[Q] Slideout Keyboard Problem - HTC LIBRA (SMT5800) - HTC Libra

Hi, i have an issue with my phone... I was texting then suddely the slideout keyboard started malfuctioning
The space, function, ****/caps and the period wont work. Also the two softkeys wont work... All the other keys work fine, and the weird thing is, when I press shift+backspace and function+enter it types "mx"
I hope its a software problem cuz right now I dont have money to get it checked out and its an old phone so theres no warranty to use
Thanks!

This did not work AT ALL. In fact, it apparently disabled ALL of the keys from both keyboards and I had to do ANOTHER hard reset. I couldn't even turn the phone off, had to remove the bat to do it...

I opened the back of the phone and removed the case... I removed the circuit board and I looked around... Everything seemed fine but my slideout keyboard still doesnt work
Do you think it could be a problem with the keyboard or maybe something got disconnected or something?
Please help, i dont have any money to get it fixed

Hi ramsfan
Sadly the problem is most likely the flat ribbon cable that connects the k/b to the c/b
i have seen a lot of htc phones having k/b and screen failures because of cheap a ribbon cable that is expected to be able to slip and slide hundreds and hundreds of times but will not.
You can try opening it back up and pull the connector at each end of the smaller (of the two) gold ribbon cables.
rarely (very rarely) cleaning and reseating connectors works , at first use a cleaned or new toothbrush, if that doesn't work dab a small amount of rubbing alcohol on the toothbrush,
Hope this works for you, if not you will need a new cable, then i suggest you stop using the slide out k/b because your video cable is next on the failure list and with most htc slide phones the video cable comes attatched to a pretty, clean and new display screen.

ExtUSB port seems broken...

The ExtUSB port on my tytn2 seems to be broken, or something.
When I plug it into my computer it is no longer recognised, and doesn't even start to charge anymore.
Similarly, if I plug in any sort of charger, then the device will not do anything.
In an effort to charge it, I did the following. I removed the battery, thereby switching the device totally off, put the battery back in and then attached a mains charger. At this point I got a solid red LED at the top where the signal/charge LED is. I left it like this for 2 hours and came back to it. I switched it back on and it had fully charged the device - yet I still could not get it recognised by anything.
So what's going on here - is it broken or is this a software issue.
Ignore the reflash bit. How am I supposed to do that if I can't get USB working? Stupid question sorry. Still, I've tried a hard reset and still nothing, so I guess it's knackered huh
EDIT: Replacement is on it's way for tomorrow. Puts an end to that saga I suppose!
HTC's miniUSB port uses traces for contacts instead of pins, which I can't even begin to express how ridiculous that is. To make matters worse, the soft reset pinhole is located right next to it so one slight jab of the stylus, car keys in your pocket etc and you're screwed. You may have done it without even noticing.
Flashing roms is out of the question, but you can use PocketController to make it look as stock as possible through wifi. Another alternative is to take your device to a college/university micro-electronics lab where they will fix it for a small donation or free.

Best of luck, but it might not be the end of your saga. When it gets to servicing, if they notice something was jabbed in the miniSUB port, they could come at you with out of warranty fees.
I have insurance on my phone. It's covered for accidental damage anyway.
Yep. Figured that out the hard way. Accidently stuck my stylus into the USB rather than the reset hole.
If you're lucky, you may be able to "push" the traces on the bottom side of the connector back in place... only one side of my connector was bent. Then I gently connected and re-connected a mini-usb connector.

Where are you getting insurance ? I can't find anywhere.

