MY Phone Condition:
My phone was previously install with voodoo rom and use clockwork recovery to restore to my stock rom that i backup and it crash half way.
My phone was hardware lock this mean no matter how i press the volume and power button , i will never get into download mode. non of the method posted work !
My phone cannot use "adb reboot download" because there is no OS and it was stuck in the recovery loop.
It does not have clockwork recovery because i formatted my internal sdcard
If i do have clockwork recovery and i use restore image or install new from zip , i still stuck in the recovery mode after reboot several times.
My phone does not mount to internal sdcard because i don't even know what i did on this part.
I believe i screw up my partition of the phone.

First Part
1. Download update.zip from the link below. This was post by another member.

2. Place the update.zip in tools folder so you can push it into your phone by using adb command
3. Plug usb into the phone and your phone should be on the Android system recovery <2e>
4. Use your volume button to select reinstall package, don't press power button yet.
5. constant "adb push update.zip /sdcard" from computer , you will get permission denied.
6. While you are constantly pushing the adb command from computer. press the power button on the phone so it install update.zip from sdcard.
7. This is the part where it force adb push into sdcard without permission
8. once the update.zip install completed. unplug the usb cable from the phone and take the battery out.
9. put the battery back to the phone then press on both volume button.
10. While holding both volume button , plug in your usb cable and it will boot to download screen.
If you need use Odin to flash your phone to original stock rom. Go to the Second Part
Second Part:
If you get black screen with only 4 light on the bottom after flashing from Odin.

There should be T959-PDA.tar,T959-CSC.tar and T959-Phone.tar within the package.
Check "Re-Partition" , "Auto Reboot" and "F.Reset Time" check box. Use the PIT 0512 version. Use "PDA", "PHONE" and "CSC" from the link above.
After flashing with Odin, you will loose the download mode. repeat the first part and you are good to go.

my hardware lock mean cannot use the button method to get into download mode and using adb reboot download does not help too.
Im pretty sure hardware lock does not mean no recovery. Just no button download mode

i was about to give up. i was trying to push update.zip and do adb reboot download left and right and no luck untill i found this method. It took me a week to figure it out

my recovery was working because i was stuck in the a loop. ya , this update.zip pretty much do both download mode and recovery mode.

You figure it out after all. I already stated the condition of my phone ! My phone was pretty bricked at that point. There is way for me to push any files into the phone because i don't have permission and my phone will not go to download mode by using the volume button. It just stuck at recovery mode.
There are guide out there teach you to use "adb push download". This method only work if you are in your phone and you turn on debug mode. My phone crash at the clockwork recovery bootloader. Then i formated my internal sdcard that hold the clockwork. next i push a stock update.zip that does not have su and busybox so i lost the capability to push anything into the phone.
no download mode , no permission, no sdcard --> You tell me how can i use the method that post few week ago ?

Firstly, i tried to "FLASH" the disable_voodoo zip file via Clockwork, i put it in root, and never created any folders. i knew i had to disable voodoo before flashing but my steps were wrong.
sadly enough, my phone was also HW locked, so i got it exchanged. now im not using voodoo YET and i my new vibrant can handle OC and has the recovery/download mode via buttons.

i use shell to create the file that disable voodoo. after disable voodoo , i was able to do restore and install new rom unfortunately after restore or install new rom , it still reboot into recovery.
I also forgot to disable voodoo, and this was before there were fix instructions posted. So i basically effed up my phone to the point of being stuck in the samsung recovery loop, no hardware download mode, no clockwork recovery, no update.zp, no adb download.

