anyone else here experiencing problems with thier data services for non-tmobile g1 plans? if so could this be related to googles merge with MS exchange? (read somewhere online)
anyways heres my story. i recently bought a g1 about a week ago. before i started flashing rooting ect i was able to use my tmo sim with a prepaid plan and have full data access and phone/mssg access. with apn hiptop.t-mobile.com
since then, i was able to have full phone/data access after..
rooting via telnet method.
flashing mod roms...
uprading radio latest
upgrading spl latest...
flashing various hero roms...
adding a2d,recoveries,formating/upgrading sd
all was functional using the "danger" apn..and always a 3g/hspa connection. it was great.
just recently my phone data stoped working. i can get online and sync with wifi but not with gprs. my radio icons show E or H and the up-arrow blinks but the d-arrow hardly every blinks. i believe this started happening after i flashed a hero rom... i think it was super hero v2 or 3 not sure... i flashed so many roms trying to fix this i cant remember.
anyways i tried flashing rc29 and fresh sd card but still cant access data thourgh gprs. calls and mssg work but not data. even after rooting and installing official tm crc.
oh and for the record before i had g1 i had wm wizard (gone now) which i had no problems connecting to apn hitptop.t-mobile.com.
so any input for you guys would be great and much appereciated..
oh yeah right now i have adp crc rooted rom with latest radio and spl.
phone is fully operational except for the data problem.

Well it looks like the sum of all my fears has happend. My tmobile must have became aware that I'm not using their g1 data plan and disconnected my data services. Looks like I'm gona be switching over to the nations fastest 3g network. I wouldn't of had this problem with windows mobile. ,,, I miss my wizard. Lol. Anyways does anyone think that ssl tunneling would work to bypass this?
Well it was good while it lasted...

This is a known issue. T-Mobile has cut out everyone that doesn't have the android/g1 data plan. Everybody that was using web2go got cut off to.

Cyanogen Wi-Fi Issue

My phone can't connect to my router even though everything is set up correctly and the SSID is on visible. It always says "Not in range. Remembered." ~~
However it can detect my neighbours router ?_? I had this problem on both versions experimental and stable but i can connect normally with any other rom. I really dont want to switch to another rom =/
Here some more infos:
Haykuros "DaNgEr" SPL
Cyanogen recovery 1.4
Cyanogen Rom 4.1.11.1

Running the same rom as you, but not the same spl. Hard spl is installed on mine. No issues what so ever with WiFi. I've never had WiFi issues with Cyanogen's, even with 4.0.4.
Yours is the exception I'd guess, not the rule.
I don't believe the ROM is the source of your problem.

As i said it detects Wi-Fi on any other rom also on my original nand backup. ~~
The 3G connection seems weeker too and i constantly get "connection lost please retry" msgs.

FWIW, when I run the same ROM and same SPL as you I don't have any WIFI problems (dlink router). I would try re-installing everything.

Re-Installed everything a couple of times but it still wont work ~~ Guess i have to wait for the next barebone stable lol.

Try MENU... SETTINGS...WIRELESS CONTROLS.......WI-FI SETTINGS....MENU....ADVANCED.....REGULATORY DOMAIN....
Try each setting to see if this helps. I had similar trouble and set to 14 it worked fine.

I had the exact same issue and just tried extending the regulatory domains...wouldn't have thought it would have made a difference or have any effect but it worked and found my router instantly. No idea why my router wasn't showing up in the first place but there ya go!

My wifi connects just fine, but the web only seems to work for Opera Mini, Facebook etc... but it won't work with Dolphin Browser, or downloads in the market place. The default browser works occasionally.
I can browse the marketplace, but when trying to download, it just says "Downloading..." then "Download Paused".
Everything worked on the stock ROM, and everything works fine when I'm using Cellular data. Any thoughts?

Wifi problems

I bought a second-hand G1(no data plan) since I wanted to play with my phone. It ran 1.6 DMD64 stock with the newest radio; and it had WiFi problems.I did some research before purchasing and knew it could be flashed; so I tried flashing it to a modern ROM to see if that would solve the problems. After figuring out it was an American phone(I live in Holland) I managed to root it and flash CM6RC2. I now sometimes have a lot of reception; sometimes not. I tried installing WiFiReEnabler and WifiFixer; WifiFixer made connections overall a bit more stable; but half of the time I still don't have WiFi. I also tried to use my laptop's WiFi for my phone via USB; followed the instructions but failed. My phone managed to get semi-bricked 3 times in that period(stuck at G1 screen), and I tried flashing another ROM too; so I flashed CM 4 times. I'm using a Belkin N1 wireless router; switched channels, security and looked at my keyphrase.
The problems I have with WiFi:
- Not finding my router even though being quite close to it; happened only with 2 of the 5 times I flashed
- Finding my router but not connecting; happened 3 of the 5 times I flashed
- Saying that it's connected but not allowing me to browse; happened all times but WifiFixer occassionally fixes this
I'm still running CM6RC2 with Amon Ra recovery 1.7 on an American phone; my router is a Belkin N1 with firmware version 3.01.04 and hardware F5D8631-4 v3 with WPA-TKIP, broadcast SSID on, channel 4.
Is there a way that allows me to get stable internet on my phone without a data plan?

