froyo lagfix - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
which lagfix is stable with jpjpg rom?(please link me to a newest version and safest method)
tnx!!

what's your setup?
Are you on a stock ROM
-Do you have root
-Do you have cwm or a custom kernel
What lagfix are you talking about?
I'd really like to help you but I have no idea what you need to know so I recommend you this here
If you are on a custom kernel:
/data - ext4
/cache - ext4nj
/dbdata - ext4
Is considered the safest

info!
stock jpjpg.(froyo)
rooted by z4root.
and recovery version is 3e.
my device has lag in the menu and it show itself in swiping between menu and home screen pages.
in quadrant adv v1.1.1 my score is about 990-1020
i want a stable lagfix like voodoo or speedmod or....
but i want a stable version and method of lagfix for this rom.
tnx

download and flash any kernel from the kitchen (generator->update.zip, then choose a kernel. I recommend speedmod, but they're all really good)
Then boot into recovery and apply the recommended/default lagfix and the tweaks
If you have any further questions, consult the thread of the chosen kernel or just ask here

cwm
tnx for your guidence.
now i have cwm(update.zip)file but i can't install this file on recovery 3e!
is it necessary to downgrade my recovery ver form 3e to 2e?(i want cwm but have problem to install that)

[Q] Change Kernel and Modem in Gingerclone.

I'm currently using the Final build of Ginerclone which uses the JK3 modem and the ULF kernel. I would like to flash both the JK4 modem and Speedmod Kernel..
I understand the process for both.. but am kinda confused about kernel flashing. Speedmod reccomends disabling any lagfix before flashing a new kernel. How?? How do I disable the ULF that came with Gingerclone? I went into CWM and didn't see any options to disable.
Can someone give me a n00b step by step on how to disable the lagfix so I can flash the new kernel?
Thank you so much.
Should have an option in recovery fire advanced ulk options. Click then go to lag fix then disable. Go back and reboot. phone will go back to a screen giving options about new settings. Click top option to back up and restore. Done

There is no option is CWM.. According to ROM manager I'm using the latest version... is there another way?
Do not use rom manager to get into recovery. Power off, use three button combo to get into recovery vol up and down and power. If you have ulk the option will be there
Go to my files and tell me if there is a folder named voodoo
I could not find anything in Clockwork Mod.. I had voodoo lagfix before I flashed back to stock via Odin. The folder was still there after installing Gingerclone so I put disable lagfix in the voodoo folder and decided to flash the Speedmod. Everything seemed to work fine.. My Clockwork Mod now has SpeedMod in the menu and new options.. It definitely flashed over... But here's the weird thing.. My kernel doesn't show SpeedMod in About Phone.. just the numbers 2.6.32.9 ...which is very weird.
Is that normal?
Certain roms can not show the kernel correctly so yes it is normal for certain roms. The 2.2.1 roms show the correct kernel
To get max effect of the kernel enable lag fix in recovery and enable all tweaks that have r next to it.
Also dl voodoo app from market for sound
Dude. if you have ext4 lagfix with ULF, then you don't even have to disable to flash. HC's speedmod kernel is TOTALLY ext4 compatible. It clearly states you don't have to disable if your already ext4.

Ah that makes sense... Gingerclone is a 2.2 Rom and never showed the actual Kernel since I had it installed.
All the tweak options already show enabled.. so that's good. Also, as far as enabling the lagfix... when I go into Lagfix options in CWM. Everything already shows data is in ext4 format. Does that mean the lagfix is already enabled?

I read that only if you have the latest version of Voodoo, then it was compatible. Since I could never see exactly what kernel I had.. I wasn't sure exactly what kernel I was running.. so I disabled it before I flashed just to be sure. Now that I have speedmod installed and running.. can I delete the Voodoo folders off my sdcard?

[Q] can i use rom manager two install darky's roms

There is some issue of galaxy s i9000 not having a stock 2e recovery. so we ll have to install a 2e recovery from some where. How to do that..
Also, do we need to undo the one click lag fix before flashing a custom rom?
I ve rooted the phone by z4one click root, do i really need to do rooting again with the cf root (for 2e recovery as some say
will the backup done by rom manager able to save the game and browser data?
Depends. If you are using a lagfix (conversion to jfs for instance) and you are going for a ROM based on a Kernel that doesn't recognize this kind of File System, then you are probably gonna have some isuues.
By the way, no, you won't have to do any rooting again, since CF Root kernel is already rooted

Thanks. Hey i have rooted using the RyanZ Z4root. how to find out whether i will require to install the 2e recovery while using Rom manager for putting on the darky' Rom extreme.
OK, so you are on a root-ed device, without any lagfix on, right?
If that's true, then you have many ways of installing Darky's Rom even if you don't have recovery 2e.
You could use Darky's ROM Configurator (found on market),make your selections and then download this and install it, just like you would with ROM Manager.
My Recommendation:
You could also download an ODIN version of Darky's ROM - BASE ROM, so that you won't have to mess with recovery 3e, and then apply Darky's "FULL" ROM, through recovery 2e.
Once Darky's ROM is installed, recovery 3e will be replaced by 2e
By the way, if not sure about whether you have a lagfix activated or not, I suggest that you choose to install Speedmod's kernel, through Darky's ROM configurator.