nice , you just have to re-root and install the new rom again , if it brick again , just use this method and you are good again.many of us forgot to disable the voodoo before we restore or install new rom and this crashes the phone.
Need some help really bad
Ok so I have a similar situation as you did (OP), only mine is a bit worse... In my irrational "in the moment" fear of the situation, I used adb reboot recovery to get into recovery mode (HW locked phone) and I did the option that deletes all the **** on the phone and restores the phone to its original format (I think it reinstalled the OS or something, because it looks brand new). So now, whenever I boot up, it does the annoying black screen with the 4 glowing buttons thing for a while, and then eventually the OS actually shows up on the screen. Then it does "scanning media" thing over and over again, but thats not the main problem. I figured, hey this isnt so bad atleast I found your thread and would be able to use your method to help restore my phone... the problem is that somehow my "settings" button is totally gone from the app menu, and I cant get it into debug mode, so I cant use either adb or your method or ANYTHING!! My phone is practically bricked as I cant do anything because its constantly laggy and turns back to the black screen thing, and then when it is showing the homescreen I cant do **** because even swiping to another screen takes like 5 minutes to do cause its so laggy. So basically I ****ed up, and I really need some help.. Im kinda a noob at this whole thing and im really outa options as far as I can tell.. does anyone know what I can do to repair my phone? My Captivate is one of the unlucky phones that download mode is deactivated. I've searched the forums only to see bricks everywhere when people are rooting with this problem. Is there a safe way to flash or an adb fix that allows you to enable without the risk of bricking my phone? I purchased my phone used and cannot warranty my phone due to this so I don't have room for error. I'm tired of my stock ROM lag and bloatware. Its been interesting adjusting to this stock ROM after using Cyanogenmod for so long on my old phone. Ideas anyone?

You could flash this to get you back to stock with the 3 button fix.

I am stock. My 3 button doesn't work. If I root and something messes up, I cannot get into download or recovery mode to fix it.
I can't even get into download mode via adb. I'm just at a loss.

Right but if you flash the stock from that link, it includes the 3 button fix and you will be all set

I know I would be if I could get into download mode in order to do so. It is a requirement to flash this, that's my problem.
I hold the volume buttons and insert the USB and nothing happens but the phone charges and the battery is displayed on the screen.
I've loaded all of the software and tried to do this on two computers. One runs Windows 7 64bit and the other runs Windows Vista 32bit. I don't think it's a driver issue, I can adb into the phone but I am also denied permission when I try to use commands like adb reboot download on both computers.
I don't know what's going on but it's a lot more complicated than I've dealt with. I can't find anyone having the problems in the forums or anything.
This happened to me too when I went to stock using the odin that DG posted a while back. What's weird though is that I was able to get into dl mode no problem. I've flashed my phone just fine 3 times up until today when I went to flash the most recent cog. I used that odin to flash back to stock. At that point, I could no longer get into dl mode.. dunno. But, I had already rooted since going to stock. So, I just proceeded to flash. Weird. I'll follow this thread to see what the fix is.

I see now. Are you familiar with ADB? You can just use the adb reboot download command while your phone is plugged in and it will reboot into download mode. You have to have Android SDK installed and all your Samsung USB drivers installed as well.
Edit: Sorry, I missed the part where you couldn't do adb reboot download. Have you tried the one-click root?

Shouldn't I be able to get into recovery/ download mode before I even think about altering the phone? A simple error could cause a problem I could easily fix in recovery. Without recovery my phone would be bricked. Should I worry about this?

Well, I can relate because I don't have a 3-button phone either. What I did was first root my phone with the 1-click posted in the forum, that way, you can use adb and get into download mode. Then flash the Stock with 3-button fix, then flash whatever cog rom you want. I have used that method and everything has worked fine for me, but of course, follow those instructions at your own risk.

Thanks, I didn't even think about needing SU to be able to get into download mode.
I used 1 click root, did the 3 button fix, and flashed clockwork with Rom Manager. I've got it going now. Thanks a lot.

