[Q] Is my phone bricked?? :( - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need help..
I have a rooted SGS with the lagfix. I uninstalled the lagfix then I updated to the latest firmware via Kies.
Now my SGS will not boot past the logo screen. The menu and back buttons are lit and all vibrates every 60 secs or so.
I have tried removing the battery for 30 secs but that didn't work.
Please help me. What do I need to do to get it started?

it is not bricked so dont panic. I assume you have the 3 button combo for recovery and download mode ??
If so firstly try to do a factory reset in recovery, if that dont fix the problem you will have to flash a new ROM via 'Odin'
Try to get a firmware with all 3 files. they can be found on here XDA under the general section. or you can go to www.samfirmware.com Both contain all the files / programs you need plus step by step instructions.
If this is your first time Please Please read carefully.

I have tried the three buton thing but that doesn't help.
I was afraid I would have to use Odin.

dont be afraid its nothing to worry about, its as easy as 1, 2, 3,
There are gazzillions of tutorials out there, just take your time

The problem is I can't enter download mode. Don't I need this to be able Odin to start?
I have installed Odin and the required files etc. (seems pretty straightforward as you said).

most likely kies upgraded ur bootloader.. this happened to me once, i fixed it using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201

[Q] Tried to downgrade to recovery2e, now stuck at galaxy s logo

Dear All,
Have tried searching for a solution to my problem, was unable to find one - apologies if this has already been answered somewhere.
My Galaxy S has never been able to use the 3 button recovery/download, so when I wanted to install a custom ROM, thought it would be a good idea to fix that
First I went to RazvanG's thread here , and realised I needed to sort some other issues first, namely to root and downgrade my recovery file from 3e to 2e.
These are the steps i followed:
1. Rooted using z4Root
2. Installed Busybox
3. Followed steps in reschi85's thread here
4. Rebooted
All seemed fine when I rebooted, phone started fine.
However, when I then went to the next step of RazvanG's, namely to boot into recovery, the phone has hung on the Galaxy S logo screen, and will not budge.
Have tried using adb to reboot into download/recovery mode, no change. cannot get the phone to start now, and since I hadn't managed to get the fix applied, my 3 button fix will not work.
Please help!
Thanks in advance,
Sun
Petr0v has an excellent topic on getting 3 button recovery working. I used the odin method and it takes 5 minutes in all. You actally have to get download mode working first before anything as its very important. Once done you could have flashed cf root using odin and would have had 2e.
If taking out the battery for a few minutes doesn't work your only option will be to force it into download mode using the jig then flashing a fresh firmware with odin. There are topics on here on making your own homemade jig. I've also seen them selling on ebay here in Australia for $20usd. Good luck.
Edit: TheBeano has a topic on how to make you own jig.

