Getting Nook apps back on Froyo/Honeycomb?

So I've been playing around with the Honeycomb previews, and was wondering if anyone's been able to get the stock nook reading/lending/etc.. apps working in Honeycomb.
I was able to transfer the games over via adb, although the layout is off on chess and the sensor at the edge doesn't pick up all presses on crossword.
Specifically, I really like the default reading app and side-loading epubs and would like to get that working.
Has anyone done this already or know which dependent apk's different components of the stock nook software use?
TIA
I also would like to get the B&N apps to run properly in Honeycomb. I am currently running rooted 1.1, because I want the B&N apps. My son use Nookbooks for kids and I prefer the default Nook app when I read. I don't purchase many books, but the ones I do buy are from B&N because I want to support them. If we don't support B&N they will stop making great devices like the original Nook and the Nook Color.
I do realize I can run the Android app and buy books via the web, but Nookbooks for kids is not available in the Android market.
Yeah, I'm playing around with it and seeing if I can get anything working with it.
I really like the stock Android apps, but like how much better honeycomb is designed for tablets (vs. froyo/eclair or the stock bn that can only have books in the home screen).
Will post back if I have any success... and I think it's a dumb rule that you need 10 posts to put anything in the dev forum. Supposedly this area is for noobs asking about how to install nookie etc.. and the other is for "dev" but half the posts over in dev are people talking about installation trouble and half the posts here are people posting things that would be better suited to the dev section. /rant
So I adb pushed everything bn over to honeycomb, but nothing shows up. Try to install Reader.apk and get error that it's missing required bncloudapi.
I have the jar file in frameworks, and the permissions files, but not sure if there's something else I should be looking for. TIA

Nook App vs. Nook Home

So working with the CM7 nightly builds and the nook app for android, I'm struck by how much I'm finding I like the nook app better than the nookcolor home and reader. I can read my bought books, sideload books and everything else. On top of that I get pageturn animations that don't exist on the stock reader. The font selection is a bit more limited and some of the interface doesn't seem as refined, but it really doesn't seem that much of a tradeoff.
Anybody else running CM7? What are your impressions of the nook app?
I use the nook app on my phone, so that is what I was already used to. It did run sluggish on the NC the first time I used it, but I realoaded it and it is fine now.. mainly slow page turns.
does the Nook App have the same features as the Home one - Notes, Look Up, Highlight? what are the real limitations comparing to stock? that's the only thing that stops me from upgrade now, the whole reader integration on stock.
Does the nook app require you to import your sideloaded books like aldiko or is it like the nook home, and uses a file manager to locate books?
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
I only did a quick try using the Nook App, but the one major downside I noticed is no support for magazine subscriptions. However, not much of a problem for those of you who don't have them. Also the look up, notes, highlighting etc built into the NC stock aren't available in the app. Everyone is entitiled to their opinion, but the only thing I consider better on the Nook App are the page turn animations and that really doesn't improve the use as much as the additional support and features available on the stock app. That's why I'm waiting for CM7 sd image, guess I'll have to stick with my stock emmc for reading and nookie froyo sd for tablet features until them.
I wish you could tap to turn the page in the app (or am I doing something wrong?).
With the Android Nook App (not the Nook Color Stock Reader/Library) - is there a way to move sideloaded books to the "Library" ?
Or do they just remain as "My Files".

I am able to tap to turn the page.
I like the look and feel of the stock Nook Home but I definitely prefer the performance increases in CM7 vs stock Eclair.
I much prefer the Market Nook app. In fact when I first used the nook my wife commented on how "slow" the stock reader went through pages.
I don't really use the nook app either way myself (prefer Amazon), but I must admit that without the Market Nook app I couldn't tell people I have a tablet because the first thing they ask for (to demonstrate) is page turn animations. iPad set the bar there, and B&N out of the box didn't deliver....
I am having a problem importing epub files into the Nook app I am running phiremod nook V4.1 rom. I copied a epub file into the my files folder but it doesn't show up in the apps my files.
I don't really get the page turn animations? What's the point? Doesn't it slow down page turns?
I used the stock rooted setup for a few days, and then installed rom along with Nook App.
I didnt like the Nook App because of the lack of magazine/newspaper support.
The stock Nook setup is better IMO, it just feels better overall in terms of really getting the most out of your nookcolor. Magazines, newspapers, etc..
Oh and turn page animation? really? LOL c'mon ppl. I'm going to pay an extra $300 for page turn feature??
Is there anyway to use the stock nook setup with a custom rom?
"Also the look up, notes, highlighting etc built into the NC stock aren't available in the app."
I just tried these things and they work fine in the app. It would be nice to have the dictionary built in but hey, I have the dicitonary.com app if I really need to know. (On CM7)

