Just wanted to throw this out here in case anybody else runs into this problem. I just purchased a bt keyboard, worked fine for a few days, then suddenly my tab started to freeze, even after rebooting. System panel would show full cpu usage, and it took minutes to simply scroll, but the time and charging indicator worked in real time. After some searching I found some troubles the tab had with bluetooth devices. To the point, I found that after opening pandora for the first time since I had the keyboard that the bt media setting was enabled, turned that off, rebooted, and its been at least 5 hours and haven't had a problem since, usually only took a few minutes to freeze after powering up. As a side note, I'm sure other apps/settings may cause the same problem.

I use(d) bluetooth headset and my freezing problem was with any and all music players. I have Pandora installed, but is it only the setting in pandora that's the problem or all music players?
It could be any apps really. For me it was pandora, I'm using poweramp for my music and I know that has bt disabled. I would just check any media apps for bt settings.

Thanks
I noticed that the 'Bluetooth' was the cause of my GT-P1000 freezing issues.
But I didn't know that some apss could also cause this!
I will try to uninstall Pandora and see if the BT issues has been resolved.
It's annoying coz I often turn the BT ON coz I used it as my primary phone number
So since you changed the BT setting in Pandora, have you had any freezing issue at all? My device started freezing like mad and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was. I first deleted unnecessary apps, no effect. Then I formatted the memory, followed by a factory reset when the format didn't work. The problem persisted! Two constants in the equation are the presence of Pandora (which I did not realize uad a BT setting) and my Apple Bluetooth keyboard. I finally put two and two together that it had to do with my keyboard, so now I'm a bit wary of even pairing it again lest I smash my Tab against the desk in a fit of freeze induced anger.
So I am interested to know if yoir correction of the Pandora setting seems to be a permanemt resolution.
Notice the typos above? That's because I'm not using my Bluetooth keyboard. Haha

Helps alot, thanks.
Yep. Pandora. As soon as got my new Jawbone ICON Hero bt earpiece I decided to try it with my media players. with XiaaLive it was fine. Audio was nice and clear. Starting and stopping the app was smooth. However, when I tried Pandora, audio was fine and starting the app was fine. But every time I tried quieting the app my US T-Mo Galaxy Tab would get super slow. Everything was going in slow motion. Folders would take 20 to 30 seconds to open. Even pressing the Power button took about 15 seconds to show the "Shut Down" screen.
After a reboot, everything was fine again. And I left it alone until the next day when I tried it again. And sure enough. Upon quitting the Pandora app everything got really really slow again.
So, using Pandora and a BT device seems to be the issue.

Hey all, just a quick problem I'm having with pandora. When I'm driving around listening to pandora it will randomly stop playing a song and I'll have to skip to the next song and it will play fine again. Anyone else have this problem? I've tried reinstalling from the market, and it's persisted over several roms and 2.1 and 2.2. Any help would be great! Thanks.

I'm a bartender and I plug my phone into the sound system to play music for the whole bar when I'm working, and I often stream music. For a while, I used Pandora but it would stop like that and/or freeze up and I would have to force stop it in task manager and re open it, which takes at least a minute (and in bartending, is a lot of time not spent making money). It got to the point where Pandora would stop every 4th or 5th song. Mind you, this was the same whether I was on wifi or 3g. Anyhow, I switched to Slacker and it's been almost flawless. It also actually plays the ****ing artist that I create the radio station around.
i also had this happening to me a while ago but it seems to be sparatic with my phone, lately it has been working great with wifi and 3g. It usually happens to me though when i am on a 3g network when i want to listen to something other than my ipod. Then other times i can be at school just sitting doing my hw while listening doing hw and it starts stopping on me. Unlike you though mine seemed to stop when the screen shutoff and i would have to press play again and as soon as i did that it would stop again. Think the problem was due to ATK but dont really know if that was true
screw pandora now.

I have also switched to slacker in the last couple weeks and will never go back to pandora. You are correct in that you actually hear the artist you chose quite often.
My wife and I notice that a lot when we are driving home from work listening to it via bluetooth. Every 3-4 songs it does that. In the middle of the day I never have a problem. I'm pretty sure their servers are likely just getting overwhelmed.
Was beginning to think it was my phone doing it...will try slacker now.
I, too, am glad to know it's not just my phone. Everything you guys describe happens to me also.
I never heard of Slacker, but will check it out now.
This has been an issue since version 1.5 of Pandora. It's very lame.
If you can find an apk of version 1.4.x, supposedly it was more reliable.

Found pandora 1.3 apk on droid forums and is working great! Ill post link later.

