You can make phone calls, texts, and if you can actually believe it you can take pictures. Also I heard when you root your phone you need to start spelling words correctly. Correct me if I'm wrong.
you can do everything supremeteam256 twice as fast as before.
You can install a full Linux distribution, like Debian.
You can run applications that require root, like Screenshot and Auto Rotate your Browser and or any other application.
You can install the latest Android build directly from the Android source tree.
Customize your boot image.
Install Applications to your SD Card to save space.
Use your phone as a tether to connect your computer/laptop to the internet.
Turn your phone into a wireless router that provides internet access.
And from the cyan stable changelog because I really hope you didn't install the experimental build right after rooting for the first time. All of this is an improvement on a stock phone.

download load it and put it on your memory card. It's a googd idea to wipe if you're going from experimental (based on donut 1.6) to stable (based on cupcake 1.5). If you have cyanogen's 1.4 recovery choose "flash any zip" select the ROM and flash. If you're not using that recovery, name it update.zip and flash it.

wow, that would be amazing
I'm now looking for someone who would help me with reversing Android Market app and rewriting part of it into C# or VB.NET because guy from Androlib.com declined to help and I need to get some connection to Market (app informations)
First of all, great server to upload it too
And the program itself is great. That's what I call user-friendly. Although mostly, nothing works right not, the UI is as straighforward as they come. Neat and organized, not to mention extremely smooth. I like it. Would very well like to try the beta out.
Yeah, we want UI to be as user friendly as possible.
this looks real nice, would be wonderful if you and camalot (creator of droid explore) both worked on something like this together, one doin mostly code and the other GUI. That would be amazing
I'm working mostly on code and my friend Jam3es is creating GUI
You can contact Saurik @ [email protected].
He is the guy responsible for Cydia on jailbroken iPhones.
He also runs cyrket.com, an on-line view tool for the Android Market.
The guy is friendly and open source and freedom advocate, so he would most probably help
I've already wrote him twice but no reply at all
bugs
the setup button doesnt do anything and it says that my phone was connected when it really wasnt
That's not bugs! It's not fully working version, but only "first-view" version that's only because we want to know how you like UI. If you want to see private alpha in action, check out youtube video in first post
Willing to beta test
I've been waiting for an app like this to come along forever. This is exactly what we need for our phones! It takes the hassle out of having JUST one mistyped letter in a long string of adb or console commands. If you're looking for testers, I'm willing to be a guinnea pig, and I'll help any way I can. Cot really able to program or anything, but I'll give you detailed bug reports, and anything else that will help with the evolution of this awesome app!
Would be cool if you could type sms and make phone calls with it.
This would be so perfect man !
Loves it, keep up the good work !
i couldnt get the .exe file running
i get
application failed to initialize, blahblahblah, click OK to terminate.
i couldnt remember what it said for the blahblahblah part >_<
That's because you dont have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 that is requiered to get app running. There will be Lite version, developed in .NET 2.0 that will be ported over Mac and Linux too

