nook wont boot - Nook Color General

Hi, I have my wifes nook auto-nootered 1.0.1 and she had it off for a while (not charging and the battery was dead). It was stuck at the not enough power to boot screen, I got it past that and it even booted once then it went to the touch the android to begin. I did and played around with it then I restarted it and now it will only stay on the n screen. I have tried putting a fresh auto-nooter image back on the sd card twice. The messed up part it I cant do the 3 finger reset because it will only turn on when its plugged in, no matter how much I press the power it wont turn on. Can anyone help please?
EDIT: Ok so now I got it to factory reset with the 3 finger method but it still says on the n screen, I have ractory reset it twice now. I may be able to do the 8 interupted boots but I heard that makes it stay on the n screen as well.
EDIT 2: ok so I did the 8 boot fail after the 3 and got it working so mods can probably delete this thread thanks.
Thanks,
CLMT

Strange Problem: Possibly Half Bricked

I have been running CM6 on my G1 for a while with no major issues. However, this morning when I woke up, the phone was not turning on. The screen comes up with the bootloader white screen and keeps turning off. I had installed Advanced Task Killer the previous night and I suspected that it must have done something to the system. So I decided to reinstall everything from scratch, starting from DREAIMG.nbh.
My G1 looked to me as the T-Mobile UK version, so i used the RC7 DREAIMG.nbh. It flashed okay and booted fine. And when the Google account setup screen showed up, I tried to type my account details but very strangely I could only type the letters e d f x only. All others keys don't show up or do anything. I booted many times but the keyboard doesn't work at all, except those four keys.
I then wanted to flash RC29 thinking that I flashed the wrong version earlier. But now when I press Camera + Power, nothing happens. So I cant go to the bootloader screen. It just boots normally to the setup screen. I can however get the recovery screen when I press Home + Power but then because the keyboard's Alt or W is not working, I cant do a wipe either.
I also checked if it is talking to ADB, but ADB does not see the G1 either in recovery screen or after it has booted up normally.
I have been reading all day all over this forum, as well as others but did not find any similar problem or a way forward. Can anyone suggest how to get it back to normal. I don't think its totally bricked because it boots up normally and it can also go into recovery mode.

[Q] Nook Color stuck on Android boot screen during root

Nook Color stuck on Android boot screen during root - help?
I am currently attempting to root my husband's Nook Color with the autorooter listed on this website. When I did this to my device a few weeks ago, it went off without a hitch. Today, on this particular device, it gets stuck on the android logo screen for over an hour. I wound up shutting down, reformatted the SD card on my laptop, reburned the image, tried to root again, but have hit the same problem.
I could use some help as my spouse is starting to get testy and go through nook withdrawal.
Thanks in advanced.
Make sure you are using the correct nooter image for your Nook Color version.
Do a factory reset and a hard reset. 8 startup interruptions (hold power button to power on and then hold the power button to shut off when the n shows up, do 8 times), and hold the vol+/nook button and power to power on then following direction on screen. This should reset your nook to purchase setting. Then update your nook to 1.1 with the B&N update file. Then you can use the new nooter image.
Thank you. I did update to B&N 1.1 before using the nooter, so I hope that your instructions make a difference
Factory reset (power+n) should also be applied when doing a system reset (8 failed boot). A factory reset can be done by booting your NC with power+n, until you see the reset screen. Do both resets, before attempting to root again..
Factory reset will erase any data stored on the nook (books, etc)

Had same issue and this fixed my problem
No power and no charging
I've got a Nook Color via ebay Germany and I rooted it (Autonooter).
For a few weeks I had a great device!!
2 days ago - battery was low - I wanted to have a look onto the worldnews, just for a few minutes. At this moment a software update (from B&N?) began to work.
After this battery was completely empty.
And since this moment I cannot charge or boot my NC.
From time to time there is the Android starting screen with robot or, sometimes, the note, that battery is too low to power on - please wait 15 minutes.
What can I do? Now I'm waiting and charging 2280 minutes.
I'm using original B&N-cable in wall or computer an tried other micro-usb's.
Restore to stock witout power - I don't know how it works. I'm bloody beginner in Android devices and was so glad, that my rooting (with a lot of helpful threads and youtube videos) was successful.
The last 2 days I read a lot of clockwork and restore to stock. How do it work without power?
Please could someone help me? Thanks!!

[Q] HELP!! Stuck in LG boot logo!!!

