[Q] The best ROM considering Battery live ? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which ROM is the best considering Battery live ?
Thanks.

There is a real nice chart in the captivate general forum thread called battery showdown, still a work in progress, but a good place to start.

My vote
So far Twingerbread has had great battery life. Plus it works really well.

I'm very happy with Andromeda 1.2.

see my signature ... i got more than 24+ hours for a single charge.

the best i can have is 3days with supernova and suckerpunch kernal OCed at 1200, but with light use (almost 2 hours of screen on and about an half hour of voice call)

I don't believe that for a second. Captivate 2.1 Stock loses 15% battery just from cell activity over about 6 hours. And a half hour voice call would suck up about another 30%

I lose about 15% for 30 min voice call, 1% for 1and half hours of standby, and 1% lose per 4 mins of time on (i mean screen on). however i have problem with sukerpunch in wifi connection I have to go to setting/wifi to open the wifi connection

I'm using phoenix ultimate and currently @ 33% 25 hours unplugged. Light to moderate use.

That is pretty insane. Are you UC/UVing the crap out of the ROM too? I'm running Precision 3.5 and I get at MOST 28-29 hours a single charge but I'm a moderate to heavy user. Maybe if I was a light user I may squeeze another 5-10 hours i suppose...but nothing like yours...

I am going to decond that, since I am a moderate to heavy user as well. However, i would like to put in a good word for DG's Cognition 4.1.1. Battery time is better than most that I have seen.........except in my case (having power issues with my suckerpunch kernel at the moment).

I've been using Juiced 2.1 for a few days. Very happy with battery life and speed. I get about 27 hours in standby.

I have only used a few roms (various versions of cog, percep, androm, paragon and twinger) over the last couple of months and my best so far is twinger. I don't use custom kernals or modems or whatever, as it is uploaded is how I use it. I keep everything enabled and updating, have plenty of widgets and 100+ apps. Heavy/Moderate/Light, not only is it relative I don't waste time worrying about it. The most important thing for me is to use my phone as it was meant to be used without all the fussing over settings and make it through every day no matter the useage and no matter how early or late I get home and the only one to last longer than me has been twinger. I rarely use GPS because no matter what I have used, it sucks, even plum bobs fix, freakin samsuck!

Still on the replacement battery I got in Sep '10.

Why do people dwell on battery usage? Use the phone lightly and there isn't much usage. Use it more and there's more usage. Have GPS, WiFi, updates, etc running non-stop and it drains even faster.
During the week with fairly low usage, I recharge every night with between 60 to 70% remaining. Then from Fri morning at 700 am until Sun evening at 1100 pm (64 hours) it'll be down around 20% remaining. BECAUSE I rarely use it on weekends, GPS off, auto-rotation off, WiFi off, no texting/email, maybe 1 or 2 phone calls.
Been roughly the same with all three ROMS I've been on (Andromeda, then Di11i's, now Darky's 9.3 Extreme)

Even though it is still beta, I seem to have the best battery life with CM7 and TheEscapist's kernel overclocked to 1.2ghz and UV'ed. Gingerbread should use less battery life than Froyo so maybe this shouldn't be a surprise.

60% after 17:25, moderate usage. Cognition 4.1.1 with Speedmod's K13c and KP1. Animated screen saver, gmail synching, a bit more than three hours of onscreen time, including surfing, music player and games.
This is so different from Cog 3.02 and earlier, when I was lucky to squeeze out 16 hours total, and the phone burned 10% of the charge in 5 hours when idle. Now it burns 1-2% when idle, and KP1 seems to burn a bit less battery when I'm actively using the phone than JK4 did. And, oh, yeah: everything works! I couldn't be more pleased.