FAQ:Q: What was the difference between the standard and enhanced versions of Liberation?
A: In simple terms, Liberation Enhanced was deodexed, while the standard version was not. However, since the Gingerbread update, HTC has deodexed the /system/app folder, but has left framework odexed. I've decided to just deodex everything instead of having two separate versions with minimal differences in available storage, but vast differences in customization.
Q: Why is the Android Market outdated!?
A: If I insert the latest market, it won't update on its own, meaning more work for you. The version of the market I'm using is outdated, but auto updates. It will update in the background the first time that you run it, and should be updated within 2-5 minutes depending on your connection. You'll need to exit and re-launch the Market for the update to take effect.
Q: Some of my Google Apps (such as Gmail) are an old version, but don't show up on the Market as installed or needing an update. How do I fix this?
A: This is a bug or "feature" of the stock ROM, I'm not sure which. However, it as a very easy fix. Simply open Gmail from the Android Market. From there, scroll down to "Developer Info" and select "View Applications." This will display all of Google's apps in the market. Scroll down and update every app that shows as needing an update (they'll all display correctly from here). You may also want to disable automatic updates from here.
Q: Why isn't <insert app here> removed, I consider it to be bloat!
A: HTC did their best to put together an experience utilizing their Sense software. I left that intact as every user will get something out of it. Some use Friend Stream. Some use only Facebook/Twitter/Flickr. There is no perfect combination as every user wants something different. My goal was to present a stock experience without the carrier bloat. There are ways for you to remove unwanted apps yourself if you'd like.
Q: Why aren't there any screen shots?
A: It's a stock ROM. I've done nothing to differentiate this ROM in appearance from what your carrier/OEM ships.
How to customize Liberation BEFORE you flash:
Materials
Windows - 7-ZIP
Linux - nothing
Mac OS X - nothing (note, I have not done this on Mac OS X, so I cannot support this OS)
Steps
Download the above mentioned file(s) for Windows. You can use a different archive manager if you'd like, but my guide is based on using 7-ZIP.
On your desktop, create a folder named "Test." You can name it whatever you want, but I'll be referring to it as "Test" in this guide. If you are new at this, you need to follow the guide to the letter.
Find your downloaded ROM and extract it to the Test folder. The easiest way to do this on Windows is to open the ROM, highlight all of the folders/files (CTRL-A), copy (CTRL-C), then open the Test folder and paste (CTRL-V). Give it a minute to extract the contents.
Once you complete step three, modify the ROM to your hearts content (see details below). Once complete, proceed to step five.
Open the Test folder and highlight everything (CTRL-A). Right click and select "Add to Archive." This will open 7-ZIP's archive manager. On Linux or Mac OS X, just right-click (or equivalent) and select "Compress."
In the options menu that comes up, leave everything at default except the following. The filename should be Test.zip (change Test to whatever you want). Archive format should be zip. Compression level should be ultra. That's it.
Once done, you can copy this zip to your SD card and flash as normal. Keep in mind that I am not responsible for any changes that you made in this ROM, so make sure you Nandroid BEFORE you flash.
Specific Modifications (using the above instructions):
Ringtones - While the ROM is unzipped, open the test folder and look for /system/media/audio. Within this folder you'll see several more folders (Ringtones, Alarms, Notifications). Any should files you put here will show up in the system when you go to change your ringtone (or whatever corresponds to the folder). The benefits to this modification include; no storage space used up in internal, phone, or SD storage; ringtone works even if SD is USB mounted, no errors when the SD card corrupts or is in use. The ringtones (alarms/notifications) are stored in a partition that does NOT count towards your file storage
Replacement "stock" applications - If you use a differnent web browser (like Dolphin HD or Firefox), or a different SMS/MMS program (like Handcent or Chomp), then it is recommended that you remove the stock applications before flashing. This prevents conflicts, slowdown, memory usage, and the annoying popup where you have to constantly re-choose your default application. In these examples, you are looking for /system/app/browser.apk and mms.apk.
Add/Remove apps you don't want - Navigate to /system/app, and remove any APK files that you don't want. If you don't know what app it is, do NOT remove it
Modify Bootup Animation/Sound - Navigate to the /system/customize/resource/ folder. In there, you will see two files; VZW_bootanimation.zip an VZW_Droid.mp3. These files are the bootup animation and "Droid" noise. Simply delete the MP3 if you want a silent bootup. It really is that easy. Replace the ZIP File with another zipped animation (must give it the same name) to replace the animation with one of your own. NOTE: Make sure you verify compatibility. If unsure, don't do it.
Files needed for UOT Kitchen:
Download - framework-res.apk
Download - com.htc.resource.apk
Download - SystemUI.apk
The above files are needed for the UOT Kitchen. Ask questions in this thread if don't know how to use them. UOT Kitchen allows you to change visual elements of your phone's stock interface in a way that no launcher app ever could.

I'm cooking Liberation Enhanced right now, then I'll immediately start playing with the leak. We've seen a few developers upload flashable versions already. I can't commit that I'll release anything on this leak at this point. Let me play with it some and then I'll comment on it.
Both 1.0 ROMs are up based on the November OTA. Currently toying with the leak, will update.
Re-cooking then uploading the beta for 2.00 based on today's Gingerbread leak. Use at your own risk.
I agree with tincbtrar.

Downloading now, Thanks.
I'm liking some of the changes. Reboot time (after initial flash) is insanely fast. HTC Car Panel now works in both portrait/landscape, however, most other apps still don't. Feels smoother than 2.2 (and I just did clean flashes of all of my ROMs, it's definitely smoother).
Let me know what you think, but so far, feels good for a beta. I'll make it my daily driver for the next few days and see what happens.
Downloading the beta now. Already a few out there, but I know you put out good work, and it's the slimmest so far. Fingers crossed, already put the new radio on. This is great! Long live the Incredible!
Will definatly give this a try when I get home.
Only thing that stinks is the cool mods (Pulldown Toggles, EVO Camera, ETC) wont work with the beta correct? Those pulldown toggles are amazing for me (Flashlight, Bluetooth and Sounds - especially)
Once that gets sorted out Ill be using your beta. Until then maybe ill flash Liberation for fun.
Great work sir.

