Hi guys,
I've searched the forums and unfortunately have found nothing about the title.
Is there a known or upcoming overclock for the Galaxy S on Froyo 2.2? Obviously the Kernel Overclock below is only for Eclair but Froyo with 1.2GHz would be sweet!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746343
Thanks!
the thing is we all use the samsung kernels and the froyo kernel is not released because firmwares aren't official so they're not forced to distribute the sources (leaks = mostly illegal - it's even breaking gpl)
i suppose u could get a 2.1 kernel to boot somehow, its probably mostly the init ramdisk which changes (?)
Until they get stable setcpu that works even with stock kernels overclocking is next to useless

How about now?
There is just one topic on this. And if you read atleast a couple of last msges you would know.
Just curious, is that overclock means drain more battery power? Then I guess it not good for smartphone isn't it?

Geeeezzz..... People here who want to overclock do not care about battery drain.
In most cases (use the Nexus One as a good example) they modified the kernel to undervolt to acceptable levels, and they were still able to overclock to 1.2Ghz stable. I saw no change in battery use when I had my Nexus One and overclocked with this UV method.
I have only 600Mhz.
I cant overclock only underclock, even with OC-Kernel.
The problem is on Stock Firmware 2.3.3 and Costoum Roms.
Is there a Hardware-Bug or what else?
Not all chips are made to the same quality. They only have to reach a certain clock speed to pass quality checks. Certain devices can be overclocked due to being of higher quality.

Yes but the default clock of the ACE is 800Mhz right? But MY default clock is 600Mhz.
I dont have any options to overclock only from 124Mhz - 600Mhz.
The default clock of 800Mhz would be ok for me..
You sure its a ace? Galaxy fit / mini & 551 / europa are 600mhz MSM7227 vs 800mhz MSM7227-t 800mhz galaxy gio / ace.
Yes! Its definitely a ACE i have the Samsung box here .. and there are a big label Galaxy ACE "800Mhz CPU"
Which rom are you using? Did you have the same problem on stock rom?
Do you have setcpu, if you do go on Info ; CPU what does it say ; Cpu Part / Cpu Revision / Hardware / Revision ?
If problem presist then go to Samsung service centre and change your phone dude

Yes the problems are also on stock rom.
I have the costoum rom "CyanogenMod 7.1-cooper-KANG-RC1 Android 2.3.7" with OC-Kernel
Here are some Screenshots

Hi @Cr0nFixXx!...
It would seem to me that your problem is your Kernel... The details in your first thumbnail show the kernel to be that of a different dev to @Ketut...!!! Your OC Kernel details should read as this : 2.6.35.7-perf-CL562111 [email protected]#4
The frequencies of the Cpu are governed solely by the kernel, so this is without a doubt your limiting factor...
The below kernel is tried & tested by thousands of users & is stable under OC...(check my sig for details)...
You can download this kernel from my dropbox here : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/44779766/cm-7.1-oc-kernel-2.6.35.7-perf-CL562111.zip
Flash this kernel from CWM recovery... Reboot phone, go to cyanogen setting/Performance & you should get the full cpu range for OC...
To see stable max OC set governor to "Performance"... Remember, only increase cpu frequency a little at a time & test for stability before increasing further...
Only when you have found your max stable clock speed can you tick "set on boot"...
FYI : OC kernels can only be used with custom roms... They will not work with stock roms... @Ketut's OC kernel will only work with CM7.1 / 7.2 Roms... Do not try with any other rom...
Stay Breezy n Be Lucky...
Pe"ACE"...
Thanks for your help but .. same problem
I even cant get it to 800Mhz Default Clock

Hey Dude...
This is a very strange problem indeed... The Armv6 cpu is standard 600mhz cpu but samsung factory OC it when it is used in our aces... so we end up with an end-user frequency of 806mhz... Yours won't even reach that out of the box...?
Do me a favour... Flash this rom here : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/44779766/IceCreamSundayFinal_Tweaked.zip
It is IceCreamSunday Final by @Jusada... It is considered the fastest & most stable rom available on XDA & the OC kernel is inclusive of the rom...
Once flashed, go to cyanogenmod settings, performance, cpu & tell me what frequencies you get offered...?
FYI : It doesn't matter what your baseband or firmware version is... Ensure that you are using CWM 5 to flash with... Also ensure that before flashing you do a full system, cache, data, Dalvik wipe to ensure a clean flash... This rom is 7.2 btw...

I dont know whats my phones problem but it dont worked for me -.- even max. 600Mhz...
But great thanks for your help!
LoL the first thing that entered my mind is "maybe samsung forgot to overclock" my suggestion is go to samsung and tell them to overclock that.. or simply say it's defective
approach samsung and get new phone..
man if it showing 600 dont overclock
as overclock can damage your cell
be happy with what you are having

but he should get 800 which he paid for
hey wait isnt ace's cpu like the 600mhz ones but only OC'ed to 800?
I'm done explaining
A fault with the processor probably.. ARMv6 anyway has 600Mhz by default and Ace has been factory overclocked to 800Mhz.. which is the simple reason why each Ace is so different and has so many problems regarding battery life. Overclocking is a delicate procedure..
To the point:
Just take it to the service center to get what you paid for!
Hi ,
I have a few begineers questions , I have a galaxy s that is running gingerbread 2.3.6 , is rooted and had a voodoo kernel (with recovery option) . I was thinking of possibilities of overclocking , can that be done with the setup I have ?
thanks in advance
You can easily overclock your phone with a root access with an application like this :
bit.ly/fnUFCD
There are lots of applications existing.
You can see on your kernel thread on this board what frequency is supported.
try Tegrak overclock or NSTools. Find other apps on Market.

thanks for the info guys , installed busybox and android overclock , but appears the kernel is not able to be overclocked as I got a message and the max frequency showing is 1000 mhz , would anyone be able to recommend a kernel that would suit - would like to keep things preety simple and straightforward at the mo
cheers

Semaphore is the best http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
thanks again , my phone is showing jvz suffix at end of kernel - show the semaphore jvz is the way to go ?
I am trying to avoid an expensive paperwight
Semaphore kernel can work on all gingerbread roms. So it is safe to flash semaphore 2.5 on your phone.

Will overclocking the phone significantly reduce battery life? Or cause any degradation of the phone due to excess heat?

Battery use will obviously be higher with the processor on more clock speed but there's no problem with the temperature. Remember, always overclock in minor steps, check stability and in this way you would get a stable phone
Galaxy note Gt n7000
Cleanote4
notecore 11.1
ICS 4.0.4
i TRY to overclock my phone but it wont work it... actully it work stable 1600 but when i open an apps or an game suddenly change to 800Ghz
even in set in performance stil go back to 800ghz its like its the defult setup.... and when i dont use over clock its like desime in ondemand its like more better if i dont overclock but when i play game app it will really lag beacuse my phone will suddenly run in 800ghz i dont no why pls someone help me
PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS HELP

i use ondeman or performance but when im doing games... i put it on performance it goes 1600ghz but when im start open the game its suddenly change to 800ghz i check it in cpu spy i dont know whats happining but someone tel me that my kernel is not superted by oC but i download the netcore .v11.1 OC
but still no change
Have open bootloader, but i want to know if it will be safe to overclock it beyond the 1.4 GHz it currently has, i assumed that the gpu that it comes with could be clocked alot more out-of-the-box but that's my opinion.
Any ideas?
There is no locked bootloader on Samsung devices, think you mean you have root. Overclocking only possible with custom kernek and we do jot have such one...
