[Q] (Resolved) issue with windows seeing an unrooted nook

I haven't rooted my nook yet, but I have run into a peculiar issue. I plugged it into my computer tonight after work, and instead of seeing it as a nook, I am getting 2 removable drives. When I click on either of the two removable drives, I am asked to insert a disk into the removable drive.
When I open the Adobe Digital Editions software (to put Google Books on my nook), it no longer sees the nook, either.
Any thoughts on why this would happen?
Win7 Pro x64
I have now done a factory reset, data clear, and still unable to see the nook properly. All I get is two removable disks, with no devices inserted, when I plug the nook into either of my computers.
Try inserting an SD card into your NC and see if one of the removable drives stops asking for a drive to be inserted.
I'm assuming the two drives are the internal NC storage and the SD card slot. That's how it shows up on my rooted one. Can't recall what it looked like before root. Next time I reset mine, I'll take a look and check in here.
By chance, do you have an Android Phone device in your Device Mangler?
no, I did not see it.
I was able to resolve the issue, though. I ran through AutoNooter, then did a full reset (after playing around with the rooted version, of course ). After that, it worked just fine. I think it had something to do with the way the VMWare player saw it the first time I had it connected. If I have VMWare running, when I plug the nook in, it shows up as a VMWare Virtual USB device, even though it's not connected to the guest.
Not a big deal, I was able to transfer files/movies/etc. to it earlier today, and that was what I was looking to do.

[Q] Rooted NC suddenly won't sync with PC

Hey Guys,
I am having a vexing problem with my rooted NC. All of a sudden, after 5 great days of rooted goodness my NC will not sync up with my PC at all, not as itself or as a mass storage device. Moments before this happened, I had downloaded some pdf magazines through Calibre and several moments before I had installed the RepliGo pdf reader app from the market. I have deleted the two magazines, rebooted both my nook and computer several times, tried all of my pc's usb ports, unchecked the usb auto mount, the re checked and nothing I have tried has worked. Everything else is working great and I can load files on to the sd card through my PC and they are recognized just fine after I re-install the card. Also, when I plug my cord in to the nook linked to the PC it starts charging just fine.
Any help would be appreciated.
OK, let's start with a dumb question. My NC can be fickle...sometimes when I connect USB, it automatically mounts, other times it takes a while. One thing is for sure...I get nothing unless I look at the screen, and make sure it's unlocked (swiped past the lock screen). Have you made sure to do that?
Sorry if that's an idiotic question.
-Matt
Thanks for the quick reply. Each time I plugged in my nook after I made some change I was sure to unlock to confirm that I was still having the same problem. Also, when looking in the device manager I doesn't seem to acknowledge that a new device has been plugged in which makes me thing something is going on with me nook.
Next question...have you tried a few different USB cables? Also, I'm on my second (soon to be third) Nook. The first had a USB port that appeared to have minor internal damage. When you plug in the USB does it go in smoothly, or does it take a few tries? If the latter you may have port issues.
-Matt
I haven't yet, but I plan on bringing the cord to a B&N close to my work tomorrow to see if that is the problem. Is there somewhere that I can get the nook color usb drivers? I have seen a link on nook devs but it is in the context of using adb so I don't know if it would apply to this situation.
Thanks
Jon
I get this too. Got my cable replaced at B&N today. Haven't tried it on my computer yet though. When I connected mine to my MacBook, it will say that the nook is drawing too much power and then disables my USB port. Annoying.
Sent from my XDA app on my Nook Color
I was going to mention reinstalling the drivers, but you noted that it isn't showing up in device manager. But I wonder...take a look at:
http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_USB_ADB
In particular, this might be helpful:
If you did not succeed, identify each nook entry in device manager (each device with a Hardware ID of USB\VID_2080&..., right click and uninstall it. There may be several. Uninstall all of them. Unplug the nookColor, replug it, and restart from Section III.

