I cannot find the topic when I search. But I seem to remember someone saying the internal SD card has to be re-formatted using nvflash. But I am not sure how to do that. And is it possible to make a copy of the entire card on my PC, then after re formatting the card, bringing back the folders, etc? I was with TnT 5.0.2, when it happened, and so I went back to Tnt 4.2.5, and it still did it. So I am at a loss. LauncherPro is the main one that keeps FC ing on me.
The frustrating thing with our gTablet is not knowing each time we boot up, if we will be greeted with love or with nasty surprizes.
There's this thread, but it refers to this issue with the "stock tablet" and doing a factory reset:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896395
The solution requires wiping and repartioning the sd card.
This thread recommends a total wipe and reflashing:
http://goo.gl/NytVa
This one recommends flashing the vanilla TnT restore update to solve abootloop problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9439414&postcount=7
I'm still looking. Many apps are force closing on my g-tab after running Pandora a couple of hours a few days ago. If you find something, please post.
UPDATE:
I repartitioned my sd card as suggested in the first link, then fixed permissions before rebooting. Backed up the sd card to my PC first, of course.
Repartitioning seems to have worked. So far, at least.
Thanks..
... for the leads. I'll give it a try. I do have one more question....
When you make a back up of the device on your PC, can you just copy everything, all the files and folders you can get your hands on on the device? Or is there a more sophisticated way to do it?
Just want to be sure before I take the plunge.
I just copied everything. You can pull route TI backup folder back to the tablet and restore your apps. Any clockwork backups can also be piled back over. You can sync up Titanium to dropbox too.
Yes. Just copy everything. Just as thedoctorisin ordered.

I noticed some file corruptions with LauncherPro and ADWlauncher but Zeam launcher has been problem free so far.

First: I'm not a noob. I don't need noob-like advise. I'm not asking a question here, just frustrated with my Hero right now.
I have Fresh 2.1.2. It's awesome. I recently encountered an error and I don't think it's any inherent fault of the ROM. I think there might be an issue with either the SD card or the way the phone interacts with it. This is not a physical problem, intuition and savvy tell me that it's a software issue.
There are two (likely related) problems:
PROBLEM 1: At some point, shortly after flashing Fresh 2.1.2 (not toast) My phone became unable to "find" mp3's and images on my memory card. I've tried lots of things. A complete reformatting of the SD card, reflashing the rom, reflashing again from stock, different music and gallery apps. Nothing works. Everywhere I go I'm given, and I hear, noobish advise like "eject and remount the card", "put your music in the /sdcard/Music directory" etc. Of course those were the first things I tried before even asking for help. [Reminder: I'm not asking for help in this thread.] Once in a random while the vanilla music app will scan for music and either finds none or hangs forever. Other music apps won't even try. For the record I have tried--
HTC music app
Vanilla (Android 2.1) Music App
Mixzing
TuneWiki
Meridian
DoubleTwist (released this week)
Results are the same across the board. I have also deleted all music and image folders and files. Then adding them back after a few reboots one by one with different music files. I CAN play music by selecting the files from a file browser like ES File Explorer and Astro.
PROBLEM 2: The Sd card no longer mounts. i get no USB debugging icon in the notification bar and it will only charge. I don't get a choice of mount options--nothing. But it does charge. Because of this I can no longer ADB. All apps can still see and use the SD card as storage and A2SD is also working as advertised. I tried backing up only the most important files then putting them back after a clean wipe and repartition of the SD card.
PROBLEM 3: I'm getting a lot of silly advise. I wouldn't be on xda if I needed simple-ass advise.
Hope I'm not offending anyone but I know this type of thing happens to most of us when we need help with a real issue.

