OTA finally, they are pretty slow.

Are you really going to limit your device with that garbage? Samsung and att have no idea what they are doing.

I think you just answered my concerns....

I did the update through Kies mini when it first came available and then 2 days ago did AIO tool and put on Phoenix ultimate so everything still worked for me. Odin, CWM, download mode....

Not Dev-related and other than there's about 6 threads with this same "news," if you had done some research beforehand you would know about the 3e recovery and rooting issues.

I tried bt feel bad so m back to diff rom

Should I flash my phone or wait for ATT froyo?

So basically I have a couple questions before flashing my phone to Serendipity 4.3
1. If I flash can I ever go back to "real stock"?
2. Since froyo is not out for the captivate. I was wondering if the 2.2 roms were real froyo roms? (Like the Serendipity 4.3)
3. Since froyo is coming out soon, should I just wait for the ATT version of froyo?
4. If I do flash, can I get the ATT version of froyo? (when it comes out)
Thanks for reading

Yes of course, all you'll have to do is an update through kies once you flash back to stock when it comes out.

He's right.
I wouldn't wait for AT&T, it could be a long time before they release anything. Happy flashing!!

So true...
Waiting for AT&T Froyo is like waiting to win the lottery...
As the rest have said, FLASH AWAY! Once you start, you'll see how addictive it really is. Try them all. They all have thier own pro's and con's
I sucessfully flashed my phone! I love my phone now, geezes I dont know why i waited sooooo long.
Thanks every1!
Probably going to flash a custom ROM (phoenix 4.1) for the first time this weekend. I currently have the AT&T 2.2 beta flashed from a one-click, but have never gone through the whole process. I have a couple questions.
1. Is the phoenix install instructions on the first page of the discussion in the development section complete? I was browsing through the discussion and some folks said there were some apps missing, like the music player (not that I used the stock one).
2. there are patches listed and it doesn't really say how to apply them. any guidance? rather than page through 700+ pages, is there a summary on how?
3. is there a lagfix in the Phoenix ROM or is it needed for 2.2.1 ROMs at all?

Each rom is done to the Dev's way so yes some remove some apps that they deem junk. Like all the att crapware that is installed. All the fixes are clockwork flashable that I know of. Most were for older versions of the rom. IF you follow the directions in the FAQ you will be fine, Just make sure then after you flash back to stock that you can get into recovery and DL mode with the 3 button combos just in case something goes wrong
cool thanks. looking forward to it.

[Q] OTA 2.3.3 update

I have been waiting since I heard Google was sending on the gingerbread update to the nexus one's. However I still haven't received mine yet nor update 2.2.2.

FRG38D aint it?
You're not running stock Google ROM. You're most probably running Vodafone modified firmware. In that case, you won't ever get Google OTA, you'll get Vodafone's - which isn't released yet, and who knows when will it be.
To install Gingerbread, you need to revert your phone to stock Google version. Read the Wiki and see, how. Look for "unroot/restore" guide.
You can also just root your phone and install one of the lightly modified stock GB ROMs (like Geo411's) from Development forum.

[Q] Galaxy S I9000 overall help needed

so i bought my galaxy s last november and was super excited for the super phone it looked like, it is my first android phone and started off amazing. a few weeks after i got it i downloaded 'kies' where i was supposed to be able to update to 2.2, but it completely fried the internal sd card, and bricked me phone :0.
luckily i had a full return warranty for one month with Virgin Mobile Canada (i'm from toronto)
since i got a new I9000 i got the 2.2 firmware to work (with great trouble!) and now have no trust for samsung's Kies program.
i have loved some froyo for the past few months and am a huge android fan,
recently i'm hearing of the gingerbread update coming to the galaxy s in canada very soon, now i'm not sure whether to trust kies with this possible bricking update or not.
so that's why i'm here, to ask for information on the easiest, safest way to root my galaxy s so that i can have the gingerbread update, i am a total beginner with rooting or even the idea of it, and would greatly appreciate any help that is given!
another smaller note is i am getting a message on my galaxy lately that says 'database storage is nearly full' with a popup that looks like a red SD card symbol.
what does this mean none of the internal memory is close to full in any way at all!
so to sum it all up should i trust Kies for Gingerbread?
should i give rooting a try? (and how is the easiest/safest way to do it?!)
and what is with this memory almost full message about?
thanks for any replies everyone!
you dont need to root to update outside of kies, its done with other software on your computer. With that being said, i would think if you are a beginner it would be easier/safer to do it through kies.
can you refer me to a way to update my firmware outside of kies?
Read through this - if after a couple of read throughs you understand what to do, go for it... otherwise yeah you might just be better off sticking to Kies.

[Q] 6/15/2012 US AT&T update?

This is what I just got today:
AT&T FREE SOFTWARE UPDATE MSG: AT&T is providing a critical software update that will enhance the performance of your LG Thrill device. Please install this software update by typing this link www.lg.com/us/Thrill4G-Upgrade into your PC and follow the instructions.

I just recieved the same text. Kinda afraid to update till I hear they fixed the gc and text issues, and mine kept randomly opening apps untill my ram was full, and my phone would freeze or just randomly reboot. I finally got tired of missing everything and downgraded back to 2.2
I would like to know the version as well. Did a net search and this thread is the only link I could find.
I received the same text message and followed the instructions. I downloaded the support tool and connected my phone, however the program told me that, "The Cell phone is the latest version already. So you don't need to update".
Anyone else have any luck?
Edit: It worked! Downloading now
I just connected to the LG updating tool. Says mine has the latest version (2.3.5)

How did you downgrade back to 2.2 I would love to get froyo back until the ghost call is fixed.

It's 8 07 am here, and i just called LG, and the operator confirmed that this patch suppose to fix ghost call issue. I'm not sure whether he confirmed it to just calm me down or because it really is the fixing patch. Waiting for more news.
I updated mine around the 17th of June and have not had any problems, the battery life is at least twice that of Froyo. Not too many overall differences and I have not had the ghost call issue, at least not that I know of. I've used it for two weeks now and all is good.
Finally, when i switched the phone they decided to fix it...nice job LG. Gratz to all who stayed loyal to that phone.

There is a thread for the international version but what you need to do is get an apk that changes your "custom" status to "official" then you will be able check for updates. I do believe this thread will get you started. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383484
If you have deleted any apks then it may mess up any updates you take. Or go to sammobile and look for 4.4 firmware for your phone and use Kies to install.
The 9005 can receive it's latest update thru kies, or by going into the settings menu, tap general tab, and scroll down to about device, then system update.
I have only change the md5 file with kies not the rom....I wanted to make the phone rooted not to change the official rom...can I correct this problem with my updates without change the official rom from my phone??? Or is there any app to do that???

I see.
The other reply that I made with the link in it. Follow that link and install what it tells you to install.
After you install it you can make you phone show an "official" status which will allow you to check for updates.
I do not know where the guy in the YouTube video got his firmware.
There is firmware available for the SM-9005 at www.sammobile.com but they seem to be country and carrier specific, I do not know as I do not have that phone.
You may be better off getting instructions in this section of XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3?nocache=1&z=7992070960968063
Good luck and be careful not to brick your phone.

Sir I think you're looking for opinions on what to do and that's not what xda is here for. You're not even in the right sub forum for your device. We can talk forever about the pros and cons of custom roms over official releases. If you're worried one bit about knox counter, then do the official release. If you're comfortable with modifying your device and you can follow directions, I recommend you focus all your attention to this sub forum for your device here! The omegadroid link you attached can be found here on xda! I highly suggest you read through the 3000+ posts that users like you made. That might make up your mind for you.
