[Q] Roll-back flashed ROM - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need HELP....
I updated my android ROM from 2.2 to 2.3.2 without doing my home work in investigating what should be checked before the flashing and now my Galaxy Tab 7'' is working with in the new version but giving error messages in the com.android.phone and I don't remember the original version of my firmware to get it back.
Pleas help!
Note: I am in Egypt and my old version used to support Arabic and my operator is Vodafone.

Can you put up what works and what doesn't with this rom? Also I would like some screen shots before I flash this. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Howard for your reply,
I am trying to do that but the problem is that i knew that there are ROM versions for regions and Operators so I can't just get any ROM and flash it and I strongly believe that I flashed an European ROM.
So what I am trying to figure out now, how can I know the right version!

If the update came from OTA then you may have to investigate what the old bootloader was, flash it using odin and let the update happen again. There is a thread here that is about an Arabic tab, so do a search for that and there should be some instructions on flashing. I'm going to do the same and report back shortly.
EDIT: It's all right here bro. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1143539&highlight=arabic+vodaphone

Thanks alot for your help, i am downloading this ROM now and hope it will work

I tried the ROM you sent but it failed to install and now the Tab fail to open keeps giving me the screen of connection between the Tab and the computer and an exclamation mark between them..... did I break my tab?

Well i managed to install an older ROM 2.2 on my G Tab but i still want to install a newer version but this time i guess i will do further investigations before flashing my tab

Sorry I've been busy and I forget to subscribe to threads sometimes. Now that you have of back to stock and error free you can try for an official update. I am.assuomng you use KIES? If its available that's how you should get it. Homework is the way to go. Sorry I can't help you further.

The kies cannot determine my tab's farmware version so it cant update it so i will just wait to an official version and flash it manually

If still you're facing problems with this ROM, you can go for OVERCOME - Jupiter version. It's 2.3.3 and provide full support for Arabic.

Please provide more details so that we can help.
1. Why can't kies determine your firmware version? Try *#1234# on the dialer-what is the output?
2. There is no official firmware for manual updating. Only kies can provide "official" updates. The ones made available thru samfirmware or even the ones from here are not guaranteed to work. So just in case you upgrade manually and your tab gets bricked you cannot go to samsung and claim warranty.

OK. Hi again. I was looking at the files for the rooted .tar available for Sprint in the us amd the files are there for Arabic language which leads me to assume most of the roms might have it. I'll look into this more tonight but what I need you to do is provide a catlog that shows the fc. Apps for it are available on the market. Attach the text file with your response. Happy day.

Updating through Kies is a piece of cake if there is an update available. I don't know what the stock ROM was in UK but I guess early phones shipped with XXJF3. For everything else, read the FAQ!

The only official tool for updating is Kies. However if you want to load arbitrary firmware you can use Odin (which is a leaked Samsung tool) or Heimdall (a custom flashing tool developed by myself) once it's been tested that is, it's in a public alpha at the moment.

[Q] Can't unroot Galaxy S

I roooted my galaxy s some months ago to apply the one click lag fix (Super One Click, v1.6 i think, tho not sure about the version number).
I have since removed the lag-fix and unrooted. The whole process completed without any problems. However, when i tried to update to Gingerbread, it tells me my software version cannot be updated.
When i checked the software details on the phone it has the Kernal as 2.6.32.9 [email protected]8#1
Im pretty sure this still identifies the phone as being rooted.
I tried rooting and unrooting again (this time using v1.9), as before the whole process completed as it should, but nothing has changed on the phone.
I understand that if I flashed the firmware, it would remove the rooting, but would prefer to avoid this route if possible.
The phone is running stock froyo - PDA:JP7 / PHONE: JP3 / CSC: JP5 (TMU)
Any advice on this would be appreciated

Actually the bolded line doesn't indicate whether you're rooted or not. Once you have flash a stock rom via Odin, you're good to go without any root access.
Sorry if I'm being a bit dim... but what holder line?
I'm pretty certain the phone is no longer rooted, but as long as it still has this root kernel on it Kies won't allow it to update.