So I put Andromeda on my phone a few weeks ago. It went fine, no problems, liked it. So I went to put it on my wife's phone. I was able to get it rooted. Into download mode, and Odin on it. But I couldn't get it into recovery. Vol up/dn/pwr just booted the phone normally. Vol up/dn does work to change the volume settings normally so it's not a bad button. So I thought, I had mine on stock 2.2 when I did everything. So I hooked hers up to Kies and put 2.2 on it. Rooted it. Now I cant' get the phone into download or recovery mode. Vol up/dn, plug in usb not working, it just goes into battery charge mode. We got our phones the same time so they're both same hardware rev. Any ideas?

I donot know whats causing the problem (dont have the knowledge) but i can suggest buying a usb jig (costs only 8$ including shipping) which is pretty cheap and useful considering if you change roms frequently.
U just plug in the usb and the phone goes into download mode and you good to go.
If u wana buy just google mobile tech videos and buy it from their website (the guy john selling it is a rom reviwer on xda so its a safe site to buy) or on ebay. hope this helps

try using rom manager to boot into recovery.
note with 2.2 stock it has 3e recovery. to install cwm you must root and replace with 3e hacked recovery
use rom manager to boot into recovery. from cwm you can tell the phone to reboot into download.
or if you still have a custom rom, you use the advanced power menu (power button menu) to select download or recovery. no button tricks needed.

3e recovery can be a bit of a pain, it is easier to Odin one click to 2.1 with the 3 button fix and go on with that.
The other solution would be to go with Team Komin's Ursa Minor kernel. There's a video posted on the forum (and youtube) by AdamOutler (I think that's his name) on how to do it - very clear and easy to follow.
@ Trusselo, I don't mean to go against your suggestion. I went through the 3e recovery myself and it can be a pain for a newbie so I'm giving him/them a second opinion/suggestion

its actually super easy if you have root explorer. (google *cough cough*)
use root explorer to mount RW then drop the file over the old one.

Yup, they're. I had to go through the replies to find the actual good way to do it and even then it wasn't so clear.
Once you know how root explorer works, then go ahead and use the 3e recovery but I wouldn't suggest that to some1 new to all of this I mean, you don't wanna replace the wrong file either (or even worst, delete system files).
Either way, It's up to you OP - both solution works great. I hope we helped
EDIT: lolol - I guess w/o dl mode, my way doesn't work so well You can try one of the 3 ways to get in dl mode, the one that works best for me is:
1. Turn off phone, remove battery, sim card
2. hold down both volume button
3. plug the usb in (while holding both volume still)
4. A nice triangle with a Android holding a shovel should show up
If that doesn't work. My apologize and go ahead with the 3e recovery that Trusselo suggested. You can pm me for clear instruction (and probably Trusselo as well)

Yes. And I believe I got it rooted with Superoneclick because it has superuser on it.
it is easier to Odin one click to 2.1 with the 3 button fix and go on with that
Exactly what I'm trying to do. But can't get into download mode or 3-button recovery mode. Neither are working. I didn't try the abd server method. Looked a bit scary, but may try it this eve.

So mount the SD and copy cwm to it and rename to update.zip. Get Rom manager from market and that will get me to cwm to get to download mode to use Odin to go back to 2.1. Then root again and install rom manager again to get into recovery to load the Andromeda? Is that close?

Little question here, why would you delete ROM manager after?
@ OP - Please read some more before trying what has been suggested here. Trusselo gave you a good rundown which isn't too hard to do (there are also vid on it). A little reading could save your android, that coming from a guy that is usually hasty to act (notice how I bricked my 1st cappy )
most custom roms have CWM built into the kernel. rom manager and the update.zip with cwm are no longer needed with one of the cwm kernels.
and custom roms usually have the advanced power menu. boot to recovery/download easy peisy
rom manager only confuses people if you have both. took me a couple weeks to learn that..
bricked my first one too, kinda, (coulda fixed it) but couldn't wait and had it only days, easy exchange with in-store dummies.. lol

Since the wife's on stock 2.2 and rooted. Seems that I can just d/l Rom Manager on her's. Copy the new rom to the SD. And use Rom Manager to flash it.
Can it be that simple?
And yes, I've been doing alot of reading. But, some of you guys talk a different language.....

