over in the samsung galaxy s section ryanZA seems to have come up with a lag fix that is much better then the /data->SD version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=749495
has anyone tried this on the vibrant? im assuming it should work because it only does some partitioning which doesn't really seem like much of a change to anything that might be different between the models....
anyways im not gona try it till i get some confirmations that it does in fact work on the vibrant...

Interesting. It should work fine. I considered that angle, but the bottleneck seemed to be the flash itself. The **** rfs filesystem could certainly be part of the problem though. I'll see if I can work something up that uses our existing stuff like the init.d so we can fsck the filesystem before mounting it to make sure it doesn't get corrupted. It would be nice to not require partitioning as that step seems to confuse the hell out of people for some reason. The down side is possible delays from traversing 2 filesystem drivers, but Quadrant at least seems to like it fine. I wonder how the general lag is for them now, benchmarks aren't everything.

Haha thats true but developers especially ones that make ROMs go thru testing and risk their DEVICES to make sure that nothing is going wrong and all that before "releasing" it. Although this isn't a release of his works he could of at least tested it without telling other people to go try it out, but im gonna sit here and wait for a status report.
same here! i really want this to work for the vibrant.. will keep an eye on this thread

Ran the fix.
Scored 2057 in Quadrant! I want that extra 28 points! lol
Does anyone know if you need to revert JAC's kernel and the EXT-hack script thats included w/ it prior to trying this?
I ran the fix and I got 1700 in Quadrant... hmm I wonder how I can get it above 2000...
Edit: I rebooted... now got 2153.

Wow, that's one MOTHER****** of a long sentence.
You should flash the DOC_KALPIK FROYO JP6/JM6 V6 custom ROM. This ROM is the best I have tried so far. Instructions are on the 2nd or 3rd post and follow them to the letter!
Major credit to Docrambone and Kalpik.
You'll thank me later!
FroYo sucks bigtime for me as well. I've got a fresh jp6 with voodoo and everything still seems slower than jf3 with voodoo. Especially the browsing.. Samsung messed it up, again.

Well benchmark results of oclf are way higher than the ones of voodoo. But voodoo fixes the things u really use. Benchmark is just a stress test 4 ur phone but its far away from really using ur phone.
Did u check repartition while flashing? Coz what ur telling sounds like there is some bad software running in the background. And belive me i know what im talking about i had to do factory reset today after trying to download galerians rom for psx (downloaded @ rombuddy psx) and i wasnt able to locate the malicous file on my phone.
Im on jpm with voodoo and it works perfectly. Psx4droid and all.the gameloft games (asphalt hd, nova and gangsters) are running without problems. Just some psx roms are not but thats problem of the rom amd not froyo.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
so jpm runs more smoothly even with a lower quad rating and yes i repartitioned and lost like a 100 and something apps lol i will try jpm for a bit then see how that runs if its not great ill try the custom jp6 see how that runs. last time i installed jpm after jp3 using "JPM_JPM_U_JPM" as pda it worked but is this the right way.
thnx for your replys
Yes it runns more smothely (in my oppinion) but still ive put voodoo on coz there is some lagging. And jp6 isnt really different from jpm (at least I cant feal any difference between em)
@phandroid
There is a fix for the browser coz samsung really did mess up with that. Just search the forum for froyo browser fix
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I reckon reason why froyo is slow for some is that Samsung put in extra bull**** startup process's. Hence giving you less ram. Disable them with startup manager and install 336meg free ram kernel as froyo comes standard now with only 300 megs readable. Also I am seeing lag after installing jfs lag fix via the universal lag fix kernel. Starting to think all lag fixes screw up after a week. Prob due to fragmentation. I have to reformat every 3 weeks due to data corruption with lag fixes. But without a affix the damned phone is slow as a freakin Nokia phone. Screw you Samsung
Sent from my GT-I9000
Yeah it's a shame that Samsung is able to deliver such great hardware but screw up such a great operating system.
Too bad voodoo won't work with the 340 MB kernel...
Well, let's just hope for another FroYo release.