Please help! My rooted LG Revolution won't turn on. When I unplugged it from the charger this morning I powered it off. when I went to power it back up all it does is flash the LG logo and do a little vibrate like it is force closing! Did you install Clockwork on it, or just rooted?
If you only rooted it, try performing a factory reset.
This can be accomplished by holding volume down and power until you see the screen change to "Clear data and factory reset?".
Press power to confirm.
You will lose your data, but your phone should return to normal.
Just rooted, no clockwork. I will give it a try! thanks!
Tried your suggestion...just keeps flashing and vibrating. Any other suggestions?
Did you ever see the factory reset screen?
No I didn't. just the LG logo flashing and the force close vibrate. the only way I can get it to stop is to take the battery out and put it back in. Then when I hold the voume down and the power button it just starts doing it all over again.

make sure you are holding it long enough. You have to continue to hold the power and vol button for sometime before you get the recovery screen.
As rooting will generally not brick a phone (it is the recovery mod that generally bricks), if you cannot get it, take it back tell them you woke up and it was on the charger like this. They should exchange it with out issue. (Do not mention that you rooted the phone)
It sounds to me like your phone is defective, it happens.
Another option is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1120062 .
I can walk you through it on IRC tonight if you're on around 12PM Pacific Time...
If not, there are guides for using LGNPST on the internet.
Good luck!
Thanks! Held the buttons down for a full 3 minutes and nothing. Is that long enough? Read through the other info you posted and boy does that look scary! LOL! I will try tomorrow when I have more time. Or maybe I should just return it since I have only had it for 12 days
try pulling the battery and holding the power key for about 30 seconds. my original droid use to do this from time to time and it always worked for me.
Thanks. Tried but it did not work. Ended up just returning it and getting a new one. Now I can start over! LOL Just came from the Samsung Fascinate and was pretty proficient in flashing roms and kernels. But I have to admit that I am a little confused with the process on the Revolution.
Not sure boot problem is related to root
I've had repeated problems with not being able to boot my Revolution. This has happened consistently no matter which ROM I've used. I've factory reset and tried Decrap and Revolt both. I can reboot my phone fine, but if I ever turn it off overnight, I go back to a blank screen in the morning.
It seems a number of non-root users have this problem.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOGM__SQB6Y
I'm not sure if having a low battery contributes to the problem, but I do know that Clockwork works better with a full battery.
This morning is the first time, however, that I have this exact problem. For a few times this morning I was able to get to clockwork and restore different ROMs, but always to the same blank loop during boot. Now not even able to get to Clockwork or Factory Reset. I'm headed in to Verizon to try for a replacement. I'll let you know if they make any noises about rooting.
Getting back into Clockwork
Update: I ended up getting back to Clockwork. Can't say exactly what did it, but what seemed to work was:
1. Charging the battery fully overnight
2. Removing the battery and holding the power button down for 30 seconds
3. Leaving the battery out for some time, about an hour I guess
4. With the battery still removed, plugging the phone in and allowing the bottom lights to flash about 10 times
5. Replacing the battery, holding down the power button and volume down.
After a full day of not being able to get into Clockwork, I was able to get in and do a factory reset.
Returning Rooted Phone to Verizon
FYI, I returned a rooted, stuck in boot loop phone to Verizon yesterday. In the store they arranged the return and did not ask about or look for rooting in any way.
They did try a factory reset, which was not working in any case, so no signs of Clockwork.
Same problem, different results.
I have a ROOTED LG Revo, but the first one I owned had the same problem. That one was NOT rooted, so must just be an LG thing. First phone had stock android 2.2, and this one has STOCK 2.3.4 ( after OTA ), and is just rooted with simple memory management and font tools. I WAS able to Hard Factory Reset, but the same problem still existed after reset. ADB cannot even recognize the handset. Boots with animation, stops halfway through, reboots into blank screen and freezes. RETARDED!!! This will be the second handset being sent back in as little as a month. I bought the REVO the DAY it came out, and loved it. But now I don't. No love left. I'm getting the Droid Razr!

Revert to Stock OS without SD Card

Hi Guys
The SD card slot on my Nook Color broke (card won't stay inserted and just pops back out). I am currently running Phiremod, but now need to return the device to B&N and want to get the stock OS on there.
There are obviously a lot of posts out there about restoring it to the stock software, but is it possible to do this without a functioning SD card slot? If not, has anyone tried returning a NC that is running a non-stock OS?
Thanks
I had this same thing happen to me. I did a three fingered hard reboot and then wiped again from within the b&n stock OS.
Power down the nook. When the cyanogwn logo comes up, hold down both volume keys, the n key and the power button at once (hence: three finger wipe). Hold the keys down for about ten seconds until the nook powers down. It will flash and as it is rebooting, repeat the same three fingered press. You will have to repeat this operation sucessfully 8 times in a row. If you don't press the buttons correctly, or in time, the boot animation may load. If so you will have to start the process over.
After the eighth successful hard reboot, the Barnes and noble stock will oad. Complete the b&n registration process, and then go into settings and do a complete wipe/factory reset. You must do both the hard reboot and the internal stock OS factory wipe to have the nook completely reset!
It is that easy.
Edit: oh yeah, there were no issues with the return. I did call and make sure they knew what the problem was, which was obviously a hardware issue, but since it was completely wiped, this method should work for anyone and any reason, functioning sdcard slot or no.

