Best SPL/Radio for COSDS/CM6.1.0? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I have COSDS on my Dream (in my sig).
Current radio is 3.22.26.17 & Current HBoot is 1.33.2005.
The COSDS (and the CM6.1.0 before that) is not working too good. Messaging, maps, call logs, always reset themselves. COSDS is overall pretty slow once I load a couple of applications that I need into it. CM always locks up once a day, at least.
Was wondering if my radio & SPL is the problem.
What is the best combo RADIO/SPL for COSDS?
What is the best combo RADIO/SPL for CM6.1.0?
Thanks all
Heeter

32b right? i say dont use COS at all
i say you should use GingerYoshi or ezGingerbread, maybe ezterry Froyo, you might gonna have to update your Hboot to the 1.33.0013d for GingerYoshi or ezGingerbread(2708), but hey, 14 extra mb of ram. ezterry's Froyo which is called MT3G_test2, uses the 2005 spl, so that works COS "s kernel take up to much system, which makes it lag so much. ginger yoshi is pretty fast. ezgingerbread is stock GB so even better

That is a killer helpful post for me.
Links too! This is awesome.
I have been beating my head against the wall trying to get COSDS working properly on this phone.
Thanks a million,
Heeter

No problem

Oh, another thing. If you ever need help, I'll be glad to assist on your troubles lol

Thanks again, for your help.
I ended up loading Ginger Yoshi RC6.1
Total difference now, as compared to COSDS, crazy better performance, even with all my apps reinstalled.
I do have a couple of questions, but I started new threads for them.
Thanks again,
Heeter

G1 what should I flash on it?

Hi everyone.
I'm sort of a beginner in this but still already flash some phones (g2, gravity, cliq, ...)
The hardest part for me now is to update this G1 that I have. It's a 32b devices
I've rooted, installed a new radio, dangerspl, spl-signed everything was a little bit confusing there for a while.
I've got Cyanogenmod 6 running on it. But I find it slow not so "stable" (it's working just feels very lagy with some fc). I'm guessing there's something missing.
What do you guys recommend for me to do so I can get a faster, updated rom on that phone?
Need some with at least android 2.1 on it
what partitions on sdcard? ext2 or ext3? pls advice
& have some patience with my request

Are you using setcpu to overlock your phone? If you're running a cyanogen rom or cyanogen based rom the overclock kernel is included, you just need setcpu from the market, or you can get it for free here on xda. It will allow you to overclock. If you are already overclocking, and you need a 2.1+ rom, I suppose you could try SuperE or SuperFly, they are fairly fast.

Personally I'd steer clear of Cyan roms until your more comfortable with setting things up, personally I don't use cyans but thats my choice.
I'd go with either EZterry's asop or the new enom 'official' that is out and has a few more configurable options. All the fun of the fair without the bloatware cm roms have and will ease you into the world of flashing
Relevant post, Gottijr, and thanks for responders. I got a G1 (with DMD64, 1.6 official tmob US latest upgrade) from fleabay for my daughter recently. I'm an experienced Winmo ROM modder/uploader/tweaker for years, but after many many hours of reading over the last few days I'm still a bit confused about what's really appropriate for this phone.
I've rooted so far, but can't seem to get a modified recovery image working ( likely due to dmd64 build?). Mainly curious what I should strive for in that I want primarily stability and app to SD since the internal memory is so limited. Not sure the Cyanogen mod is the right choice since I don't want daily use to require any tweaking. What would the experts recommend?
I don't want to hijack the thread here, but seems like a similar predicament.
Wipe?
With the newer CyanogenMod stuff I have found that wiping and reflashing the same ROM in recovery seems to help substantially on the FCs and lagginess.
I'm not sure why the full wipe / reflash works, but I suppose it has something to do with the inability to do a complete wipe. I haven't tried the new uber wipe that just came out, but I would be curious to see if that had better results as a starting point for a ROM install.
Also, I found I was happier on CyanogenMod with LauncherPlus over the included ADW Launcher. Though that was on the beta of 6.1 and I know the 6.1 stable has a newer version of ADW which might have addressed some of its annoyances.
I recommend setting up Titanium Backup for apps or using Droid Explorer to pull a backup of your ideal application environment. This will make swapping out ROMs quick for testing out what works for you.

For speed and stability its difficult to beat the SuperD 1.11 rom ....essentially a donut (1.6) rom stripped and then filled with 2.1 (eclair) goodness. Sweet.

