Hi all. I came from the Droid X and I really miss the Motorola Multi-Touch keyboard. How can I get this keyboard on my thunderbolt?
I tried installing it using the link that Droid-life posted a while back, but it force closed like crazy.

Only way I've found so far is to download Smart Keyboard PRO. I've tried to use the methods from the evo forum, read the entire thread, even tried to splice it in myself and use user made .apk and .zip files.
wow, it seems like its pretty difficult... i'm currently using the htc_ime mod that came with virusrom. it seems pretty good, i just don't like where the button to switch to number input is. other than that, its pretty good. thanks for your help guys.
i wish someone would figure it out, i had a moto, and put the multi-touch keyboard on my incredible as soon as i got it. I really like that keyboard better than any ive had, i'll use the gingerbread til someone figures it out though...
still waiting....
Just get smartkeyboard there is a Droid x skin looks the same.

I am not sure but I believe your refering to swype.
Swype well... it's in beta now. You can find .apk's for beta versions for different screen sizes resolutions, some of which seem to work better than others. XDA doesn't allow anyone to post links to swype .apks until swype leaves beta. The swype developers got pissed off that so many versions were posted here in the dream sapphire forums. I'm sure if you google you can find one that works on this resolution though
The droid x comes preloaded with swype, just go to menu>laungauge/keyboard, and check the box for swype. No need to look for the keyboard. If u have a droid x u have swype.

*sigh* Guys I know what swype is. The Captivate that I played with the other day had its own implementation of the multitouch keyboard, that is what I'm talking about.
yeah i know which one you are talking about. it looks exactly like the iphone keyboard, and i do mean exactly. jon4lakers did a comparison on youtube of the 2 phones and you can see them side by side at 19:47. i know they have a skin for the galaxy s look so i'm sure someone is working on the keyboard.

Ya this keyboard is amazing.

Am I missing something?
This lagged like hell on my TB and has no editing KB or one with convenient numbers.
Is there a swipe gesture to bring up other stuff or something like in swype?

Not sure what your referring to but i know with the tb when you double tap on a word to get the other words to pop up, the copy paste and input pop up opens also..
Blocking the words Swype is suggesting..
when you Swype with this keyboard it leaves a list of words to choose from.. no double tapping needed.

Edit: pros survives reboot, you can use the stock messaging app ( spacing and auto caps work)
Cons: no editing keyboard, you'll need to use the stock editing. (Long press on a word and use the window to get to the letter you want or use the pointer and drag to the spot you need to edit)
With the day of use I have in I'm pretty impressed there aren't any bugs. and it seems to have learned my words already. And if it doesn't the list above that it builds scrolls and has had the correct word in it.
I'm now used to the stock editing, where before I would ignore it and thought it was redundant. It is easy to use and I don't see this as a fault

In the market.. flex t9
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Not to sound cheap or anything but 5 dollars is a little much for a keyboard.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I've been using flex T9 for nearly a month. Push the flame icon for text to speech. I love it!

I can't see how you could call it warez if you can pull the apk from a dump. Sure, it's in the market but why spend 5 damn dollars on it if you can get it from the double shot rom. Makes no sense to me. Glad I found this thread before the apk got pulled.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Just downloaded the apk will post it when my computer boots up since it is readily available for free.
Edit: Just attached the file. Obviously if any mods believe this to be against some sort of license feel free to take it down just believe since: Rom = Free, File is inside Rom, File (Should) = Free.

Speech to text don't work and free keyboard a little buggy. Better than swype. Buying app to support developer. Need someone to start theming!

In the market, for $5 I believe.
t9 keybd.

So this is my first phone that doesn't have a physical keyboard and I'm having some trouble. I came from both Droid one and two and the LG touch so I have always had a physical keyboard and now without one I'm somewhat lost. So please anyone with a keyboard app recommendation please speak up!
P.s. I have big hands and tend to hit the wrong key because of that.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Swift key. It learns as you type. Once using if for a while it predicts almost everything you are going to type
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA App
I use flext9 because you can swipe the keyboard or use the keys normally, way smoother than swype IMO.

swype http://swype.com
Definitely swift key! It's so good at predicting your words that some times it feels like it's reading your mind.

I've been using the gingerbread keyboard found in market. I find it fast and accurate.

+1 for swift key.
Well I already had swift key from it being the free app of the day so I loaded it up and started using it again and so far so good everything is at least better than the stock htc keyboard so I'm at least happy about that.

i really like and use smart keyboard pro, love the skins you can put on it and it just does what it needs to do for me

+1 been using this one as well and I love it. its called "keyboard from android 2.3 +" in the market. when installed it shows up as "gingerbread keyboard"
+1 for flex t9 if you like swyping or swift key for just regular keyboard use. Although t9 can do both, just doesn't predict.

+2.. I use the paid version, so I can bring up the directional arrows as needed. At $0.99 it isn't bad.

+3 lol paid too, deff worth it.
Keyboard from Gingerbread 2.3
There's a free and paid version. Best keyboard available.
+4 for gingerbread keyboard
i love how fast it is
I've also been using the gingerbread keyboard from the market for a while now (even back on my Droid X) and I love it.
I have used swype, swift and the GB keyboard.
For texting, landscape or portrait they are great.
The problem is for emails. Once you lay the phone over to landscape and start to type an email, the kbd takes up the whole screen. Is there a way to shrink the keyboard say 20% or so?
I got Gingerbread, the paid one
I had the G2, and Swype sucks on a bigger screen in comparison, not to mention Thunderbolt doesn't even come with it. I downloaded it and said wtf is this. Idk if its the screen or just not being pre-installed
I use the HTC_IME keyboard

I know it seems frivolous, but I've been using a Droid X for the past few days and while I firmly believe Samsung's Gingerbread is better (by miles), the Droid X has a screen rotation animation and it's a really nice little feature. It's very similar to the animation Honeycomb uses. Now I have all the frameworks extracted and I've decompiled "services.odex" to see if I can find out where it's at... I see a lot of UI smali's but I'm unsure of which one it's in.
If anyone would know where to look (specifically), or would be of any assistance, it would be most appreciated.
Or can this even be realistically incorporated into Samsung's frameworks?
I know what your talking about and it looks really nice. I hope someone can do this too.

I hunted around a bit for ya and I didn't have any luck finding anything. I personally use Swiftkey X and think it is by far the best keyboard out there. There's a 1-month free trial in the market.
Otherwise, there's several potential keyboards discussed here and here.
I prefer the "Gingerbread Keyboard" in the Market.. it is the AOSP keyboard for Gingerbread. I like it better than Swype or LG's stock keyboard.
oops.. actually it is just "Keyboard from Android 2.3" in the market by Steven Lin
Yeah that's what I use as well, I like it a lot.