Pandora 1.3 --->https://www.box.net/pdn-android-apps/1/46972990/467842722
Downloaded the 1.3 apk..installed...froze on first song! I give up.
I think I'm done with Pandora. Anyone have any advice between Last.FM and Slacker? I'd probaly go with the premium on which ever one I decided on.
Cog 4.1 btw
Just chiming in to say I have the same problem. I only get a few songs then Pandora stops playing. Not sure if it has to do with the phone going to sleep. I have seen some posts about "Mobile Data Always On" option but I have yet to find that on the Captivate.
No its pandora! I just downgrade to 1.3 and been fine since.
Hello!
I hope this forum isn't 100% dead...
I had to take my Kaiser out of my closet because my HD2's screen broke and I can't afford a replacement. I flashed Android to it and I was surprised, how fast does it work on so weak hardware. But my problem is that I installed few apps (Next browser, Heroes 2 port - nevermind it works unplayable, exDialer, ES file explorer, updated all apps already present in ROM...), and I'm using PowerAmp to listen for music. But it simply doesn't work properly. When I turn the screen off, after a few seconds, playback stops. Did anyone suffer the same issue as me? I'm using Scoot's CyanogenMod 6 rom.
Also, I have another problem. Every time I turn on the scree, it goes white for a moment, then it shows some garbage and in the end, it shows everything properly. But it takes a while until it finishes. Maybe there's a cure for it, too?
Hi, I've had my note 4 now for 5 months and I use it a lot. As a tradesman I use my phone to play music through a bluetooth speaker (bose soundlink mini) as I did with my note 3 but on occasions this phone would randomly reboot itself. The problem was so random I tried everything I could think of including hard reseting, downloading a fresh copy of the music files I play plus switching storage media. So here is my conclusion to the problem and now I'm aware of it,it never happens so I would like to share this with you. Firstly I downloaded a radio player app so I could continue listening to music and I have tried a couple and they work fine the phone has not rebooted at all, I should also point out that when using the phone in hand it never reboots. Using the radio app I noticed the phone remains warm not hot due to certain processes going on in the background. In summary the phone only reboots when it's cold and it's almost certainly the reason for my problem as now I leave the phone in my pocket when using mp3 player it's fine however this restricts bluetooth range. Now the weather is warming up I'm now able to leave the phone in a window again without problems. It seems as though the phone will run superbly even when it's warm/red hot in my hand but a little bit of cold it becomes unreliable. So my question is when the cold weather returns can I boost bluetooth so it makes the phone work harder as it seems as though using its internal mp3 player and bluetooth is effortless for the note 4? Big fan of the note series and I hope this can be fixed with an update but I've never had this problem with the other notes I've had.
Sorry for not quoting actual temperatures but I live in the uk if that helps.
Thanks Fred
Anyone else with this phone using Android Auto? I've been having issues with my Kenwood DDX9207S head unit where it sometimes doesn't initialize AA properly, is more often than not very laggy, etc. Sometimes it runs smoothly, as I would expect for a phone of this class with these specs, but it's getting pretty frustrating. I've tried clearing Android Auto's data/cache and uninstalling and reinstalling it, but nothing seems to help. I'm not sure if it's an AA issue, phone issue, or possibly the head unit (very doubtful, but the screen sometimes stays stuck on AA after disconnecting the phone). I can sometimes resolve the issue simply by unplugging and replugging the phone in, sometimes I have to kill all app processes, and sometimes I have to flat out reboot the phone.
EDIT:
Did some testing last night and this morning during my commute (I sit in a lot of traffic, don't worry) and found a possible culprit: Settings. I looked at the memory usage for apps, and without fail, everything was using very little memory except Settings, which was eating 100-300mbs. Killing the process instantly made AA responsive again, but within 5-10 minutes, I was seeing lag again, and Settings was building up memory usage. I'm going to perform a factory reset on the phone today to see if that alleviates the issue.
EDIT II:
After factory resetting the phone, I'm not seeing issues, SO FAR, with AA. The settings thing wasn't the right target. I still get high RAM numbers with it regardless, and I see the same thing on my Tab S2, so that's obviously not what was causing the issue. The difference *might* be that I disabled a lot of AT&T bloatware before, and in doing so might have messed something up. I'm leaving everything enabled right now, so we'll see how this goes. I only have one car ride under my belt so far, so it's not a very scientific comparison.
EDIT III:
Ran into the exact same issues earlier this afternoon. Plugged the phone in, got the "Accept" screen on my head unit, and then blank. I looked at my phone and realized that AA didn't actually launch, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in. It launched that time, but the lag was there. I can take up to 10 seconds for AA to register a touch, and Maps freezes up constantly for 10 seconds or so before trying to catch up (it usually doesn't catch all the way up before it freezes again). This makes AA more or less unusable for me. I can't find anyone else out there that has had these issues with AA and this phone, so I'm unsure of what the issue actually is. The only difference between last night and today is that last night I was listening to podcasts through Pocket Casts, and today I used Audible. I'll do a bit more testing with/without Audible to see if that's the culprit; I know AA support is relatively new on Audible (though it was in the beta for a while). Again, I haven't seen anyone complain of poor AA performance while using Audible, so I don't know if that's the issue. I wish I had a Nexus to test this against to see if its the phone...
Having the same issue it does not connect all the time
So here's a wierd one. Have a SM-N960U1 on Android 9. Everything's been fine but as of last Friday every time it pairs with a Bluetooth device (headphones, car, etc.) it starts calling itself? I re-paired all devices, turned BT off and back on, restarted phone, etc., but this behavior persists. Music is also terrible during this time, but realized by accident when I press Device Care widget to optimize phone the BT device announces 'Call Ending', and music again sounds great. However there's no record of any outgoing call in Phone App. I didn't realize what # was being called until I got in my car and saw it was dialing itself, but again, this phantom call does not show up in Recent Calls history? Any ideas?
Ugh... Same
Same man. Just letting you know you're not alone and following for a resolution.
smart lock on?
Removed all trusted devices from smart lock and it still happened.
Did a support Chat with Samsung, they recommended a soft reset (Vol dn + Power, similar to a Battery pull) which solved it temporarily when I turned on Bluetooth but since then the bug continues. No new updates or setup changes I'm aware of before this started happening. They also suggested running in safe mode and disabling Apps one at a time to see if the issue can be isolated (aren't these supposed to 'be' smartphones? Evidently there's no log of what it's doing) Will try that or another Chat session when I get some time again.
Ive been having this issue for a week or so as well. Every time I get in my car, I have to end the call. Its got to be a software update that caused the issue.
I'm thinking now it could be related to Bixby. I don't use it (remapped to google assistant & flashlight on long press using bxActions) but I recall I allowed it to update recently in case it gets better in the future.
Same issue here ... Sprint Note 9 on Pie ... Bluetooth headphones even has issues. I have to make a phone call and end it to be able to control volume from the headset (changing it from in-call audio to media audio).
Yup, those are the symptoms. Bluetooth headphones sound terrible and has no device control until the 'phantom' call that starts on it's own is manually ended.
I had this same problem and finally narrowed it down to a single app. In my case, it was the RC Phone (Ring Central) app. Upon contacting the vendor, they confirmed it was a known issue with a recent update.
With it uninstalled I have no issues.
Good luck

