[Q] Ok, we have root. How do we keep it? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Serious question. I've had root on my android since the day the Evo came out. This long wait for the S5 was killing me. Now that we have root, what precautions do we have to take to be sure we don't get an update that will kill it? I seem to remember a program called fota killer or something like that for the Evo. Do we need that (or something similar) for the S5?

There is an option in SuperSU called Survival Mode. Check that Box and that should keep root for you even through and OTA.

Additionally find the software update service in Titanium Backup and freeze it.

Sometimes it is easier to tell people to use the search function, sometimes it is easier just to answer their question.

Freeze att update server apk or whatever it's called.

So, just out of curiosity, since you managed to add nothing useful to the thread, how many of those questions had to do with the ATT version of the S5 running KitKat and Towelroot'ed?
Yeah, that's what I thought.

Can't we all just get alone.... LOL

He's shown a pattern of similarly useless posts in other threads.
On topic, freeze "AT&T Software update V44_2_1402_5_1"

Antivirus

Antivirus? Is there a need? If so which one is best thanks
Try Lookout

To be honest, I doubt that you need it. As long as you watch your downloading etc habits.
I have no issue with odin.....If I were to catch something it's back to stock and reflash for me. No antivirus here. BTW - this is not advise, it's just my personal motto.
Thanks I'm gonna try agv or lookout if not for the antivirus then for the finding my phone if I lose it somehow

I've also been using NetQin which has a lot of great features that others only offer in their paid versions.

seconding this, just make sure the app you download only has access to what it is suppose to do, on a side note, I use antivirus free.
I feel they are pretty pointless as long as you get all your apps from the market and read the reviews before downloading anything.
Just be smart about what you download.
it only wastes battery.
go look at any thread about "crappy battery" you will notice 1 thing!
they all run antivirus
One word LINUX.
That is what android is. It will only do what you tell it to.
As others have said watch what you download. The only way to infect your phone is by your own mis-judgement. There are no auto installers, you have to approve everything you do.
That being said why would you need an anti-virus?
I mostly agree with that...
However, with the recent issue with Google pulling several Malware apps from the market(most that were duplicates of legitimate apps)
I am a bit worried about where this is heading.
Although I suggest using Droidwall
With a white list to only allow specific apps to access internet.
Listen, I'm brand new to the cappy, so I'm here to learn, and new to Android, and I just learned tho ditch my a/v!

How about a hammer or better yet don't lose your phone.
There are a few on the market. Lookout Mobile Security get 4 1/2 stars.

There is a really good feature on this forum, it is called SEARCH, have you heard of google its a search engine you type what you want to find and it gives you results? Then you don't need to be here all day
Try this http://bit.ly/10V7iry
Alternatively you can unlock your bootloader and have root today

If it takes you all day to browse through the first few pages of General and Q&A then you're not doing it right.

I rooted the Gear using KINGO!

As usual, Kingo is the king. it roots and unroots. i did it on my Note 3, my G2 and now my brand new gear. Takes about a minute.

Just my two cents from watching the forums I know over in the ATT n3 page they removed it and all links to it because they haven't proven that there isn't any harmful malware or anything else. So from all I have read if you use be careful and read everything fully.

This is normal, it is a bug that hopefully they will fix one day. Everyone has been getting it, some more than others and a few have not. Just tap not to remind me for 30 days and go on with life.
Actually that's not Lookout. Its the new built in security policy. It looks similar. It can be turned off in settings>security

Since you are a previous iPhone user, I will assume that this ignorant post is based on lack of knowledge. However, flaming is not tolerated in xda forums. By the way, did you ever successfully transfer your data off of your 4s?

No problem friend. Sorry I couldn't elaborate earlier I had a few things going on.

What are you guys doing now that kr is over?

Going to jb? Staying on kk?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm not going to comment on all that dev drama crap. It sucked. I'm over it. Anyways KR is still kick ass for me and so I'm staying. I'm kitkat spolied. We can't get any AOKP or cynagenmod so this is the tip of it. The sad thing is that a talented dev screwed us and himself on the donation front. Damn I said I wouldn't go there......my bad.
Sent from my Note 3 "Ghostwerks style".....using your mom's hacked AT&T wifi.....dig it?
I plan on staying with KitKat even though my favorite rom is gone. Not sure what to think about the situation but I guess my phone will continue to run KR5.6 until I find something better. I think it is unlikely that Note 3 users will get anything better than what we saw with that particular dev even though it was a pretty shady situation.
Just my opinion...
Can somebody please send me a valid link to kr5.6? Maybe Dropbox or something just so I can experience it? I wasn't around to grab it b4 the drama or whatever was going on

Unfortunately seems like Drakey was porting all the ATT roms over and Dev them so looks like were at a standstill with roms unless someone else comes forward and can dev.
What a shame the whole thing...

With @graydiggy...X-note 12 runs fine. Speaking of which, wonder if there was really a "kernel" issue with X-note 13 or if the guy needed a donation to get it fixing.
Oh wells, like someone else said on this thread. Someone will figure out the porting process and take care of us AT&T users.
I'm still using KR for now until a better KitKat ROM is out. I wasn't experiencing any issues except a messaging fc when using the pen to show a preview. I was able to fix this by flashing another ROM and using titanium backup to backup messages and flash back to KR then do a restore in titanium. So I guess I'm staying for now.

Sorry
I didnt mean any disrespect!
Just seemed like drakey was the only dev over there whether it was his KR or him porting over other peoples stuff.
My apologies.
When I get some time Ill check out your thread and work.
Thanks in advance for providing the community with your work.
The reason it gets brought up so much is because people actually did care for his work and it's sad that he tarnished his great work but now this gives us all an opportunity to try other devs great work..just wish we had a flash able kit kat rom that can be flashed via the new safestrap..my computer is actin up and don't want to risk my pic shutting down in middle of an Odin flash