Click to collapse
-Matt
So I would need to do all of the steps on the aforementioned nook devs site in order to reinstall the drivers. Also, in the device manager I looked at all the usb devices and did not find the right information to indicate the nook was attached.
Thanks for all of the help
Jon

[Q] NC is automatically installed as B&N Ebook USB Device

I'm running CM7 on my NC. Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop. I cannot get my NC to show up under Computer Management->Devices as anything but B&N Ebook USB Disk (it shows two entries). When I uninstall these entries, disconnect the NC, reconnect the NC, my laptop will recognize the NC as the B&N Ebook USB Disk and I can't override or stop it from automatically installing it as such. I also don't seem to be able to "Upgrade Driver" for either the B&N Ebook USB Disk entry nor the USB Mass Storage Device. Windows reports that it's determined the best driver is installed.
What I've done:
-Installed the Android USB drivers.
-Tried uninstalling the USB Mass Storage Device entry for the NC.
-Tried rebooting both computer and NC and then reconnect.
Is there anyway to stop Windows 7 from automatically installing the driver? When it's doing this, there isn't a stop or cancel button in the dialog. Is there anyway to get my NC to be recognized as an Android Composite ADB Interface? My NC isn't showing up under any kind of Android Phone entry either (there isn't an entry for Android Phone either).
thanks for your help. I writing this from Helmand Province Afghanistan tonight.

Three's Company NOOK Color, TouchPad, and PC

Life together for each of the devices. This is a thread to discuss how to use the nook, touchPad, and PC together. Here we can point out each of these strength and weakness. Plus how we use them to complement each other. I really like have a 7" and 10" pad that in both cases is impossible to brick. At the current price points it is nice to have both if you are lucky enough to find the touchPad.
In the short time that I have owned the touchPad, I have found it nice to use all three of them. I thought it we be nice to have a thread to discuss how we use these together and what each of them strengths and weakness are.
First use was the PC to find the touchPad in stock. Not easy, but on my third attempt the PC located a Best Buy with one and I was lucky enough to get it.
PC stutters, nook to the rescue. I am on vacation at my son's. He has no wifi but outside his apartments there was a public spot available. I used the nook browser to display information that was needed for the initial setup.
TouchPad helps get thread started. My Bluetooth keyboard is always disconnecting with my nook. I have to continually press the connect button on it to type after it goes to sleep. Motorola same Bluetooth keyboard works fine with the Touchpad. At home I would just have switched the nook to a USB host keyboard and used the XDA app to type.
NOOK Color
The nook with CM7 is way more polished and has way more apps. If I really have to get some work done on the road, I use it. Big brother is there to help the TouchPad when it needs it.
TouchPad
I like the big screen for many things. I like how the Bluetooth keyboard works, but when I attempted to use the Bluetooth mouse, no love. Back to using my stylus.
PC
We really need the old guy to assist with its two roommates. Could not use either without its help.
I'm in the same boat. I use the touchpad the most now. I love how snappy and responsive webOS is and the browser is miles ahead of the gingerbread browser. Every once in a while I jump back to my nook if I want to do some reading or play words with friends, but for the most part I find the full web browsing experience on the touchpad to be exactly what I need. The video playback is also miles ahead, but I don't tend to watch videos on tablets that much. I still prefer the 7" screen for reading and the smaller size makes thumb typing insanely easier on the nook. The Nook is the one I'll take out of the house with me, as the touchpad is too big and heavy, and the nook has a lot more apps to keep me busy when there's no internet connection available.
Try to keep the thread rich but
1. I don't have a TouchPad. Where do you find apps (both paid and free) for webOS?
2. What is PC? Personal Computer? PC running Windows 7? PC stutters???

Ok if you bought it new with Honeycomb on it then you bought the wifi version I assume. Anyway, all Honeycomb devices switched protocols, they are no longer USB Mass Storage devices, they are recognized and media players, so you should see a Portable Media Devide under My Computer if you have the latest version of Windows Media Player on your laptop...
OK, THAT being said, in my personal opinion it's the worst decision Google could've ever made. SO what I do is install a little app called Samba File Sharing, which allows you to connect to the 7 as a network device and have access to it's SD contents just like any other device connect to your computer.
Hope this helps. You have to set up a few parameters like network name and workgroup and such but it only takes about 1 minute and well worth the trouble

Thank you for that tip.
Some devices require MTP, the s7 in this case isnt one of them. The s10 is though.
It's up to the rom maker to decide which one to use to use either MTP or USBMSD, depending on how the internal memory is organized.
Regardless MTP allows you to simultaniously access the device on a pc while using it on the device itself. With USBMSD you can only use it on one or the other.
The S10 has /sdcard as a symlink to /data/media, so you simply cant mount it or you'd unmount the entire /data partition (which would be very bad). The galaxy nexus is the same way, hence it requiring MTP mode.
The S7 has /sdcard as a seperate partition, I'm guessing mainly for the ability to simultaniously access it.
Fastboot+ADB.zip has every driver for every dell device.
