I have a I9000 with icyglitch kernel and extrodinary firmware both current versions. The base band us xjvu. I get poor reception with it. Been trying to put a different modem in by installing the modem zip from the recovery menu. It says installed but when I go back to phone nothing has changed. Is there a special way to do this on the I9000's
Thanks

make sure usb is unplugged when you flash through CWM, clear cache and dalvik before/after/both?
after testing ive found i have the same problem, trying to flash modems through CMW is unresponsive, baseband stays the same in settings-about. ive had success flashing new modems through heimdall, i cant use odin, it doesn't ever work for me.
You should just download modems from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158783
Then put them in root folder of phone, restart phone in recovery, flash from zip, select the modem and that's it.

JW4 for T-Mobile USA? I want 3g, so i must enable 850 through servicemode, but on any modem i try it doesn't want to give me 3g i follow this
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-enable-850mhz-on-any-modem.3334/
in *#0011# my band is either GSM 1900 or no service, i am unable to get my radio to respond to the 850 band
So i just bought this GT-i9000 international GT-I9000GSMH flashed it with CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip. Ran servicemode *#*#197328640#*#*, enabled all bands, then installed Mintberry-2.3.17 through CMW, then i tried different modems KC1, JVU, JVP, JVQ, JJPG, UGJL2, and the new nexus ones, kb3 kf1, NO LUCK with enabling 3G on my T-Mobile USA phone, can anyone help me, am i using the wrong rom? i like mintberry, any help greatly appriciated, ive been searching the forums with no avail, should i just stick with stock rom, maybe a stock+?

THIS IS FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE ENTERED THE APN SETTINGS AND CANNOT ACTUALLY CONNECT TO THE 850MHZ BAND
WARNING: FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE WILL WIPE ALL DATA YOUR PHONE (minus the SD Cards)
Flash back to UGJG8 available on samfirmware.com. (Odin 3 + 512 pit)
Open the dialer and enter *#272*xxxx#
The above x's are the current time. So for 2:15pm, you would enter 0215.
Select BMC and then Install.
Wait till the phone reboots.
Your radio should now have the 850mhz band working again.
Feel free to flash back to UGJH2 again.
Just want to add, as long as you flash JUST the code in ODIN you should never lose 850Mhz again after doing this.
Would be nice if we could extract the CSC from the rom and never have to worry about downgrading again if we mess up.
Bumping this as it seems there are still people with the issue...

What is the best way to verify that the phone has lost 850 MHz?
Where does one find the APN settings and where are they entered?
I don't have this issue myself, but it would be very nice if this was a bigger single reference.
EDIT: I missed this, APN settings are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769400
And does Bell use only 850 MHz for 3G?
Not sure if they ONLY use 850MHZ. When I had the issue I had perfect coverage in the city center. But absolutely none on the outskirts where I live. I couldn't even connect to the network for data calls. After a few hours of messing with it to get it back, I tried what's in my original post and thankfully it worked.

In my experience all you have to do is flash any Bell 2.1 rom again via ODIN to restore your America/Aussie radio, I suggest JH2 instead as the OS and Radio are both newer in that build. You can flash whatever 2.1 ROM you want as long as you don't go to a 2.2 radio you will be fine. I know because this was the first thing I did, and basically one of the big reasons I bought this model, so I can flash away all like a regular i9000m just keeping my bell radio. I'm on AT&T and I get HSPDA/HSPUA 24/7.
You can do this on HTC devices, as they usually just release radios by themself to flash alone via stock recovery/clockwork/whatever. So I was glad to see Samsung didn't jack that around and make one rom use a specific radio only. That would have sucked hard, as you can get better service with others.

Myself, and a couple of other people have had the issue where flashing back to UGJH2 simply does not restore the 850MHZ band, hence this thread. I flashed the new HK JP2 and it worked fine. However, I completely lost connectivity to the 850MHZ band. I flashed back to UGJH2, which did not fix it, went back to the new JP2 again, still nothing. After hours of torture, I finally tried the CSC method in UGJG8 and it worked. 850MHZ restored!
Obviously, you've never had the issue where you've had to use this tutorial. When using UGJH2, which I currently am, you cannot use the *#272*xxxx# code. It simply does not work. However, it does work in UGJG8, and lets you select the BMC CSC which is what fixes the problem.
I do however agree that we should always go with the most recent radio, which is why I went back to UGJH2 after fixing my issue in UGJG8.
I def lost 850 mhz band, i flashed to the new Froyo JPC for a few days and it was a disaster, flashed back to UGJ8 now, and installed BMC, looks good
but one thing bothered me, when I put in the code, above the BMC

Is that normal, or has JPC transformed my phone to a Korean Model permanently (can this be fixed), and what are the effects of this, will I be able to receive the OTA and flash froyo when its out normally?
Thanks

You need the whole rom, CSC and PDA to be able to activate the CSC. Modem shouldn't matter, but I did flash it as well as everything was packaged in a single .tar file for me,
Is it possible to go to XWJM8 without flashing the modem? Or, is there another compatible Bell modem that can be used instead?
I flashed the XXJM4 modem and I'm pretty sure I lost 850MHz.