Battery Life

I've just noticed that my battery isn't lasting as long as it used to..i got my tilt in october '08 so its relatively new. anyway, i remember the battery would run 3-4 days minimum with some usage before needing to be recharged.
i'm currently running athineos (wm6.5 - fresh install) and i noticed that after about 30 minutes of being unplugged, it is already down to 97 percent battery. is my battery going out? or could it be that the radio version installed isn't that great with the battery (running 1.71). if so, i will try to flash some other radios tonight
edit: actually, i take that back, it appears to remain stable at 97% for an hour now
I have the same problem with Athineos 6.5?
Did you find any solution for this?
the kaiser is designed to run on WM6.0 and WM6.1 the chefs over at the ROM developing did a great job of making WM6.5 ROMs but the battery won't last as long because WM6.5 is a lot more memory/processor/power intensive as well as TF3D. my kaiser's battery lasted about a day with TF3D but now after I made my own WM6.1 ROM with only HTC Home my battery has lasted 2 1/2 days. count yourself lucky for your battery lasting so long. It is about time for the battery to begin running down after you got it. It typically takes 3-6 months
And also ive seen different radios have different effects on battery life to.

Yea, i'm using 1.70.19 right now and it seems to last much longer. its been 3 hours now and it has only lost 3 percent of the battery.. sitll using AthineOS 6.5
oh just to add, i was on Hyperdragon III (WM6.1) before this with the 1.65 and 1.71 radio when i had the bad battery life. it seems like 1.70.19 is working alot better!
I'm using the 6.1 stock rom. I made a call for 25 min and sent 4 text messages and my battery life dropped from 100% to 82%..Does my battery have issues?

Thats probably a reason why your battery dropped so fast. although it shouldn't drop that fast

Make sure your brightness is 25%, that helps alot
I'm having a battery problem also!
I just use my phone for calling and calendar/agenda.
I can't get it last for one complete day, at the end of the day he disconnets due low battery. I have my bright at 50% and still have this problem.
How can i optimize my phone, and/or check if there is any application installed consuming high battery?
Thanks!

Rom with the best battery life

I don't know If this thread has already been created if so please direct me to that thread.
So I used to think CM6 had the best battery life so I flashed 6.1.0 but not much battery life change so im starting to think that maybe it was actually cm 6.0.0 that had best battery life but im unable to find it so I can test it. So im here asking you all what Rom has brought you the best battery life to your cdma hero no matter if its 2.2 or 2.3

I would like to know what's your measure of "best" battery life?
try using aosp - jaybob's rom, best rom with battery life, used it pretty heavily and got 15 hours

My measure of best battery life is not losing 10% of my batery life doing nothing. I remember when my battery would be be at 40% I go to sleep wake up and its about 30%, now its dead by the time I wake up

don't need to flash the kernel since it's already in the rom. Just do a full wipe and bam ! I'm actually trying the latest one (june-08) but the june 4 version gave me that 15 hour
personally i have found that the rom you choose itself doesnt really matter, its more about your personal usage, i.e what apps u have running, cpu settings, etc. i usually get around 15-20 hours battery life with pretty heavy mp3 use, lots of texting, and about two hours or so actually on the phone. but i make sure i leave data/wifi/gps etc. off unless i need it. also, its a good idea to check and stop apps that automatically load with the phone that you dont need. imho the only roms that seem to drain the battery quicker are the sense based ones, at least from my own experience.

I was thinking about starting a new thread about this, but you are explaining EXACTLY what I am going through. I wake up today (after leaving my phone charging at night) and turn on my phone, and first thing I see is an 80% battery (this is a normal occurance). After literally doing NOTHING on it all day (except for a 30 minute call) it turns off by itself at 20%.... after 8 hours. So while I got 2 hours better than you, keep in mind that I did virtually nothing. What is worse about it is i'm supposedly using the "best rom" for battery life (AOSP 2.2. + battery tweak).
I've wiped battery stats (after reading the correct way to do it) and checked the health of my batter (reads as "good") and i'm still clueless. I'm wondering if I should even waste my money on a battery and hope that's it? I've only had the phone exactly a year and about a week so I'de be disappointed to know the battery lasts this short. I remember being on another froyo ROM (with the battery tweak) using it more than I am now going to bed anywhere between 30 and 50% which is about where it's at at lunch time now! I can't believe that i'm actually ok with the performance of my hero, it's just the battery that's killing me now !
And I plan on staying away from the GB ROMS until they get the GPS issue resolved. Let's just say that I was in Colorado a couple of weeks ago and my phone failed when I need it to work.... flashed froyo almost immediately when I got back (that's another topic)

