random screen issues(There is a dedicated thread here for that), be on topic and post your views if there is any kind of flickering/banding while using internet.
Do you get the same flickering using the youtube app?
Yep, I get the flickering when watching flash videos. I've read that it's not just a Note problem, other devices have the same issue. I also belive it's software, not hardware related.
Don't know how to cure it though!
Same here.. flickering in flash videos - top half of the video.

Played this video in Stock Browser. Played via flash player , no problem found. no weird lines or flickering.
I get a brightness flicker while touching the screen during browsing. So far no other screen issues from my subjective experience.
I don't understand why not everyone has that problem. If so, maybe it is really hw related. And that would be bad.. I can't imagine that t-mobile will change the unit But there is still a chance that it can be sw problem, because it makes no sense that other videos are playing ok.
btw: i can also see flickering on that youtube video

[Q] Video quality issues with Netflix and movie players?

Got the Nook HD+ rooted and installed the Play Store
After that I installed a file explorer and Netflix.
It was on playing Netflix that I noticed a big problem, the videos are distorted and pixelated massively. Having done some small web design projects I know that one issue with the retina displays on the newer Ipads etc is the DPI is increased and so normal pictures and videos tend to look washed out a bit. Is that an issue with the HD+?
If not that, could it also be that Netflix itself is thinking I am reaching them from a smaller screen device and streaming the smaller file/screen size which the Nook is expanding to fill the screen making it get pixelated (as happens when you zoom into a video)?
Regardless, I looked in other threads for this issue as I do not believe I am the only person to ever experience this - did not find anything. One last test, I logged into my own home file server and tried to play a movie in one of the folders. Sure enough, it looks fine on the TV and computer monitor but looks a little grainy by comparison - so I have to believe part of this is a DPI issue? Is there a suggestion to resolve this?
Would installing the "real" Netflix from the HD+ market solve this for at least Netflix? (I am going to assume that logging into the B&N site and installing an app that way does not endanger my root or access to GApps/Playstore?) Is there an easy way to get to the B&N app market from the modified dashboard (not CM10) or should I stay away from that if it makes the HD+ more apt to update/modify my current settings?
That is a lot of questions to solve a single problem so is there an existing solution I am overlooking? Or is this just the price of having the greater resolution screen?
That distortion and pixelating happens on all my devices with Netflix. It goes away after a minute or so. It is like the buffer has to fill up before it gets clear.
And I don't think it matters where you get the app, I think they are the same. And getting something from the B&N store has no effect on root or Play Store or vice versa. You are no more likely to get updated. You are already automatically logged in. That happened when you registered your device.

[Q] Help needed viewing web images on HD+

I have a large number of my photographs prepared for web viewing and copied to my Nook HD+ micro SD card. These are scaled to a maximum of 900 pixels high or 1350 pixels wide for portability. When using the Quickpic app there is really no problem. In Quickpic, in horizontal screen mode, double taps cycle through three magnifications; 100% viewing (a necessity for me), and fit to height or fit to width. The last two are nice features but most likely one or the other will force the image off the screen. There is no ‘best fit’, which I don’t understand. Any minor inconvenience this poses pales compared to my web browsing experience, which is really where I want to use these and other similar size images.
...To the heart of the problem:
The images I mentioned above are a subset of my 'misterpixel' photos up on Pbase and (almost) all are scaled to this same 900 or 1350 pixel (original) size. The ‘original’ images should easily fit in the Nook HD+ in horizontal mode where the screen is 1280 high and 1920 wide….but that isn’t remotely the case using any of the Android internet browsers I have tried so far. With the Nook HD+ sideways the images typically switch between two different sizes upon double taps and neither of these two sizes fit to the screen in any usable fashion. To be honest, I can’t figure out what the images are scaling to as nothing fits to screen even though most normal web pages behave as expected . My suspicions are that the problem isn’t the browsers but some configuration in the Nook itself or perhaps the Nook’s version of Android. Or perhaps it is that in conjunction with the way the PBase pages are set up. Worst case, do I need to root my Nook to fix this issue?
I should say at this point I expected that when using any of these Android browsers and using ‘desktop mode’ that they would in fact mimic my desktop. On my actual desktop screen these PBase images appear in a proper 1 to 1 (100%) manner. I even tried downloading Android browser add-ons to more closely mimic various desktop browsers and it was no help.
As high resolution tablets and photography mix this will increasingly become a major problem. but for right now I’m at a loss as to how to fix this.

I'm no expert on displays, but maybe it has something to do with the pixel density that we use on the Nook. It may affect the way the browsers render the image. Are you using the stock rom?
There are some really easy HTML/CSS tricks that you could use to scale the pictures for easy viewing on the web, but you would need to create HTML page(s) and show your images there. Would creating an html page work for your needs? Im happy to show an example if so. Share a link to sample image and I will show you what I mean.
Thanks

Thanks for the offer but I have almost 2000 images up on PBase and I like some of the amenities the web site provides. OK…I’m lazy.
The difference between a desktop web viewing experience and the tablet viewing experience is profound. As a photographer I want my images to be seen in their entirety and in critical instances it is nice if they are seen at 100% where one pixel in the image displays as one pixel on the screen. Clearly the Nook HD+ is capable of doing this and clearly PBase is providing the ‘original’ image so that this can be done…I just can’t seem to do it. From my frame of reference as a photographer this is beyond bizarre and very frustrating.
I’m a newbie here so I am not allowed to post URLs but you are welcome to go to PBase and check out my ‘misterpixel’ photos and see if this is happening on your tablet. Its the 'original' images that give me issues even though they are realtivly small.