I isolated this issue because this also happened to me. I was showing a friend of mine (who also owns a Hero) all the things I have done with A2SD. He liked the boot animation of Fresh 2.1.2, so I put that on his phone (his runs Fresh 1.1). After I searched his phone for the boot animation files, I disconnected his phone from ADB and put mine, only to find out ADB wasn't working. Thought this may have been the switching of the phone, so I killed the adb server and restarted it. No luck. I rebooted the phone...no luck. Checked to see if USB Debugging was on, and it was. I turned the debugging off, then on again to see if maybe it's a setting issue...no such luck on the fix.
Ended up reflashing the rom again to fix it.
Have you tried rebooting your phone?
Sounds like you need to try a different SD card buddy. If that does'nt work then try a different Rom, if that does'nt work then nandroid back to a 1.5 or ruu to 1.5 and start over.
Your problems are there because you allow them to be there. If and when you RUU and repeat the root process once more essentially making your Hero a "Virgin" again you should be able to fix above stated issue and be on your way.
If none of these work, then your answers are not in XDA, but on the phone with sprint's insurance department.
have a great day.

So I was getting unknown reason 18 error when trying to install certain apps from the market.
I've googled and search the forum. The best answer I could get was to wipe and reinstall the ROM, which I did not want to do.
Then I checked the logs and figured out the problem was that all those apps that would fail were trying to install on SD card by default.
The solution: move all the apps back to phone, put your microSD into a card reader and delete .android_secure folder. That's it!
didn't work for me
Worked
That worked for me. For ever I could not update Sky map. When I could not install Angry Birds I went "searching".
Thank you for the fix.
I don't think it'll work for me either.
None of my apps are on my SD. I know this because I can't even do that. When I try to transfer an app to sd it the progress bar just hangs there (doesn't move it just shows the striped pattern)
It worked!
Hey ho, it worked!! Finally the nagging issue is resolved (for me)
I can't find that folder/file! :S
.android_secure is hidden, you need to enable showing hidden files on your file manager. I use ES File Manager and it has such feature.
...or, you can just make sure your app is installed on the phone, then unmount the SD before updating.

Holy crap! It worked for me. I didn't have anything installed on the SD card either.
when your market chache is moved to the SD then move it back to the internal memory and clear the market data...
Worked for me... Thanks a lot...
i've had this error for quite some time - i realized i need to move the app back to phone in order to update it and then move it back to SD card.
Will try this method!
Thanks for posting
thank god this!!!!! work i'm was getting piss off at is unknown 18 **** it was hunting me in my dreams THANKYOU
Please, I have the same problem but I haven't space in my phone to return the SD apps. Is there another way to solve this?
Simple FIX
Just take out the sd card, install whatever is giving you an error, then pop the sd card back in. No fuss no muss!
Nice SIMPLE solution!
Thank you. Didn't involve rooting the phone, installing adb, saying magic mantras etc. etc.
Thanks

Ok, so I figured out a solution that is hopefully "better" and "quicker" for all. Simply connect your phone to your computer (as USB Mass storage), browse to the folder '.android_secure' (make sure you can view hidden files/folders in windows) and delete the file 'smdl2tmp1.asec' (I just renamed it 'smdl2tmp1.asec.delete' just in case it didn't work).
Problem solved! Everything updates just fine now and I didn't have to move any apps back from the SD card to the phone.

Hi, Im trying to exchange my phone and Im having issues with getting the phone bone stock. I used odin 1 click, did a factory data reset, and all my pictures, app folders and various other things are still on the internal SD card. I was using titanium backup, I think thats the cause (not sure though)
I also just flashed JH3, super rooter, and the OC kernel. But as far as I can tell, those are back to factory. I just cant wipe all my data and I dont know if doing it manually will clear up everything.
Suggestions/questions? Thanks!
I even tried the master clear. I can still see files for shootme, sl4a, clockworkmod, update.zip's, and tons of other folders including busybox
Did you try connecting your phone to your computer, mounting the sd card, then open the driver than your sd card is on and manually delete the files that way? You can move the titanium back up to an external sd card and see if that helps.
Go to Titanium Backup support and shoot them a pm, they got back to me within a day when I had questions if you think it's related to that.

