6th. time it did worked.. !!!!!!!!!
thnx so mutch
I have the same screen as posted above.
I also got it in download-mode..but when I try to flash the phone in ODIN it's not progressing...

The first time I flashed I used JG5, but after a flash the phone did not start normally..no normal homescreen etc. Now it cant start at all..
Edit:
I am trying to flash it again, but nothing happens..
im trying to post a screenshot which im not allowed to do apparantly..
i fixed it by holding doing the hard reset, after that, reboot your PC before the next attempt..
did the trick for me !
I already had this problem too, and naturaly tried two things
A: remove battery => useless
B: hold on the download mode keys => after a few seconds it worked ^^
but just in case, what is this hard reset that you are speaking about ???
This is what I did so far, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Step by step:
1. Loaded PIT (version 513) and PHONE / CODE / SRS in Odin
2. SIM and SD card phone
3. Download-mode phone
4. Connected phone to PC
5. Flashed phone (JG5)
6. Flashing done, rebooted phone
7. Android screen appeared with a number of options (update file / ...)
8. Pressed the Home-button (one of the options chosen, can not remember for sure ..)
9. Rebooted phone but does not go beyond animation and galaxy logo
10. After this nothing happens ..
11. put phone in recovery mode (hard reset)
12. put in download mode (soft reset)
13. tried to re-flash procedure but did not start
14. Kies reinstalled
15. Restarted PC
16. Reconnected phone
17. Tried other USB ports
18. Flash-process started again but no progress
19. Started again from step 1 (now with PIT 512 and firmware WJM1 PIT)
20. Now flash did start
21. Restarted phone, again same screen from Step 7
22. Chose repartion-option and then rebooted
23. Restarted phone again but progress does not go beyond animation and galaxy logo
24. After this nothing happens again ..
I'm using Windows 7 64bit..Geez, ealier I had no problems at all with flashing my old samsung jet..
Would it be possible that my galaxy S is just like dead or something?
Does it hang on the logo screen or does it close the logo screen and then hang?
After flashing it does stay on the logo screen for a while, 5-10 minutes sometimes.
I am not tying to be patronizing, i am actually trying to help

How did you get this screen?

If not, how can y get a recovery mode? It could restore the bootloader?

Hi there
Right now my Samsung Galaxy S wouldn't turn on.
Before this happened, I tried to flash DXJG4 on my device but ODIN got stuck at factoryfs.rfs for ages (more than 10 minutes). So I unpluged the device and took out the batterry. Then i inserted in the battery again and press Volume Down+Home+Power Botton (to get into download mode again). but nothing happens. Cannot even get anything to come up no matter what i press.
Im freaked out right now. Can somebody please help?
Edit : The screen comes back up now after a 30 minute darkness. phew!
Tried to flash again but still stuck at

Maybe try to download firmware again as well as pit file. Then try to flash it again. Its really hard to brick this phone. Of course I understand that you have usb drivers properly installed and you know well flashing procedure with odin.

wait, so it does not even turn ON at all?
it'll not be possible to flash anything if you can't even mange to turn it on
at the very least in the worse case scenario you should see this fail screen of a bad flash

you could try going into RECOVERY MODE first,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/Vibrant_GT-I9000M
then select the options to Wipe Cache, then Wipe Data
reboot,
now go back into Download Mode
and try to flash with Odin3 again
and make sure Check the box to REPARTITION

No, can't go into download or recovery mode
then, you wont be able to do much to fix it.
take it back to the store, tell them your computer rebooted when it was updating.

Don't take your phone to the store... =)
Just try this:
- Remove battery+sdcard+power cord+everything you can
- Press AND HOLD the "Volume Down" + "Power Button" combination
- Count to 3 and say "CĂș da velha"
- Ask someone to plug in the battery
Welcome to download mode... I hope =)

Hello guys.
I just have one very weird problem with my phone.
Previously, i've been using the asian singapore firmware dxjf4. Today, I decided to flash over to JG5, but didn't like it. So i flashed back to my asian firmware.
What happened is, during the point of flashing, my phone says
E:Error in /cache/recovery/sec_csc.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted.
Then installation of firmware terminated. Therefore, my phone is still bricked, and I don't know how to revert it back to the asian firmware.
When i flashed the european jg5 firmware, i had to add in the .pit 512, the csc, the pda, and the modem. But for the asian firmware, i only need the pda. So did i flash incorrectly? please help!
Do i need to do a factory data reset before i flash?
Or is there a special way to flash from jg5 to dxjf4?
I wouldn't want another firmware as a solution, because the singapore firmware has specific features and i got certain carrier benefits from the 2 year contract phone line that could enable those specific features.
Thanks.

