Hello people, first post
I have this little problem that's been bothering me with my new O2X.
When restarting my phone, the SIM Toolkit service, StkAppService - com.android.stk, pops up in service manager, and seem to be running fine. After a while though, the service seem to get stuck on "restarting".
Haven't quite been able to lock down when/why. Seems to be connected to extended periods in sleep, or playing games, but this could be just random.
When shutting down the service manually, everything seems to be just fine, and it won't come back until I for some reason restart the phone again, then it it'll be back to working fine, and after a while stuck on "restarting" again.
Is this something I should care about at all? Just seems to me that having something stuck in a restart loop (could just take a really long time, not 100% sure it's actually looping yet) would drain my battery.
So, to the point. Could this be a fault of the phone itself (making it a warranty case), a bug with Android 2.2 (wait for 2.3) or an issue with my service proivider (in witch case I'll contact them)?.
Been unable to find the answer on my own, and this is my first Android-phone, so I consult you, the wizards.
Update:
Checked with a friend of mine who bought the O2X at the same time as me, and he also has StkAppService stuck on 'restarting'.
And the phone glitched out and refused to fall asleep by itself today. Restart fixed it though, haven't happened again.
Another Problem with STK
My problem with STK is another one:
I have two SIM-Cards installed in a dual-SIM-Card adapter. So with stock ROM switching between both cards via STK works fine.
Now I tried several CM7-based ROMs, but with all ROMs I receive the following error massage when switching to the other SIM (translated from German to English):
We are sorry! The process com.android.phone has been unexpectedly terminated. Pleas try again later.
After that, I can enter the PIN-code of my SIM and it is activated. I´m not able to switch back, when I tap on the app-icon it switches back to home-screen.
Any solution for that? (sorry for my bad English...)
Hi,
two years alter, I am facing the same issue, and XDA developers apparently are not working on including proper STKs with custon 4+ Android Roms.
It's a pity

Hi,
I have a rooted GT-i9000m (bell Galaxy S Vibrant). I used the one click lag fix to root my phone and it works fine.
A few days ago out of no where all the apps started auto closing as soon as i opened them and then both the menu and back touch buttons lit up and the screen went black. I held the power down till it rebooted only to get and error with com.android.calendar even tho I never use the app. When it finish's booting none of my installed apps are showing.
The first time it happened with com.android.app and I did a full wipe and factory reset and just reinstalled everything.
Ideally I don't want to system reset to factory settings again and lose all my files and notes that i copied back on to the phone 2days ago...
Please note I have tried clearing the data for the calendar app in settings -> apps and i cleared the calendar back up. My problem is that none of my installed apps are showing...
(Update) I also cant reinstall or update apps due to a Installation error - Insufficient storage. But there's room on both SD cards. I also set 850mb for apps when i did the one click lag fix and i don't have 850mb of apps installed.
(Update 2) I did a factory reset again this time i didn't format the internal and external SD cards. (It works like new again) Thus I got to keep all my personal files and ring tones ect. The only thing that was deleted that I didn't back up is my Notes. This leads me to my new question whats best for backing up apps on a rooted SGS (bell Vibrant)?
If anyone has answers they would be much appreciated.
i had the same problem
install rom manager from the market place
there is a option in there "Fix Permissions" just run that and it will fix it up for you
only takes 1-2min to run
Tried what you said but i cant install anything... I get Installation Error - Insufficient storage available.
I now understand the cause of the problem. I change my battery once and some times twice a day. At first I would wait for the long shut down (untill the screen goes totaly black) and then take off the back and swap out the battery. At least 3 times the phone would boot up and ask me for the network unlock code (I bought the unlock code directly from bell for 75$). I found this rather annoying so i tried just taking the battery out wile it was on (idle) and it appeared to work flawlessly at least 20-30 times before the phone would start to do an endless force close loop cycle. This kept forcing me to do a factory reset on the phone. I can only assume the one click lag fix and my disregard for the need of the shutdown before removing the battery must be all the cause of my problems.
I will try and see if my phone is more stable with out the one click lag fix.
nope that is not the cause of the problem
but it sounds like you are another victim of the lag fixes that is killing your internal SD card.
not the fault of the lag fix, it just make the problem apear sooner than later
I have been having a similar issue and I'm using Voodoo lagfix. I think it's because I took the battery out before it had completely shut down.