Yes.
After alot of good response about my Ubuntu install guide apps (thread here) I am happy to announce the second linux distro to get a install guide app!
The Backtrack install guide costs £1.25 (a little more than the Ubuntu guide due me needing to carry out alot more work in this build) and walks you through step by step to install and run backtrack on your android device via the chroot method.
The guide also includes download links to my custom backtrack images which give support for 800x480, 854x480, 960x540, 1024x600 and 1280x800 resolutions.
It is recommended that you test my free Ubuntu guide first to make sure the method works on your device before you buy this guide, however I am always working on getting more devices supported so in the future yours will hopefully work!
For more information and requirements please read the market place description.
The market link is HERE
Link to video of backtrack running on my phone HERE
And Link to support device list so far HERE
What is Backtrack?
Backtrack is Linux distro which includes a large range of security testing tools, it also features the Gnome desktop environment. For more information have a look at there site:
http://www.backtrack-linux.org/
Test files
A few people have asked to be able to 'try before you buy' and so here are download links to the V1 images, and the V5 script, if these work than the new images will also work (note these downloads are on multiupload not my ftp server)
backtrack.sh V5
backtrackV1-800x480
backtrackV1-854x480
backtrackV1-960x540
backtrackv1-1024x600
backtrackV1-1280x800
Updates
08/01/12
*File downloads now use new fast FTP server and support direct downloading (click the button to download a image and it starts to download right away)
*New boot script which has fixed problems with it not booting on alot of devices, and fixed problem which some people getting a grey screen when loading UI
*Boot script now downloaded in zip file to fix problems with downloading script
*SDcard now accessible from within backtrack
*Apps fixed to support low resolutions

Some are are included and those that arnt you could just install using apt-get, I shall just generate a list of installed programs and post it
Installed Programs
The list is rather long but the general programs installed apart from the backtrack security software kit includes the likes of java, python, firefox, thunderbird, office applications etc.
One thing I have noticed is the software centre is not installed, however I will include this in the next release!
Attached is a list of all packages install in the image if you are interested!
first of all, great job!
now some questions, did you actually try any of the installed security software? how much of those apps actually work? I guess wifi scan/injection don't, how about nmap and network scanning?

I havnt had time to test the apps yet myself no, once I have the next release ready and on the new server I shall take some time to go through all the programs and work out what does and doesn't work. However it is based of a official ARM release from backtrack so at a guess I would say all programs that do not require special hardware support should work right away
Looks great, man!
little look at what will be included in the next release over the weekend:
App file downloads now use new fast FTP server and support direct downloading (click the button to download a image and it starts to download right away, no more slow ass multiuploard (thanks to everyone who bought to app to make this possible!))

Unofficial CM 10.2 builds for Nexus 4
Hi all,
I decided to post my unofficial builds of CM10.2 for Nexus 4 after being asked by a few people in the CM10.1 Q&A and development threads, in order to consolidate questions and keep clutter down in those threads I decided it was best to make a thread specifically for these builds.
CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
Code:
#include
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at us for messing up your device, we will laugh at you.
*/
CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. You will need to provide your own Google Applications package (gapps). CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. Your changelog is whatever was merged into gerrit.
How to install:
First time installing or coming from another 4.3 based ROM:
Download the ROM
Download a compatible 4.3 Gapps package (I have been using Banks gapps from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857)
Reboot into recovery
Wipe data/Factory reset
Flash the ROM
Flash Gapps
Reboot
Coming from a previous CM10.2 nightly:
Download the ROM
Reboot into recovery
Flash the ROM
Reboot
Coming from a previous CM10.1 nightly:
Download the ROM
Download a compatible 4.3 Gapps package (I have been using Banks gapps from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857)
Reboot into recovery
Flash the ROM
Flash Gapps
Reboot
Builds:
Built from official CM sources only, no cherry-picks, no changes, no additions. I will not be changing the official sources in any way so don't bother asking.
http://goo.im/devs/thracemerin/cm_builds/mako
Note: These builds are produced by my buildbot at 4am US Eastern time (build + upload takes approximately 90 minutes), the repo will be synced during the build process to ensure that the latest sources are used. The completed file size should be approximately 196MB, so if the latest download isn't it's not fully uploaded yet
Note 2: If the build fails for some reason, I will try to build one later in the day, but if I can't you may have to wait until the following day.
How to get root:
In order to get root access, you need to do the following:
Activate the Developer Settings by going to Settings->About Phone ant tap on the Build Number 7 times.
Go to Settings->Developer Options and change the Root Access to 'Apps and ADB'
You may also need to activate USB Debugging in Developer Options (some people say you do, others say you don't)
Note: If you have flashed a kernel that comes with it's own boot.img package it may not have the correct instructions to start the internal su daemon as a result root will stop working, at the moment the best way to fix this is to not use that kernel. If you absolutely have to use a custom kernel you may need to flash SuperSU for the moment or ask your kernel dev to support this feature.
Known Issues
None that I'm aware of, but keep in mind that these are pre-nightly builds and could contain bugs and/or non-working features at any time.
Thanks