XWJM8 CODE and XXJM4 MODEM work but not properly: they don't let you use 850MHz. I think that on Bell we need to use a UG MODEM.
Maybe Richtofen could split out the MODEM as well as the CSC.

depends on the service coverage in your area. if your area is mostly all 1900, then you shouldnt have any problems with it
Jpp will work but you have to follow certain steps that noone can fully explain why it works.
Flash to stock
Flash jg8 modem
Flash jpp or jpm
These modems have support for 850 but for wherever reason it is only enabled by flashing the magical jg8 modem first.
Prior to the latest modems, this is what we had to do in order to use i9000 roms when 850 was needed.
After flashing the jg8 modem, allow the phone to boot and obtain a signal, them put the jpp modem in the rom zip in place of the modem.bin that is present. All these modems can be found in the modem thread which I am sure you know of.
Yeah I recall that process before. It seems that at home I dont use 850 but if I am at work I need it. So I cannot just flash JG8 with my current ROM and then JPP I need to go to stock? What stock is this cause stock would be Eclair so not quite sure here
Noone knows why this works but it is the only method that is proven. I don't believe flashing the modem over your current setup will work but you can give it a shot.
Hi,
I'm under the impression that the radio is different from the modem, therefore my previous efforts to fix a problem with the auto-connection to HSDPA/3G were somewhat in vein. If I am correct in this, it could be the reason that my "phone information" settings won't stick (revert to default) and my phone, once connected to EDGE, will not automatically reconnect to HSDPA/3G.
Would someone be so kind as to point me in the direction of CWM-flashable radios? If needed, I am on the AT&T network (U.S.) with the international GT-I9000. ROM and kernel are in the signature, modem is JPY but flashing to the U.S. modem made no difference.
Thank you for your help or even your attention on the matter. I plan to write this up as a tutorial for this very problem should this solve the issue which I believe it will.
All the information you need is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9579987&postcount=11945
It's telling me it's a bad link. I'll try to receive it through search and post the link if I get it.
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9579987&postcount=11945
I flashed JPP to see if that can fix the issue as it's compatible with the U.S. I'll edit again once I go outside in order to see if it auto connects to HSDPA once I'm out there. It's a good test IMHO as I only have the 1900mhz band of wcdma therefore it doesn't penetrate the walls of my place of work.
edited the post above to fix the URL
I went out and checked. It still requires me to go into wcdma only and then back to wcdma/gsm in order to get hsdpa, also, the changes in phone information still don't stick. I need the actual radio file in a CWM flashable zip. Also, after changing modems to JPP, speed test doesn't work. I'll just uninstall from the market and re-install since the data connection is still works and see if there is any improvement on that front.
Which one is the radio file as opposed to modem file .
jje
EDIT: It's in the modem but not included with the modem as far as I know. Specifically, I need to flash a new Radio Image zip file. I found some through cyanogenmod but I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to use those as they may only be working with cyanogenmod ROMs.
Modems and CSC files flash from an update zip via the rom kitchin .

I edited the post. Those modems don't contain an updated radio image or any radio image, i think. It's more a matter of finding the right radio image file to flash.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940095 It's midway through the first post. I'm not sure if I should flash it with Darky's ROM or not since it's cyanogenmod but I think as long as I switch to the JPY modem it should be fine.
Interesting.... I did some reading on the kitchen modems and apparently they flash a new radio image in the modem where others don't. I looked at my status through "about phone" and my IMEI SV changed from 01 to 02. When I get back outside to where I know I have HSDPA access, I will report on whether this fixes the lack of auto connect to HSDPA from EDGE.
There is no such thing as a radio for galaxy s devices, that is a htc phone term.
Instead, we have modems. The issue you're talking about is probably rom related.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
So, you're saying a re-flash of the ROM then.... I think I've had this issue since Darky's 9.2 and I've flashed through the betas and I'm on 9.3 stable now. I have also done a wipe but not a repartition in Odin. I think Odin is a cleaner install then CWM but it's just so convenient to flash right from the phone. I guess I'll do that then.
Thanks.

Well i just Flashed the UCJI6 modem and it seems to work with KB1 but the band selection is still restricted. Any help would be apreciated.
if you want a good selection of modems you can flash a i9000 reoriented kernel and that will allow you to use i9000 modems ( of which there are many good ones) and still use your current rom.
i've not used stock ROM so look into which kernel is best. read lots and lots.