Well the phone bit the dust today. I opened up google maps to look up an address and it crashed with the usual error. So i rebooted the phone and now it stays stuck at the boot logo. (the glowing S with both touch keys staying lit) So i did the recovery thing again but this time I had to do the Vol-up + home + power in order to get the phone working some what. IDK but it wont let me log into my google account to sync my contacts. My APN settings are correct and working and I even tried off my Wifi at home. I'll just hope its a google problem and not my phone acting up. Thanks for the pointer to the bad internal SD. That may be the problem kinda hard to prove it to Samy thoe...
I get force close errors after about 4-7 days of use. Now its gotten worse. A few days ago I was looking up an address and my phone crashed and rebooted it self. It then hug at the S boot logo for 20mins. I got to my friends apartment building to find my phone still stuck at this boot logo. I couldn't remember his apartment number or buzzer code... Normally i just check my contacts list and buzz the code. I was standing out side in the Canadian fall cold wind trying to get this phone to work... OMG i almost just smashed it on the spot. Anyways I remembered about something i had read on this forum about the recovery mode ( i had used it to root ) so i tried that out got the little menu and tried every option before having to do the dreaded factory reset. Well nothing work with the exception of the factory reset it got my phone working in about 5mins... LOL
Anyways I thought I might try upgrading the firmware when I got home. What a mistake... I cant control my phones MP3 player via my bluetooth car stereo any longer. Tried everything even a factory reset and formatting the internal and external SD's. I tried running it with out rooting it again and with out the lag fix in hopes that I wouldn't get a force close error. Wouldn't you know it about 5 hours after the factory reset un-rooted just after i finish coping over all my music. I get a force close error! So I tried again and this time the phone ran for about 30hours before it started giving me force close errors about the email now...
Sigh I've tried just about everything in my power to make this phone work. So I assumed it must be the phone... I called Samsung up to get a RMA going... Wouldn't you know it they tell me that I have to call my carrier to get it RMA/repaired. I try to explain that I bought the phone with out a contract and bought the unlock code from Bell so I could use it on Fido. They tell me to call Fido... ROFL Fido wouldn't even give me their APN settings when i got this phone so knew they would be of no help. They don't even have one android phone in their line up i tell the sammy rep. So they tell me I should go back to the Bell store I bought it from to get it repaired/RMA'ed.
I doubt Bell will be of much help but here's hoping.
Do you think my phone is broken, bad flash, buggy memory, ect and needs to be RMA'ed?
Update...
I got my phone back from repairs 2 weeks ago. They flat out replaced the phone for a new one. This was a huge headache for me because the new one wasn't unlocked. Took Bell 2 hours to get the new one unlocked wile my wife waited out side double parked downtown! (I thought it would be a quick pick up and I would be out) The blue-tooth works flawlessly again!!
Much to my dismay the replacement phone has started acting up much like my first one did. It gets several force close errors a day and has gotten to the point where it no longer can send or receive text messages (using Handcent). The stock Music Player app also force closes at random with more frequently. It looks like I got another Lemon. This time around I did NOT root, lag-fix, or flash firmware. I will be sending it for repairs as soon as I can afford to buy another phone to use wile this one is off at repairs. My back up phone is a 3~ year old Iphone3g that my son has made his... (cracked screen, vol rockers dont work, power button is jammed in, the LCD screen it self is bleeding on the top edge)
The Vibrant never let me down other than as a phone. As a divx player or using all-share it rocks! I use these features A LOT to play my 720p divx movies on any TV or the projector in the bedroom .
with that being said I might keep the phone just as a portable movie player to bring from place to place and put my sim in something more stable.
I just have updated my mobile from 2.2.1 to 2.3.4, i used this forum tutorial - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1139050
I have issue - my phone is turning off for no reason, you know i don't have lots of apps only fb,twitter, skype and 'advanced task killer'
actually when I am doing Skype video calls, writing SMS or anything else my phone just changed to 'black screen' every couple hours and afterwards my Samsung turning off with sound. To turn on I need take battery off and then into back then he allow to turn on...
before I updated I had little bit similar situation, my phone had 2.2.1 version and i didn't have black screen, but my phone just had 'freezing' for 10 sec or more...
what's problem for? what's your suggestions ? thank you a lot.
