[Q] How To: upload (.kml-files)POIs to IGO8.3 GPS - Off-topic

Private POIs & Routs from Google (.kml files)
Hello guys, I'm new & unexperienced in GPS stuff, and need your help !
I’m trying to upload some private POIs, which I’ve created with Google Earth (.kml files), to my GPS device (Chinese no-name brand), operating with IGO8.3.2.8 application.
According to instructions I’ve studied from some forums and from NAVNGO’s paper, I’ve opened a new folder - under "content" folder - named “userdata”, then in this folder, opened a “POI” sub-folder and a “ROUTE” sub- folder.
I copied to the POI folder, the kml poi files, and to the route folder, the routes I’ve prepared and saved as .kml file, in GE.
After turning the GPS device on, when pressing the “manage pois” button, I can see all the (kml) pois I’ve uploaded, but after activating them (one by one), I don’t see them any more. I can see only the regular pois that came with the map. Even when I’m searching over all the regular pois, my private pois doesn’t appear.
As for the routes, I don’t see them even not in “manage” state. They are there, and I see them by double clicking the sub-folder, in my PC, but not on the GPS.
I’m frustrated because I’m trying to solve the problem, for over two month now, and when checking and over checking myself, I don’t find anything I don’t do exactly by the instructions. In the forums I see other people declaring to do exactly the same instructions, and confirm that they succeeded and that it works. So what am I doing wrong ??. PLEASE advise me what shall I do to overcome this problem. Any assistance may help !
Thanks in advance,
Yonchi

WM5: Full installation guide for TomTom 5 with BT GPS

Rather easy, really.
1. Download the 5.10 upgrade from TomTom (You don't have to install the original 5.0 from the CD first). The file will be either an exe file or ppcup510.zip.
2. Unpack the zipfile (don't run the exe directly from WinRAR or similar programs, that will make it a lot harder to find the directories you want, unpack it to somewhere first). Run the update on the Windows PC. When the first window appears, go to the directory where the update is run from. Don't close the TomTom window, or the files you want will be deleted. You will see some new directories there, and what you want, is "nvapp". Within that you'll find a subdirectory called "app". Copy the four cab-files from that to your PPC, either via the network or ActiveSync. Never mind the ini files.
3. Go to your TomTom CD and find the directory Voice. You'll need to find the correct voice file. For Norway that's nor.cab, for Denmark it's dan.cab and so on. Copy that to the PPC as well.
4. Finally run all the five cabfiles. It doesn't matter which one you run first.
You're done. Of course there's the GPS as well:
1. Pair the Bluetooth GPS with the PPC.
2. Go into Settings, System, GPS. Set Program and hardware port to none and remove the tick from the box "Manage GPS automatically".
3. Settings, Connections, Bluetooth, COM Ports. Create an incoming port (I use COM8). Some ports will give you an error. Also create an outgoing port. I use COM7, and that is called "HOLUX GR-230 (COM7)" since I use a Holux GR-230 GPS.
4. Open TomTom and go through the regular setup. When you come to GPS setup, choose "Other Bluetooth GPS" and set that to the same port as your outgoing port. On my GPS that means COM7. Within 15 seconds your GPS should send signals. And you're good to go TomTom-ing!
And this was my post number 100. I'm so proud!
Thanks
I have added this to wiki but am not sure that it is for both WM5 and Ce2003.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Install_TomTom
WM5. You can simply run the installation app for WM2003SE, at least if you haven't installed AS 4, I have a sneakin' suspicion that it is the culprit, and not WM5 itself. And 2003 doesn't have the GPS applet in Settings.
And thanks! I tried to add it to the Wiki myself, but I'm hopeless with HTML and I haven't done any Wiki work...
Edit: Saw the note in the Wiki. I have done this twice on my WM5 Qtek 9090, it works as a charm.
Wiki is a piece of cake has Zero to do with coding.
use the edit button and you will see it.
There are one about 5 things you need to know and all of them you will see if you edit a page.
Maybe you would like to add your notes to the page!
Yeah, that was easy. It was creating a new page and linking to it that I couldn't get a grip on. Comments added.
Woo, Thx a lot. finally, i got tomtom 5 running on my ppc.
but anyway, anyone who has USA maps can share with us?? Westcost of USA is most importemt area for me.
Thanks again!!!!!!
Mastiff
If you go back a page and edit it you will see how to create a page.
After you have done the link a ? comes up, you then have to click on that to enter the content.
All Pages strart with BA_ or BA_WM5.
To get a feeling for links just edit a page that has one in it.
Check out the Wiki development Page on the root of BA wiki, You can set up a test area to create your own pages, edit format them ansd then post them when they are done. (you will see my page, edit it and will be able to work the rest out.)
If you have issues then pm me, I will also move files form Upload to a proper place and correct the link.
Have fun.
OK, thanks. I'll try that if I ever have anything worthy of the Wiki again...
Well, Tomtom is installed succesfully, but the registration of The Benelux map will not work.
This problem wasn't an issue before. With the TomTom 5.00 version from Bakonl.
Someone suggestions?
i got tomtom 5 installed and running fllowed by this guide. however, i copy the California Map to the root of SD Card. but tomtom shows "map not find"??
how to install a map. or i did something wrong?
by the way, i got map from my friend, he bought tomtom from bestbuy. i don't have full copy of tomtom 5. just downloaded the update package from tomtom.com
I just want to thank you for the great info on BT setup for GPS. I was trying to setup my Iguidance and Mapopolis with a Belkin BT GPS and had no luck. WM5 takes some getting used to.
Cheers!