[Q] [ROM] • FireFly 2.1 voodoo

I just installed firefly 2.1 concerning voodoo do you have to enable it to work i hooked up my phone to pc and cannot find any folder named voodoo and in order to flash a unsigned zip do i need 2e or 3e?sorry for noobie ? just dont want to mess anything up and i love this rom so far awesome.I came from motorola backflip and flashing those roms was easy this phone more involved i've been reading alot starting to go cross-eyed.
go to recovery and check if your file system is ext4, if it is, that means your lagfix is enabled. recovery 2e is generally used for flashing cwm zip file, if you are using recovery 3e, search the forum for signature fix, otherwise, you will get some errors.
kinda related question, do you need to disable voodoo when flashing other roms? and do i just do the disable by going into recovery/clockwork and choosing it?

it is recommended for disabling the lagfix before upgarding a new rom. Yes, you can do it in the recovery.
But from my own personal experience, you do not have to do that, at least for upgrading the same brand rom, for example, upgrading Phoenix from 3.5 to 4.1.
If you are more conservative, disable it first.
FireFly 2.1 does not use voodoo lagfix. It uses the Speedmod kernel which has options for lagfix in the recovery. I have flashed over ROMs using voodoo (without disabling it), with no problems.
If you do disable voodoo, and then flash 2.1, make sure you go into recovery and enable lagfix and other tweaks.
Hope this helps.
does enabling lagfix make that big of a difference?and which tweaks would i enable?

enabling lagifx will let you feel smooth UI on your phone because of quick file access on the system. if you are using SpeedMod kernel, it has more info about the tweaks (it will not make much difference as lagfix).
so if its not enabled i can flash themes and fonts.but if enabled disable first so as to be able to flash from cwm and it has to be on 2e right?thank you all for the help.

if you just want to flash themes or fonts, you can just leave the lagfix setting as it is (it does not matter), only when you try to flash a rom. Recovery 2e is very stable in my opinion.

[Q] First time trying to flash a ROM - Help

Hi!
I have a brand new Galaxy S with Android 2.2 FROYO installed, and I want to install a custom ROM (F1 Galaxy SII V6). Since I´ve never flashed a rom before, I started to read lots of information and I would like for you to confirm if im planning the flashing properly:
Step 1: Root my phone with SuperOneClick.
Step 2: Install Rom Manager from Android
Step 3: Backup the current system from Clockworkmod
Step 4: Download the ROM and put it in SD Card
Step 5: Enter Recovery Mode and Wipe everything
Step 6: Install Zip (ROM) from SDcard
Am I missing something? Do I need to do something more before installing the ROM? Am not sure if I need to this step: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047924
Please give me your advices so I can perform a safe flash
Thanks!
This will help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1139050.
Before the installation of the rom you MUST have gingerbread bootloaders. And so before doing it you have to flash via odin a gingerbread firmware.
I suggest to use xxjvp firmware because f1 gs2 rom is based on this (you can download it from samfirmware). After you flashed via odin you have to download semaphore or any other kernel (semaphore http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=703841&d=1314631488) which has cwm. Flash it via odin. Now you have to download f1 gs2 v6 rom (wipe version). Go in recovery and choose install zip from sd card and select the rom( you don't have to unzip anything!). After the installation probably you will hear a strange voice. If it happens the phone is converting the system to ext4. Be careful! If you want to install another rom you have to disable it in recovery in voodoo--disable lagfix and system lagfix/off. Now that you installed the rom you have to install f1 service pack 1 and then root su fix. Now enjoy the rom
If you really want to use a custom ROM my suggestion is go for Darky v10.2RE
http://samsung-sgs.blogspot.com/2011/08/how-to-flash-darkys-rom-v102-re.html
Thanks for your feedback.
Another Question: Since the equipment is brand new and has a 2 years warranty, what do I need to do, if someday the phone has somekind of malfunctioning and needs to go the factory for repairing? Rooting and installing other ROMS voids the warranty, right?
I think so..
You have to flash the firmware that you had when you bought the phone via odin. You can find it on samfirmware

Thanks for your detailed explanation!
I only didnt understand two things:
1- What is "Voodoo" and what is the "lag fix"?
2- How do i install SP1? In recovery mode trough the zip file?
Thanks!
Lagfix: the filesystem of the galaxy s is in rfs. When you apply the lagfix it is converted to ext4. This makes your phone faster when you launch an app. Voodoo is a "type" of lagfix developed by supercurio. You have to install f1 service pack 1 and root su fix via cwm trough install zip from sd card.

Thanks again! Today I will try to flash the F1 ROM. Hope I dont brick my SGS!
By the way, after installing the ROM I can install another Kernel, right? Do you recomend the Galaxyan Kernel, or should I stick to Darkys?
Tks once again
Yes you can. I suggest to try this kernel developed by simone 201. Normal version has got 340 mb and bigmem version 353 but this hasn't got 720p video recording http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233215. Be careful! Disable lagfix before installing the kernel.

I reminded of something...Do I need to disable lagfix to install F1 SP1 a and root SU Fix??
It would be better if you install it from cwm. You don't have to disable lagfix before installing root su fix and f1 service pack 1. (Faryaab is going to release a new version of his rom in few days)
I´ve sucessfully installed the F1 Galaxy S2 V6 ROM, and everything is working great! The only problem im noticing is the fact that the phone hangs and then restart by itself in games...any solution for this?
Thanks
Hi again! Currently im using Darcore Kernel and I want to try the Galaxian Kernel. In order to install it properly, do I need to disable the lagfix?
Tks!
By the way, im only scoring 1900 in quadrant...is it normal? I installed setcpu but the max frequencie is only 1000mhz. How can i set the cpu to 1200mhz??
Thanks!

Just use your mobileodin and download speedmod k3-9 in tar file and flash, thats all.
As far the CWM App , you need to install CF root kernel for it. But all other kernels by default give you access to the CWM Recovery.
