im sorry im late to the party but i was wondering if anyone else was experiencing any trouble with trying to upgrade to 2.2 and saying the server to get the firmware was unavailable. i am running the stock rom on the phone. thanks.
The update to stock 2.2 is via Kies mini, not OTA. Search here or go to Samsung's site for the drivers and Kies mini.

hey thanks for the relpy i had already downloaded that that was where it told me the firmware was unavailable
Oh, sorry. I though you were trying to get the update by checking software update from the phone.
So, Kies recognizes your phone, but tells you there are no updates? What version of Kies are you using?

Updating through Kies is a piece of cake if there is an update available. I don't know what the stock ROM was in UK but I guess early phones shipped with XXJF3. For everything else, read the FAQ!
Hi, xxjf3 was the veraion i had, is therw anywhere i can download from as foe kies the reason i updated manually using odin was thwre was an update through kies but it would not allow me to update, if someonw could provide a guide to rom update alk the differwnt ways would help.

I see you can't see my signature when using your phone...
Check the FAQ sticky when you get to a PC. You can't do it on the go anyways:

The only official tool for updating is Kies. However if you want to load arbitrary firmware you can use Odin (which is a leaked Samsung tool) or Heimdall (a custom flashing tool developed by myself) once it's been tested that is, it's in a public alpha at the moment.
XD
Is there a newer update than JM1 ? Because Kies says that the version of my device can not be updated... And this sounds weird... it should say no updates found or your device has the latest update... I'm a little worried that I won't be able to update to froyo...
It does it to all .ur not alone

Try kies mini, or search the forum for jf7 ota. There should be an odin installer or a flashable .zip or both.
There its also a jf7 build that was leaked prior to the ota update and is not the same so make sure you search for the ota build. You can also look at a custom rom. The cognition 2.1.x roms are built off of the ota update and have root, busy box, voodoo lag fix, and some other tweeks built in like optional overclock/undervolt or hsupa and back light notifications. But future ota updates are not likely to work. 'cept for maybe over the kies mini update.
Cognition 2.2 versions are built off a leaked froyo release and have a couple bugs related to a problem with the device id that its causing a problem on some phones and not others.

Hi,
I have an I897 from at&t but I'm in canada on rogers. Rogers came out with official 2.2 yesterday.
When I try to update using samsung kies it tells me my device uss not supported. Rogers model is I896.
Is there a way to trick kies so I can get the official rogers 2.2?

Does your phone have a software update option in the settings menu? The AT&T Captivate does (not that it does anything for us ).
Ya it does but using it tries to connect to at & t server.
I installed the leaked 2.2 but it's also an at&t flavor.
Trying to find a way to get the official rogers version

Thanks Howard for your reply,
I am trying to do that but the problem is that i knew that there are ROM versions for regions and Operators so I can't just get any ROM and flash it and I strongly believe that I flashed an European ROM.
So what I am trying to figure out now, how can I know the right version!

If the update came from OTA then you may have to investigate what the old bootloader was, flash it using odin and let the update happen again. There is a thread here that is about an Arabic tab, so do a search for that and there should be some instructions on flashing. I'm going to do the same and report back shortly.
EDIT: It's all right here bro. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1143539&highlight=arabic+vodaphone
Thanks alot for your help, i am downloading this ROM now and hope it will work
I tried the ROM you sent but it failed to install and now the Tab fail to open keeps giving me the screen of connection between the Tab and the computer and an exclamation mark between them..... did I break my tab?

Sorry I've been busy and I forget to subscribe to threads sometimes. Now that you have of back to stock and error free you can try for an official update. I am.assuomng you use KIES? If its available that's how you should get it. Homework is the way to go. Sorry I can't help you further.

If still you're facing problems with this ROM, you can go for OVERCOME - Jupiter version. It's 2.3.3 and provide full support for Arabic.

Please provide more details so that we can help.
1. Why can't kies determine your firmware version? Try *#1234# on the dialer-what is the output?
2. There is no official firmware for manual updating. Only kies can provide "official" updates. The ones made available thru samfirmware or even the ones from here are not guaranteed to work. So just in case you upgrade manually and your tab gets bricked you cannot go to samsung and claim warranty.

OK. Hi again. I was looking at the files for the rooted .tar available for Sprint in the us amd the files are there for Arabic language which leads me to assume most of the roms might have it. I'll look into this more tonight but what I need you to do is provide a catlog that shows the fc. Apps for it are available on the market. Attach the text file with your response. Happy day.