If you're still stuck, you can unplug it and start over. But before you do, jot down what the Odin log shows, so we can tell what got flashed up to the hang.
Also, post more info, like what firmware you were running, what brand unit, etc.
Will do.. Thank you sir.
roto's the man for any problems as always lol
I have a sch-i800 tab (verizon) at this point. Odin is waiting forever with movinand.mst
Any thoughts to unstick?
I am in the same boat with a Vzw Tab. Has there been any luck with anyone since Feb?
any fix for this?
I'm on a Verizon Tab and getting stuck at this part too. Been an hour so far. Does it take a long time? How do I fix it? Thanks in advance.
Still nothing on this???
just happened to me finally failed tab shut down and will not turn back on
I'm in the same boat. Trying to flash Roto-JMI-Fullv2 after a botched flash with CWM. Tab is currently showing the hone, triangle and PC screen, and Odin 1.70 is stuck on movinand.mst. My tab is a verizon unit.
Does anyone solved this movinand.mst freeze problem?
Ouch! Bricked mine too. Too bad that Tablet was really a nice device.
I guess when Sprint says they don't want your device updated you'd better listen.
I can't even get back to factory reset now.
Any update on this?
I am on the same situation:
Odin hangs at movinand.mst
Here's the log:
Code:
<ID:0/018> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/018> zImage
<ID:0/018> param.lfs
<ID:0/018> cache.rfs
<ID:0/018> dbdata.rfs

<ID:0/018> movinand.mst
<ID:0/018>
<ID:0/018> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
I tired out of curiosity to create a new package WITHOUT movinand.mst, and it flashes with no problems (but of course would't boot!)
So I guess the problem really is at movinand.mst?
Another theory: maybe it's not movinand.mst per se, but just that Odin hang after certain time, and being movinand the last one it happen to be there?
At a certain point I had to replace my USB cable. As I was in China when I bought the spare cable I cannot be sure about it's quality, maybe slower cable- causes odin's timeout?
seems the problem is actually movinand.mst
I created 2 copies of the .TAR, one with everything BUT movinand.mst, one with only movinand.mst. The first one loads with no problem, the one with movinand.mst fails.
With other fw (eg: XXJQ1) i get the same situation on hidden.rfs.
something wrong with these 2...
it's defintely me
I am having problems with all possible roms: i have tried JME, JQ1 and others, always something wrong happens at the end.
The best I can get to is to get to the flashing logo, but no boot.
I have tried chainfire's SGTBootloaderCheck-1.0 (while in recovery mode) and it tells me I am clean..
i dont know what to do, it doesnt look like a heavy brick, but I cannot get out of it!
Can you still enter download mode? try manually flashing factoryfs and kernel from a stock rom via heimdall.
That usually manages to get me out of a soft brick.
@will
I had the phone and pc screen to after a botched odin load. Its rather known as the "you suck at loading software" screen lol. Rest assured its just a soft brick if you can atleast get to it or see it so all hope isn't lost. Its another download mode screen basically.

Although mine is the tmo version relatively the basic mechanics should be doable.
I fixed mine by plugging it into the computer and once that screen comes on odin should detect it. It took a while so just be patient. Once odin shows the yellow com box have the pit and the roms tar file ready. Click Start and it should catch and load the rom. That's what i did and it got me back up and running.
If your battery is dead then just plug it in the wallcharger for 2hrs. Should give the battery enough charge to complete the procedure.
My advice is to find a stock Verizon GB rom with pit and tar files. After that just look for a custom kernel that gives cwm.
After that you can flash other roms once your back in action. Hope this helped a fellow gtab user ;-)

hi @Derrian, i can get to download mode.
I have tried many Rom's but all fail at either hidden.rfs of movinand.mst (depending their content).
Could you suggest me any ROM in particular you have tried?
Do You think it has to be THE original from brand (china unicom) or it can be any stock version?
thanks!