[Q] Froyo by Laszlo Questions (More at bottom)

Hello there, I recently flashed CM6 to my G1 and used Zeam for a faster launcher, but friends are telling me that when they used CM6, their phone got slower and slower as time went on, and that I should seek alternatives.
I hear one of the best Android 2.2 roms out there is Froyo by Laszlo, and from reading it seems the only major difference is that it can use the more recent radio/spl/kernel which adds 15MB, and that it's generally lighter than CM6 as well.
Can anyone give me a rundown on what some of the other major differences are? I also hear other good ones are ezterry's AOSP and Froyo for Trout.
As for upgrading the Radio and SPL needed for Froyo by Laszlo:
Considering I have DangerSPL (HBOOT-1.33.2005), RA's Recovery, and Radio 2.22.23.02, is there anything extra I need to worry about other than what's outlined in this thread?
Thanks in advance.

Your pretty much good with everything on the radio and spl, but check out the original thread just to make sure:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139
I did look at the thread, but it still doesn't say what makes it so different.
I suppose the best way to know for sure is to try it for myself, so thanks for clarifying.

I have not tried froyo by laszlo, but i have tried cm6 , so i cant tell what the difference is, but another major difference is that froyo by laszlo has apps2sdext, which allows you to install apps in a ext3 or ext 4 partition on your sd card, while cm6 does not.
I noticed that, does it set up the partitions for you, or will I have to do this myself? What would a good size for them be?

Yes you will, this thread might help you with partitioning your sd card for ext4:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097920
its on page 3, but the whole thread might be helpful
Okay, thanks for that, I'm going to try it now.
EDIT: Last question, does the updated kernel for 2708 come pre-installed with Froyo by Laszlo or does that have to be done separately as well?
EDIT2: D'oh, nevermind, I saw it in the features list. Right now it's booting, hope it works!
EDIT3: Wow, they weren't lying, Laszlo did a great job, it's lightning fast! I'm not partial to the theme choice, but I know this can be changed easily.
Thanks for your help.
I do have a few more questions though;
1. How do I revert to the Android 2.2 Google Market? The new one feels a bit too cluttered to me, and flashing CM6 Google Apps did not change this
Thanks in advance.

^_^
Thanks for the suggestion, but I simply ended up replacing the lock screen with Froyo's, as well as tweaking the status bar (making it a gradient rather than solid black, for example)
ok my personal opinion... froyobylaszlo the BEST froyo rom hands down... only issue i find is that the developer stopped updating soo you can take it upon yourself to make changes if you dont like it.. but still to this day i thinks its the best.. sorry to offend anyone by saying that but its only my personal opinion... lazslo rom is just so smooth and stable..
my sd was 128mb swap and 1024mb ext4 and i used this kernel... http://www.4shared.com/file/1j_4eg7x/ezBiffTestKernel20110222-2708_.html
honestly you will love this rom but i recomend upgrading your radio and hboot... can follow this guide or the one you posted earlier by habbitat22, they are kinda the same..

[Q] Lightest stable ROM?

I don't really use my phone for much besides texting and listening to music. I was wondering if you guys could recommend a ROM that would be good for me? I think I'd just want the lightest, best battery life ROM. I've never really dipped too deep into this sort of stuff, so browsing threads in the development section isn't really getting me anywhere.
If any of this info helps, this is what I've currently got on my phone (T-Mobile G1):
Biffmod 2.1
Dream PVT 32b Ship S-On
1.33.0013d SPL
2.22.27.08 Radio
RA-dream-v1.7.0 Recovery
Thanks for any help in advance.
I believe that biffmod is one of the fastest, cleanest, and most stable roms around. If you want anything faster, you would have to revert back to android 1.6. Either stock or by a dev here. However, I think biffmod fits the bill perfectly.

theres ezgingerbread, and ezterry's froyo aosp
both light and stable
There is also SuperAosp 6.4. To me it's stable enough. It also run fast for me.
i agree with maximo360. ezgingerbread, ezterry froyo ota, xillius donut if you dont mind android version. superbad cm5 is good also. ads magpie is like ezgingerbread.

