Gingerbreadness - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So... been outta the loop for a while. Is there a working gingerbread for my cappy yet?

CM7 and a MIUI port based off of CM7. Both are works in progress. Been running cm7 for two weeks

Yeap, I'll definitely recommend CM7 if you have to use Gingerbread (and understand the problems with them and the risks of the flashing process). Nightly builds keep it running pretty stable for a beta.

You might want to get "in the loop" before you try to use CM7 as a daily driver. There are several very nicely modded 2.2 and 2.2.1 roms that work extremely well and have few if any bugs. If you just have to have GB, you'll need to read the CM7 thread and figure out if it's worth it to you.

Hopefully with the leaked I9000 version we'll see some good stable gingerbread roms in a while.

Thanks everyone. I've been running froyo since it was leaked, and it works fine, I'll just stay with that for now

There's an official froyo build. You don't have to run the leaked bull****. I would highly recommend CM7. It's cured my flashing addiction. The nightly updates are also sweet. It's really stable and fast for a beta build.

They haven't released the source yet so nothing is going to happen for the captivate until the source is released. Which most likely wont occur.

Aosp Honeycomb rom

You think we should expect a fully stable hc rom when the source is released?
I'm not sure why there aren't any ginger roms running on the nc,
Is anyone anxiously waiting for the source to be released so they can build the rom?...
I'm hoping it will come out next week along with the xoom... as ginger came out with nexus s.....

well the honeycomb preview v4 seems to be extremely stable for a sdk port(besides for a few minor bugs of course) but when aosp gets released honeycomb will be fully stable(after a few builds of course lol)
and if you want a gingerbread rom i read that CM7 will be released soon
CM7 is out and working
check the post "CM7 is coming" there is a post that links to how to do it. I have it running and it great for the first release. I will go to honeycomb though when it gets the kinks worked out. I just love the interface.

Which rom is more stable for milestone ?

Hi guys am on cyanogenmod 7.1.2 and want to know is there any other rom more stable than this ? ...... How about miui because I love the ui of it ?...Does clockworkmod work with milestone ....................hey how do i change one rom to another , i mean should i flash the .sbf file all again and do all those stuff again ? thank you in advance for your time
Sent from my Milestone using xda premium
clockworkmod should work. just make a back up, wipe caches, and flash.
Miui has an excellent ui but randomly got stuck requiring a battery pull and didnt really work well for most games and google maps. Also, the battery life was terrible. Multiple charges a day terrible.
By far the best and most stable rom ive used is the peter alfonso 2.3.7 aosp rom. Its a blank slate with a really stable kernal. Since i switched to that I havent had a single problem and it runs buttery smooth. Hope that helps.

he is talking about the milestone and not the droid so beware cwm doesn't work use open recovery. Plus you cent change kernels on the milestone because of the locked bootloader.
The most stable ginger ROM I have used so far is cm7. If you want froyo roms you can try cm6 or the froyomod.
Miui is nice and pretty stable but you wont have a lot of free ran to ran heavy applications or multitasking.
If you are changing a ROM remember to wipe data + both of the caches

Thanks for the info, what I meant is now that am running on cm 7 if I want to switch to miui should I flash sbf file again and I don't want to root and do al those mod again ...... sorry am a newbie at this, thanks for your time
Sent from my Milestone using xda premium
If you are already on cm7 all you need is to do all the 3 wipes in openrecovery (data, devalik, cache) and apply the Miui update zip.
You don't need to reflash the sbf.

Well I don't think Milestone kernel can be changed, for it is signed by Motorola.
I remember there was a 2.6.35 kernel when cm6 came out, with some issues. But now I can't find it anymore. It was once kept on cyanogenmod4milestone Google Code page.
Can you give me the link to the rom you mentioned above ( Peter alfonso 2.3.7 aosp )
Thank you !
thats for the droid not the milestone sorry.....

I've found nadblabak's / kabaldan's CM7 to be waaaaay more stable than Motorola's 2.1 - never ever had a crash with CM7, at least weakly with stock. Turned my old Milestone into a completely new phone (I've moved to CM9 pre-alpha now, it's way cooler and not necessarily unstable, but rather incomplete and generally unfinished)
I found out after using froyomod, cm6, cm7, miui, ho no, that ho no is the most stable, featured and fast at the same time. Using 7.1.2, dont know about newer releases
Sent from my Milestone using Tapatalk
CM7 from Kabaldan works fine to me, and too much pretty with ICS theme.
HoNo
HoNO CM7 is pretty much stable and is fine for everyday use. Am testing the ICS CM9 alpha version right now. Its reasonably good considering its just in the alpha stage now. All thanks to the genius Kabaldan

Why everyone uses the buggy CM7 rom base ?