Updating P7310XWKJ5 with USA's ICS

Hi guys,
Just posting to say that yesterday I flashed the ICS from the USA on my P7310XWKJ5 (Europe).
All I needed to do was follow this great instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582943
The file to flash, by Odin, is this one:
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/169458139/5cca4ab/P7310UELPB_P7310XARLPB_XAR.zip.html
Guys... there is no need to worry. This is an official update from Sammy so if you have the Honeycomb stock there will be no problem at all.
I believe that Europe didn't receive the update only to avoid everyone in the world updating at the same time.
ICS with Touchwiz is simply great. The tablet is now much smoother and faster. ICS is much better then HC.
The only thing that you will lose in the update is the config of your 5 homes. Besides that, all your apps will be ok and your saved data.
Don't wait anymore... flashing Odin style and enjoy the best Samsung as to offer.
At least I did...
Cheers! Coragem com isso!
P.S: make sure you have the samsung drivers on your pc... to test it just install Kies and connect your tablet. If Kies recognizes your tablet then you are good to go.
BTW: no need to thank... I didn't do anything... I just pressed my balls against one another (crossed my fingers) and did the update. Thanks for your help almaalma74.

Has anyone else tried this method? I am tired of waiting here in Spain for the ICS update, and with Sammy's background there is a low probability of receiving it in the short-term. Which are the implications of install the USA version? Will I be able to use OTA for update the tablet in the future? Its better to install via CWM? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

LOL, just gave you a free "thanks" - clicked wrong button.
Anyway, lots of people have done that - well, at least the update using the USA ICS, of course they were coming from a variety of ROM (not only that xwkj5)
Anyway, there's no reason it shouldn't work. A few people (strangely, mostly from Switzerland) had an issue, that the ICS failed to work properly (garbled screen) and found they had to Odin-flash a specific HC 3.2 version, and only then it worked. But that's a minority, and the solution is simple.
future OTA - if you load this ROM, you will get future OTA distributed to the "USA" market. (until you flash another region's ROM)
What to install... if you want to make sure to have the original ICS experience from Samsung (with nothing removed or added), I would recommend to use the stock file for Odin. If you want, you can follow that up with an Odin-flashable recovery & a root.zip flashed from recovery.
see e.g.
for download Odin-flashable recovery (I still prefer the slightly older 5.1.2.6 - for a more complete and logical menu than 5.5.0.4; and more reliable than 6.x)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30839339&postcount=52
for root package:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30837767&postcount=47
Thanks guys for the help. With the fingers crossed today I flashed the usa version via Odin. Simple procedure and very happy with the update. It preserved everything just like a normal update. So long any bugs, huge improvement of perfomance, certainly a new experience. I will try to root it in the nexts days when I have time. Thanks to everyone except Sammy

I updated my P7300 with this image and it works great, except for the obvious loss of 3G.
If you don't have a current requirement for 3G then I can definitely recommend the update.
I used the rooted modded version, btw, with some apps removed. See the development forum.
Updated my UK GT-P7310 yesterday via Odin. Man what a difference! It just feels so much smoother and quicker. Even the boot time seems to have shortened, although I may just be imagining that. No apps lost, no data lost. Absolutely perfect.

I updated my UK GT-P3710 with US Stock ICS via ODIN. Initially smooth and good update. I have had 3 freezes while updating Titanium Backup Pro around 100+ apps. I ended up restoring apps individually with no freezes. I also noticed some brief pauses while playing Airline Control which I have noticed in the past with ICS Custom roms.
I flashed CMW5.5.04 and then used original root from recovery to gain root. No problems. Camera is working great.
I am now trying to flash A1 kernel ver 1.7 wifi to see if I can overclock. FAIL so I restored original boot.img. Overclock might have to wait.
I am liking ICS so much I might get a Galaxy S3 now with rumours of JB update coming.

I just flashed it using ODIN on my 7300... it works without any problem (but without 3G of course).
Just for info: Flashing using ODIN replaces the recovery as well.... so afterwards you will have to re-flash (again using ODIN) a custom recovery in order to continue playing...

[Q] Is my Tab dead?

I've been running CM 10.1 on my 7310 for a couple of months - it's slow, but it does the job.
Today it started misbehaving more than usual, so I rebooted. It's spent the afternoon rebooting itself about once every five minutes - freeze and hard reboot (Samsung splash screen). I tried different versions of CM and AOKP to figure out if it was hardware or software, no change.
I wiped it and flashed CM 9 nightlies a couple of hours ago, and got the same behaviour. After some googling I found aLogrec and turned it on. As soon as it boots and tries to start recording the logcat, it hard reboots. I figure the onboard flash storage is borked - is there anything I can do? I can't even get it to boot into Recovery, it just loops forever.
I'm hoping someone out there can give me some ideas before I go out and spend on a Nexus 7..
Have you tried to see what happens if you install official ICS with Odin?