I don't recall Samsung EVER saying that, and that sounds like an assumption.
And forget about quadrant. It doesn't test realistic workloads. You might have a I/O write speed of 6gb/sec, a read speed of only 1mb/s, and for all we know, Quadrant might treat them equally (even though the phone might barely perform any writing at all). Use it as a guide, but unless you know EXACTLY how it tests the hardware, and the workloads you need, the results can be deceptive.
Also, I messed around with an iPhone 4 2 weeks ago and it was laggier than my SGS even without lagfix in JPM. Sure the scrolling was smoother, but switching between apps was a joke.
Give JPO a try, and wait for stock mods. But personally, I recommend against using filesystem conversion mods.
The ram is a problem for some people I guess, but I'd imagine it depends on what you are using your phone for..

Hi,
I'm seriously considering going out and buying this phone but I'm really not sure after seeing all the threads with people saying that they go back to their phone and it's switched off and requires a battery pull.
This seems to be a fairly serious problem but I was just wondering if it is happening to everyone who owns the O2x?
Please let me know if you are unaffected by the problem!

So, how do you get on Rusty, you seem like a very experienced XDA member.. how is the O2X treating you?
i am not the best guy to talk to . i just got the phone used yesterday for very cheap. i figured that if i dont like it, i can sell it for the same money or even make a little more and get the SGS2.
but so far. no crashes/reboots.. been more than 24 hours. using custom rom as well.
i got the phone for 300$. the stickers still on it. i figure if i decide to sell it. i wont lose at all..
so far. i am really loving the phone. i love the UI of LG. but its slow. it laggs. i wonder if there is a custom rom with the LG UI but smooth one.
right now i am on modaco. with 3000 quadrant. if i switch to google launcher. phone is smooth. if i switch to LG one, it laggs a little in the home screen. i tried the Tmobile version 2.3 on my optimus. its super smooth. but i cant make phone calls on it lol.
and i had a screen problem with the cayanogen rom. for some reason my screens dims and go bright on its own.
oh yeah. i also have a screen light leak/bleed. but it doesnt bother me much because the only way i can notice it if the room is dark and i have a black wallpaper.
Mine went slow once on stock, once isn't bad though. The froyo Rom does seem rushed in truth, (I have random battery drains from my Dialer which makes no sense) but I'm sure Gingerbread will have everything sorted.

Pretty well to be honest. I use CM7 nighties (I bought the phone specifically because it was going to be supported by them) so I cannot expect a bug free experience at this early stage.
I am enjoying it though, I came from a Nexus One that had bugger all internal storage and a poor digitizer, so proper multi-touch and 1.5GB spare for apps is fantastic.
The IPS screen is great if you can overlook the associated backlight bleed (it's not just the 2X, look at iOS devices as well, same thing), the GPS chip is excellent, I can get locks in place that my N1 couldn't.
The stock ROM is turd, frankly. It's fast, until you install something, then it becomes unusable for a bit until it's finished with the app... quality coding
fine
i have my lg optimus 2x now for over a month, no problems here.
i stil have the stock rom.
first v10a. no problem
later v10b. no problem
I have had 2 O2x now for litle over a month
one of them has had BSOD and restarts randomly - the other had none, atleast for the first month - but these past days this one has now also rebooted a couple of times.
Both are completely stock - not rooted and not using any custom roms.
Only using a different launcher which do help make the BSOD and Reboots less often.

I been over there as well. Most of the problems on the SGS 2 are either software or can be solved with apps. My O2X had so many problems that I could never use the phone and wifi at the same time. Bleeding, constant reboots/freezes crashes even with Custom ROMs. Since Im in afghanistan now I need a phone that will work not just when it feels like it. I will say that when the O2X was working it was a sweet phone. I just dont see the same problems with the SGS2 and Samsung tends to be better in the service side instead of LG leaving us pissing in the wind waiting for a "possible update" that might fix things or not.
guess i´m a lucky guy, too!
i have no crashes/reboots and absolutely NO backlight bleeding

To be honest i wouldn't know. I don't like AOSP roms on the Galaxy S phones. To be honest haven't been on CM7 since nightly was 2.3.3 (been a while). But from my experience Native roms work better for longer periods of times. But I9000 ports work well enough. I also like Audience chip support.

I believe it is, but your kernel might have to change. I do know both CM7 and MIUI have a few kernels to chose from, some might be limited to a specific bootloader. Again I could be wrong.

Hi all,
I've had my tab 8.9 WiFi from the beginning and have never really been a big fan because of the lag it produces. It has been laying on a shelf for a long time, but this week I decided to look on xda and maybe make this thing workable again.
I have tried CM 10.2 / 11 and the nameless ROM, but this thing keeps lagging!
Opening chrome takes 2 to 3 seconds, scrolling is not smooth everywhere. It's just not funny anymore. Even clash of clans or boom beach is lagging so much that it is unplayable.
When installing the ROM I wiped dalvik, cash and do several factory resets. Even changed dalvik to art, but also no luck. Locked the CPU at 1400 MHz, still not working.
How do I get an smooth tab 8.9????

