[Q] How to make a boot animation/splash screen - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I am using a rooted CDMA Hero. I rooted my hero in mid to late june last year and I don't know how to make boot animations or splash screens. I was wondering if someone can link me to a link that can tell me how, link me to a online boot creator if available, or answer my question in this thread. I have GIMP if I need plugins. I'm sorry if this has already been asked before.

It kinda does
But anyway, to the OP, a bootanimation is essentially a group of sequential .png images in a .zip file. If you haven't already, download one, open it up and take a look at what is in there. That will give you an idea of what you need to do. Then search XDA for a "how to".

In CM, you can remove Sprint from being displayed on the lockscreen and when the notification bar is pulled down.

Honestly I don't think anyone here, including myself, has any idea what you are talking about.
The HTC Hero was compiled as a CDMA phone. Provided a contract, it should work for whatever the Radio in your phone is programmed to connect to.

do you mind if I ask why exactly its so important that the rom isn't built around sprint. cyanogen, and cSrom are built without the sprint framework, but I feel like youre asking for more than that and Im quite curious

It just seams odd that all roms are built around sprint. And cyanogen is to sprint its the first Rom I used.

Well I mean this is technically a development question.
As for the Sprint tab on the apps in the market, that depends on where the Vendor.apk was pulled from before it made it into the GAPPs zip file. If it was pulled and compiled from a Sprint phone, then you will have that tab.
Honestly though, outside of an extra tab on the home screen of the market all CM6.1 and AOSP are both build from the Open Source Project from scratch. They should function as such - the "Sprint tab" is merely an aesthetic thing it seems to me.
-Kevin
I just use Appbrain anyway, forgot that tab even existed.
Still not real sure what you're looking for, though. You're going to have Sprint influence because 1. Unless you're cellsouth, it's your service provider, and 2. Team douche probably does nothing to the gapps, other than package them up in a zip due to legal issues. I suppose if you really wanted to you could pull the market apk and edit something so that the tab would say something other than sprint, but what's the point?

ASOP on the lock screen it has sprint in the upper right hand corner. It seems to me as a none sprint user that I see sprint in every Rom some where.

[Q] How to fix double-notification with text messaging

I have deleted the stock messaging app and installed Handcent. Whenever I receive a text message, I receive two notifications. The first is the stock messaging envelope icon, followed by the Handcent icon. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Wrong section. Also, I thought even the Handcent Market page tells you that you need to disable notifications in the stock messenger.
Yeah, wrong section, but just go to settings in the stock app and disable auto-retrieve.

My apologies. I will try elsewhere. But, fyi, I cannot change the settings in the stock app because I deleted it.
why delete it, just leave it and turn off the notifications for that app.

It has already been deleted. Otherwise, I would turn off the notifications in the stock app. But I cannot open the stock app to turn off the notifications because it no longer exists in the app folder.
Okay, um, extract the MMS.apk file from whatever rom you're using (adb or root explorer) and copy it to /system/app. Then open the apk from /system/app and install. Then open messaging and change settings. Hope it works!
It's simple 3 step process...
1. Search
2. Read the forum rules
3. And, POST in the right section...
Hey forum cop's, this Guy came looking for help. I don't think he needs to be told its the wrong place 4 times. When did linuk/forums/XDA become more about putting people in there place and less about just helping?
If you reflash you should not lose anything.
But same as others have said with putting back the stock app or just reflash the rom you ate using should do it. As long as you have not changed.

well u have to go into the stock mms and it says something about notification u have to uncheck that box and it wouldnt show the double text notification

Dude - it's not about helping or not helping... people have always answered questions and went out of their way to help out. But this basic stupidity (some might call it arrogance) of not reading rules, guides, wikis - which everyone out here has put in their precious time to develop and update, is unacceptable. And over and above that, this guy has posted this question in two different places... what do you say about that?

Or to save ya a lot of reading...at the most basic level, the kernel is kind of like a bridge that connects the software to the hardware...see the wikipedia link User posted for the details

Delete Stock mms? YES here No there..

So ive been doing some studying and i hear that if you download a 3rd party mms.apk and delte the stock itll be ok, but then i hear you shouldnt delete it..
so i just wanna hear from you guys by your experience whats true. thanks =]
The only way that Android knows how to handle incoming SMS/MMS messages is to reference the messaging.apk, so, keep it.
yea thats what i heard, then again i heard the opposite.
im mainly thinking just of internal memory space, why have two of the same thing kinda thing
Well, MMS.apk is in /system, so you won't see any freed up space anyway.
Nand and delete it. Once you see that it is needed, restore your nand.

s0be's kernel has come a long way. It's close to being feature-complete, but you won't see the huge speedup potential it really has to offer until he deems it stable enough to strip out all of the debug symbols.
The best kernel is the newest one available over on the GSM hero forum. Good luck! Keep on yer toes!