How are you getting the app to work on the nightly builds? I am able to get in the app click stuff but if i download a book it just says file not supported. Also I had a couple of books on my sd card and moved them to the books folder for the app and it doesnt work either. Would you mins telling me how you got it to work? Thanks
I admit that of the Nook App for Android versus the Nook App for Stock that I much preferred the stock one.
But I really love the Nook as a tablet rather than a simple eReader, so I cancelled my magazine subscriptions this last week rather than having to go back to stock to read them.
b&n, if you actually read these forums, PLEASE give us magazine and newspaper subscriptions with the Nook for Android app, I promise that I will subscribe if you do!!
The Nook app won't download the "Read to me" children's books I bought. Otherwise I'd stop using the ROM on SD.
I too like using the Nook App on CM7 but has anyone figured out how to get the covers to show up for sideloaded content? Most of my stuff is copied over from my Calibre library, all covers show up fine in Aldiko but in the Nook app, no covers. Not a big deal really but just thought I would throw it out there in case someone has a fix.

Nook Color - Reading Magazine after root?

Is it possible to still read magazines after rooting the Nook? I have the Nook AP on my XOOM and I cannot read any magazines on it. My wife's Nook has not been rooted yet but she would like to be able to use it more like a Tablet and use the Nook AP to access her books. But if she can't read her magazines, she wouldn't be too happy.
Can anyone help? Thanks!

While I don't know about magazines, I was able to buy a book and use the "lend me" feature.
This. was using the native NC program with rom 1.1 an3.0.0.
I read magazines just fine on a rooted nook.

Currently the magizine feature is not avaible on the app. The main reason is the registration and subscription concerns. Soon enough it may be avalible

I can't speak for the app, but I can confirm that my rooted NC reads my magazine subscriptions without any problems at all.

Do you use an AP to read them?
I would think that if you want to root the nook is because you'd like do what you want with it. (i.e.) not have to pay for stuff like that.
I use Aldiko for all my reading, imported or otherwise.
I rooted mine with Auto Nooter 3.00 and my B&N store and being able to download and read anything I download works just fine.
As long as when you root, you stay on the stock 2.1 android, you will have the same B&N Nook app as before rooting, and magazines and childrens books work fine
If you switch to android 2.2 or 2.3 or 3.0 (honeycomb), then you need to use the standard Nook app, which won't read magazine or childrens books.
What i don't get, is that one would buy a Nook Color to root it to do heavy reading.
Why not? That's one of its features and it's a great one at that. Sure, you may be primarily interested in using it as a tablet, but why could you not also be interested in "heavy reading"?

That's answers my question perfect.
If and when I rooted, I was going to stay with the stock 2.1. My wife only wants to root it in order to install aps from the market and not be so "hand cuffed" by the B&N software.

She doesn't do heavy reading.
Also, many times people buy things because they don't completely understand what the best thing to buy is.
She does read on it and she loves being able to read magazines (and the childrens books that read to them) but she also likes the idea of being able to install aps (games, FB, Twitter and so forth).

I assume Auto Nooter 3.00 is pretty easy to do? I did root my Droid X but that was very simple in running the z4root file, it did everything for me.
Also, once I run Auto Nooter 3.00 will I still be able to access the B&N software (I assume that is how you are reading your mags?).

Auto Nooter 3.00 still rests on the 2.1 kernal, and still uses the default B&N reader app that comes with that kernal, providing you with access to the Magazines.
As pointed out you only lose access to the readers if you install any of the 2.2 or 2.3 kernals that then require the 'standard' B&N Nook app for the android that you can download from the Android store.
This is one reason why I'm actually dual booting at this time. Using the autonootered Nook for my magazine reading, but using my SD card to boot to 2.2 and its much better experience as an Android tablet for everything else.

Gotcha! If I start trying to get her to boot from an sdcard things could go haywire quickly (for her and possibly me! lol).
Once rooted, I assume there is just a ap link that you click to go to the B&N reader which makes it operate like a stock Nook?

[Q] Anyone know much about status of Nook android app?

On Nook os 1.1, a device rooted with Monster Root Pack was able to run the nook app for Android. Autonooted devices never could run it.
On the 1.2 release, the nook app won't work.
There are a lot of reasons to prefer the nook app over the library app. One route to getting it is to install CM7, I realize, but I do prefer the stock interface.
With the relase of the Nook Touch, which is excellent for what it is, I'd really like to be able to keep my reading positioned synched between an NC and an NST. Without using the library.
I spent a fair amount of time trying to get fbsync to work and am not able to yet (set up exactly identical paths on the NC and NST for books with the same title, yet they still each track reading position independently.. cleared web and on=-device caches, rebooted devices, waited, ultimately waited overnight then checked....)
So, is anyone working on hacking the Nook App to work on the Nook Color? I've asked BN multiple times for this and am not getting a response.
I would pay 50 bucks for a copy of the nook app that ran on the the NC running rooted OS 1.2.
I suppose the other option is to roll back to 1.1 and root with monster root pack. I think I lose relatively little by going that route.
Running Phiremod 6.2 on my Nook I use the nook app from the market.I prefer it over the stock reader. The page turn animation feature actually works and page turns is more responsive than stock reader
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk
Right, I realize I could also go to phiremod or cm7. I've just never liked them very much, though having bluetooth support is helpful, the battery penalty was pretty high last I used them -- has that been resolved?
I did finally get fbsync working this weekend, though, which is super cool. Involved deleting all epubs off both devices - I'd had fbreader installed on the NC for a bit, moved over to Aldiko, and had lots of odd, random paths to things in the fbreader database.
Now I'm figuring out if I can launch fbreader from a commandline and use a cron utility to launch it a couple of times a day, just to remind myself to sync.