[Q] Noob Questions

Hey guys. Recently I tried upgrading my phone (Captivate i897) from the Paragon 6 (JS32.2.1) to the new Continuum v5.4.1. I was having trouble reseting to stock from Paragon for some reason. Every time I tried reseting, it would stop at a random spot and the entire screen would turn a random color. I eventually got it to reset to stock after many attempts and crossing my fingers that it would finish without erroring out. Following the guide provided on the Continuum thread, I read all about the bootloaders and how badly they can brick your phone. I ventured carefully, trying to read and reread every bit of info I could on how to not fail at loading the bootloaders. I did what the guide said and installed the JBV bootloaders. My phone reset and I got it back in download mode. Then I saw somewhere on the thread that I had to use the original Odin (the one with the Master Clear option) for some reason and so I tried it. While Odin was doing it's thing it froze (like normal) and turned the entire screen a random color. I didn't panic because that had happened many many times before and I tried to get it to boot. And found no luck. So I decided to break out my soldering iron and I made a jig! The jig didn't work at all . I then did further research and decided I must have messed with the bootloaders and there was no possible way to recover my device. I went to the store today and had my phone replaced because of some social engineering on my part and it was still under warranty. I brought my phone home and tried the jig and it worked like a champ. I think my problem is that I was confused on what the exact, step by step, 1 2 3 process is for upgrading from 2.1 to 2.3. Would anyone be willing to help me out and explain in detail what exactly I have to do to upgrade my phone to Continuum? Thanks in advance.
you have a ****ty usb connection. i would not even attempt odin if it freezes eveytime, your gonna end up with another brick.
is the usb cable for sure good? is it plugged into the back of the pc have you been using the same port, cause you should try a different one.
try a package without any bootloaders first, there is a link to a stock package without any in the continuum op, once you have a solid connection then try bootloaders. dont try anything with bootloaders until you have established a reliable base connection.
I am plugging it into the front of my box, and I have alternated the front two ports to see if there is any sort of change and found none. I'm just about to try the back ports to see if there is any change. In the Continuum thread, he talks about computers randomly messing with the usb connection. What is the cause of that and do you think that might be my problem?
Edit: That seemed to be the problem. I manged to reset it with Odin and it worked perfectly, followed by rooting it with the AIO Captivate Toolbox! However, I still am uneasy and needing guidance on the step by step process of upgrading.
Odin sometimes just decides to extend it's arm and give you the finger. But if it happens everytime it's an issue with either, your pc, your usb cable, usb port on the phone.
Follow the guides in the op, or...check out mosaic (not biased) thee instructions there are easy to follow, and there is a link to a download package that has pictures included to help along the way.
I'm reading the guides here and I may just be retarded, but I'm having trouble figuring out which Odin people are using. When they say "THIS IS THE ODIN YOU WILL WANT TO USE TO RETURN TO STOCK!!!! USE THIS ONE AND NOT THE 3 BUTTON ODIN. IF YOU NEED THE THREE BUTTON FIX JUST USE THE 1CLICK ODIN FIRST THEN USE THE 3 BUTTON FIX ODIN", what do they mean? (btw, the quote is a link to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989)
Odin one click, the one with just a start button and master clear button, contain BOTH bootloaders for 2.1/2.2 the .tar that has the three button fix only has the second bootloader, if you use that from gingerbread you will brick your phone.
So ... If you want to go back to stock USE ODIN ONE CLICK, don't even worry about what the other one is, as long as you use odin one click you are fine.

Ohhhhhhh ok. So I did the Odin 1 Click and it worked perfectly. Now what do I do about the 3 button issue?
Do you not have the combo?
All 3 buttons held till screen comes off, release power for recovery
Both volume buttons, plug in usb for download.
Alright, I'm confused once again. So I flashed the Odin 1 Click, but yet I still have the combo... Is the combo separate from the bootloader?
No, it's in the secondary bootloader. Sometimes, and only sometimes, odin one click's bootloader will not have the combo in certain build phones. It's just weird idk ... So the 3 button fix package was released with only a secondary bootloader that never loses the combo. But it doesn't have the primary cause when it was made it wasn't needed because the primary never got overwritten. But now that gingerbread is out both bootloaders have to be changed so using the 3 button fix package will mix a 2.2 and a 2.3 bootloader and brick the phone.
Btw the new gingerbread bootloaders have a new combo once you flash them it'll be
Vol up+ power = recovery
Vol down + power = download
Ok, so I used Odin 1 Click to go to stock, but I still have the combo. Does that mean I still have the secondary bootloader? And If so, what do I do? Also, thanks for the help so far.
Lolol you will always have a bootloader, or the phone wouldn't boot.
Since the combo still works for you, you are on step 1 of the instructions!! Have fun!
Read read read read read, before touching your phone.
I'm well aware of what bootloaders are and the importance of them. My question is that if I have the combo, in accordance with what you said, I have the 2.2 boot loader. Anyways, thanks for the info and clearing up the confusion!

[Q] Blind guide through Clockwork Recovery

Hello guys,
I think my SGS is screwed, but maybe with a factory reset I can get it atleast to work...
Atm the phone is in a bootloop after trying to update my light'ning rom. It starts up with the normal "Galaxy S GT-1000" and below "Samsung" screen, after which I only see a messy pixelated screen instead of the usual animation. Shortly after it goes back to the previous screen. This repeats itselfs endlessly.
The phone does go into download mode, using the 3 buuton combo, but my pc does not recognize it. I tried everything, reinstalling drivers, kies, etc, on several pc's/laptops. After some messing around witn battery in and out I do get it into recovery mode, but it is onreadable. The first galaxy S screen is still visable and the recovery menu is in a different resolution then normal above that, making it impossible to read and go through the menu.
I was hoping anyone could give me some step by step guideness through it, so I can try if a factory reset does anything.
dont know if it will help but boot into recovery
volume down button 2 times
power button once
volume up button 5 times
power button once
that will do a factory reset and see if it fixes ya

what do you mean by that ?
The OP has got an i9000
Galaxy S GT-1000
But its probably his tipping or smel checker .

