First sorry, i'm using google translate fo 'sizzling'.
Today i heard some little sound comming from the nook bottom, i think it come from speaker, i'm not sure.
The sound is constant when screen is on. No sound when off. I can hear it from a distance of 10 or 20 centimeters.
I tried to reboot. No sizzling during boot (the screen is on..). It comes when lockscreen appeares.
I'm using custom froyo for emmc.3 , dalengrin oc kernel (02/25 if i remember). Wretched 0.1.2 theme.
Is it generic, do you have it with your different roms?
Have you tried using an app killer to make sure your games and media players are closed? Try killing everything to see if it goes away. I notice that when I am playing games such as Hungry Monstr or Angry Birds the nook hisses from the speaker.
I have this issue just after boot. No game or else launched..
It could be the sound of you CPU being cooked since you overclocked it.
Tryed to restore setcpu to 800 too :]
my NC doesn't sizzle but the charger sizzles all the time when it is not charging.

same as mine...
On all 4 nook colors I have had the charger has made that static hiss . The speaker on my nook makes a similar noise but I can only hear it when I have my ear right on the speaker.

capacitors... my laptop charger has a sizzling sound to it too when im not charging.
It's weird that it doesn't do this during the boot process no?
Maybe it comes from the OC Kernel that boost audio speaker and earphone..

Is there a way to disable the music player from starting up automatically when I plug a speaker/head phone into the 3.5mm plug? I don't know what the phone is doing, but I don't always want to play music when I plug in a speaker to the phone.
jchap2k
im also having that issue and also the slightest movement of the headphone jack makes the music player constantly skip songs and its very annoying. We need to find a fix for this.
This also happen on bluetooth as well. When i get in the car and phone connects to radio the media player starts as well. Sucks, i haven't figured out how to stop this media player from auto starting.
? What, your guys music players starts automatically when you plug in the headphones?
Mine doesnt, and I wish it did. lol
Had this problem as well. Was more noticable when JIT was enabled on CM5.0b2. Haven't noticed it on 5.0b3 with JIT off, but that doesn't mean it's fixed... very annoying. As a work around (which might be why I'm no longer noticing it) I created a playlist with a single, short sound effect as the only 'song' in the playlist. I never use the default music player, or any player for music on my phone for that matter, so this was a pretty simple one-time work around. I remember when we had a very similar, if not the same problem, on Cyanogen's G1 rom, and I had used this same workaround.

Mine did this on the stock ROM. Now I'm on CM5B3+highmem, and haven't noticed it yet.

I first noticed this problem on CM5B3. Happens any time I connect the phone to my speakers.
Weird, my Nexus doesn't do this. In fact I just added a feature (not released yet) to have it as an option! So, WTF?
I can't recall for sure, but I believe my phone did this when I had the stock rom on it. But since I started using Cyanogen's rom, I have yet to experience this.

I wonder why some experience this and some don't. Did you try twisting the plug around once plugged in? Plug movement seems to trigger it for me, but once it starts I can't get it to stop until I just unplug the phone from the speakers.
Mine is completely random, and to make things worse, it's doing it to Pandora as well. I'll run through my '6 skips' an hour in mere minutes, and on accident. Very, very annoying... It happens not only randomly, but sometimes when I pick up the phone, or touch the 3.5mm jack in any way, but not 'every time' I touch it... it's incredibly odd... I really hope it's not a hardware fault
Ive actually been wishing for that option on my Droid lol. Lucky!
Are you guys using the stock headset? i think it only does it when you do. If you use others, it doesnt?

Not using a headset at all. Just a 3.5mm->3.5mm jack in my car

Mine skips with a similar setup. Sometimes twisting the cable around in the jack helps. Still annoying.
I have seen this 'issue' reported on 3 other phones so far, the Tmobile Pulse (UK), Hero, G1, and now the Nexus One.
However the main thread i can think of was over at the MoDaCo forums, for the pulse.
http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile-pulse-pulse-modaco-com/301335/the-headphone-bug/
I have the same problem too. Gets real annoying when listing to an audiobook that's 10hrs long and it all of a sudden skips to the beginning. I think it has to do with how the headphone controls are implemented in hardware - shorting out the channels together or to ground - I lost my original headphones - and haven't wired up a pair to test. I think that "cheaper" headphone cables have less insulation between the channels which then shorts. I noticed this with a cheaper 1/8" to 1/8" adapter.. vs a sony gold plated one. (the channels were in separate insulation on the sony one). If there was only a way to turn off the headphone controls in the default media player, then it wouldn't happen... maybe i'll just remove it from the phone all together.
Anyone have the HTC SoundEnhancer app working on Mango?
I notice its not in the Marketplace with 7720.
Sent from my HD2 using Board Express
Well I can instal it but it doesn't work like in NoDo >_> I guess it's driver related.
Mine works much better with mango. It won't show up in marketplace unless you type it in the search toolbar, then it will pull up.
Sent from my King LEO using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
It actually works? I don't notice a difference and I am using Sennheiser headphones o_o
Yes I notice a difference just off of some cheap skullz headphones.
Not a huge difference, but enough to enhance the music.
What settings are you using? I tried Dolby, SRS and the equalizer...using Sennheiser headphones PX100.
This one puts the soundenhancer in the phone settings.

