I am running stock KB1 with injected voodoo lagfix. I am tring to disable the 1900 band and use only the 850 band because I lose service in my area when my phone switches to 1900. This happens every few minutes. right now im using the stock modem that came with KB1 and when I try to enter band selection in the service menu I get a this option is restricted error. Are any of the other modems compatible with KB1 that will bypass this restriction?
Thanks

Well i just Flashed the UCJI6 modem and it seems to work with KB1 but the band selection is still restricted. Any help would be apreciated.
if you want a good selection of modems you can flash a i9000 reoriented kernel and that will allow you to use i9000 modems ( of which there are many good ones) and still use your current rom.
i've not used stock ROM so look into which kernel is best. read lots and lots.

Hi!
On one thread I read the JPP is only European then on the other it says European and US so has anyone used JPP on the USA without issues? It was rated highest in the thread that listed it as USA so I am hoping it works.

depends on the service coverage in your area. if your area is mostly all 1900, then you shouldnt have any problems with it
Jpp will work but you have to follow certain steps that noone can fully explain why it works.
Flash to stock
Flash jg8 modem
Flash jpp or jpm
These modems have support for 850 but for wherever reason it is only enabled by flashing the magical jg8 modem first.
Prior to the latest modems, this is what we had to do in order to use i9000 roms when 850 was needed.
After flashing the jg8 modem, allow the phone to boot and obtain a signal, them put the jpp modem in the rom zip in place of the modem.bin that is present. All these modems can be found in the modem thread which I am sure you know of.
Yeah I recall that process before. It seems that at home I dont use 850 but if I am at work I need it. So I cannot just flash JG8 with my current ROM and then JPP I need to go to stock? What stock is this cause stock would be Eclair so not quite sure here
Noone knows why this works but it is the only method that is proven. I don't believe flashing the modem over your current setup will work but you can give it a shot.
Hey Guys,
I had flashed 2.3.3 JVK Gingerbread to my Canadian Bell Samsung i9000m. Since the flash my cellular signal is extremely poor. Getting 0-1 bar in places I would normally get 4-full on Froyo. With JVK the phone is extremely fast, email app has stopped constantly force closing and for the first time, gps works great! This is why I didn't just want to flash back to Froyo to fix the cell signal issue. I had been told by a member here to ensure that [8]WCDMA 850(FDD V)[*] in the band settings had a star in it. It did not, I had selected it and rebooted, star is now there with no change in signal strength.... So this is my question, am I going to have to flash back to froyo to fix this and once again live without GPS? Or is there a work-around or setting to fix signal strength. ANY help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance..
INFO
NA Bell i9000m Vibrant
Flashed to 2.3.3 JVK Gingerbread with Odin with new Bootloaders, no PIT/Repartition.
EVERYTHING else works perfect, except cellphone signal.
**FIXED**
Flashed the KC1 (Bell Canada Update) modem.bin via odin. I now get full signal (84dB) where I had previosly had none. (2.3.3. Modem). Gps working great. Phone still fast as hell.
Also just a follow up, I tried the JL2 modem first but gps failed to lock. Thanks for the advice though the 850mhz was the key!
No no no! Its just your modem, you can flash any modem toy like!
Go for jl2 as it is 850mhz by default.
Just find the jl2 modem. If its a zip then extract modem.bin and place in the pda section of odin. Flash away! If its a .tar file just put this straight in.

thanks for the quick reply. So the modem type has nothing to do with gps?? Also, how safe is it to flash the modem from another firmware? thanks again for all the help dude.. I apologize in advance for any truly stupid questions haha..

Yes you can use any froyo modem.
As for gps... I hear conflicting reports about that. Jl2 tho has great gps from reports.
I found jvk modem to drain heaps standby. Im guessing that without 850mhz band your phone is using a fallback band with worse reception. Ll2 should sort this out

So is the JL2 from 2.2.1?, as with the 2.2 Froyo, my gps was not just being slow, but not functioning at all (0 Locked sat's).
Also, where would I obtain this modem file, and how is it flashed. I ran a search and noticed that some member state it goes into the PDA field in ODIN and other stating it goes into the PHONE field. Also, I have not modified the bootloader,(Stock came with 2.3.3) and I am unsure weather it could be flashed using the update method. As this is my work phone, I need to be sure I will not brick it. Once again, sorry for all the questions, the help is GREATLY appreciated.
**EDIT**
Also, when going into the *#2263#, the 850 Band is listed in both the GSM and CDMA areas, both with a corresponding star in the box beside them. Not sure if this means the band is actually there or not. One thing I am sure of is the fact that with FROYO my signal was perfect, with GPS non existant and phone generally SLOW, with 2.3.3 EVERYTHING is working great with the exception of the cell signal strength. Speed is incredible.
Ah glad to hear you sorted it out! Being half canadian myself I was glad I helped.

