Custom Kernel - LG Optimus 2x

Custom Kernel built using the stock .config and the Korean source. Appears to work great.
Fun!

n00b question i know

a great step towards creating more custom kernels and maybe overclockable kernels?

G2x vs O2x?

What are the differences in rooting, roms, etc.? Can all directions be followed for the O2x to root the G2x and install custom ROMs?
The root should work fine, CWM needs to be updated, so don't use that

As said, rooting works as on the O2X. CWM Recovery shouldnt be flashed now, since the partition layout is different and Paul has to sort that out.
Installing O2X custom roms shouldnt work correctly since the G2X and O2X have different basebands. The custom rom has to support the used baseband by using the correct RIL. In time G2X custom roms will be released .

Im sure ive read somewhere that they are going to make the partition layout the same or something, so there wont be any need for seperate roms

They probably do need a seperate rom, because of the different baseband and most likely ril.

Cheers for correcting me! good point read that the roms need to support the baseband also! perhaps a rom could support multiple basebands?
I think O2x and g2x can share roms. The devs will just have to tweak a little to make it work on the other. Am i right or wrong?
Do you guys expect the vanilla Android rom from G2x to be released for the O2x as well?

If you would post benchmark results of O2X, I will post G2X results after I get it today or tomorrow (quadrant and linpack).
I get 2614 Quadrant score on completely stock rom
Please at the stock ROM, try to run second test immediately after first. I think you should take better results.

I got best at 2650 (some were slightly lower) with G2X.
Linpack really sucked - could not break 40 (had done better then that - into the upper 50's with MT4G - overclocked of course).
I got 2680 for my O2X on stock rom. Best record.

[Q] Init.d Is it working or not?

Hi.
As I am using customkernels for my o2x I am curious if anyone could help with how to check if all the various scripts in init.d works??
There have been released "swapping" for this phone in some roms due to its low ram. If anyone could explain the work of it as well as installing it for a noob like me I would appreciate it alot.
Thanks in advance and happy new year all of you. Thanks to all the devs making our phones and lives easier

It mainly depends on which ROM you use. I use Topogigi modded to 20M: it works. With Hell_97 roms it works also.
See in Spica's thread about RC11: he explains in a recent post how to install. With purely stock ROM it seems more tricky.
Right now i am at Gueste 2.1 where i believe swap would be possible, earlier GR5, fr19 and sometimes cm7. Prefer hp kernel and have been using powerpacks, all installed by the instructions. Have noticed diffences in kernelreleases but not hp pp. BB flashed as recommended with matching ril. How do i check if it actually works?
Happy new year

Required knowledge for building and mod Samsung GT-i9000 kernel

Hi, I would like to know what I have to learn in order to mod the stock kernel of GT-i9000, which last version (linux version 2.6.35) was written for the use in Gingerbread 2.3.6. My intention is to make it work in ICS or Jelly Bean Custom Roms, and then start tweaking and experimenting, but I need the basics first
I'm talking about knowledge specific to the kernel since I know how to make C programs and the structure of the android stack (Watched this someone? It's great!). Where I have to go? Websites specialized in the matter, ebooks to read, docs... By the moment I have downloaded and installed the CodeSourcery toolkit Samsung tells to install in the README file.
I expect to not completely brick my only sgs phone, but anyway I would like to know how to do it
EDIT: I edited a bit my question since I though it wasn't clear enough what I already know.
No one can help me? I don't expect to have the whole story, just to know what I have to learn :/ May be I'm not in the right subforum for this question. Full noob here at XDA xD

Yup but is not because I though there was no kernel. I know there are a lot, Devil's, Semaphore... I just want to do it by myself
No,Good work.:banghead:
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
If you want to create a kernel for ics/jb, you should start with the default kernel of CM9/CM10, as most kernels for ics/jb are based on it. Then you could compare it to Semaphore, devil, ..., to see what they do differently.

[Dev] [JB/ICS] OC Engine for 2.6.39 Kernel

I got time today a little while to observe OC possibility, and attempted. I was in hurry and these days I dont much have time these days so I've not tested what I've writtten, but theoretically it should work without issues:
OC Engine For LG Optimus 2x For 2.6.39.x Kernel
*It's written for 1.2Ghz but it's easy to ramp up to 1.4/1.5 by observing codes.
Devs feel free to use ,
and rippers dont rip codes to represent it as yours.

*See attached patch file
Wow thank you so much.....will have a look at it right away......

But as Topo said, OC is flaky currently. Anything more than 1.2 GHz make phone hang. Need to find where did NVIDIA implemented code for making CPU stuck as half frequency if its OCed.

bootloadr is not related with audio bug... and that will never be.
official leaked ics roms doesn't have audio bugs just because they are official p990 roms with the official p990 kernel from lg, i remind you that cm10 is using su660 kernel source, a not completely but strongly enough different phone.

[Also very important to me - I need something I can install hebrew on)
2.Does anybody know any JB based roms that have full hebrew support?

and I'm not so sure about it,any feedbacks for pros&cons for this ROM will be greatly appreciated. ]

Welcome!
That is a nice TW (stock samgsung software) based rom, with some tweaks and a diferent kernel you can make it really fast.
On the other hand, as you said you want it to look good I'd recommend you to use VengeanceNote TW, as it's MIUI over the TW base. It is fast. It is beautiful. I'm not sure about the hebrew support tough, you might want to head to the thread and ask there. The dev, Gerrett, is preetty nice and wil most definitely help you as much aas he can.
If you want to use an AOSP ( Google software ) I'd most definitely recommend you Asylum + NX Kernel. This is as fast as my note has ever been. Don't worry about everyone on the thread being crazy tough. Thay are nice after you get used to them
Anyway, good luck with your phone You'll love it

You're lucky then, I had FC on all ROMs i've used on my SGS
I've used VengeanceNote for a long time. It is very stable indeed. Only problem i could remember is that it had a duplicated root manager app, but if you opened the right one you would have no problem at all. I'm just waiting for a custom kernel to support it so i can jump back to it.
Never used Carbon Rom itself, but from what i've experienced with this all-in-one roms, they're not very stable.
I'd say if you're interested on AOSP Asylum is the way to go. It's really clean and fast. And if you don't like the all black look you can always install CM10 themes

Nop, you can use phlz for flashing, but Asylum will overwrite it with CM10 kernel. But i recommend flashing NX after you flashed the rom. It has OC support and GPU clock control. It makes things really smooth.
About the themes you can get them on play store or on some threads here on xda. A quick google search for "CM10 theme" will show you lots of results.

Ummm, actually no,my dad just recommended it to me he said PhilZ is one of the best kernels developers out there,
and that its very safe to use his recovery (maybe I didn't understand correctly but I heard there was a problem some time ago with
ICS kernels/wiping or something, and that this phone got bricked once because of that)
He also said speedmod is great, but I dunno that guy or his kernels lol.

Indeed he's a great dev, and he saved many of us from bricking our devices
On stock samsung kernels, there's a bug, that when you wipe your data partition on recovery it corrupt's the memory chip, rendering it useless. So if you are going to use stock roms on your phone, either don't wipe or stick to safe kernels.
On the other hand, the AOSP kernels don't show such behaviour and are generally safe. So if your going with Asylum, don't worry. You're safe.

No, unfortunatelly you can't add thos features on any AOSP rom. Neither those nor Snote and other TW apps.
VengeanceNote include them tough. Seems you have to make your choice