No, it's not that simple, on 2.2 with the 3e recovery you will get a signing error when trying to flash and it won't work. Follow the suggestions and just use odin with the 3 button fix to get to 2.1
To get into download did you try removing battery from captivate, start Odin, plug USB cable to PC and captivate, hold both volume keys, and reinstall battery? On Stock that's the only way I can get into download. There is a thread on here with more detail but that's how I do it.

Yep, tried that one.
Spent a couple hours on this last night. I isntalled Rom Manager. That will get the phone into recovery. But, since it's 3e, doesn't do me any good. Signature errors. No matter what I do, can't get the phone into download mode. Last night I even tried with adb. The phone just reboots normally with the adb reboot download command.
I know your gonna say there is the 3e fix, keep reading. I found it. But, really didn't understand it. And I don't want to brick the phone. I think the wife is going to be staying on stock 2.2 at this point. I don't know what else to do.

Try and make or buy a jig?
Buiding a JIG is quite simple and cheap, you should try it.
Also, you can pm me for 3e recovery. I'll give you a nice rundown - It's quite easy, just not well explained on the thread
How do you get Odin to recognize your phone. I can't get it to load on odin. Please help.

I know how to do that that's download mode. I installed the correct samsung drivers(using an .exe I found on XDA, I start Odin then put my phone in download mode but it won't recognize my phone on odin.
You know those squares at the top nothing shows up in other words.

R u putting the phone in download mode b4 u connect it to the PC? Open Odin> put phone in download mode> plug phone to PC> pretty sure u know the rest from here

I was trying to find the right version of CM. I see u have 10.1. Once I straighten my problem I will try that. So with that, when I try to install any type or mod and flash it into CWM I enter into a flash loop. Does CWM file need to be actually on my phone? I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. I used ROM Manager to try and install Cerberus. When I clicked 'flash recovery' it went to recovery screen and installed the app. Then I clicked 'reboot now' and it went back to recovery screen, constantly. So I went back to stock then reflased CWM with Odin and now I'm back to square one. I need to know what I need to do to flash ROMs and avoid this looping.

O.K. Is there anybody that has this phone and has the correct drivers installed? Is there any way somebody can give me the drivers they used in order to put their phone back to stock or whatever. I think their is something wrong with the drivers I have installed.

The drivers should have installed automatically, you mentioned that you installed drivers that you found on XDA? Could you point me towards them?
I don't recall needing to install drivers on Windows 8, so try going to device manager, and uninstalling those drivers, and letting windows 8 automatically install them. Go to device manager, plug your phone in, you should see samsung usb drivers or something along those line pop up, right click on it and uninstall the drivers, then restart pc and phone and this time let windows install the drivers. Put your phone on downlad mode (can be done by pressing volume down, home and the power on button simultaneously).

If I recally correctly, ROM Manager is made by CyanogenMod, right? If so, then it's only useful on the phones it's officially supported on, (our phone is not on officially supported, otherwise we would've definitely seen 4.4 ). The looping probably occurs because it's installing some other software that is not supported on our phone, so your best bet would to flash ROMS found in the "T599x General Discussion Thread", a list of working roms are provided there. Remember to install the necessary GAPPS as well.

Can anyone assist me with a solution to get my SHGH-T599N to power on. It will not turn on and I've tried everything I know; which isn't much, to get it to turn on.

