Okay, so I rooted and installed Cyanogen earlier; what cool things can I do with root?
Also, wow. My phone feels so much more responsive now. Just an aside.

Currently using Cyanogen. There a list of apps for root or anything? That's really what I'm looking for.
Quick post: themes. Where do I get them? Are they the morphs in the themes and apps section?
Go to the themes section and read the morphs threads. Install metamorph from the market and go to town. I spent days with new black status bars, battery icons, etc. Check for black matte, or desire icons, its so nice.

Gotcha. Thanks!
to the OP
you know you will have a much shorter list if you refraised the title "list of things that you CANT do when rooted". being rooted lets you do anything you could want on a android phone.

True. I'm just wondering if there's a list of apps, common things to do, etc.
Also: Metamorph doesn't seem to be working for me? Trying to apply BlackMatte and it has been sitting on res-framework.apk for hours now.

You know the first time I tried to apply with metamorph it sat there forever, and I thought I did something wrong. I forced it closed, reboot, and then tried again and it worked.

Ah, should've thought of that. One more question: what app is it that puts a notification with battery temp, health, etc in the tray?

Well battery life widget is what many use, which puts temp, voltage, and percentage on a widget. Make sure you enable extended info in its settings.
I don't like the battery running in notification bar. I like a clean running status bar, so a home screen widget is better for me.
If you use cyanogen, percentage goes right over top of the battery icon itself.

I found the notification one, which I like except it places a second battery icon in the notification bar, instead of just the tray. I like the info in the tray though. Anything similar to that out there?

yeah well there is one that will put it in your notification bar, but i forget the name. and cyanogen puts the percentage on the actual batery icon. its in spare parts in the cyanogen ROM.
i flashed a 2.2 desire rom on my nexus one. The rom has the circle battery icon with the number inside. I honestly just dont like it, and prefer the original green graph battery icon. Can i get some help on this?
You need morph for original battery icon. Find it in Themes & Apps section, download Metamorph or any other morph app from the Market, execute.
Is there an easy way to edit icons/colors in notification bar? Looking through themes and not really wanting all the changes included....just wanna change the bar

basically you will deal with the images in 2 files:
\system\framework\framework-res.apk
\system\framework\twframework-res.apk
Unzip the files and you will find corresponding images, replace what you want, then overwrite the existing one.
Make sure you backup your existing one just in case you get a boot loop.
The status bar is a difficult process to change. It took me a month to find out how to change every detail of it. The whole thing is not in one location.
You'll also need the services.jar file that is in with the framework-res.apk and twframework.res.
Check this post

It throws light into basics like how to change battery icons. Should be good enough to get started.
Thx guys

i would like to change battery position and icon and include a carrier logo...
Adb, apktool, some knowledge about xml, and there's also plenty of tutorials on xda about that matter. But you can't change position of single icons, you can move all of them from left to right, but you can't pick "signal to the left, wifi in center" and so on. That's how gb is built. To add carrier logo you can use my guide for miui as a base.
Hey guys how would i go about themeing the status bar icons.
I already got my Battery Themed using Wanem Xposed.
But how can i theme my 4g, wifi Vibrate etc....
let me know
Bump
I think that stuff is in the SystemUI.apk file.
I believe you have to pull it off the phone, unpack it, edit the files, pack it again, and resign it before putting it back on the phone.
There could be an easier way, though.