Just happy to be able to help. I've gotten so much help on this forum that it's good I can give something back. Also I struggled like crazy with this, and most of the stuff is just compiled from other posters.
I have installed tomtom 5 but I can't install language.
On my cd I got languages as zip files called **1,**2, etc
I don't find a cab file.
voices are ok now
but gps status is searching for 30 min,I got 2 blocks on status but still no gps connection!!???
Backlight Tomtom 5 with wm2005
The installation works perfect but when i start tomtom5, my backlight is going down. If i look at the backlight settings then they are OK. If i change one of the backlight settings while tomtom is active, the backlight is going on.
Mastif's solution is nice, but imho not conceptual
Mastif, thank you for your solution. But I think it isn't working at all. I'm talking about Blue Angel (WM5) and ASUS BT-100 GPS reciever.
I had big problem connecting TomTom 5.0 to GPS reciever under WM5. Devices were paired well, but TomTom 5.0 (and all other GPS programs) were not able to see serial port on which devices communicated. Avialable were just COM 1, 2 and 9 + BT UART. GPS was paired on ports 7 and 8.
After a lot of attempts I found a solution (IMHO supposed by MS as default):
- turn on Manage GPS Automatically in settings
- set correct hardware port where is GPS paired (COM8)
- choose port where programs should see GPS (COM7)
- start GPS application
- if I understood well, after first applications attempt to recieve GPS data, OS will create "virtual" GPS on port COM7, pair it with real GPS (the same PIN) and start to use it.
- voila! TomTom (5.0) started working!
BUT! This process is not repeatable! I spent a lot of time to start it again, with very bad success, sometimes ok, sometimes not. And I can't imagine that I will write PIN code for GPS pairing at every start of TomTom (eg in moving car
So I tried Mastifs solution with partial success, I upgraded TomTom at 5.1, turned off GPS sharing feature, paired GPS and TomTom 5.1 seems to be ok. But other programs not! They don't see paired COM port as well...
Any other advice? I need to complete this task to November, 1st, because I will drive Atlanta - Key West - and back. I need a satellite navigation! Last month I made a "little" trip Prague - Germany - Netherlands - Belgium - France - most western part of England and back, major part I drove alone and can't imagine driving without TomTom! But it was with MDAII (Himalaya), now with Blue Angel I am nearly lost!