I Can not accept an incoming call on Samsung Galaxy S
I just recently upgraded my phone to Gingerbread, since then i have been having problem to receive an Incoming calls
when I have an incoming call, the phone does not ring or, vibrate or even show the incoming call screen. the only thing I can see is the little icon next to 3G icon on the top of the screen showing there is an incoming call and the screen will be blank. non either call accept or reject page will show instead it will show blank page and the network bar will be lost.
so I can get messages. I can dial out without a problem.
I am using Samsung Galaxy S
Can some one help me
I want to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy s Vibrant BELL to Gingerbread 2.3.4
Can some one help me,
I want to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy s Vibrant BELL to Gingerbread 2.3.4
I need instruction and right tools to download for upgrading
I need instruction and right tools to root my phone
I need instruction and right tools to flash my phone.
I rooted and installed serendipity rom and wanted to flash modem ....Is it safe to flash any modem spicifically this modem_cwm3_ugjl2 just making sure before I do and I don't want to mess anything up thanks
I checked this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391 but Am really not sure which modem is safe?? for my galaxy s captivate atat phone
LOL trying to get to 10 posts so I can post in the modem forum LOL
for that rom, since it is i9000 based, you can safely flash that modem, assuming you have CWM 3 installed and not 2
You can safely flash any modem, there is absolutely 0 chance of permanently damaging anything.
The only issue you could have is if you are on an based I9000 rom and flash an i897 modem, or vice versa, there will be sound quality issues.
So as long as its I9k to I9k, and I897 to I897 it's fine.
I would like to enable WCDMA 900 Mhz (and no longer use 850 Mhz). The Infineon baseband IC is capable of 850 or 900, but not simultaneously, however I can't determine if a "modem" can actually re-program the IC for 900 Mhz?
If anyone has any advice or pointers I'd be most appreciative.
I could install any ROM/modem combination in order to enable WCDMA 900 Mhz.
I am currently running Paragon RC6, a 2.2.1 custom ROM, with I9000UGJK4, which has 850/1900/2100.
I have a SGS GT I9000 from australia, and I am trying to use it in the US for AT&T. I have rooted on JVR (via CFROOT v4.1) and tried using modem binaries for KC1, JL2 and KG3, all seem to find minimal signal when I am in the street.
I have manually unlocked the sim settings using adb. I have enabled the 850 mhz band in the settings and have seen the *#0011# showing gsm on 850 mhz.
Frankly I am lost now because I have no idea what could be causing the issue anymore. The sim works fine in my other phone, if anyone can shed some ideas I would much appreciate it.
Matt
I have a I9000 with icyglitch kernel and extrodinary firmware both current versions. The base band us xjvu. I get poor reception with it. Been trying to put a different modem in by installing the modem zip from the recovery menu. It says installed but when I go back to phone nothing has changed. Is there a special way to do this on the I9000's
Thanks

make sure usb is unplugged when you flash through CWM, clear cache and dalvik before/after/both?
after testing ive found i have the same problem, trying to flash modems through CMW is unresponsive, baseband stays the same in settings-about. ive had success flashing new modems through heimdall, i cant use odin, it doesn't ever work for me.
You should just download modems from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158783
Then put them in root folder of phone, restart phone in recovery, flash from zip, select the modem and that's it.

JW4 for T-Mobile USA? I want 3g, so i must enable 850 through servicemode, but on any modem i try it doesn't want to give me 3g i follow this
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-enable-850mhz-on-any-modem.3334/
in *#0011# my band is either GSM 1900 or no service, i am unable to get my radio to respond to the 850 band
So i just bought this GT-i9000 international GT-I9000GSMH flashed it with CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip. Ran servicemode *#*#197328640#*#*, enabled all bands, then installed Mintberry-2.3.17 through CMW, then i tried different modems KC1, JVU, JVP, JVQ, JJPG, UGJL2, and the new nexus ones, kb3 kf1, NO LUCK with enabling 3G on my T-Mobile USA phone, can anyone help me, am i using the wrong rom? i like mintberry, any help greatly appriciated, ive been searching the forums with no avail, should i just stick with stock rom, maybe a stock+?

Guides I am following:

https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1022rpBQPDZvU0MAa0u6Nuvg3D9TGXrCIxlV8mDjN6us&pli=1
SSN: -I9000GSMH
I was told it is the international edition of the GT-I9000
I am unsure what firmware I started on, i think it was a JVT? I'm unsure, but that doesn't really matter, i used Heimdall, because Odin ALWAYS stops either at Initialization... or Setup Connection..., to flash JVU, then reverted to old USB drivers and used odin to install CF-ROOT JVU(works fine just to flash kernal), so my phone was rooted, i then installed mintberry through CMW AND GOT VERY COMFORTABLE WITH IT, then realized mintberry would not allow me to go into servicemode which would HOPEFULLY get me on T-Mobiles 3G network
So im reading the guide for the modem dance and it asks me to be on UGJL2, TLJL3, UGJK3, UGJK4, modem? firmware? WHAT? i go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ and try to download ANY of the listed firmwares, oh they are all on multiupload links, and they barred themselves from USA ISPs, so i cant download the firmwares, ive searched google, found an unuseable encrypted .rar, woo-hoo... but anyways, i downloaded the appropriate modems, used heimdall to revert back to the "oldest" firmware i can download... JVU (DUMB!!!!!), install cf-root with odin, go to servicemode and enable ONLY WCDMA 850, NO OTHERS ARE STARRED, reboot, *#0011# and it says im on the 1900 band, WTF, i try to install UGJL2, TLJL3, UGJK3, UGJK4 modems through CMW, USB cable NOT plugged in, same results. So I've failed on the 2nd step of the guide...how, i doubt its user error.

So i was able to get heimdall to work by reinstalling the drivers, unplugging usb, and removing the battery for a couple min. and i installed JVU, which i seem to have to default on...now I tried the supplied passwords on sammobile on the encrypted .rar for UGJL2, a us firmware, and one worked! but when i try to flash with odin, its an odin package, i suppose i could load through heimdall, but anyways when i try to flash with odin it fails, as does the other file UGKC1, I9000UGKC1_homebinary.tar, and I9000UGJL2_homebinary_add_param.tar, so is it impossible to revert back? i should be able to do it, maybe i'll repackage these odin files for heimdall...
if i repackage for heimdall im missing boot.bin dbdata.rfs 512.pit and firmware.xml, should i pull these from the heim jvu package i have? merge them with the KG3 files, try installing through heimdall... would that be safe since odin seems to always fail on me?