[Q] CM 7.1 Stable vs Stock JVx Battery life

After using Samsung stock ROMs for over a year I finally switched to CM7.1(Stable) last week. But the battery life I'm getting now is not as good what I used to get with Samsung stock ROMs. With JVT I easily got 24hrs, but now I cant go beyond 15hrs with same usage patterns (3G during day and WiFi at night, few short calls and around 50 SMSs, with a bit of web browsing and some online audio streaming). Did anyone else notice a similar battery life drop going from a recent stock ROM to CM7.1 ?
I ran the CM7 nightlies until recently and came back to JVT because of battery life and the hello hello bug. I use my phone as a music player for most of the day and find that stock ROMs hardly deplete the battery at all, with CM7 I was getting the same sort of life as you.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
For me, CM 7.1 Stable drains battery a lot. I've changed to JVP modem and it seems to be a bit longer, maybe I'll try with Fugu kernel.
Looks like I'll be going back to JVT. Idling battery drain is way too much. For example I charged it around 8 last night and by 12 noon today, battery is down to 45% mostly just idling and few texts. This is as bad as original eclair release came with the phone.
I personaly dont find there to be a huge difference but i am on Bell which is HSPA only (3G all the time)
i find i always have to recharge by 4 pm (8 am wake up) but i am a heavy user. I am waiting for my extended battery so i can make it through a day.

What was the last stock ROM you used ? I used to get similar battery life with earlier ROMs, sometimes I had to charge it twice in a day depending on usage. But with recent ROMs (2.3.3 and up), I ever hardly charged it twice, despite very heavy use (more than an hour of calling , GSM/VOIP, about an hour of internet audio streaming etc..). IMO stock ROMs are really good at idle power consumption, I have managed to get 2 days with light use, a full day with moderate use and more than 10hrs with heavy use.
EDIT : CM7 is smoother and quicker; I also like the customizability. I’ll again give it a try when ICS comes out , but till then I'm back to Samsung Stock, because poor battery life simply kills the experience for me. Perhaps I can squeeze couple of hours more with some tweaks, but I doubt it'll be as good as JVT.
I myself have come back to 2.3.5 xxjvt cos coming from cm7.1 and darky 10.2 final..i should say stock rom can have a standby time of more than 24hours believe that..otherwise ics might have a lot more to over than gingerbread
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I hope when ics is released by cyogenmod battery life gets better this is why ive not updated to 7.1

[Q] Whats your longest battery runtime ?

Hey all
I'm happy with my phone, currently running wiui on it
I wanted to hear whats yours longest battery time ?
What ROM and kernel was used ?
Mine personally is for now 17 hours on a normal workday
running on stock 2.2 ... with miui (the last version) I had 6-7 hours :
I am on Django 0.5 with HP RC-11R and i am on 29% presently after 2days 14hrs...with mild to medium usage with little wi-fi, small usage of 3G and voice calls medium.....I am greatly happy....it all depends on how you keep the battery calibrated, system usage, charging cycle pattern and a few more....
It was almost the same with Topo's ROM, Blazing Dragon and also Thanatos 5.1....so it is a bit of care and great magic from our developers....
Hats off all you guys who are making LG O2X such a entertaining and stable device.
medium use (3g on, mail, facebook, twitter, google +, movies, some games, video calls) : 6-7hrs
hard use (wi-fi on, mail, facebook, twitter, google +, movies, lots of games, video calls, messeging, some apps, gps) : 3-3,5 hrs
Stock 2.3.4 20L
with medium use (3g always on or wifi if available; 30 min surfing; few smsing (around 10) and calling (30 minutes); no gps; 30 min gaming) leads to around 24 hours of battery life
I'm really happy with my cm kanged by temasek (#30) and vadonkas kernel (#12.jan)
kind regards