Hi firstly thanks for this method I'm so happy to have it working on my pda (your a champion)...One issue i have encountered is that even after installing off the update of 5.10 in prefs it says it is 5.0 which is odd to me as I have it working fully and as far as I know it doesn't have any probs with the probs of 5.0 but saying this i'm not sure how I would know if it is having probs with my vga etc etc
thanks in advance
Kind of strange. Mine says "Prg. Version 5.100 (5160)" under Preferences, Show version.
Thx for the guide, I finally got TT working again on wm5 !
One snag though ... TT5 doesn't appear in the Today screen, even when I select this program in "system - today" :?

how to install tom tom voices...

i can't find it, and i've been searching for well over a week on the forum. a little help, please?
eric b
the voice files come in three parts the .vif the .chk and .bmp you need all 3 of the files of the corisponding voice to put into the voice folder thats in your root directory on you sd card
as said above make sure you have all 3 files, create a directory in the root of your microsd card called voices and then paste the 3 files into it. Open TomTom and go to the change voices under the settings and then scroll right until you find the voice you added.
I use version 6.010 because it allows me to have the changed data.chk file in the main tomtom dir which then has the speed camera warning voice of liz whitaker rather than the bell chime moo etc.
Russ
I need some more help here. I have spent hours fighting with this.
I installed TomTom from my MicroSD card and told it to install to device. Which it did. I have tried putting the voice files in the root of the SD card, tried putting them in a folder called voices in the root, I think I have tried them in every conceivable place on the device itself and can't get it to work. I accidentally got a Yoda voice to work but now can't figure out where I put the voice file to make it work. I had to flash my rom and now that voice is gone too. Is there a TomTom FAQ someplace on the net that people can go over.
Does this help?:

Hi there,
I also had the same problem, when I first bought my kaiser. There was a thread here in this forum telling how to rectify it. I vaguely remember going to the start>settings>connections>bluetooth. Then enabling the blue tooth explorer before installing the voices did the trick. But Now I did a hard reset and the problem is back again. So if u could find the solution please post it here...I couldnt find the orginal post.
Please check this thread..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339992
Download it directly from kaiser by clicking on the tomtom plus services.
It you have a problem with TomTom seeing new voices you added, then you have to delete the reference file in the voice directory TomTom uses to organize the different voices. Once you delete this file (sorry I forget what it is called), then on the next launch, TomTom should see all of your new voices.
All I had to do was put the 3 files for each voice I wanted into the voice folder. This folder is located in the "my device" > "program files" > "navigator" > "voices". Then when you start the program, go to the voice preference settings. It will ask you if you want to use voices in your language or all languages. Choose "all languages". Scroll backwards through the voices and before long you should see the voices that you added to the folder.

Problem opening Office documents from SD card

Wondered if anyone else has this problem?
Most of my documents (.docx, .doc, .xls) are stored on the SD card for obvious reasons. If I access them through a file explorer, they open fine. However, if I open the Office program directly, they don't show up - only the one stored on the device do. (Although, the text files from SPB Backup stored on the card show up through Office!)
Thing is, I'm sure when I first got the phone, docs stored on SD card showed up when you opened Word or Excel (with a little mem card symbol in the corner of the Office file icon). Any ideas what I might have done to change things.
Am running stock Orange ROM, with too many added cabs and programs to remember, never mind list here!
I have looked through the forum, but I have to admit my attention started to drift by page 205, so forgive me if it already addressed.
On a side note, if you read the entire post list from page 1 to current, it is amazing how many repetitive posts there truly are. If people just updated the previous post re a particular question, rather than reposting, the forum would be 1/3 the pages! Although from experience, the forum search rarely brings up the right entries - I almost always have better luck just scrolling through the pages. Perhaps an index of all post headings and thread addresses would help people to find what they want. Perhaps if I have some free time... Do people think this would be useful?
Anyway, I digress. Any help with the above would be much appreciated (the much dreaded hard reset is hovering at the back of my mind, but I would much prefer a less drastic solution!)
Are they in the storage card root? (\Storage Card)
Also, have you gone into P.Word, Options, & selected the storage card for where to store doc's?
Try this: \Storage Card\My Documents. Also, you must have the templates in the original \My Documents\Templates folder or it will not open word docs.

