I was told it is the international edition of the GT-I9000
I am unsure what firmware I started on, i think it was a JVT? I'm unsure, but that doesn't really matter, i used Heimdall, because Odin ALWAYS stops either at Initialization... or Setup Connection..., to flash JVU, then reverted to old USB drivers and used odin to install CF-ROOT JVU(works fine just to flash kernal), so my phone was rooted, i then installed mintberry through CMW AND GOT VERY COMFORTABLE WITH IT, then realized mintberry would not allow me to go into servicemode which would HOPEFULLY get me on T-Mobiles 3G network
So im reading the guide for the modem dance and it asks me to be on UGJL2, TLJL3, UGJK3, UGJK4, modem? firmware? WHAT? i go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ and try to download ANY of the listed firmwares, oh they are all on multiupload links, and they barred themselves from USA ISPs, so i cant download the firmwares, ive searched google, found an unuseable encrypted .rar, woo-hoo... but anyways, i downloaded the appropriate modems, used heimdall to revert back to the "oldest" firmware i can download... JVU (DUMB!!!!!), install cf-root with odin, go to servicemode and enable ONLY WCDMA 850, NO OTHERS ARE STARRED, reboot, *#0011# and it says im on the 1900 band, WTF, i try to install UGJL2, TLJL3, UGJK3, UGJK4 modems through CMW, USB cable NOT plugged in, same results. So I've failed on the 2nd step of the guide...how, i doubt its user error. $*$&#&@#&@ CURSES!!!!! i just tried to follow gamerz-roms guide to flashing his rom, BTW he provides link to mutliupload to d/l JVU, VERY UNIVERSAL, but odin screwed up when i try to install sephamore 2.5, why does odin always screw up? why doesn't anyone update their links? why cant i enable 3g on t-mobile? is there a rom that has WCDMA 850 enabled by default? i could flash my own modem through heimdall, but none seem 850 defaulted, right now im HATEHATING my phone, very frustrated, help me please
Im now trying to install JVU through heimdall, BECAUSE ODIN SUCKS! i replaced the modem file in the JVU package with the modem file in captivate-ugjk3-cwm3.zip...so i guess i'll see what happens
Well it worked once, then i tried again, but with sephamore kernal as replacement, now i get:
Handshaking with Loke...
ERROR: Failed to receive response!
Now what...
So i was able to get heimdall to work by reinstalling the drivers, unplugging usb, and removing the battery for a couple min. and i installed JVU, which i seem to have to default on...now I tried the supplied passwords on sammobile on the encrypted .rar for UGJL2, a us firmware, and one worked! but when i try to flash with odin, its an odin package, i suppose i could load through heimdall, but anyways when i try to flash with odin it fails, as does the other file UGKC1, I9000UGKC1_homebinary.tar, and I9000UGJL2_homebinary_add_param.tar, so is it impossible to revert back? i should be able to do it, maybe i'll repackage these odin files for heimdall...
if i repackage for heimdall im missing boot.bin dbdata.rfs 512.pit and firmware.xml, should i pull these from the heim jvu package i have? merge them with the KG3 files, try installing through heimdall... would that be safe since odin seems to always fail on me?

So this is my previous thread question:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982478
Basically I'm stuck on i9000XXJP1 and I cannot find a rom to flash to next, or the instructions on how to flash to the next rom. I do have Odin and the 512 pit file, but a lot of roms seem to send my phone into oblivion.
Here is the list or ROMS i've tried after being in XXJP1:
BUJS3
UGJG8
XXJPC
BVJJPD
UGJH2
UGJK3
XXJP2
UGJL2
I used these roms with Odin starting from XXJP1. If anyone knows how I'm supposed to go about this, please let me know. My phone is modemless right now. I can only use Wi-Fi and not my 3G...
PLEASE HELP!!!!
Have you added the csc or your 3g settings in Wirelees and network / mobile networks / Acces Point Names / ?

Try flashing back to JM1 and then back to what you prefer.
Enjoy your SGS.
If you have Wifi than your modem works , you don't have the apn settings set
You can always build your own in the rom kitchin choose your modem and CSC files .