If I do that, the music becomes louder, nothing more. It doesnt change anything about the quality.

I'm running xron cm7 on my touchpad. I've noticed a few things about sounds that I wonder if it's just a fact of life or something that's fixable. 1-I can't seem to get sound to come from the headphone jack. If I plug something in, sound stops from the speakers but nothing comes out via the jack. 2-If I have an app that plays sounds even with the screen off, it gets this kind of high pitched squeal/feedback. This is happening with music apps and the AmbiSci sound apps. Are both of these facts of life on a touchpad running Android?
Do any ROMS currently allow the front facing camera to work?

Camera still does not work.
To get sound on earphones, plug them in before starting the app you want to listen to. That works for me.
The distorted sounds have been reported by many, I guess I'm lucky, I don't have that problem.

Thanks Chicle I'll try that out. Maybe it's a rom thing for the distorted sound. Which one are you using?

I'm using Cherry Kang, with kupdate kernel. Oc to 1.7 max and 384 min.
Sometimes I use the unofficial cyanogenmod nightlies, when cherry has not been updated for a while.
Unfortunately, the distorted sound has been reported on a bunch of different roms.
I use the nightlies, and before that Alpha2, and haven't had a problem with sound - I watch stuff with MXPlayer, listen to Spotify, and everything, with and without headphones, no problems at all. Currently on the 20120402 nightly, still working great for sound.
As for Camera, well, we gotta wait for HP to release the sources for it, unfortunately. It's not something that's fixable until then. If you need a camera, you gotta use WebOS.
Earphone trick worked great. The sound thing is odd. I didn't get the scratchy sounds when I would plug the headphones in, turn on the AmbiSci app, pull up a sound and then turn off the screen. If I do the same with just the speakers running though, scratchy sounds. Makes me think it could be more hardware related than software.
Well . . this is even weirder. I have the volume down a little low. If I raise up the volume, I hit a part where the squeal starts. That seems strange.
Today I plugged in my phone to my speakers to listen to music and its playing mostly on the speakers just fine. But every so often the sound comes out of the phone for a second instead of the speakers then goes back to the speakers. Is this just my phone dying after (almost) two years or is this some kind of bug? Anyone seen this before? I recently install AOIP with the whitescreen kernel.

OK, thanks! Good to know.
I had the same thoughts about my audio port crapping out on me. I bought an fm transmitter/ charger dock for my car so I can stream music over the web to my car stereo when i drive. however the music player stops randomly. this seems to be an issue for a number of people after looking through the webs about it.
not trying to hijack the thread (but i am) is this similar to what you experince? i dont think it is becuase my music -pauses-, it does not continue to play through the regular speaker.
It seems according to a few posts ive read, that a change in the data connection is what causes the music to stop. going from 4g -> 3g or what have you. and since i only have this issue when im trying to listen in the car, riding down the road, i can see a correlation. and its not just when playing streamed media, it will pause when playing stored files from the memory card too.
fyi - AOIP -6/30 i think it is.
Hello,
My Optimus 4X HD outputs a strange high pitched Noise from the headphone output. It basically sounds exactly like coil whine from a graphics card would sound like. I tried plugging it into 3 different amplifiers to check if its really my phone or the amp i was using but turns out its my phone (I also tried my brothers ipod on the same amp with the same cable and the noise was gone). I am running the latest nightly of CM11 and have no apps or tweaks installed which would alter anything sound-related. This is really annoying especially when there is no music playing, can anybody help me?

Three ways:
It's a ROM-related issue. This means every CM11's user - at least on our X3 - should experience that: in my case, I'm not experiencing it, yet. You could make a test, by switching to another ROM, checking if the annoyance is still there.
It's a phone-related issue. This means your phone has a manufacturing defect or something got broken.
Your headsets are broken, instead. You could try them on another platform.
I have exactly the same issue, no matter which ROM do I use, gotta live with that

Turns out the cause of this is the crappy audio chip of the LG, it produces interference noises when the impedance of the amp/device you are plugging it into is higher than 100 ohms.. thats also why it doesnt appear when using headphones as those usually have a lower impedance (mine have 32 ohms for example)...