Q: When will official builds start?
A: Soon
CyanogenMod Blog said:
“Who cares about the old, gimme 10.2!”
We have one last internal item on our checklist before we open the floodgates on CM 10.2 nightlies. We fell into an old habit in 10.1 and the settings menu became more cluttered than we would like, and at times confusing both in presentation and in code. We are working to resolve this before 10.2 nightlies begin, so the transition is less jarring than it would down the line. Expect the new layout to be in effect with the first nightlies. If all goes well, we are talking days, not weeks.
In the meantime, the majority of our 10.1 roster have transitioned to being 10.2 capable. This means for you at-home builders, things should be in a fairly good spot for your own personal builds. If you want to checkout all the stuff we’ve merged, click through the pages.

Q: What is SELinux?
A:
CyanogenMod Blog said:
What is SELinux?
The project’s official description reads “SELinux is a security enhancement to Linux which allows users and administrators more control over access control.”
SELinux is a set of Open sourced and peer reviewed changes to the core Android Software stack to help prevent apps from performing malicious activities. This is done by establishing a set of policies that act as mandatory access controls (MAC). Depending on the policy, it can do things such as prevent apps from running or accessing specific data, to preventing root access altogether.
SELinux has wide-scale adoption throughout the linux landscape, with Fedora, Red Hat and others incorporating policies to better the system security. The default policies are usually written per distribution, by their maintainers – we have begun this process for CyanogenMod.
We will be working on this policy creation in parallel to Google’s own policies for Android, which we believe will be released with the Android 4.3 source; effectively getting us ahead of the eventual 4.3 source release. As this process is open source, policy creation and suggestions will be handled via our gerrit instance.
What it’s not?
SELinux is not a backdoor for government agencies to spy on you. It is not PRISM, PROMIS, CARNIVORE, The Great Firewall or any other ominous Big Brother-like initiative.
Access Control Modes
By default, we will be shipping with SELinux capabilities enabled in the kernel, but in a Permissive mode. What this means is that your phone will behave exactly as it currently does, with no noticeable change to the user.
There are 3 modes in total, Enforcing, Permissive and Disabled. While in Enforcing mode, SELinux policies are enforced, preventing whatever causes a violation (ie su). Permissive mode logs policy violations, but does not prevent the activity that caused it. Disabled turns SELinux off.
We are using Permissive mode as our default so we can come up with sensible policies. If you submit a log for us to analyze (via JIRA) for SELinux policy improvements, the logged exceptions will be of high value.
This will be an ongoing process as we work to incorporate sensible policies for each device repo. As always our source is available on Github and patches will be peer reviewed via gerrit. For those more attuned to personal data security, you are welcome to watch and audit our efforts. For the rest of you, sit back and relax – no need for pitchforks.

amazing mate, keep it up the good work!
Hey, thanks for the builds. Do you have any idea in your great widsom as to why the various Gapps packages vary in size to such a great extent?
First, we have Banks, which is extremely minimalist, at least when compared to official 10.1 Gapps.
Then, we have a 10.2 un-authored Gapps package, often linked in the CM discussion, which is about the size of the official 10.1 one, but seems to require Banks's photosphere add-on.
Lastly we have doomed's version which approaches a whopping 200 MBs.
What on earth can account for such varying sizes, and as the purist that I think you are, why do you use the minimalist Banks Gapps?

