this is just a poll to see what rom is being used the most. sorry if i missed anyones. i just put down the ones that look like people still use. if you would like to share which one you use you could also add which version.
edit.... damnit!!!! forgot to add "waiting for froyo to be more stable" :/ dont know how to edit the poll options
fresh now but might revert back to damage i get errors
Froyo as my daily
Right now Im using Pure Hero. If I dont like it my plan is to go to Damageless again.
Damage 2.08.1
Can't find anything else that I like yet. It's stable, fast and reliable. For me anyways.

I was on the XDA app, couldn't see poll. But I voted now.

Nfinite mostly but I nandroid over to froyo every so often to tweak it. I am ready to give up and wait for something stable though.
Aloysius I think I was lured by the pretty screens and constant updates.
I normally use Damage 2.09.01, but I'm trying froyo for the moment. Extremely fast, and very stable, but it doesn't play wma audio, and you cant delete multiple text threads without deleting every thread...Not deal breakers by any means, and the battery life is waaaaaay better.
Yeah I'll vote when I get on the computer.

there is a new ROM over on mydroidworld its by P3Droid and it has most of the stock blur removed..its pretty sweet if anyone wants to try it out..all credits go to the creater of the rom
Looks identical to Birdman. Meh
He pulled the same apk's. Identical. I appreciate the effort but we need something new.

This is a good rom for those that haven't already manually removed all of the bloatware themselves. Otherwise, nothing special. Atleast yet.
I figured some people might like the stock messaging app alarm clock and gallery..i hated the motoblur messaging..this plus the froyo

I never bothered upgrading to birdman since I had already removed most of the junk myself so it just didn't seem like a good enough reason to wipe. This rom on other hand does not require a wipe and it is nice to have the stock message app as well.
I updated to tranquility, because it was deodexed and I had not yet done that. Now I was able to use the black status bar with white text. No major differences from stock than that and removal of a lot of blur.

A lot of blur can be removed, you just have to have applications to take their places. And it has to be able to work without blur supporting it. That's what these ROMs are so far. They're either floating over blur or taking over certain components of it.
Most of us however are waiting for a vanilla build heh.

Yes it runs fine. The rom doesn't appear to be significantly faster...but that wasn't really the point anyway.

well i wonder if Birdman will make the vanilla rom he was talking about. I guess he had a falling out with alldroid.org, and said he won't be posting there anymore. anyone know what happened?
Not sure about you guys.. But I was having a lot of random reboots with this "rom". Went back to my own deodexed and bloat removed nandroid. Much faster. and much more stable now.

Per MDW
Version 1.5rc: Update.
Original Launcher 2 fixed (phone button and orientation sensor)
Developement app fixed (Terminal now included and fixed)
Calculater from source, (Just because I like source, the other worked fine)
Calendar updated (now it syncs with google calendars)
but apparently there are still a few little bugs some are reporting.
I have a Captivate for my wife for Christmas. She is not electronically deficient, but is not the type that is going to want to keep tweaking and changing ROMs. I do stuff like this all the time, for myself and for her, but just do not have the time to learn it all on this particular platform. I am hoping just to get a push in the right direction, not necessarily newb handholding.
So, are there any good recommendations for a "one-time good-enough tons-better-than-stock" ROM that I can get on this phone and have her be happy with it? Thanks!
Tough one
Cognition had some stable 2.1 roms that are nice.
also has 2.2 roms
Axura is great 2.2 but you will have to use google voice for voice mail notifications to work.
For casual user, avoid roms with over click kernels, just my opinion

I would have to say Cognition it's pretty rock solid.
I'd wait till' they officialy release froyo for cappy and people start making roms with it. At least it's what I'm gonna do since most 2.2 roms have problems.

Thanks. Cognition looked like the best option. I looked through that and Perception, and it seemed like they were both good...but there seems like there is always some underlying little issue. Stuff like having to work around getting voicemail, or a wired headset not working like it should.
I think I will just run with the latest Cognition, and if she finds something squirrely it can go back to stock until 2.2 is released. Any recommendations for working with Cognition?
Read up on the lag fix. I believe it uses voodoo. To disable create a folder in the voodoo folder on the sd named disable-lagfix reboot
If you look to apply themes make sure you disable first. To enable delete folder, reboot

Voodoo changes the filing system on the phone from rfs.to ext 4. The utility you use to flash themes, clockwork recovery does not always play nice with ext 4. It is safest to disable the lagfix to apply changes like themes then once applied turn it back on