Really, the wiki is supposed to be the central bank for known issues & the fixes. Kaiser is just too new & no one has really taken charge of the wiki because everyones still try to get everything ironed out & customized.
They are in Storage Card\My Documents\sub-folder
I have already changed the default storage location.
Strangely, Word lists all .txt documents on storage card, regardless of which folder\subfolder they are in - some are not even in My Docs.
But all will open normally if opened via File Explorer.
Further to the above, Word will list the files if they are stored in Storage Card\My Documents but not if they are in subfolders of My Documents. Seems odd, seeing as .txt files show up wherever they are located.
Anyone know of any fix to this, other than dumping all doc files in My Docs, with no sort of filing - seems a bit messy (but not surprising for Microsoft software I guess).
Just discovered that even if I navigate to either my Work or Personal folder via Word, it still does not show the .doc or .xls files there! Apparently my files do not exist, even though I can open them normally via Explorer. What's going on ?!
If you mean that your files dont show after opening word, thats just because Mobile Office programs dont show deeper than the first folder.
There is programs that make them see more deep in the folders and fix this issue, like Pocket Plus 4.
There was some freeware solution to this also, search and you will find...
Thanks Sane for the advice. That certainly explains a lot. I have Pocket Plus 4 installed - I have checked the "File Open/Save Dialog" option when I installed but unchecking and checking it again hasn't made any difference. As mentioned in the OP, I have scrolled through all 220-odd pages and couldn't see any previos posts regarding Office documents. Any idea of the rough direction I should head for more answers??

TomTom 7 on Diamond and cspeech files

Does anyone know what files like "cspeech_NLD.dat" are for?
There are with the 7.20 maps of Western & Central Europe.
Is it perhaps part of the TomTom text-to-speech? Does that work with Navigator when you use one of Loquendo computer voices from e.g. the GO 910?
These files are for the text-to-speech (TTS) part indeed. However, it doesn't seem to work in TT7 for PDA. I would like it to too...
About the cspeech File in TomTom maps
I have searched the Internet quite a bit because I thought about the very same question, but certain information about this topic is very rare - few people know it exactly.
But since this has been always a splinter in my mind I searched for it and found out the following:
the cspeech files are for a text-to-speech feature, which reads street names for example. You can watch a demo at YouTube here.
However, despite some assumptions it works definitely NOT with TomTom Navigator 7, which is the latest Software for PDA (Smartphone, Windows Mobile, etc.). Probably TomTom 8 will do it when it is available for PDAs.
So you might think about deleting these files to safe the ~250 MB (For Western- & Central Europe map) of space.
However many users report crashs without the files so I suggest you to replace them with 0 kB dummy files instead of just deleting them. This seems to work very good.
I uploaded a pack below which contains dummies for all countries. Just pick the ones for the files you have and override your originals. (However you also could make dummies on your own)
Happy navigating!
I hope you don't mind me to dig out this topic again, because I thought it would be very valuable information which is not easy to find in the internet.

move favorites from tomtom6 to tomtom7

hey guys, i recently upgraded to tomtom7, however, i would like to also move all my favorites from tomtom6 without having to manually enter all of them. where would i find those on my memory card so i can transfer them? thanks
omar
Anyone?
This is something I've been trying to find how as its incredibly frustrating, I can't see anything in the original documentation or anything on how to do this.
Have you tried here, http://www.tomtom.com/support/support.php?ID=2&Language=4???????????????
This is XDA-Developers, not TomTom support. Geesh!

Correct, and unless I'm very mistaken many people discuss various 3rd party software applications, their merits and also tweaks/twiddles to make them work correctly on their Kaiser, etc.
Checking the software forum I see various other topics that you could apply the same logic to.
BTW; TomTom actually advise to manually re-enter the favourites between versions, which isn't a very good customer support reply in my opinion. I'm now following a path which shows the .cfg in the maps folder seems to be the key to migrating favourites over.