+1 to all the above posters, to really get speed out of the G1, you must revert to 1.6 to get the best experience, you will be very happy with that. Gingerbread is pushing it if you want to get the best speed, froyo might be a go since it does feature JIT to increase speed, same goes for ginger...But Ginger is very heavy on older devices, so I would say stick with donut, when I used the G1 I stuck with Enom's donut ROM or Ben bauncher[is that how you spell it?], I don't know of the other donut builds but those two are my top choices for anyone.
Donut or Froyo...
Hi,if you want everything to work without troubles and stable flash HtClay fastest 3.0.3 or Froyo by Lazslo with Farmatito kernel... Š•verything works brilinat and batery life is long

help select ROM

hi, i've been out of touch from the rom scene for about 4 months. It confusing for me now.
I want a fast,light,good battery,daily use ROM AND a fast, high 3Dperformance ROM.
My Current Specs are:
DREAM PVT 32B ENG S-OFF;
HBOOT-1.33.2005(DREA11000);
Recovery:RA-dream-v1.7.0;
CPLD-4 ;RADIO-2.22.23.02 ;
Plz help me find:
ROM
Radio
Bootloader
Recovery
Kernel
ROM: Any would works the same. My preference is SuperAosp 6.4.2. There is also [ROM] [MAR 1 2011] Froyo by Laszlo - Just Another Awesome Rom 5.2 that looks promissing. There are other like ezGengerBread, etc...
Radio/SPL: Use ezTerry 2708+ enabled kernel [14MB ram with radio 2.22.27.08/2.22.28.25 & hboot 1.33.0013d]
Recovery: You already have the best one out there. I recommend that you keep the Amon RA.
and if you not too sure about how to prpely use fastboot, you can use this guide on how to upgrade via recovery... and yeah for a fast stable rom i would also go with froyo by lazslo
you can try skyfalcon's ROM base on CM 6 , i use it ..and iti very ok..here is the link:

Jawwad_shaukat,
Would you mind giving me short instructions on how did you upgrade to gingerYoshi.
1) u must have a rooted phone (mine is T-mobile's G1).
2) Flash Recovery e.g Amon's "RA-dream-v1.7.0" for G1
3) Flash SPL (be careful here) mine is "Hboot: 1.33.0013d" [latest and Best] b4 that i had "HBOOT-1.33.2005" [its OLD now] and b4 that, the stock one.
4) Flash Radio: 2.22.28.25 [its Best&Latest also generally referred as "+2708"]
5) Flash any new custom ROM ["U MUST FIRST CHECK WHAT REQUIREMENTS (of Radio,Bootloader, Recovery) ARE FOR THE SPECIFIC ROMS"]
I can be wrong as I keep away from ROM business for many days and forget things,
So certify this from some active user first ( i hope it's OK btw)
.......And Do Everything At ur OWN RISK Carefully.....
More ROMs Pls.
I've been running the Chromatic Dream on my rooted G1 for too long. Is there any ROMs' out there by now that are stable enough to make my G1 a daily user again without so many FCs and battery draining? I'm thinking about giving it to my daughter since I have the G2 now. Thx in Advance.

Someone refer him to some:
Fast
Stable
Good Battery ROM

Dug out an old Tmo G1 with cyan 4, looking for a good daily driver rom.

My girlfriend's old flip phone broke, so I set her up on my old G1 with cyanogen 4.
She likes it but it is android 1.6 so a lot of apps don't work.
I see a lot of roms talking about flashing radios and such and am lost (I am spoiled by safestrap on my D4).
Was looking for a good gingerbread or later rom that will function (calls, wifi, gps,bt,audio, camera, etc) and a detailed how to on flashing the rom and any required radios/kernals/etc. I tried cyanogen 6.1, but it kept rebooting.
Thanks in advance.
EzGingerbread is very stable and eeks just about every last drop of speed the old G1 is capable of providing. The opening post of that thread has pretty extensive instructions.
He also provides links to older versions of apps that work well. Newer versions of some apps like Maps are just too bloated to run on the G1.

Check out Royalknight6190s ROM Bible, and my recently posted G1 Oracle. I would recommend Feoyo by Laszlo, or any of the variants. Gingerbread is not a great idea on the G1. Take a look in the G1 XDA wiki for guides. Google's a good resource as well.
Do your own research if you want a ROM that lives up to your OWN personal needs. Which will probably be speed on a G1. So go for something old and lightweight.
Also, this is a development forum this thread should be in Q&A.
I agree that Froyo by Lazlo was a good build, but you will need to flash a different kernel over it - either Farmatito's or EZTerry's. There's a known battery drain bug with the stock kernel.
thanks for the input guys, I finally hunted down the old hboot and danger spl files, as well as a tiny gapps and have cm6.1 on it.
I might have to add in the EZTERRY 14mb hack, but that will have to come later.