I can do that, But what Im worried about is all the application data (including data for apps that require root) wont be deleted. Im not sure exactly what I would have to do to remove that as well. I wanted to leave it there, so that if I did manage to wipe it, Id know for sure everything was gone.
Ill also try sending them a message. Is it on that forum site they link to? Its not very clear as to how to contact them

I pm'd Shazd, I have the pro donated version so I had everything backed up, moved the folder for Titanium Backup and the folder for Titanium license to my exteral card. Then I flashed with Odin to stock and swapped my phone for a new one. Then I put the sd card in the new phone, connected to my computer and moved the files to the internal sd, installed Titanium from the market and when it installed my entire backup was there, settings, apps, and data were all there. I did a restore and everything was just as my old phone. Then I installed Unleash The Beast, the cool battery indicator, thanks to Designgears and the rest is history. When I flashed with Odin, all evidence of root were gone. AT&T didn't even check the phone, all I said was random shutdowns and a crack in the screen and they swapped it.
I have the paid donate version as well. I mean, I have the backup saved to my microsd and on my computer, Its just weird, I mean for some reason its not wiping. Im literally trying everything. I had a backup with clockwork mod and I re-rooted with 1 click root so that I could run that... It may be super rooter, Im starting to think thats more the case. But I really am just stumped
I flashed with Odin3 one click, maybe that's the difference. What did you use exactly?

Both versions lol. 1-click and version 1.0 or whatever by flashing the stock firmware Jh6 from samsung-firmwares.com. I even tried a factory data reset
It may just be files in my internal SD card themselves that arent being deleted... but Im not really sure
It didn't wipe all of my info when I did master clear and then doing the one click wipe. I'm bit sure why it wouldn't either but it did remove most of what I wanted gone.
Sweet life
Huh... Well I did a bunch of clear cache things, wiped my internal sd, and went throught my phone with root explorer and deleted whatever else I found. Wow that was a huge hassle
I think the best thing to do in the future is clear all user data through clockwork, then use odin for master clear then odin start to do it all. It is a hassle that's for sure.
The SD cards (internal and external) are not cleared with a full system wipe. When you delete all data through a system clear, it deletes everything stored internally to apps - in the phone memory where apps are installed.
Although the internal SD card is not really an SD card, the system treats it as an SD card. You can unmount both internal and external SD cards and then format them - that will wipe all data. Follow that with a system reset or Odin 1 click recovery and everything on your phone is factory new.
The phone is behaving as designed.
Hey guys, I need some advice please. Have had a number of odd happenings with my i9000 in the last 24hrs and not sure if some of them are the fault of the phone, or my fault! Apologies up front too for the long post – didn’t know how to put it all more succinctly!
First things first – it’s a Galaxy i9000M Bell vibrant. Came as Éclair 2.1, upgraded recently via Kies to Froyo 2.2, Build UGKC1. Then rooted with SuperOneClick, successfully without drama. Can get into recovery and download modes no problem via 3-button method.
Bit of background info – int SD 16GB, inserted 16GB ext SD. Before any upgrade to the phone had some issues where some photos taken with camera on the phone would show up in gallery as a corrupted/damaged icon. Pretty sure this occurred on default int SD so changed save location to ext SD but same deal now and then. Formatted ext SD – still happened from time to time. Actually replaced ext SD (exchanged at shop with brand new one), but same thing happened again. Figured I’d learn to live with it as only happened now and then.