I am reading Boca's instructions for the first time.
If I understand correctly, the bases are the same as Overcome: the assumptions is that you install the ROM using CWM recovery of a clean and working GB_Stock_safe_v5 install, then flash OC's kernel to convert FS to ext4.
But in my case I cannot Flash GB_Stock_safe_v5, as Odin would fail at hidden.rfs.
I am not sure that is a good idea to change FS formatting on a semi-bricked tab as mine?
Could I revert back if something goes wrong?
Hey all,
As per title, A while back I rooted and installed a few custom roms on my unit before sticking with one named
"GT-7000_SweetROM_V11.1_LTA" and all was going well until a "super user" app update and a "low battery" met in the middle and my phone lost power and turned off.
Now my phone will not boot and freezes on the samsung logo, pressing vol up + power + home will, not bring up the recovery mode
but vol down + power + home will take me to a download screen, Odin, if my research is right.
I've read a few posts with the same symptoms as me but with different reasons for getting there in the first place and I'm unsure of what to do.
If my reading has been correct I'm not hard bricked but am in a bit of a spot and PC Odin can help me out, but then there are different versions of Odin as well.
Just some more bits and peices that I can think of to try and give you all as much info as possible. here goes,
I do remember Philz ???? something on my phone and was able to switch between roms by placing them on the external micro sd card and using vol up + power + home to navigate a menu.
Whilst writing this post I have had my unit plugged in via usb and it justs sits there with the battery icon showing but it shows no movement ie: the little cirle will not spin nor will the green charge level go up. Also it tried to install "mobi" something onto my pc.
Another problem I'm having is finding a valid download link for PC Odin any help there would be cool.
If you need anymore info I'll do my best but I'm very new to this, many thanks

I'm sure the battery is fine it's the phone thats mucked up, I've not had any problems to idicate my battery was failing
Are there any other avenues I could explore? I'm willing to get a new battery but then I could have 1 phone and 2 dead batteries and no way of charging.
When I tried flashing PhilZ kernel and the jb rom with Odin it was Odin that did its thing then reported to have failed, the phone had power to it the whole time and was showing the download screen with the message "do not turn off target".
thanks for you help so far

If there is a proper connection, then odin should be able to get the partition mapping from the phone and will be displayed as

and if I cant get a proper connection (I can't, Odin never gets past SetupConnection) Im doomed?
That's why try on a different pc.
Would a clean install of win7 work, I have spare hard drive I could try, I'm guessing youre thinking driver probs on my pc

Yeah. That should do.
Ever since I updated my Galaxy note 8 to latest OTA software, I'm getting this weird issue with the display. Its better to see the behavior yourself in this video than me trying to explain it
I tried to flash the device to stock firmware (The one that came with the device from factory) using Odin and firmware files from Sammobile but I keep getting errors
and non of the threads' solutions work.

I don't know if its a software issue or hardware issue. The service center denied to give any service because the device is "too old"
What do you guys think? Is it fixable? Please guide me.
P.S. In case you can't see the video, Display goes nuts when the brightness is reduced below certain level.

Tried stuff:
- Reset the phone many number of times
- Cleared cache and all that stuff
- Tried in safe mode and no change in behavior
- Tried to flash/downgrade the firmware from sammobile but no success
Thanks in advance!
Rule #1 - Don't update phones if the OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission.
If the OTA updated the boot loader too you're locked into that generation of firmware.
I don't know. Looks like you fried the display or mobo. Check for loose connectors. Any water exposure?

No water damage, No drop damage, Never been opened. Good as new. To be exact, Android 9 was the last update the device would get apart from the security patches. I believe on of those did this but not sure.

So no way to go back in versions?
If you see in the video, the flickering starts only below certain level of brightness. Anything above that is perfectly alright.
If the display was fried, then the display would be flickering and glitching all the time despite changing the brightness right?
Edit: I think it might be because of the amoled display. I recently saw an video about burnout and ghost images issue in Oled displays but not sure how I can test if that's the case
The OLEDs get dimmer with age, about a 5000 hour lifespan at maximum brightness I think.
That wouldn't cause the display to flicker.
Check in settings>display to see if it has a direct current low light setting. Direct current vs pulse width modulation. On the new firmware they may have added this, although it seems unlikely.
It should be fine to do updates. DC Dimming is an unrelated topic. Downgrading the ROM (aka Firmware) is possible, but not sure if an unlocked bootloader is needed for a Downgrade.
If this was caused by a software update I don't know.
When trying to flash the original ROM, what settings are set in ODIN? You could try enabling "Erase All" and disabling "Repartition" if that's enabled.
Try this:
Finally got this fixed. it sounds like the reason for this is that since the latest update your phone cannot decide whether to use hardware or software back light settings. I managed to make the problem go away by doing this:
Go to settings >> system >> About device.
Find "Build number" and click 6 times fast on it.
You will then get the message saying: "You are now a developer"
Come back to Home Screen, and then go back to Settings >> system >> Now you will see the "Developer Options"
Now go to Developer options >> Drawing Section or Rendering Section >> Find "Turn off hardware overlays" or "disable hardware overlays" >> This will force the phone to always use GPU for screen adjustments. no more flickering.