Ed
I have this issue as well, although it doesn't happen as much since I upgraded to gingerbread. I did have it happen once the other day. I was listening to music and I needed to make a call and when exiting the music app, it froze. It then went black and I had to take battery out and put it back in. It's annoying if you got a otterbox case on it with two layers. I had heard updating to gingerbread stops this but so far I don't think it's 100%. I use my phone as my alarm and one time it went dead with a full charge and I was almost late for work.
Let me know if you figure something out.
what can say experts about our issue ?
I will take some day my mobile to repair centre.. it's sad if couple of people have same issue and nobody can tell us the problem reason.
Try to flash a custom kernel and see if it the problem is still there
can you tell me or give information what's is 'flash custom kernel' ?
I have also encountered this problem, very frequently if i may add.
the problem actually first occured a few months ago, after i updated my firmware to gingerbread.
In my case the phone does not freeze, the screen wont turn on or respond to any gestures (hardware/capacitive button won't too), however any running process still runs, in specific i can still recieve phone calls, or at least hear the ringer.
I know of many other people that encountered this problem, all came from different ROMs (MIUI, SH 3.5 and up, Stock, PilotX etc..) and i, for one, can say that in the past two-three weeks it atarted appearing a few times a day.
So - does anyone have any ideas for the nature of this BUG??
BTW I use the i9000t which i own for over 7 months now.
Same problem
Hi, I have the same problem here.
and have seen this myself on stock roms too.
It doesn't happen very often (only once on my phone for now) but it is getting me pissed off as no one knows the nature of this BUG.
could it be a problem with the latest 2.3.4 version ? or an update of one of the applications?
I don't have too many apps on my phone only skype and 2-3 games.
the only thing I can think of right now is that all people who had this bug had skype on the phone but I don't really think it's from that.
Hi, And-roid if u ll update to 2.3.4 your mobile will working deffo better, i suggest you update your mobile to 2.3.4
Hey eddys, i have 2.3.4 for over two months now, and the problem just go worst...
Hi eddys,
I have the 2.3.4 (and my brother and sister in law have it too with a stock rom).
this is happening on all roms and all kernels...maybe a problem with the 2.3.4?
I don't know but it is very weird, no one has an answer for this....
edit:
just checked this with my phone supplier and of course they have no idea what so ever about this bug.
come to think of it they didn't even know how to fix my brother in laws "problem" when the 3G internet didn't work (settings-->wireless and network-->mobile network--> check the V on Use packet data ) so no surprise there.
Anyone???
Maybe theres another forum that this problem should be posted at??
I have this bug too, but only while tethering. I've found a solution to the tethering related crashes - after you start tethering, go to the SuperUser settings, and disable root permissions for android wifi tether. Your phone shouldn't crash anymore.
hey zyczu,
unfortunately, I do not use tethering at all, do you suggest i should disable ALL root permissions?
This bug is really getting on my nerves!!!
Everything else, but this, is working great...
Since upgrading my i9000m to 2.3.3 through Kies, my phone has exhibited similar symptoms 3 times: freezing, not responding to touch etc.
The first time I had pulled the battery when it did this, but the 2nd time I had just put the phone down a minute or 2 earlier so display was off so didn't notice it(about 2 weeks ago). And the 3rd time(today), I was using it at the time, and so started taking off my rubberized case, only to have it restart before I got the chance to pull the phone back off.
Startup took much much longer than normal, which I recall the startup was similar during the 2nd "freeze & reboot". For some reason today, I randomly though maybe its an OTA update so I checked "Settings..About Phone" and found my kernel version listed as:
Code:
2.6.35.7-I9000UGKG3
[email protected]#2
I have no idea what it was before, but September 8th was 2 days ago... It is possible it said that before today's restart but no idea. I have a PIN on my SIM so when starting up have to enter PIN for it to work, but on these auto restarts I never got asked for my PIN so it could have restarted other times too without me noticing(ie. middle of night).