With Orange! Orange Care. Has done me proud a few times in the past, like when I crushed my SPV M2000 on the day I got it! Or when someone dropped my SE K700i in a pint of beer.
New phone is here and instantly I have noticed a couple of things:
1) Different type of battery, as already reported by some people. It's the Dynapack that doesn't quite fit properly.
2) Screen seems brighter and more colourful - again, as reported by some people already
3) The screen tilt is much stiffer (which is good cos the old one was really loose)
4) MicroSD cover feels of better material.
5) Whole thing feels so much quicker - but that's probably just because I've not loaded anything into it yet.

kaiser repair problem

so i cracked my LCD a couple weeks back..today i recieved a replacment LCD from htclcd.com ...followed the instructions from the site..now i turn on my phone..and everything works perfectly..exept it cant find a signal anymore...seems to recognize the sim card...everything else works fine..just no signal...where could the problem lie? any suggestions? thanks in advance!
I would be very suprised if the lcd has caused this issue, have you tried a manual network selection yet?
It is likely that you have accidently disconnected or damaged antenna or connection to the antenna. I'd try to disassemble, examine visually that all parts are OK and reassemble the phone.
thats that i was thinking..but i dont know where the antenna is located in the phone so i dont even know where to begin to look
Hi stolli,
please let me know if you could repair your phone I have the same breakdown for the same reasons.
thank you
is there a way to replace the keyboard or fix the problem somehow?
It may just be the Keyboard FPC connector is not inserted firmly enough. See pages 21 and 33 of the manual.

did you insert the lugs from the battery side first? the contacts are the gold pieces...if they are intact they should be fine..when you put the tilt backtogether did you put it together firmly, tighting all the bolts? also make sure flight mode isnt on

Yes, I also slightly recovered "lugs" that looks a bit twisted.
Do you with one is used for GSM?

I changed several times mode phone to flight to test the line but still nothing.
I will work in Paris tomorrow, I'll test the gsm signal will be better , but on my other phone with the same Sim all is good.
Thanks.
the reason why the lugs are neceassy is to hold the casing firmly down so the gold connecters touch...make sure that the casing is tightened firmly down..and maybe lift the gold connecters on the main casing a little bit so they stick out more (thats what i did)..make sure not to break them tho..
The problem must come an other part, the lugs are good.
I had great difficulty connect to GSM in Paris yesterday.
I have disassembled it again checked and reassembled but nothing new.
thanks for your help.
Hello
I killed my Kaiser by flashing a Touch Diamond ROM to it.
Sent it to repair service and they say the Mainboard needs to be replaced, but the price for repair is ultragious .
I realy need the device,it was a big help in my confused life style.
Can anyone tell me how can i fix it myself. Or where i can buy a mainboard. Or where can i send the device to repair for a cheaper service?
Thanks in advance for all your help guys.
Some of the keys on my keyboard are dead, any clue? Disassembled several times with no luck...
Doh... looks like the keys are gone.
WOW! It works, when I gave up! Ironic! DD
Ok, so if there happens to be others with the same issue.
Make sure when you connect the golden keyboard connector that the black thin line on it gets positioned exactly where the brown lock ends.

sounds like we are in a simmer boat !!
i dont think this is software it could be hardware ...
i opened my one & striped it & cleaned it but no fixing this issue YET
To me it sounds like you have a faulty ribbon cable. Search the forum for that. Lot's of people have had problem with the cable but the effects of the faulty cable may vary. It may be a simple fix but you must open up the phone. Mechanical wear shorts out the traces when phone slided and if they are intact you can try to isolate the cable with some adhesive tape or similar.
GL,A.D
I also suspect the ribbon to be damaged
have a look here for details

Trackball boot

PLZ help im freaking out. i accidentally booted into the blue light mode, but when i pulled the battery and rebooted the backlight wouldnt work. i could see everything and even navigate my phone but only under a light. the backlight just wont turn on during boot and changing the setting doesnt help.
i dont get it the thing was working 10 minutes ago and now i cant use it what should i do? i love this phone but i cant afford a new one. is there a way to tell it to turn on during boot in the console?
ok new update the backlight works if i have the keyboard open. i know 100% its software and not the screen. something when wrong with the boot prosses or something.
i think the trackball boot (bluelight boot) must have options but wont display on the screen maybe. like a bios menu. this is very infuriating
Why don't you restore a recent backup?
i have even went as far as downgrading with the .nbh file. and re installing the bootloader (Just the original, didnt want a brick).
Definitely NOT a software problem.
This is a HARDWARE problem -- hence the fact that it works when the keyboard is open.
When you pulled the battery, you might have twisted/pulled something.
*** I would check the ribbon cable connecting the display to the main body!!!
Bluelight mode (where you end up by booting with the trackball pushed in), is just a serial console allowing interfacing with the radio firmware. Unless you actually had a serial cable connected and punched in some commands (which happen to be security locked, therefore wouldn't work for you anyways), bluelight mode wouldn't be able to do this.