OMG, absolutely!!!! I just installed CM7.1, RC1 (from Phiremod 6.3) and Dalingrin's 6/30/11 kernel this weekend and battery life is incredible. This is a whole new animal. This baby's definitely ready for primetime. Along with the new Nook App for Android that allows you to read magazines, and the Nook Color is 1000 times the machine it was running stock 1.1.0. I'm smitten all over again.

[Q] Rooting to android for nook hd

Hi I'm new to this forum and new to the nook world. My parents recently bought my son a nook hd for Xmas and he really likes it but as I help him go thru it we see there isn't a whole lot you can do with it and there doesn't seem to be many apps that he can use. I've done some searching online and on you tube on how to root and have come across a lot of info to set the nook as an android but they were all for nook color. Some of the features these videos offered would certainly be things I know my son would enjoy. The other thing I came across was rooting the nook without voiding the warranty, is this something that can be done? Any help and direction will be much appreciated. My apologies if this is something that has already been posted I tried searching but wasn't lucky finding such a thread.
I personally own an ipad mini so no too familiar with the nook so this is certainly new territory for me. Thanks in advance for your help.
Rooting will void your warranty. However, you can install an Android ROM, called CM10, to a microsd card and run it off of the card, never touching the HD's internal storage. For more info see this thread :

You actually don't have to worry about warranty with rooting, there is a simple way to restore to complete stock. Just reboot 8 times, interupting the process before it completes. Go here if you want to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613, CM10 is still a little buggy...
PS, rebooting means holding down the power button 10 sec to completely turn off.
This is true. I actually prefer rooted stock to CM10 as of now. For someone just starting out, my advice would still be to install CM10 to an SD card. They can play around with it and see what their HD or HD+ can do when it's unfettered. And they don't have to worry about messing up their Nook, ot about B&N updates taking root away. Then, when they feel more confident, they can root stock and really enjoy their Nook. But either approach will work fine in the end!

Thank you so much for this information. I do have some more questions to your post. How exactly would I reboot, do you mean reboot the nook 8 times how would I do this process. Also, we have purchased some apps so if we do the rooting, will my son lose those apps, will we need to back up the nook before rooting. Sorry for all the questions I just want to make sure I have the full understanding before I proceed. Thanks!
For what it is worth, the nook hd already has Android ice cream sandwich installed. It is the home screen launcher and omission of certain Google apps that make it appear limited. In fact, without rooting, you can follow instructions posted at B&N's website how to sideload an alternate launcher and many Android apps to unleash lots of features.
E.g., Chrome works perfectly when side loaded. In order to side load without root, install on a PC the nook hd drivers, the android SDK, the nook HD SDK, and then use the android debug bridge from a command prompt to install apps (*.apk format) to a connected nook. Also, epubs from the Google Play store should be accessible via the Sony Reader android app if side loaded. I installed launcher pro, drop box, amazon kindle, Sony Reader, amazon mp3, Facebook, yahoo mail, adobe acrobat Reader, and neutron player without a problem. You can still access all the standard B&N apps by toggling between launchers with the n button. I did all this yesterday on 2.0.5. B&N posted in their online developer Web pages incredibly specific directions on how to set up windows, Mac and Linux to side load.
set an afternoon aside as it is tedious, but follow the instructions at
https://nookdeveloper.zendesk.com/entries/21943338-nook-developer-start-up-guide#_Sideloading
Note that the instructions are directed to downloading your own written apps. However, you can download Android apk files all over the web and side load them to the nook using the described process.
Enjoy and good luck!

If you want to completely reset the device to the way it was when you first took it out of the box (unrooted, unregistered, and all your added stuff erased), then you interrupt the boot process 8 times in a row by holding the power button so it shuts off again before completing the start up.
Rooting gives you the ability to do more with your Nook, but all of the B&N interface is accessible too. As long as the Nook is registered to the B&N account with his apps, they'll still be available.
I don't know how old your son is but be aware that parental controls available with the B&N profiles only applies to the B&N interface.
It's a good idea to backup. The tool which allows you to root also has the option to back it up if you want.

Android market is the same as Play Store. You can get Amazon kindle there. Just register with Google in the Play Store and all that stuff becomes available.

My son has been having a great time with the nook being rooted. He did run into a problem and I certainly don't know how to fix it. He was trying to set the dim settings timer and screen shut off but can't do so. Any way to fix this? Thanks!