Hmm, mine used to something similar when I would leave Bluetooth on but would move out of range of a paired device. After a few minutes it would just shut down or stop responding. Haven't had that issue since moving to Milkys rom.
hi guys, i just used this tutorial http://androidadvices.com/how-to-up...0-to-stable-gingerbread-xwjvh-2-3-3-firmware/
first I installed 2.3.3 XWJVB then 2.3.3 XWJVH
just doing step by step...
my phone was working fine 2days then i had same issue and then I changed to original SAMSUNG battery and it's working perfect.
try this..
p.s. what kind of batteries you have 'original' or 'non-original' ? thank you
madmigs:
I did not notice the kernel version ive had before, however i took my phone to a service center today, and for what i can see i have the same version as you do, take aside the i9000t instead of i9000m...
eddys:
Ive been using different batteries orig/non-orig on and off, although since ive noticed it hurts performance i stopped doing that, do you suggest that this might be the cause of the problem?
If so, the factory wipe i just did (formatted the internal SD card) should do the trick.
try reading this it helped me since i turn the wi fi off when i go out

Are you guys experiencing turn-off issue while phone is in the locked state. I mean you locked the screen and then after a while when you picked it up for unlocking it was powered off. If anyone has this issue, then I found a solution. Just let me know
my turning off issue went back and it's getting every time more annoying, I don't know what to do...
Hi everyone,
I have encountered a really annoying issue with my HTC One. It is a completely new replacement unit, and ever since I started using it I've had problems with the reception. In the beginning it only lost reception for a short while, and then regained it. Now however, the loss of reception is almost always followed by an immediate reboot, and after this reboot the phone often will not allow me to enter any pin at all. It will just show a "no reception" symbol in the status bar and subsequently reboot again after a minute or so. This boot loop continues until the phone actually allows me to input the pin again, after this the phone will work fine for awhile until this looping business starts anew.
I've actually tried a whole lot of different roms and radio versions in order to try to solve this issue, but to no avail. I've also used an RUU to reset my phones firmware from the very beginning, but the problem still remains. I've also tried to swap sim cards, no luck with that either.
I've tried to check the logs after these reboots, and the only things that seem to have anything to do with this are the lines: "failure to start external modem" and "MDM common shutdown".
Am I out of luck here? Is there anything I can do in order to try to fix this myself?
I'm afraid that if I hand it in for repairs the shop won't actually experience anything wrong with it, since this happens so randomly, and just send it back to me with a service fee.
Help is much appreciated!
Anyone? I've made a logcat log of the error tagged-messages that occurs right before a restart:

Bump.
Hi guys,
Earlier i found out that my sim card was the one responsible for the sudden reboots of my Xperia T. Does anybody know how to fix this? I am currently on stock JB 4.3 with locked boot loader.
Thanks for the help
Hi there,
I would like to post my 2 cents here too, cause this is bug or whatever it is so annoying that I want to smash my Xperia against the wall.
It started shortly after I upgraded my Xperia T to 4.3 (.295). First I thought it is caused by wrong USIM placement, but even if I pull it out and follow the click to be sure it is placed properly, reboots appear from time to time. I was trying to track the source of this with "standard" steps like factory reset, installing apps and do settings without using Backup&Restore app, testing another USIM however without success, using phone with/without microSD card. I even upgraded to latest bugfixing .199 today but those damn reboots persists.
Maybe these observations will help to solve this issue:
- reboots appear usually after using apps using internet connection (mostly local news, gmail, Chrome etc) and, whats interesting, when screen is off
- mostly when on HSPA, not wi-fi
- when I play music, using PowerAmp, not tested on other mainly because I have no other installed
- sometimes after the call
- once or twice it happened when unlocking the phone
- reboots stops only if battery is totally drained or if I notice smell of the the burning flesh of my thigh and I put my screen on/or reinsert USIM.
I will observe more, but Im loosing patience
There were no reboots when on stock 4.1.2 with locked bootloader with root. I also had to turn off SIM card lock, because I need to be reachable. I like this phone, 4.3 is nicely done but this is driving me mad. I consider to downgrade and visit my local vendor, but beforehand I decided to ask community.
Sorry if this is discussed somewhere else here, I just spotted this post and added my POW. Thanks for your help
it may related to the battery

mine was the opposite, reboots all the time when tethering unless I kept the phone on charge on stock 4.1.2. now on 4.3 and only had two reboots after heavy usage, but the phone wasn't on charge and was hot.
Looks like the reboots are caused by handover between 2G and 3G networks. I have set my T to stick on the 3G only and reboots have disappeared. Two days without single reboot
However I have found strange dots on the display recently, like some layer of the display is too thin and light is bit brighter in these parts, so I need to pay a visit to my vendor anyway.