So, phone rooted last week. Had been doing reading on ROMs/kernels before trying to flash anything. Only root-type things I’d done were to get TiB (and do full backup), Root Explorer, Terminal Emulator and Wireless Tether. Y’day I noticed after taking a few pics that one of the ‘corrupt’ icons that had previously been in place of an older photo, was now in the spot of one of the pics I had just taken (and strangely, the older, apparently corrupted photo was now fine).
I tried to delete a few of the photos but the phone just got stuck trying to delete. Had to force close it with task manager. Same deal if I tried 1 or many photos. Did this a number of times but no joy. Eventually just took ext SD out, put it into PC and deleted them that way, then put back into phone. Now it took AGES to complete the media scan on ext SD – like 5-10 mins! This happened a couple of times if I tried to do anything with the SD eg. save a file to it. So reformatted the SD card (on PC) but same prob when put back in phone.
Figured it might finally be time to try a new kernel in hope it may fix this bug. Had speedmod all ready to go (but hadn't been brave enough yet to try my first flash) so flashed K13E-500Hz via Odin. It worked fine, but “media scanning” problem was still there. Figured I might as well go the whole hog so factory reset the phone via recovery 3e. Did this ok, and “media scanning” was no longer a prob when I put the ext SD card in, just took a couple of seconds – hooray!
Restored apps + system using TiB which also appeared at first to work fine. Put a few pics and ringtones on the ext SD and all seemed fine. Then some app icons disappeared from the Applications pages. They appeared ‘crossed out’ in TiB and when I went to restore them again the phone spazzed out saying (sorry can’t recall exact wording) there was not enough memory and to delete some things to try to fix this. A red SD-like icon appeared in the top bar. I tried rebooting the phone via recovery 3e and it went into a cycle of vibrating, flashing up the turn-on screen/display then shutting off, but vibrating occasionally and lighting the soft touch keys but nothing else. This did this for about 5 mins and in order to try to save battery/stop the whole process I ended up factory resetting yet again via recovery.
Today it works 'ok'. Have not braved putting an ext SD in yet! Got Tib off the market but have also not dared to try to restore any thing yet. Oddly, in TiB it shows “System ROM” as almost fully taken up ie. Full green bar (289MB, only 6.06MB free) – this can’t be right can it?
Internal, DB data and SD card all show as ~99% free.
Deleted Dalvik cache in case that was the RAM problem but it didn’t do anything much (freed up about 6MB only).
So, my questions!
1. is this all because of the ‘corrupt/damaged’ issues before I’d done anything to my phone?
1b) How do I find out what RAM is available and what is using it all up? RAM manager is showing 197MB/339MB used but is this what the 'memory' problem would be? Clearing memory doesn't seem to do anything.
2. I never installed any kind of lagfix (knowingly anyway) – could this be a reason - have seen lots of threads/posts about disabling lagfix before flashing roms or kernels
3. I thought factory reset would wipe everything – but it obviously kept the int SD info ok (I’d copied Tib backup to ext SD and also to dropbox just in case) –should I maybe reformat the int SD and factory reset again?
4. If the issue is the phone itself (with prior corrupt file problem) – would it be worth flashing back to stock kernel and unrooting phone to try to bring back and get fixed/replaced under warranty?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer!!!!!!
Read your hole post its really long. Can't answer to all questions. But did you try to put your phone as massage storage to your pc and mark everything thats on int sd and just erease it. When turn your phone off, put it in download mode and flash a stock rom (with 3 files) from samfirmware.com with repartition enabled? Maybe that works. Good luck! Before i forgot ext 4 is the better filesystem. Rfs getting laggy after a while cause its not the correct filesystem for sgs. Thats why ext4 is the main format on sgs2.

