I keep on seeing posts about ext4 and other partitions but couldn't find a How To guide and why we need them. Can someone point me to one?
Thanks!

Well I don't know about a guide but if you want to learn about ext4 you can start here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext4
As to why we need them.... well Android is based on Linux, so it uses Linux file systems...... it like asking why I need a NTFS or FAT32 partition in windows.... its so your system can properly read and write to the space on the drive....
Got it. So it's a file system. I'll look for posts about partitioning. I think there's a tool to partition.

Hi guys.
I'm searching for some articles (the more information, the more better) about Android File System. I want to know what and where android files and partitions are. Where is boot loader on the file system? Where is kernel? Where are hardware drivers? My head is full of such Qs.
If you know links, pages, or have any, ANY ideas, or you think you know something I don't, JUST SHARE IT and let me know.
As I'm now English learner student, accept my apologies if I made mistakes.

Hello, So I'm having a problem with my SD card. Very first time when I purchase the phone I put my sd card into the slot and it got recognized. Later after that after reboot my SD never worked again. I try putting same sd card into other phone and it wasn't working. Possible it got damaged..? Then I try other card and since that none of sd's seems to be working.
Tried to mount sd card in cwm and in phone settings. Can't even see option to mount neither cwm recovery or settings. Got no clue what to do next, I am stuck with one option to bring back the phone to the retailer, but before that maybe there is a way around it?
Any help will be appreciated :good:
wrong section.
Which kernel?
Which ROM?
Does the SDcard work in other devices?
Try other sdcards.

Because you posted a question in the general section.
Have you applied the sdcard third party write fix or not?

remove doom kernel and install the adanced stock kernel by doomlord, I had a similar problem and flashing the other kernel fixed it, there more than likely is a fix for the SD card going missing but you'd have to search to find it.

Before I try that would like to try to find a way around it. But +1 for info. Cheers.
Doom kernel v19 doesn't support exfat (default file system) microsd cards. Have you considered this?

How do I overclock my Samsung Exhibit. T599n? I purchased it at MetroPCS 2 days ago and rooted using Cydia Impactor. I do not know much of anything about this device. So first I need to find out if it is possible to overclock.
I appreciate any input.
Since this forum is for the T679, you won't find much help here. As far as I know they don't have a dedicated forum on XDA for your phone. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I'm beginning to notice that alot of what I am looking for is in the S3-mini threads.
Thanks again!

Ok. It's there... General disussion of the T599n. Now I have some info! And some reading to do.
Today I reformatted my 32GB sd card on my computer. Then I was able to use it again. Then I reinstalled Busybox, then opened the AParted app. Made 2 partitions and rebooted. Then I opened Link2sd, set primary partition as EXT4. Rebooted. Opened LINK2SD again and linked all non-system files. Haven't tested it yet. Will get back with how it's working.
I am looking to extract the files from the factory images.
Specifically the bootloader.img file and radio.img file.
I've looked everywhere I can think to figure it out and it will not mount no matter what I try.
I am running Ubuntu as my daily so linux tools are very welcome.
Just looking to learn what I can. I am new to the Nexus but not to dev work.
Thanks for your time
You are looking to get the bootloader and radio .imgs from the factory image download? Or you want to open the bootloader and radio.imgs to edit them?

Looking to open the bootloader.img and radio.imgs.
Thanks.
I am not sure what their formats are either ext4.img or yaffs, neither of which you can mou t that im aware of. There are tools i believe that can extract them, unyaffs/umyaffs2 or simg2img. There is also a possibility that they are encrypted and you won't be able to open them. I don't really have any experience with bootloaders or radios so I probably can't be much help.
Mind if I ask what your goal is by opening them?

just looking to examine them...curiosity.
Its my first nexus device.
you can mount an ext4.img in linux and simg2img wont do anything with it neither will yaffs
im not sure what the format is either.
I've been digging around all the files just to get familiar with them before I start to try to do any kind of work with it.
They are probably both encrypted. You won't need to do anything with either of those when working with Android on a nexus though

You can extract the bootloader by using the moto logo tool. I've used it to change splash (logo).

Thanks. I've seen that. And have known of the method.
I just need to make sure I extract all of the relevant files for the bootloader.
Thanks.
You won't find documentation for that anywhere, people who develop that must sign very heavy NDAs.
This is the justly closed source part of the phones.

That figures. I guess since it was a nexus device I assumed there was a way.
Thanks anyways.