OmerX: How would I go about setting up the APN? I go into the setting and theres nothing there. it's just blank. I have the option to create a new one, but how would I go about getting the information to create the access point?
Do I have to call my service provider?
MAKFOTO: where can I get JM1? and when I get it, do I use odin with 512 pit? repartition checked or unchecked?
sorry about the questions, this is just really frustrating after 2 days of not being able to use my phone properly and I don't want to mess it up.
Hi,
I'm under the impression that the radio is different from the modem, therefore my previous efforts to fix a problem with the auto-connection to HSDPA/3G were somewhat in vein. If I am correct in this, it could be the reason that my "phone information" settings won't stick (revert to default) and my phone, once connected to EDGE, will not automatically reconnect to HSDPA/3G.
Would someone be so kind as to point me in the direction of CWM-flashable radios? If needed, I am on the AT&T network (U.S.) with the international GT-I9000. ROM and kernel are in the signature, modem is JPY but flashing to the U.S. modem made no difference.
Thank you for your help or even your attention on the matter. I plan to write this up as a tutorial for this very problem should this solve the issue which I believe it will.
All the information you need is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9579987&postcount=11945
It's telling me it's a bad link. I'll try to receive it through search and post the link if I get it.
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9579987&postcount=11945
I flashed JPP to see if that can fix the issue as it's compatible with the U.S. I'll edit again once I go outside in order to see if it auto connects to HSDPA once I'm out there. It's a good test IMHO as I only have the 1900mhz band of wcdma therefore it doesn't penetrate the walls of my place of work.
edited the post above to fix the URL
I went out and checked. It still requires me to go into wcdma only and then back to wcdma/gsm in order to get hsdpa, also, the changes in phone information still don't stick. I need the actual radio file in a CWM flashable zip. Also, after changing modems to JPP, speed test doesn't work. I'll just uninstall from the market and re-install since the data connection is still works and see if there is any improvement on that front.
Which one is the radio file as opposed to modem file .
jje
EDIT: It's in the modem but not included with the modem as far as I know. Specifically, I need to flash a new Radio Image zip file. I found some through cyanogenmod but I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to use those as they may only be working with cyanogenmod ROMs.
Modems and CSC files flash from an update zip via the rom kitchin .

I edited the post. Those modems don't contain an updated radio image or any radio image, i think. It's more a matter of finding the right radio image file to flash.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940095 It's midway through the first post. I'm not sure if I should flash it with Darky's ROM or not since it's cyanogenmod but I think as long as I switch to the JPY modem it should be fine.
Interesting.... I did some reading on the kitchen modems and apparently they flash a new radio image in the modem where others don't. I looked at my status through "about phone" and my IMEI SV changed from 01 to 02. When I get back outside to where I know I have HSDPA access, I will report on whether this fixes the lack of auto connect to HSDPA from EDGE.
There is no such thing as a radio for galaxy s devices, that is a htc phone term.
Instead, we have modems. The issue you're talking about is probably rom related.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
So, you're saying a re-flash of the ROM then.... I think I've had this issue since Darky's 9.2 and I've flashed through the betas and I'm on 9.3 stable now. I have also done a wipe but not a repartition in Odin. I think Odin is a cleaner install then CWM but it's just so convenient to flash right from the phone. I guess I'll do that then.
Thanks.
hello.
I succesfully installed Simply Honey 3.5 revolution. The problem was when I booted my phone that it didn't recoqnised my SIM card. I have searched on these forums and found out that I need to flash my modem. I quote:
1) Why my SIM Card is not recognised?

So how do I know what modem I need to flash, and how do I do it?
System info:
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9000XXJVK
kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9000xwjvh root
Build number: Simply Honey
And I live in the netherlands.
hi there, first off i am not from asia and i have not tried simply honey, although coming from darky's rom which is also coming from a european baseband, i used to need to flash a different modem for asia region.
you will need to download a multi csc for europe which can be found on samfirmware
although that site needs you to register before you can download.
then using ODIN, which i assume you already used to flash youre simplyhoney
you can just flash that file you DL'd on the Modem
Sounds like your modem is corrumpt or you need to enable 850mhz or at least install amodem that has 850
I would just flash a modem... 2 ways you can do it.
1 - CWM3; Download a CWM3 modem, put in internal SD and install zip or
2 - Odin; Put the modem file only into the Phone section(Dont flash anything else)
Here is a modem thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9874879&postcount=1
fyi, I have North American phone with a european CSC.. I don't think CSC affects SIM reading... I may be wrong
I have a I9000 with icyglitch kernel and extrodinary firmware both current versions. The base band us xjvu. I get poor reception with it. Been trying to put a different modem in by installing the modem zip from the recovery menu. It says installed but when I go back to phone nothing has changed. Is there a special way to do this on the I9000's
Thanks