If you got USB-debugging enabled, you can try to force it to recovery using adb:
Code:
adb reboot recovery
If not you will have to reflash your ROM using odin (a ton of guides for that)
Odin will only work if I get the USB bug fixed, wich I can't. Specially since I cant even start up android. No debugging there...
I can get into download mode, so that leaves me with some hope the phone is still fixable...
Ayone else tips?

Thanx, it seemed to do the reset (there did happen things that looked like one, haha) but sadly no succes so far....
all I can do now is try to get to my download folder blind and reinstall the rom that is in the download folder... I have no clue wich nr folder the download folder is, but that is just a matter of endless trying ...
so have you managed to get the phone recognised by the PC ?
if not, try heimdall, i hear that works for issues like yours - something about installing a custom driver for the USB ??? i dont know ive never had to use it luckily
SGS usb drivers
For the drivers you could try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
there is also a link in samfirmware.com
http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-programandroid.htm
with drivers.
I had a similar problem yesterday ( Broken boot, no recovery mode, only download mode with no USB recognition,) but after trying to reinstall some drivers it worked and now my phone is back online thanks to odin and samfirmware.

[Q] Recovering a 1900 from a Bricked state?

So this morning I decided to take the plunge and attempt to root my phone.
I had a 19000 running gingerbread(2.3.3) and I found the following website to follow:
Code:
android.dkszone.net/root-samsung-galaxy-s-android-2.3.3-gingerbread-i9000-xxjvk-rom
After downloading odin, and following precisely the first steps to work with the first tar file, Odin returned that the operation had failed, and now my phone is only showing the phone ! pc image.
Is there any way to go back, and recover my phone or is it well and truely gone?
I have been unable to reboot it into recovery mode, if that helps..
Download-Mode is possible?
Look here:

enter download mode and reflash rom. it looks like a softbrick.
Your going to have to forgive my noobishness(nah thats never going to be a word )
But Spyder when you sat reflash the rom, do you mean to follow the steps from the original link again?
Or do you mean something else?
sorry no, the link you provided was for a rooting through kernel flash. what you need is to flash a rom for your phone to function (recover from brick). this would delete all data in your phone.
you can use this tutorial http://www.hdtechvideo.com/stock-roms/how-to-flash-xxjvu-in-galaxy-i9000/
To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .
Just downloading the required files now...
Hopefully this works.. cant afford a new phone at the moment..
Don't worry. It is impossible to brick an sgs. See unbrickable mod for details.
You can now sleep safely.

[Q] Cannot Access Boot Recovery

Last night I was trying to update my Samsung Galaxy ACE S5830i to Jellybean. And I messed up. I followed the instructions from a forum, which asked me to root the phone by pressing Power+Volume UP+Home Key and then install the Jellybean from the memory card.
I did all that was told step by step I believe. But maybe the Jellybean software was corrupted or I messed up with some step, I don't know. And now the situation is that, there is no Android OS installed on the phone, the phone is stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i Logo, doesn't move further. I cannot even enter in the recovery mode by pressing Power+Volume UP+Home Keys combination. Tried everything from removing battery to SD Card, even waited for hours after pressing the combination for recovery mode. Nothing works
Now I don't know what to do I am not a technical person when it comes to playing with Android.
Any help with step by step explanation in simple words in this regards would be a relief.

ROOTING
For rooting follow this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551156)
Good luck and let us know if you encounter any problems.
If you tried to upgrade to Jellybean as in upgrade your version of Android then there is no known way of doing this on an S5830i and you may have installed an update that wasn't intended for your device, therefore bricking it in the process. A link to the instructions that you followed might help.
Whatever the case, you need to try and get your phone into download mode to reflash the original firmware. Press VolumeUp + VolumeDown + Power whilst the phone is switched off. Then press VolumeUp at the warning screen. Does that work? If it does you might be in luck, follow the unbrick tutorial here.
Bro we don't have ics how come jelly bean...u try to install stock rom through download mode using Odin. And later u can install any custom roms u want.