Nice man, thanks for this work, btw, the front cam is upside down.

BaNkS only includes the essential Google Apps that are needed for the Google experience -- working sync services, the Play Store itself, and so on. He provides other Google Apps in the form of an add-on, a separate zip, for the keyboard/camera/etc. Basically, most of the Google Apps are now available to download from the store itself (Keep, Earth, Maps, Voice Search, Search and so on). That wasn't always the case, but still some are releasing a full Google Apps package with everything.
The minimalistic approach is obvious - only install what is necessary, manually get anything else yourself. That is why the banks package is small because it is not forcing other apps that people may or may not use since they could simply download it themselves if they wanted to. I assume the 200mb or more package is simply every single Google APK that comes with the official factory images.

markd0wn basically covered it, but it also depends on what you want in your /system directory, most of the apps that used to come in Gapps packages are now available in the Play Store as stand alone packages so you can still get them if you want them and they get installed as user apps instead of system apps, not that it makes a tremendous difference, but for the most part they don't need to be in /system.

Android reserves around 4GB of the total space on the device. Yes, it is quite normal.
Glad I picked up the 16GB model.

Hmm....it's early for focal still, probably just an oddity.
@thracemerin, any way to know if the CM team are aware of the homescreen shortcut bug? maybe I should search JIRA for it... since I'm not sure they follow all threads here. Doesn't seem to happen to everyone though. Happens to me in every unofficial 10.2 build (gonna try yours now after full wipe). The only thing I'm changing is the number of homescreens from the default of 5 to less (for example 2). After that, it's very easy to reproduce - simply add a few apps from the drawer to the homescreen, also put some apps in folders, then reboot, and you'll see what I'm talking about (in case you don't already know). It also happens randomly without reboots, maybe when Trebuchet is refreshing itself or something, but reboot forces it to happen quicker.

I heard about it, but I always use Apex Launcher so it doesn't happen to me. I'm not sure they want you to put things for 10.2 on JIRA or not (probably not) but its a fairly serious thing, so you could try logging it, worst case they ignore it.
thanks for posting this thracemerin. I've started my own builds (mostly for fun, to see if I could!), but I wanted to try some known good 4.2 builds before I flash one of my own. Your build and instructions are great. It's running smooth except for two things:
- I can't get my titanium backups to restore user apps, it just hangs at 0%. No big deal, I've just been installing from play store manually.
- Installing swype gives an error -24 . I did a clean install of your CM build, so data was wiped; there is nothing from nuance in data/data to wipe. This may or may not be related to the error with TiBu because it also was trying to install swype from a backup. I guess I'll play with the stock keyboard for a while.
thanks again.

For the titanium backup problem, I switched the backup folder to the legacy selection in the preference menu and was then able to restore. Hope that helps

Thanks to DJLamontagneIII for this:
Titanium backup Users
1. In tb go to menu>preferences>backup folder location
2. Navigate to storage/emulated/legacy
3. Select your Backup folder and Select "Use the current folder"
4. Then it will ask you to move backup to that folder.... Select that
5. Restart app and restore.

Beat me to it
Another bug that I think is introduced in the 08-11 build is lockscreen slider shortcuts not saving (but if you changed them on a previous build and updated to 08-11, they'd probably be set up right).
I managed to save them anyway using a workaround. Basically setting them all as 'Empty' and hitting the save button won't do - you'd turn screen off/on and it will still have the default ones. What I did to 'fix' this is set each one to empty and tap save inbetween changing each one, then tap save again after they're all empty, then I tapped the icon that restores all to default, suddenly the 'default' is what I just set up (all empty), then hit save again, and voila, saved successfully. Could probably skip a few of those steps that I did as I'm sure one of them did the trick and the others were just me testing, but at least it works.
Another thing that confirms that they're changing something related to lockscreen shortcuts, is that after achieving this, the lockscreen is now stock-style-behavior. Before, when you set all shortcuts to empty, pressing and holding the lock icon would let you drag it to each spot that became empty but it still appeared as an "empty shortcut". Now, you don't see the spots where shortcuts would normally be, it's just all a circle.
(I'm reporting all of this just in case it helps someone )

They're doing a fairly significant reworking of the entire settings apk and all of the CyanogenMod settings, it's possible something got added/removed that broke this temporarily. I would expect that certain settings menus, etc... may be broken over the next little while before the official nightlies begin.
