Nice work! I don't see why people were trying to flame the idea. Its one less thing new users have to figure out. It'll keep a lit of newbie question threads from starting too.

Dude, I posted a solution at post #23, which is the same thing that shabby posted at post #26 in the bounty thread.
I am not discounting shabby as I am sure he knew how to do exactly what he did, but next time you offer something, you should pony up to the first solution that does what you requested.
Compare my batch file to his if you don't have any faith. Just because I made sure you were serious, and you took offense, doesn't mean you shouldn't do what is right.
And by the way, I apologized for any hurt feelings over my, "Are you serious" comment.
EDIT - I was missing a library, fair enough. Statement Retracted.

i understand your concern about this issue, but i think it was more of a mine had everything included in it from the get go, whereas your option (at the time) still required drivers to be searched and used.
also
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

and as a side note the su zip wouldnt have pushed as when you flashed cwm it unmounts the sdcard, have to go in and manually mount it.
again i am sorry but i was the first one to have a fully working version.. if you have any issue with this please either post in the other thread, or take this to a pm

Shabby, I returned to stock to try this out and after the unlock when it boots into recovery, it's getting hung up at the android logo and an exclamation point. What would cause that?
sounds like there was an issue flashing cwm, whats mind pastebin'in me the output of the terminal?
just saying could not load, the easy fix was just putting your cwm file in sdk/tools
ah yes, this zip is assuming you dont have path set/sdk installed ill look into making a newer version thats a bit more advanced tomorrow. prolly whip up a linux friendly version as well. can try mac but no guarantees
on a side note might wanna update your sdk as the newer ones use "platform-tools" for adb/fastboot
As the title says - Adding libs to roms, can someone point me in the right direction? I have been a member of this forum for a while, just not a posting member, I now feel it is my time to add something back to the community, is it as simple as adding it to the rom whilst flashed to an X8? I want to make the whole sense rom work, BUT I can't access the system files without having the rom installed which is pretty gay.. I need some way of accessing it in the .img format which then I can flash to my phone to test... mshhh... plus I'm not quite sure which libs will work (ofcourse when I find out I will seek permissions before uploading the rom...)
To open .img you could use Winimage or Poweriso or something similar.

Already tried, same problem... I found an unyaffs2 program compiled for windows which allowed me to extract the image I just need to mkyaffs2 it back to img then maybe I can get it working BUT I need to be in Linux and I can't be bothered making a VM at the moment...
Maybe someone can help me with this? We could work together to make a fully working sense rom... come on people.. someone who wants this must have a bit of knowledge on the subject...

This site http://www.downloads.bombaymobiles.in/index.php?dir=Samsung%20Flash%20files/I897/ has alot of files for diffirent phones, i'm directing you to the i897 files and JE5 is in there if you want an idea what its like, But again looking for JE4, i've read that it's less buggy and I just really want to use it and mess around with it.

Dreamw rom has, just as most custpm roms, a kernel that automaticaly executes all scripts placed in /system/etc/init.d. No need to manually run them...
Btw, next time just ask this in the q&a section.

that's true, but if the script gives an error while running it, it also won't work on boot
Need more info what the script is supposed to do, especially if it's a custom script...

How hard is it?
I would really like to become an Android Developer. Have a some noob questions...
I cut my android teeth on a Samsung Infuse <-Learned to root & flash get hooked on seeing what amazing things my little smartphone could do.
I most recently upgraded my phone to the LG Optimus G.
1st Question maybe a no brainer ... Should I learn to develop for my now unused Infuse or jump straight to the LGOG? I think I know the answer duh... why mess up my good working phone.
I have some knowledge of Linux witch I think will help. Should I learn to develop on a Windows computer or Linux? I am leaning toward the Linux.
Another reason to start with the Samsung is I think source is available and many other ROMs already exist so getting help from these devs may be easier and the only source available from the LG is ICS and everyone seems to want JB.
Looking forward to learning more and getting started.
swub1
1.I'd start with the infuse if you mess something up you still have your new phone
2.If your just theming and messing with already built ROMs and stuff windows is perfered if you want to build from source you will need a 64bit Linux system Ubuntu is nice and can be installed along side windows so that's nice
There is a lot of info in the xda community and learning to build can be fun and agrovating at the same time good luck with it

How do I include a kernel into the zip of a rom so that when I flash the rom the kernel also gets flashed at the same time.

if you open the .zip file for your rom it should have a zimage file that is the kernel so if you want to swap just download a flashable zip of the kernel you want open it and there should be zimage, now put that zimage with the rom you want. you can do this with 7zip just double click to open dont extract the rom zip you can extract the kernel from the the kernel .zip and drag the zimage for th ekernel you want to the opened rom.zip then close and flash

This is why people brick their devices when people that has no idea what their talking about give advice! First of all the kernel in a ROM comes as a boot.img and second you can't just switch out the zimage when their is more than the zimage for it to probably work. You need the modules as well... I would recommend you not give advice unless u either know 100% of what your talking about or don't give advice in these specific forums where noobs lurk and don't know good advice from bad....
Now to answer your question...
You have 2 options if your kernel comes as a boot.img just replace it with the one from the ROM and replace lib/modules from the kernel to the rom, and flash away...
The second option is if your kernel comes in a zimage and the ROM comes as a boot.img then you will have to unpack the boot.img from the rom and then replace the zimage and pack the boot.img but to do that you will need to be in Linux or VirtualBox... This can't be done thru windows, but recently there have been programs that can unpack the boot.img thru windows but I always use Linux.
So post how your kernel comes in either a boot.img or zimage and how the room has its kernel we can help u more after that.