This could be either a hardware or software issue, not quite sure. Your options are listed below
1. Root and flash to a different more updated rom
2. Flash the newest radio(not sure if it effects wifi signal strength, forgot)
3. Open up the G1 and see if any connectors are loose.
Option 3 is probably out of the question, option 1 and 2 can be done by looknig into the rom bible(sticky) in the G1 dev thread, this will give you threads with new roms, how to install them etc, as well as flashing the new radio(if you have not yet done that)

I already flashed the newest radio, since I tried to install CM6 and in that guide I was instructed to flash the newest radio. I also obviously have installed CM6RC2 which is the newest version of CM.
I did read somewhere that more people had WiFi issues with CM6RC2 or deratives; I'll try running an older version of CM.
Edit: Doesn't work; at least I can't browse when I'm connected. Doing a nandroid restore right now; I'm intending to use Froyo.
In the case that doesn't work, how hard and dangerous would it be to open up my casing and look for those wires? It's second-hand, so warranty would likely not be a problem.

Is it possible that your router is using a different band?
I don't know about Holland, but sometimes different countries allow different wireless bands.
Try changing the channel on your router to something like channel 7 or 11, something varied from the norm.

Well. I found a solution. Connecting my old sitecom wl-167 which has no wireless N support seems to give me no problems.
(Holland has different channels then America, but my G1 was surprisingly already configured for Europe)

P.S. My XDA does seem to have some problems. "No route to host" when trying to post.
Edit: It appears it isn't 100% fixed; WiFi-fixer still solves it right now but it might not be the solution.
Edit 2: Well, WiFi-Fixer is able to fix my problems all of the time for now; but ocasionally I have WiFi for 10 seconds then 10 seconds no WiFi, et cetera.

hey, i am new to the whole android system. i have had my captivate for about a week. its running on 2.2 and its rooted. i updated to 2.2 as soon as i got it and the wifi worked perfectly. only problems that i herd of the wifi messing up was immediately after the 2.2 update but mine worked fine for about a week. the error that i get is disabled secured with wpa wpa2 psk. don't understand it, nothing changed just stopped working, any help would be useful thanks.

Try rebooting your router.

ive done all that. i just went to a few friends houses and it connects fine to all of their wifi one being the same ISP. so something happened to my router or accidentally changed a few settings. other than that i have no clue. the error i used to get is disabled secured with wpa wpa2 psk, and now after messing with a few things it just says disabled.

Used to be a common issue in 2.2 based ROMs, atleast in the ones I tried. Switch to a 2.2.1 based ROM.

When mine does that I usually make the phone forget your router, disable wifi, unplug router, plug it back in and then turn wifi on and find your router. Works for me hope it works for you.

I figured out how get it working. I download fxr wifi fix and rescue from the market and it actually fixed it lol. Basically the process put you in air plane mode, and removed all the previous remembered wifi connections. It has to do something else because I tried that a million times manually but I'm not complaining. Worked like a charm
I know some people use roms. But I haven't really looked to much into them yet. Any recommendations? I've seen a few on YouTube but some major features were not working. And where do I d/l them?

What's up guys, first of all I've looked up for that problem on the board and none of the topics are helpful.
Well, I've got SGS with CM9 nigtly 2012-05-06 with the IcyGlitch kernel. I've checked different modems and kernels and nothing. The problem is connected with the wifi. However it is only about my router. Somehow my phone and router don't like each other. The wifi speed is really slow, to download something is a miracle, facebook sometimes even doesn't want to log in. The problem started after I installed cm9. I've tried many builds of CM9 and none of them helped. I don't wanna wipe the phone and install another rom, I just want to fix it, if everybody can work without any problems, I also can. My router is D-Link 524. I've tried other cell phones and they work fine with the wifi. Also I've tried other wifi connection like at my university and it works cool.
What can you advise me to do ?