Try new battery, but it's probably hard-bricked which means it needs to be JTAG'd, which means you have to go to a repair shop.
Okay, so, I know it's possible to fix this, it has to be. And let me explain why I can conclude this.
1.) I can access Philz recovery but ONLY when forcing the phone to hard reset via buttons.
2.) The touchscreen works in the recovery when resetting but doesn't go to the main menu or anything to restore a backup.
3.) The phone will recognize adb commands from the computer, but since the touches don't work when booted I cannot select the "allow this computer" prompt.
4.) The phone boots into the CM11 ROM and the buttons work (I can change volume, take screenshots, and access power menu.)
So, I'll explain what happened. I tested a boot.img for Quarx and flashed it. I didn't reboot my phone, just let it stay on. It worked and everything, but a little bit after church it rebooted on me and showed the CM setup menu. I was like, "What? Okay..." So I was going trying to make it work, but I realized the touchscreen wouldn't respond to my touches. I locked/unlocked the screen, rebooted, all that good stuff, and none of it worked. So, here's the damage done.
1.) I can't touch anything on the screen. It won't respond to touches.
2.) I cannot access recovery, only hard reset.
3.) I cannot approve adb commands because I need to hit "allow" on the screen. (The prompt does come up though)

I can access recovery but only when factory resetting through holding Power + VOL DOWN when booting. So in short, I need a way to bypass that "authentication" for adb, because in order for fastboot to recognize my device I need to run adb commands to set it up (since that's gone too now). That, or, I need to find a way to access Philz recovery without having to use the touchscreen. It's so frustrating because the one button I need to press is literally right in front of my face, on my screen, but it won't respond to my input.
Does anybody here have any suggestions? I haven't been able to flash a KDZ successfully, I don't know why. It never works for me on this phone. I was a pro at it on the L9. School begins in a week and I need to have a phone that works, for transportation and such. I'm not really at a point to buy a phone right now either since I'm focusing on buying my first car (yay I guess).
If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. In fact, I'm even willing to donate money to whomever can point me in the right direction.

I hate to say it but Factory Reset appears to be your only option for a fix.

Reset doesn't fix it because the boot.img is still the messed up one.

I cannot enable USB debugging to use that since the screen doesn't work and it reset itself.

if yes then
you can put aroma file manager there...and in root of it in default.prop
change the lines
ro.adb.secure=1
ro.secure=1
to
ro.adb.secure=0
ro.secure=0
and reboot
now you have adb access without any confirmation required....
this is possible only if philz is working...
best luck...
and remove every possible LG driver from your pc
then reboot
connect to the internet
dont install drivers manually
let windows find the drivers if it doesnt find one.
then just reboot
after rebooting install drivers manually.
this works form me everytime.

The only way I can boot into Philz is when it's factory resetting. When it's resetting, it shows the recovery and everything, but it's just resetting. There are no options to flash anything and such. It just resets and reboots.
EDIT - If I could get a KDZ to flash, I'd be set. When I connect my phone in laf mode (s/w mode) my computer doesn't recognize it. It says it's an unknown USB device, and shows a warning symbol next to it in the device manager. If I could get that fixed, I might be able to flash!

Its gave me same problem when i try it,thank God i can enter download mode to flash KDZ and back to TWRP.
But what that is amazing me about your is that its cant do what other D415 does why? did your own D415 is special.
Also another thing is USB debugging,If you using CM11 by Quartz it was enable by default in that rom

Yes but I still need to accept the prompt asking if I want to allow the computer to access the phone, which I cannot do because the screen does not respond.
How did you manage to flash the KDZ? I know it will be fixed if I can flash it, but I'm not having any luck flashing it! It keeps saying that the device is unknown, even though I've installed and uninstalled the drivers countless times.

I entered download mode by remove my battery,unplug cable,
Then insert the battery back and press volume up key(hold it ),then insert the usb cable
after seen download headline then press power key it will take you to firmware update

Can you give me the link to the kdz you used? I feel that's the problem. It gets stuck at 2%, and another user said he changed KDZs and it worked fine. I got my computer to recognize it, now I just need it to flash it lol.. It's really depressing how something as incredibly stupid as a KDZ flash is holding me back, and nobody's suggestions seem to be working. About to just give up and not even care about mobiles anymore >.<

The guide that I followed was the one about flashing KDZs in thy general section. The problem I had was that my KDZ that I downloaded was corrupt somehow, so I had to find a working one!!