if that were the case than wouldnt it flicker if i flex the screen/hinge ? ill try anything at this point cuz im outa warranty and have no money . im going to the store later trying to update to official 1.6 so i can convince them its software related and they may replace it for me.
oh forgot to mention that if i close it and open it the light stays off untill i hit end and unlock with menu again. im not to sure if that helps.
OK OK OK you are right. i just half closed it and the light stayed on untill it compleatly closed (so the screen flipped, i thought that is what triggered it) and then i got it to stay on completely closed and then the problem flipped to it wouldnt come on while open and now back to the way it was. so im going to go buy a T5 screw driver today and clean the contacts of the ribon cable and reinsert it (i have had experience with that just need to know what ribon. a pic would be nice)

There are two wires going to the screen.. sounds like the "top" one is loose... The jtag photos will give you an idea (it's the two com ports next to the jtag test points)
These are usually taped down very well..
Also you need both a T5 and T6.. the "Security" (has black void sticker) screw is larger than the others.. and a small flat head screwdriver to unclip the cover..
If all else fails: replacement screens seem much cheaper than the phone on ebay.

ok got it apart 3 times and no luck its prolly the ribbon cable. im going to test that soon. i have a donor phone comming soon from a friend who dropped it in water, the ribbon cable should be fine to use. if that doesnt work im thinking maybe it is software. either way if i cant get it fixed by next month im spending $410 on a new mytouch 3G brand new from the store and getting insurance XP

Laptop Keyboard Ribbon... keyboard or motherboard?

Hi guys. I took the Toshiba Keyboard out of my Toshiba A505 laptop so I could clean out the fan and glue some usb drives back in place. I was successful at doing that. But after putting things back together, the keyboard doesn't work right.
Looking around it seems I damaged either the ribbon that connects the keyboard, or the (gulp) connector permanently attached to the motherboard. I ordered a new Toshiba Keyboard and am waiting with fingers crossed. Was wondering if you guys could help me determine which it is to help me sleep better. Here's the facts as well as I can tell...
1) Initially taking out the ribbon I didn't realize it had the little lock feet. I just pulled carefully until it came out.
2) Putting it back in the same way, all letters worked except QAZ.
3) Took it out and put it back in the same way again. All letters worked. But then I realized I forgot to reconnect the touchpad, so I undid and redid it one more time while I took care of that. In doing this I shorted the computer and had to restart (probably shouldn't have done this with the computer on... oh well).
4) Once again all letters work but QAZ.
5) Took it out and put it in a few more times. At some point noticed the lock feet and started using them properly. Fewer letters are working. Only a handful work now. If I push on the ribbon while I play around, I can get more letters to come up, but not usually all of them. Attempts to use tape to achieve a similar effect were not successful.
6) Feeling a bit desperate, tried putting some tin Compatible Parts around the ribbon to help the connection. That didn't help. It shorted it like before. Put it in place with computer off. No short this time but didn't work.
7) As for the condition of the ribbon, it looks ok as far as I can tell. There was a crease in the middle of it initially but that was always there. It is a bit creased towards the end where I was pushing it in. Doesn't look like any of the lines in the ribbon are interrupted. The ends might be a bit scratched... reminds me of the little teeth in a Nintendo cartridge.
So anyway. Wondering which you guys think it is.
Feeling really stupid right about now. Hopefully I'm just $20 keyboard stupid and not motherboard stupid. I don't have any money.
Hello, any help yet?