make sure usb is unplugged when you flash through CWM, clear cache and dalvik before/after/both?
after testing ive found i have the same problem, trying to flash modems through CMW is unresponsive, baseband stays the same in settings-about. ive had success flashing new modems through heimdall, i cant use odin, it doesn't ever work for me.
You should just download modems from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158783
Then put them in root folder of phone, restart phone in recovery, flash from zip, select the modem and that's it.

JW4 for T-Mobile USA? I want 3g, so i must enable 850 through servicemode, but on any modem i try it doesn't want to give me 3g i follow this
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-enable-850mhz-on-any-modem.3334/
in *#0011# my band is either GSM 1900 or no service, i am unable to get my radio to respond to the 850 band
So i just bought this GT-i9000 international GT-I9000GSMH flashed it with CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip. Ran servicemode *#*#197328640#*#*, enabled all bands, then installed Mintberry-2.3.17 through CMW, then i tried different modems KC1, JVU, JVP, JVQ, JJPG, UGJL2, and the new nexus ones, kb3 kf1, NO LUCK with enabling 3G on my T-Mobile USA phone, can anyone help me, am i using the wrong rom? i like mintberry, any help greatly appriciated, ive been searching the forums with no avail, should i just stick with stock rom, maybe a stock+?

do i need to flash my CSC? I know what modems are 850 enabled, i have one on my phone, 850 was enabled after i booted it from flashing modem with heimdall
i **00!!# and my band is gsm1900, and when i only WCMA 850 i get no service, ive looked at the aquisition order, which should i prioritize? GSM or UMTS? currently UMTS is, i suppose i'll give it an adjustment...
Hi all,
I've been searching around in XDA and Google for info but can't seems to find anything useful.
The I9000 that I'm using, doesn't support UMTS 850 (also known as Telstra NextG), which I thought can be enabled by replacing the Modem/Radio. So I looked around on how to do this.
I tried the keys to "enable" the 850 but doesn't work.
So my only option is to replace the modem/radio.
Anyone kind enough to show me what is the latest modem/radio that supports UMTS 850 by default for I9000 and how to replace them, eg. is it the "phone" and "CSC" file?
I'm noob but knows how to use odin. Just wanted to be sure on how to replace it properly.
Just to clarify as well on below as the info I'm getting is always patchy.
* Is the Radio/Modem from other models or similar models, are compatible with each other?
* Radio or Modem means the same?
* In Odin, PIT file is the partition information required when you are re-partitioning, is that right?
* In Odin, Bootloader is kernel file, is that rigtht?
* In Odin, PDA file is the firmware itself, is that right?
* In Odin, what PDA stands for?
* In Odin, Phone file is the Radio/Modem, is that right?
* In Odin, CSC is the location aka branded phone, is that right?
Apology for all the questions but noob needs information
My phone specs below
Model: GT-I9000
Android ver.: 4.0.4
Baseband: I9000XXJVK
Kernel: 3.0.8-g4dc1367pinky-ghost
ROM: MIUI-2.5.11
Cheers,
John
Some modems are compatible with other devices but not all.
*Radio/Modem are same things.
*Yes, PIT file is partionning info required in case of re-partitionning.
*Bootloader isn't kernel file, it's the thing who order the phone booting (get verification).
*In Odin, PDA is the kernel file.
*In Odin PHONE is the firmware himself.
*In Odin, the CSC square is the modem/radio file.
This questions can appear silly but it's the only way to learn, all masters passed by this path ^^.
To use your UMTS mode try this Modem and reply me results :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/17akbe0hgfxv4ua/radio-cm-7-ics-nexuss_captivate-uckf1-signed.zip
For me UGJL2 Or UGKG3, or if you have so much luck you can use TUMJP4(I didnt had success searching it), the first two are fine though. Google them and flash them with clockworkmod recovery.