Well this guy is really good at making a rom. im downloading his 1.3 version (should be equal too, if not better), but the 1.2, FREAKING AWESOME! Its my go to rom when i have issues with other roms. Definitely easy to use. only problem was one app was funky, but its the apps fault, others complained about it (on the games website). has the muli touch keyboard and has some great lagfix options. can even overclock IF you really need too. Well hope this helped, if not, best of luck and Merry Christmas!
Bumping up my own ancient thread. My wife has been happily running her Captivate with Cognition for over a year and a half now. It is starting to get a bit long-in-the-tooth and glitchy. With all of the changes over this time, I certainly would like to update it. For daily, average use it looks like CM9 is a safe bet. Are there any JB roms that are worth it and stable? Is there much to be gained from JB over ICS?
Also, I have never had to restore before. I have done some searching and some googling, but nothing seems too clear to me. What all do I need to do to save everything (contacts, calls, messages, applications, app data, pictures, etc.) so that it can be seamlessly transitioned to a new ROM?

I figure I will try one more post in hopes of some help, otherwise I will gladly take the hint and really dig deep into it.
In my opinion CM10 is a great improvement! The current installs all seem to factory reset, so you loose all your apps.
If you stick with CM9 you can flash right over top of what's there. Of course wiping the dalvik and flashing gapps too.

So I can flash from Android 2.2 to 4.0 without impacting any of the data on the phone? That seems almost too good to be true!
This is not my work, and all credit goes to devs. Liberty RC1. Really awesome.
Remember I, your mom, your priest, or your dog are not responsible for what you do to your phone. Only you are. Happy flashing.

Use the app mybackup root. You can back up all apps and there data and restore them all at one time. Also backups SMS mms and so forth. Works much better than titanium. I use both in tandum. So backup your apps. Boot cwm. Then backup entire rom...flash liberty restore apps. Cake! Restore backup if you don't like current rom.

Liberty is so worth any trouble, although flashing it really is easy. It is super. It was always my favorite on my x, and I love on my bionic. The crazy thing is, it's just an RC. Great work to the devs. Be sure to show them some love.

Yea, mine doesn't do it either. It is a release candidate, so could be something to get fixed in future. Still, wicked rom.

How else would someone use rooted apps?
Titanium backup, adaway, even cerburus offers better protection on rooted devices.
Maybe you want to do a nandroid backup, flash ROMs, kernels, tweaks etc

I tried that a while ago. He said "android already does that, when I logged in it downloaded all my apps" i tried explaining that he had to download them and with titanium backup it saves your settings and everything and you don't need data, but he didn't listen saying he was on WiFi and something else. And he says he's okay with the virus protection 4.2 offers.
I just figured out why its useless talking to him though. He's a iSheep. He only has a nexus 7 and 4 because Google gave them to him.

I'm tired of flashing ROMs, after a G1, Vibrant, Galaxy Tab and GS2. I'm currently happy enough with proper unskinned, pure Android on my N7 & N4. I don't feel compelled to root either one. It sounds like some of you think that makes me a bad person! LOL
My old Galaxy Tab is on CM9, used by my 7 y.o. son. The GS2 is on CM10, used by my 12 y.o. daughter. I consider both more imperfect combinations than 4.2 on my Nexxi. Great, best options for their hardware, but the Nexxi are superior. My daughter wants an N4 when they're back in stock. I now want a N10 to complete the trifecta.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
yah its user preference. Some people get tired of flashing ROMs, like myself and in the end of the day I just want phone to work reliably. BUT i am rooted!
I love the aspect of custom kernels most. You can improve performance, battery life or even add features to the device.
Don't bother the guy into rooting. I've rooted since my Og moto droid. Back then you wanted more performance or features that didn't come stock. Aosp has hit a point where I don't need to root anymore. So many Roms out there that claim its been optimized, zipalinged , faster this and that battery this and that. It always ended up buggier than **** days later. Rooting takes time, research, more time.
4.2 has everything I need. I don't need ti because I don't need to wipe my phone. There are no preinstalled apps I need to get rid of. Tethering is included.
Android is about choice. Please don't label someone an isheep because they are happy with what they have.
Root is 1 file. Why not?
Modify clock speed
Modify the screen colors(Voodoo i think)
Performance gains(ext4, jit, etc)
Fix Bugs in stock Rom
Can fix compatibility with apps
Remove Bloatware if exists
Access to Root apps like ChainFire 3D
Titanium backup
Don't need anymore reason