Tough luck. Lagging was the #1 reason I sold my 7310. Watching devices as old as the Galaxy S1 managing HD videos without hiccups, and then watching the tablet struggle even with YouTube HD videos was a revelation that I made an error trusting a nVidia SoC...again. It was a real shame as I loved the screen size. I hope you find either a solution and/or eventually a better device.

I haven't been using the tab that much and the time I did the 'lag' was noticable, but hell... i bought it for a real good price at the time. So I said to myself, you can't have it all
After laying on a shelf for quite some time I wanted to start using it again, now kitkat is out for this device. But being used to a Nexus 5 I started to really get annoyed by the lag. Tried several roms, clearing cash and formatting things, ramped up the cpu to 1400 and now it is bearable but still noticable some times. A game like Boom Beach is still very slow, while the requirements of the game are the same as the tab.
After reading the faq of lagfix I ran a benchmark. These are the results, and I have a feeling I found the problem:
Is it me or is this just way too slow?

It is way too slow. It is kinda sad because that LagFix app solves that issue and bumps up those numbers. I once had similar numbers for my GS3 until I found that app.

Hmm, but LagFix will brick (or may brick) my device? Bricking it will render it completely useless right?
Any thoughts on another solution?

It is very hard to say. Have you checked (searched) the thread for brick reports?
Hmm...have a nandroid backup ready, then flash this and test.
What is that? This (quote grabbed from here):
*snip*...a completely different, lightweight and efficient random number generator called Havege . This sharply reduces cpu consumption and corresponding battery life loss compared to Seeder. It also does a better job at keeping entropy levels high hence your device is more responsive. It doesn't run in a CPU intensive loop either.

Not one brick report, but BrickBug says the chip inside is KNOWN to brick. There is just one mention (see my previous post) of the p7310/p7300.
Edit:
Okay, flashed the zip and installed the app:
Current Random Entropy Value = 4090
Not really sure what that means?

I quoted what it does and its effects. That means the flash worked. How's the lag? Did that help? If not, I'm out of ideas, lol.

Ah, no, not seeing any results... the lag is still there.
I guesse that's it? 'This eMMC chip is *known* to have the brick bug!' means it's probably 100% sure I'll brick my tab when running Lagfix?

Hard to say. If you do venture and use the app and it bricks your tablet, it's not my responsibility. It's a 50/50 situation where you may or may not brick. As I said I ran out of ideas for your tablet lag issue. Best of lucks!

Endpoint error, so trim is not suppported it seems.
Gotta love Samsung....

More like their old devices. At least my GS3 has gone strong, but their latest products...eh. Sorry I can't be of any further help.
I too experience bad lag with jelly bean custom roms. Honestly I gave up and went back to ICS. I am using the "ultra" stock based ROM and it performs pretty well.
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Free mobile app
You won't brick the tab using lagfix. Trim is not supported on our device. Our tab is affected by the brickbug but it's already patched by Samsung with the rollout of official ICS packages. I have done several factory resets using the stock recovery.
IMHO, all post-ICS roms are laggy and buggy. I never had problems with stock ICS. Just put the right combination of tweaks in there and it will be buttery smooth even w/out overclocking.

I totally agree. Our tab does not support trim and brickbug has been fixed. Currently using stock ics ultra by OmarEinea and works perfectly. I disabled animations and use nova launcher with all animations set to lightning fast and I have no problems. Few glitches here and there but its expected.

Quite sad things did not get better after I sold the device. I still remember that ICS ROM by motley and Team Galaxian Soup, it was the best running ROM for my P7310 back when. Also it's quite sad the NAND in these doesn't support trimming as that would have given it a serious boost in smoothness.

Yes, that's the bad part about it, tab has no TRIM support. In any case, I usually get around this limitation by using the stock recovery's format function (factory reset) as it wipes the device clean.

Sorry for bursting your bubble but that's not a replacement for trimming, we're talking about flash memory "defragmentation" and that doesn't go away with any formatting. Otherwise my other devices would still be running like new and the LagFix app would've done nothing to speed things up in the I/O department.