Realistically 15/20 hours is about right for a smartphone nowadays. Unless companies start making phones a bit thicker so larger batteries can go in them.
Unless you really edit the phone, underclocking etc, you wont be able to push more than 1-1/2 days out of the phone.
Can I recommend better battery stats app available either on the market or on xda. Helped me discover a few apps that kept running (partial wakelocks) all the time and therefore affected battery life.

Best or ideal kernel settings for best battery life with good performance?

The title explains it all—I'm wondering what the best kernel settings are to achieve the best battery life without completely dropping performance. I've never tweaked the kernel on any phone I've owned before, so I have no idea what those settings might be. I currently get around 5-6 hours of SOT, which is great for heavy usage but with a battery those huge we should expect way more.
I'm currently playing around with majorly under clocking the CPU (Currently testing at 1.2 GHz) and have yet to notice a difference in performance. I'll update with battery improvements if any arise.

im on zzmove with profile 6, run only 2 core at 2.4Ghz and every thing seem good
phone run cool and great in game(framerate still good and more stable since no throttling at all, before that with stock, my phone get hot and lag if i play asphat for long) not sure about battery yet but seem good
Try computerfreak ROM, i'm getting 77 hrs on battery and 6 SOT!
Oops just now noticed I had replies.
I'm currently running Resurrection Remix and I seem to be getting better battery life than I was on stock, which is odd; however, I wish to get more. Update me on those kernel settings.
Also I noticed that when I'm at school the cellular signal drains my battery considerably. The signal there is poor, is there any way I can minimize the drainage?

That's a ridiculously easy thing to do, I can't believe I didn't think of this. However, its rather inconvenient. Any other ways? I heard back in 4.4.4 that there was a way to disable certain bands or something to consume less power when you have bad signal.

I'm on rr and honestly I'm not getting the best battery. Like 3.5 hour on screen time. It does still make it through the day though. I changed the kernel settings to conservative under cpu, which helped a lot from previously getting under 3.

Settings, configs, performance tuning, kernal tweaks, then in the app in the cpu tab, the cpu governor option. That's where I found it and I turned it down and I'm getting better battery.
That's odd. I get considerable better battery life on RR than I did on stock. I've hit 5.5 and even 6 hours of SOT with heavy to medium use (when I'm not at school at least).
Same here, but I noticed it lasts much longer with Greenify and Amplify installed with Xposed. I lose about 2-3% during standby mode during the night....whereas before I lost about 10-15% even while on RR.
Just got 7HR and 4 mins screen on time with in 2 days didnt use my phone at school only when i was at home so i guess 7hr's is good..
EDIT: i am on stock ROM

That sounds right about what stock should be getting for some users. It's good to reference stock with your personal use versus someone else.
1 hour of a playing a game with full brightness will use significantly more battery than an hour of book reading on night move although they both technically have the same screen on time.

I usually consistently got about 5 hours and 30 minutes of screen on time on stock with medium to heavy usage at school and at home.
On Resurrection Remix, I usually get 5 or sometimes 5 and a half or 6 hours, with heavy usage at home. On school days, I can only manage to get around 3, which I find incredibly odd. I chalk it up to the poor signal at my school draining my battery.

It definitely is decent, but with a battery this huge we should be getting way more. Especially since Moto and Verizon preached about 48hr battery life.

You can get 48 hrs on the Turbo. You can also get 5 hrs. Like I said before, it all depends on your personal usage. Perhaps they have a baseline test they do on every phone so there's no variable aside from battery.