Awesome tip!
I use Ring Central App for keeping up with work phone messages. A few days ago started the phone in safe mode and had no BT issue, then back in 'un-safe' mode at first it didn't happen but cycling the headphones on and off it did occur again so I was faced with narrowing it down to which App. After reading your post I went into RC Phone settings, Mobile App Settings, Default Launching, and turned off 'Call From Android Dialer' since I don't use that feature and so far no issue!
Thanks for the tip, hopefully this setting change continues to solve this.
Still good after a couple days and weekly auto phone restart (Sat @ 3:00 AM). So nice not to have to end a phantom call that interrupts the stereo after 10 seconds every time I start the car.
Thanks again for the RC Phone tip.
You guys are definitely not alone. I unfortunately do not use the ring central app so I am not sure what is causing it for me...
I'm on the note 10 and have only had this problem pop up recently out of nowhere... I have no idea what could be my problem as I do not have RC Phone installed on my phone
Possible Solution
Hey, I posted a few days ago about having this same problem and not being a user of ring central. I got to thinking and tested this out. The Voxer app was the issue for me. I uninstalled this app and I haven't had any problems since. I am not sure about why the most recent Voxer update caused my phone to start doing this but I hope this helps someone else.
Possible Solution
Some may have tried this. Let me know.
My wife has Honda Hands Free 2016. In the past 30 days it started this same freaky behavior as all of you list.
She has a Samsung s9+.
She also has had Voxer installed on her phone and has had for many years. I will have to check to see if a recent update hit.
But, this is what seems to work for me at this point........
Told Honda Hands Free to completely forget her s9+. Then disabled blue tooth on the s9+.
Turn Entire Honda car off.
Turn Honda back on, told it to connect to my Samsung phone SM-J320A. Verified Honda was connecting properly to my SM-320A with no issues. All good with no freaky behavior. As info Voxer is not installed on my SM-320A.
Turned bluetooth back on s9+ then added the Samsung s9+ back to Honda Hands Free and told it to completely forget my SM-320A.
So far this has stopped the freaky behavior. If it comes back I will update here and then I will try uninstalling Voxer.