hey thanks for the reply.
i know it was a super-long post, apologies again.
didn't try deleting the ext SD whilst connected via usb. got fed up with the phone not being able to delete & freezing when i tried that way so just took SD out and deleted them with card plugged directly into laptop.
as it happens, since 2nd factory reset, i've been cautious about what i do. no ext SD yet (though might try that tomorrow). didn't do full restore of missing apps and system files as i did the first time. so far have only restored about 6apps via TiB and wifi locations. Phone working ok...for now.
next steps:
1. try taking loads of photos to see if 'corrupt'-style icons occur again with int SD only;
2. maybe try an ext SD again after reformatting it and see how the media scanning goes and how it goes having music/vid/pic files on it etc;
3. gonna look more into the speedmod kernel ie. the tweaks which i think i need to access via recovery mode.
not quite ready to try and flash a custom rom with that little scare!
...but would like to try a custom rom at some point when i feel more educated about all this
Just look at the search function on xda or google. There enough guides about flashing. Know how you feel. The first time i flashing it was very scary for me. Got a heartbeat like a technosong. If you want i can write you a guide for every step. Trust me it is easier as it sounds. Just pm me and i will help you out.

Note: This is a long one, theres a tl;dr at the bottom of the page.
So, yesterday I bought the XDA Premium app from the market. I installed it, used it for a few hours, rebooted my phone, tried to open it back up, "Failed to load activity" error or something along those lines.
So then I looked it up on the market, it wasn't recognizing that it was installed, so I reinstalled it again. Used for a few hours. Rebooted my phone, same issue. This has happened a few times.
So I figured maybe some data was corrupt. So I installed it from the market, uninstalled it, tried to reinstall it again and it said not enough storage space on my phone. I looked and I have 2.77GB free space on internal storage.
So I figured I'd move some apps to the SD card anyways. Started moving all apps from my phone to SD using the App2SD app (Which I think just redirects to the application's page in settings). Everything seemed to work fine.
Rebooted my phone, and some icons on my screens in LauncherPro didn't load. Tried opening several of them.. all of them "failed to load activity". I'm talking about at least a dozen different programs here that had somehow gotten corrupted? Rebooted again, they didn't come back. Reinstalled a few of them and rebooted and one still wouldn't open.
So I'm restoring from a CWM backup I did just before I went to bed last night. Any opinions on what might have gone wrong or what I could do differently? Is 2.77gb reserved space for texts/cache/etc or was the "not enough storage" error incorrect?
tl;dr: xda premium was corrupting/wouldn't install because I *only* had 2.77gb free internal storage? Tried moving things with app2sd and many, but not all, corrupted after a reboot. Rebooted a second time, didn't solve any issues.
Don't use apps2sd with this phone. Go to settings, applications, media area, click on everything with a check mark, move to phone. This will solve your problem.

So, as I mentioned above, I performed a recovery using an image I had created in CWM late last night.
Just for kicks I tried moving a single app to SD to see what happens.. Google+ went from 28mb on internal memory, to 8mb on SD. Restarted, it was corrupted and not even showing up in application list.
So whats the deal with our phones? They can't move anything to SD card without corrupting? Hopefully this is patched as I appear to be hitting the artificial 2.77gb cap on apps?
So.. my experiment with JUST moving Google+ to SD failed more miserably than I originally thought. Not only did G+ corrupt as I mentioned above, but my phone also started freezing again and VNC Viewer also corrupted itself.
So I had to perform a second recovery on my phone this morning. Ugh. Having way too many issues with this phone considering I only bought it maybe 2 weeks ago.
One more update.. hope someone can help me with this.
So I performed a recovery with CWM. Since then I have not done ANY App2SD attempts or anything. This is a recovery from before I ever did any of that.
Now, whenever I uninstall any app, when I reboot my phone several apps will corrupt. These are apps that I had used App2SD on before I had done the recovery. Its like, when I uninstall an app it finds some data from prior to the recovery and that corrupts the app...
Any way to fix this? I looked at my SD card and the only data on there is Titanium Backup data, CWM backup data, and a few zip files that I had put on there. I told ES File Manager to show hidden files and there is nothing on my SD that I see that could be making Android corrupt these files...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I'm starting to thing I'm going to have to do a fastboot recovery to completely stock and start over again..
If you restored a recovery, wasn't that recovery with apps2sd as well? Does that make sense?

Here, I'll lay it out a bit more clearly:
1) Midnight last night I performed a backup with CWM. Everything was working fine, I hadn't done any changes or App2SD things yet.
2) Woke up at 10AM today and this was when all of the issues covered in this thread started. After 10AM today was when I first attempted to use App2SD Pro to move apps around.
3) I recovered using the recovery from part 1 of this message
4) I'm still having issues with programs corrupting even though I'm using an image from Midnight yesterday.
How can I completely wipe my phone then restore with Fastboot? Wipe SD, internal, everything.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
So it appears I fixed my problem.. even though I have run two complete restores using a backup from prior to my issues, some apps were still set to go on my SD card. So I guess a CWM backup doesn't store all file system data.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
Also some apps try to load on SD card watch out amazon apps. I've put 300plus sized various apps on my phone and didn't crack 2gb. And really 200apps or more your not going to have time for them.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
Yea, the XDA Developers app tries to load on the SD card by default. That was the entire root problem that caused all the above posts...
Hopefully Motorola fixes this SD card issue in the next patch.
