[Q] should nook be unrooted before runiing nookie froy from sd? - Nook Color General

simple should my nook be stock before running nookie froy0 from sd card? or will i be fine if i put the nookie froyo sd card in and just reboot?

It shouldn't make any difference to the bootable sd as to what's in the internal memory.

It doesn't matter whether NC is rooted or not. Burn nookie froyo image on SDcard then insert while NC is off then power on. It will boot from the sd card as long as it is in. Remove it from NC to boot on stock rom.

awesome thank you. seemed like a dumb question but i am super paranoid about my electronics.
Any suggested sites for the correct steps for burning img for us mac users?

[Q] Nook Color internal memory access thru Nookie Froyo

Hi All,
I am thinking about buying the nook color after sifting thru all the wonderful work done on nook by all devs.
I have a question. If i use Nookie Froyo out of sd card, i.e. do not install it on the nook emmc, will I be able to access Nooks internal 8 gb memory? I am thinking about using the internal memory for movies and stuff. Will I be able to play them, if i boot into nook thru sd card?
The easiest way to be able to access the internal /media partition would be to use the Customized Nookie Froyo from brianf21. However, I just noticed the Nookie Froyo brianf21's is based off (cicada's Nookie Froyo) was just updated to 0.6.8. So you probably want to wait for brianf21 to update his customized one.
Thanks.....Much Appreciated
Hey guys first post from a an android noob here!
I just burned an sd with 0.6.7 and am wondering how to use the internal memory as well. I am mainly wondering how to get downloaded books to show on the kindle/nook apps.
Thanks!

CM7 Nook SD Card image?

Does anyone know if there is a SD Card runnable image of CM7 for the Nook? I don't want to root my Nook instead I am running the SD Card image OS at boot. I am currently running Honeycomb and while I like it I wanted to try CM7 before I get settled on a base ROM. that said does anyone know if one is available or how I could go about setting one up on my SD card?
Thanks,
Adan
There was talk of one in this thread:

Guess it didn't work or mckooter didn't get to it yet.

Why is the Nook Color so different?

I just ordered a Nook Color from eBay with the $50 off... happy yes I am!
I've been with Android since the G1, now I have a droid... how come flashing ROMS and SD cards are so different? You have to put it internally on the Nook instead of on the SD card? Flashing off SD card causes problems? CWR doesn't work? Can anyone explain? It seems much tougher than my droid, just putting the file on my sd card then going to recovery and hitting update, or same with the gTab or Adam.
Unlike most phones, flashing a majority of ROMs (not all) for the NC wipes the Recovery -- ie, wipes it off the device.
So you create a Recovery SD card (the NC auto-boots into it) and then flash ROMs just like you would for a phone. Then take out the SD card when done with Recovery.
It wipes only the recovery correct? Not anything on the sd card? Ill search up how to make partition for recovery sd. Thanks.

Yeah, it'll wipe everything on the NC only, and not touch the SD card.
Here's the thread for creating a 3.0.0.6 Recovery SD Card (needed for CM7 Gingerbread ROM):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959240
See post #19 for detailed instructions.
For FroYo I believe you need to use 3.0.0.5, found elsewhere.
just ordered my NC off ebay too. i'm reading up all i can as fast as i can. coming from an evo where wiping is too easy, this is going to be a bit more complicated, i can't wait!!!
More complicated, maybe, but also much safer since you basically cannot brick an NC... No matter how badly you screw up the internal flash, you can always boot from SD to fix things.
I bought 3 Nook Colors yesterday and rooted every one of them and installed HoneyComb on one, all in less that 2 hours start to finish including downloading images and making the SD card. I made one SD card with CWR with images for the stock ROM, CyanogenMod 7 and HC eMMC v4. It all works flawlessly. This thing really is simple to manipulate. I had more trouble making a gold card and rooting my HTC Inspire!
Well I want to chime in on this too now because I'm new to this as well. What are the advantages/disadvantages of nookie froyo on the sd card vs flashing a rom to the internal?

well sd cards are slow and internal memory(eemc) is fast
if you install froyo/cm7/HC on your eemc it will run much faster vs running from sd card, running from sd card is good though if you want to try out a rom without losing your current setup

[Q] Booting Nookie Froyo from sd card

alright so i rooted out my nook color and now i would like to get NOOKIE FROYO 2.2 on my device. I have read everything but there is one question that i have that no one seems to put out there. And yes i am new to rooting etc. but rooting was damn easy and looks like loading nookie froyo to sd card is just as easy.
Question (probably dumb) is running the bootable sd card on my already rooted nooko color alright?
2) and it is really as simple as writing the nookie froyo image to the sd card plugging it into the nook and rebooting that simple?

1, as far as I know running roms off sd card is very safe, rooted or not rooted.
2, Yes... burn nookie froyo on sd card then turn on NC.
Yes, running from the SD card is safe.
I second what Pinoy8125 wrote.
1. Running off the SD card is safe and easy even with your interal memory being rooted. Look at it this way, you can try different images just by swapping different sd cards. Try the 6.8, 6.7, HC, etc.
2. Yep, just burn the image onto the SD card. Expand the 4th partition if the image size and the card size differ. This will allow you to recover the lost space. Turn on the Nook and see what you go.
I am getting very nice performance running Froyo 6.8 off of the SD card. I ran into micro sdhc compatibility issues which caused booting as well as performance issues. I have another thread out there on this issues. Awaiting people's feedback on this.

Now... I need help...how to go about expanding the 4th partition to recover lost space? I don't have a single idea on how to do this. Please explain it in details

Best rom to boot from SD keeping emmc stock?

I have a nook myself and I run phiremod from emmc, but I have a friend who wants to keep his nook completely stock, but still use android roms via the sd card.
What would I have to do to make it so he could insert the SD card boot the nook and it boots to a froyo or eclair rom, and when he takes the card out and boots the nook it goes back to stock.
The guide to running phiremod from the sd card is beyond me and anything stable and simple will do.
Also, he's running the latest BN firmware on the nook.
This is the best:
[ROM][CM7] Size-agnostic SD Card image and CM7 installer for SD Cards. with updater
This gives you CM7(2.3 Gingerbread) and it self adjusts depending on the Size of the card you use.
It also makes installing GoogleApps and Updating the ROM easy without the need to have a Linux PC or ClockWorkMod. You just put the ROM zip on the "boot" partition(the one that shows up in Windows) and Hold N+Power for 6 seconds when your Nook is off to boot to Recovery and it'll Automatically Update from the zip. It works the same way when installing Gapps.
All in all, the best expirience I've had with SD ROMs.
PS: I'm doing the same thing as your friend. I have Unrooted Stock on EMMC and run CM7 off my 4gb Class 6 SD.
