Antivirus? Is there a need? If so which one is best thanks
Try Lookout

To be honest, I doubt that you need it. As long as you watch your downloading etc habits.
I have no issue with odin.....If I were to catch something it's back to stock and reflash for me. No antivirus here. BTW - this is not advise, it's just my personal motto.
Thanks I'm gonna try agv or lookout if not for the antivirus then for the finding my phone if I lose it somehow

I've also been using NetQin which has a lot of great features that others only offer in their paid versions.

seconding this, just make sure the app you download only has access to what it is suppose to do, on a side note, I use antivirus free.
I feel they are pretty pointless as long as you get all your apps from the market and read the reviews before downloading anything.
Just be smart about what you download.
it only wastes battery.
go look at any thread about "crappy battery" you will notice 1 thing!
they all run antivirus
One word LINUX.
That is what android is. It will only do what you tell it to.
As others have said watch what you download. The only way to infect your phone is by your own mis-judgement. There are no auto installers, you have to approve everything you do.
That being said why would you need an anti-virus?
I mostly agree with that...
However, with the recent issue with Google pulling several Malware apps from the market(most that were duplicates of legitimate apps)
I am a bit worried about where this is heading.
Although I suggest using Droidwall
With a white list to only allow specific apps to access internet.
Listen, I'm brand new to the cappy, so I'm here to learn, and new to Android, and I just learned tho ditch my a/v!

How about a hammer or better yet don't lose your phone.
There are a few on the market. Lookout Mobile Security get 4 1/2 stars.

Depends on the software dev. I know for a fact that AutoDesk only licenses the software and if you upgrade you either send it back to them or provide documentation showing that it has been destroyed. I believe EA has something to the same effect in their EULA, so, sometimes, no, you don't own it and you can't do with it as you please.

Avast.. more for the Anti-theft stuff than the AV.
AVG... Its lightweight but donno how efficient antivirus it is... I like Avast and Dr. Web but they consume a lot of battery (especially avast)...

New update to NFL mobile app actually blocks rooted devices! I guess Verizon is either paranoid or thinks they own MY phone and can dictate how I use it! I'm off to search for a way to subvert this on my way to giving this app the review score it deserves.
Please feel free to weigh in with any thoughts or suggestions. Like a root user is going to just sit there and give up...yeah, good one Verizon...hey look at that, is that a KICK ME! sign I see on your back?!?!

Ya I would think there's a way around it. Sq lite maybe? Not the best at bypassing stuff
I don't particularly mind. Never used it much. What pissed me off was VZW decided to add NFL Premium to all the lines on my plan without me asking for it. That's $6 a month per line I never asked for. Soon as I saw that I canceled it.

Serious question. I've had root on my android since the day the Evo came out. This long wait for the S5 was killing me. Now that we have root, what precautions do we have to take to be sure we don't get an update that will kill it? I seem to remember a program called fota killer or something like that for the Evo. Do we need that (or something similar) for the S5?

There is an option in SuperSU called Survival Mode. Check that Box and that should keep root for you even through and OTA.
Additionally find the software update service in Titanium Backup and freeze it.
This question has been beaten like a dead horse on XDA.

Sometimes it is easier to tell people to use the search function, sometimes it is easier just to answer their question.
Freeze att update server apk or whatever it's called.

So, just out of curiosity, since you managed to add nothing useful to the thread, how many of those questions had to do with the ATT version of the S5 running KitKat and Towelroot'ed?
Yeah, that's what I thought.
Can't we all just get alone.... LOL

He's shown a pattern of similarly useless posts in other threads.
On topic, freeze "AT&T Software update V44_2_1402_5_1"
This app is always really unresponsive, especially in first use. Trying to scroll a page can cause freezes for a few seconds.
Not seeing this with any other function. Stock Google factory build with Franco kernel running stock settings.
I bought the app for simplicity and speed over having to use a browser but the browser is normally faster?
Ideas?
Its junk and I would never pay for it. I prefer XDA desktop in Dolphin browser!
XDA app is really weak. You can try tapatalk, but it's also slow while scrolling, etc. Just poor coded apps from what I've been told. You can try tweaking your system to improve performance in the app, but it won't be perfect.
aosp browser with xda only, no apps needed nor wanted. always fast this way
I've said a million times the only reason I use Tapatalk is because there aren't any alternatives. XDA app is pretty much the same thing.
I cant complain about app, its works, notification works fast, no problems, sometimes kinda slow loading, but never crash
Good to know. Surprising given the skill of many people on this forum, a simple app like this should be perfect..... They have my money so too late for me! Back to the browser.

Tapatalk isn't made by XDA. The XDA app is also just a branded and licensed Tapatalk client. No apps are "perfect" either, regardless whoever created it.

I didn't know that. Even more surprising that the brilliance within the xda community would put their name to this crud.

Not sure if it can be considered as a serious alternative but give a try to Forum Fiend. I didn't test recent updates but the user experience was slightly different compared to Tapatalk.

Its just that there are hardly any good alternatives. Most forums apps you can find will be based on the Tapatalk API anyways, too.

Can't come fast enough. I do have a feature request for XDA One. I want it to data mine all the links I press and send me to an XDA redirect that's down half the time, pr2-xda-devolpers.com. Make that happen, and I'm on board. Oh, and I want little XDA branding on all the screenshots I upload.

O frabjous day, calloo callay! This is pleasant news because I don't think it can be overstated how ghastly and absolutely horrid the Tapatalk user experience and design are.
Looking foward to the new app however; it's obvious the current one is lacking and far behind
That is wonderful news. I have one question not related to the actual development of the app, will it replace the free and premium apps or become a new app? (Reason being is I bought both Tapatalk and XDA Pro)
Try Tapatalk, it just got better.