Hello all,
I have tried EVERY SINGLE ROM on my mini galaxy for the past 4 months.
They only stable rom I found without unwanted FC is the Minimod X final.
It is so hard to find a stable non-stock rom these day while everyone ports the CM7/9 rom and changes it in some way.
Have you thought about that the CM7/9 rom is not STABLE enough to build on it ?
I wish there will be other updated stable roms that does NOT based on the buggy CM7/9 roms

CM9 is in beta stage, not only for our device, but as an OS in general so no question about that. as for CM7, hmmm, it may be buggy for you but not for all. kittenlinux build's and mebitek's builds are pretty stable for me. Also, that is the essence of development, resolve all unwanted bugs.
Thanks for your reply Kitrax. When I'm talking about instability, I mean a FC few times a week in a moderate use of the phone. When you say pretty stable, Can you use the build for a week without a FC ? The only one that stood up to this to me is the Minimod X final......

Yeah, I can use these ROMs without FC for a week. Well, that would depend on the apps that are force closing on your phone.
have you tried MORe rom? it's stable for me...
and about cm7, I think that's because it isn't the final release...
Thanks again kitrax and droid,
I just installed the latest kittenlinux rom, Since kitrax said that it worked quite stable for him (I saw that meibtek's rom has still some gps problem which was fixed in kittenlinux's rom).
I hope that this rom with the latest full Gapps will work as stable as i expect a rom to work.

Of course! It's still on the beta stage!
I think the baseband version you are using do some different effect.
Some baseband isn't good to some custom ROM.
i've been using the CM 7.2 RC1 since yesterday and it is stable up to now.
I've installed all my programs (premotedroid, Circle battery wodget, Extreme alarm clock, 3g watchdog), And up to now it didnt gave me any FC.
Hope it'll keep working stable. Will let you know whats up.
Thank you folks for your help and insights
i like squad's ROM but the CMobile is buggy! Long time no see him to fix this! (on madteam)
talking about stable cm
didn't you tried official cm for tass
I've tried the official CM 7.2 that came out few weeks ago, But didn't found it stable.
Strange, I was using a lot of roms too, and I experienced bugs and fc's only on few of them... maybe You just expecting too much from this little device, especially when you get a lot of fc's even on stock rom...

Cm7 more powerful than stock...
Afaik, cm7.2 by mebitek/kittenlinux was stable! Never gave me fC
I like the rom that I can play with, so I'm back to cyanmobile

Can someone comment on stability/usefulness of official CM9?

Nightlies just started officially dropping the other day, so I'm curious what you guys have thought thus far.
Found here: http://get.cm/?device=quincyatt
I'm on a stock ICS build, so I think I have to flash a GB ROM and then flash CM from there. Which is fine; just curious

Going by cm based roms as of june, it's very stable, definitely stable enough for daily driver. Issues as of june, shorter battery, possible GPS issues, blue tooth a2dp stable connection.
I'd definitely give it a try and thanks for the heads up.
And yes, you need to flash from GB kernel with Root and cwm afaik.

1+ I concur, even though I didn't get on-board with paranoid android rom until version 04 was released but it is an EXCELLENT rom! Maybe the PA team should get together with Samsung on making this rom preinstalled software for the next generation of galaxy note.
Never gonna happen

on my device (ymmv!), after the basic tweaks (disabling unnecessary apps, syncs etc.), the standby battery life was not worse than on stock GB or ICS. During normal usage, esp. while browsing on wifi it was much better - the estimated current consumption on CM9 was at ca. 500mA on new ICS 4.0.4 its closer to 750mA in the same conditions.

[q] i9001 - Giving phone away to friend, need stable ROM

Hey guys - I'm about to give my i9001 away having just got a Nexus 4. In the meantime I've been having stability issues with this rom (ivendor cm10.1) - regular shutdowns that require removing and replacing the battery to fix, and various freezing issues.
So I'm looking for a very stable, very polished, simple ROM to put on before I give it away to someone who's a pretty good friend. Something CM based would be grand, and GB based is fine if those are the most stable (and she's used to GB). Any ideas?
After that I guess I'll be signing out of this area - you've all been a great help and I'm sure I would have dumped the phone long ago without you!

Oh, ok . Sorry, wasn't thinking straight, still can't. Sick . But yea, he can also try broodROM GB or ICS if he wants. FOr me JB is stable. but I guess it's diffrent for everybody, I don't use my phone that much now because I'm very busy with school and whatnot. But in the end it's up to him. I would recomend GB anyway, cuz she is use to it, and it is blazing fast.