Theme
Hello. I updated to 4.3 rooted ROM, and always restarted and I cant start the phone when is SIM in. Tried reinstall via CWM, nothing helped. And... yes.. maybe installed programs caused this boot loop, try install step by step program to program and succes. I found Woody theme. When I setup this theme, phone cant process Sim pin code section at start. Deleted theme helped me, and now work fine Darklord Rom
Well, I have finally isolated issue and it is not related to cellular handovers. Reboots are caused by faulty mechanism holding SIM card in place. Despite I hear and feel obvious "click" indicating SIM card is in place and mounted, it is not. After undefined time SIM card gets loosed and you can take it out very easily. Not sure if this is just me or it is a construction issue, but I saw too many posts regarding reboots. Time to check guts of your Xperia folks..

This reboot issue start happening to me just last night, no Wi-Fi no 3G, just using "UBreader" (reading a ebook, obviously ) before sleep... it reboots 3 times within an hour calling for "sim/usim card removed"... After third reboot, I open the card holder and removed SDcard, nothing happen, then I remove the sim card and did it again [the reboot] this time on porpuse, so... yeah, I think what @daemin says is true, the mechanism for holding sim card gets loose after a while... sad but true...
Maybe, when holding the phone, we press to hard on that side without noticing and that cause the problem, I don't know... but this morning I check at running apps and all or mostly all say 7 hours "running" so I think phone didn't reboot after I left it there for sleep... who knows...
Hi guys since yesterday I have problems with my phone
the phone suddenly freezes over without being able to interact.
it restarts on its own but without ever starting the operating system in fact it shuts down and does not turn on again as if the phone had died.
the really strange thing is that the phone was fine Then suddenly he started making this mess.
Yesterday after so many hours of problems I managed to start the phone and now it works well but I am afraid that the situation will repeat itself.
the phone has the bootloader unlocked has root permissions, I followed the guides on this site.
But I have had this phone for two months now and these problems never occurred.
where can i start to understand what the problem is?
Mine suddently become all white, with the interface cut in half and moved up. i could do nothing. nor reboot nor shutdown.
after some minutes it turned back normal. i hope its color os bug and realme will fix it
It appears to be a firmware problem. We hope well.
Today did not give problems. This behavior is really strange, what can I install to understand the root of the problem?
I noticed that if the phone never goes into deep sleep mode the problem does not occur.
Now I am registering the log and as soon as the problem occurs again I go into detail to find out the real reason.
I'm trying to create an automatic script that is launched on the boot that practically never makes the phone sleep.
i'm really desperate the phone started to reboot itself.
I would like to try using a system log recorder but I realized that when I restart the phone these logs are not saved so it is impossible for me to verify the reason.
Can any of you help me out?
the phone freezes and then restarts.
Did you achieve any solution ?
No. I'm disperate.
Why don't you flash stock fw /recovery? Just to make sure it isn't an Hardware problem ?
I try but have this problem

The problem appears only when you use data connection right?
If you try to switch off data and use wifi , you will not notice
The problem is because of the the operator, try another sim provider
Yes, in fact, that could be the problem because a few months ago removing the SIM card the phone did not give more problems
maybe you gave me the solution. I'll try

I am now testing the LINEAGE it happened to me this I removed the SIM card and I installed the costum Rom, I made the various customizations and the phone never locked OR restarted.
I inserted the SIM card in the phone worked perfectly, then having messed up with luckypatcher I had to reinstall the Rom.
So I performed the same procedure with the SIM card inserted in the phone and already at the first start it was unstable with reboots.
Currently I have applied for a change of sim card.
As soon as it arrives I will try to remove the sim card Install from scratch The system is to insert the new SIM card only so I can have the mathematical certainty that it is the SIM card
I hope my experience can help someone
This problem seems true, my X2 Pro also faced same issue when enabling cellular data. The phone sometimes loses the signal or the app freezes and perform a phone reboot. X2 Pro is a mid-range flagship phone, and yet this problem should be solved before they start to sell the phone.
Yes this device has many software problems but hardware problems of this kind are not acceptable.
Practically mine has become unusable, as soon as I turn it on after a few minutes of use it start closing the apps by itself.
Then after AN intende use of 30 minutes it start to restart.
This phone is truly incredible