Thanks. Will try that tonight.
This worked well. Thanks for the instructions.
Small edit to the instructions above would be that you only have to hold down the '+' volume button when doing the three finger reset -- not both volume buttons. Also, on my version of Phiremod, there was no CM logo, so I just started the three finger reset after the "read forever" logo disappeared.
It actually took me two attempts at stringing together 8 in a row to get it to work. When it finally worked, I can't be sure that it was actually the 8th time, but just keep at it.
You guys keep surprising me every day, for real.
From running CM7, left it in the car where temp. was around 7 degrees, suddenly it returns to stock, and now running a custom ROM, just do a 8-time reboots and it's back to stock? Without reflashing stock ROM first? How that possible?
I had to return mine for the same reason and simply held the card in with my finger while wiping and restoring. Was somewhat painful and tiring but it worked. Just another reason for people not to frequently swap cards on this device.
Oh man, i tried that. I tell you what, I spent forever trying that method. For real, it made me want to smash the thing and never look back. I have some big hands, and the card kept slipping on me halfway through. It took me a while to find this method and i couldn't believe this wasn't option one instead of somewhat unknown.
That person who literally froze their nook back to stock- now that was just wild.

As far as I'm concerned that *is* the stock ROM. Literally, the Read Only Memory that it comes out of the factory with. Nothing short of an EMP can remove it. Mine falls back to version 1.0.0 after an 8+1.

Until that day, I am always under the impression of flashing custom ROM means OVERWRITES the stock ROM, no? If what's you said is true, then flashing custom ROM was just placing it ON TOP of the stock one.
Yeah, you literally can't lose the factory ROM. Its a beautiful thing. Having the sdcard as the primary boot makes the nook an ideal hacking tablet. I have torn through and messed with just about every system file and database I could think of, because it was all risk free.
I know that the tech moves fast, and people have their new darlings, the luster wears off and all that, but the nook is probably my favorite gadget I've ever bought. Unkillable.
LOL , after using NC for almost a year, I still find something to love the NC even more
It is awesome.
still trying
Am I doing this wrong?
Do I try the three finger wipe when the cyanogen(mod) symbol comes up or when the cyanogen(mod) 7 animated logo starts? All I wanted is access to Android apps( being from Canada).
Tried more than 8 times at the first symbol, but it comes up but the text ....Booting into recovery... Am I too quick on the trigger? Please excuse the old fart with big fingers. Thanks for any replies.

Start with the Nook completely powered off.
Press and hold the Pwr. button, the Vol. + button, and the n button until you see the screen flash.
Release all buttons for 1 sec then press and hold only the Pwr. button until the Nook powers down. (Backlight off) This works best in dim lighting.
Do it again.
Do it 8 times in a row and the next time it will install the image stored internally and you will be back to what it came out of the box with.
If you goof up the timing and it starts to boot up you will have to power it down again and start over at count one.
I have done this several timems on 2 different Nooks and it always works.
Oh and stop with the old fart stuff. I'm 60.
This was extremely helpful when for some reason it wasn't letting me restore the device in the first place. I really should've known about this but I appreciate it greatly and it is pretty great that it works so easily.

So what your saying is that I can restore my NC back to stock even if I've installed CM7 directly to the emmc, using the 3 fingered "salute" boot? I think I did something like this months ago, but my NC has been on the full android for so long now, I want to return it to B&N stock seeing as I have an android phone now...and maybe start over again.

I've never tried it in that exact situation but I think the answer is yes...
i tried this and after the 3rd attempt, the Rom manager menu appears and now i am on a rom menu loop, I hit reboot, the cyanogen logo appears and then the ROM manager menu!
not good!
I boot using sd card that was formatted with CM7.2 and works fine.
help please!
thanks!

I think you mean the Clockworkmod menu, not ROM Manager. If you are in a recovery bootloop, which it sounds like you are, go to my tips thread linked in my signature and look at item A8. Follow what it says and it may get out of it.

I tried to power it on it will vibrate than attempt to start get stuck at boot screen than eventually turn black. I tried booting into recovery to hard reset I will get to the menu do all the prompts and get the lg logo and back to black screen. I don't know what is going on. Is this a common issue? Admins if this is in the wrong section feel free to move it.

Not sure what caused the issue but if wiping from recovery doesn't work I would look into restoring phone with kdz file. Sucks to do that seeing as all data will be gone but hopefully you have a backup. If restore doesn't work you need to call T-Mobile for replacement
Sent from my Porn Infested G4
The replacement has been processed. Unfortunately trying to factory ? reset doesn't work because the phone ? wouldn't stay on long enough for that to happen. Love to know what actually caused this issue. Kinda kicking myself for not doing a weekly backup.
I actually got the same problem on mine but mine is rooted and was working fine but then randomly my phone is doing bootloop. I don't have terp installed and I'm I only able to boot up to software upgrade mode. Ive tried the step for format everything with holding the volume up n on button but after I did the reset stuff still does boot loops. Also another problem is that whenever I plug in phone to computer it doesn't show up, so I have no option to add roms or anything like tht to internal or sd card. Is there anyways too flash anything of the software mode, if so can you plz let me know thank you.
