[Q] Changing boot animation for stock froyo, samsung galaxy s i9000 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am currently on stock froyo and wanted to know how to change the boot animation for my phone.
I have heard that all you need to do is replace the bootanimation.zip file but when i do go to /system/media folder, all i have relating to the bootanimation are these 2 files:
1. bootsamsung.qmg
2. bootsamsungloop.qmg
So what am i supposed to do now?
Please help!
P.S - sorry if this thread is in the wrong place.

Rom Kitchin update zip boot animation only is the easy way .
Themes section has info on themes .

Thanks. Flashed new ROM from the kitchen and changed my bootanimation too

any news?
hey, i was wandering maybe you guys can help me with that..
i have he exact same problam, it's just that i dont want to change the entire ROM just for the boot animation, any chance you know how to change it?
thanks!

same as jje said
update.zip made in romkitchen boot animation only

thankd dude, no "hard" way i guess...
i've been reading a lot about the issue and it seems no one has yet cracked it...
:\

cracked what issue ??
i dont know what you mean, there is no issue, if you want to change boot animation ONLY then do it in the ROM Kitchen. you DO NOT have to flash the whole ROM again.

Problem is that the update is missing from the kitchen for some reason .

oh i see..... My bad, i had no idea
maybe OP could download basic ROM with desired Bootanimation, then extract and push through root explorer.
longer than usual process, but depends on how desperate they are for new animation.

How do i remove the themes?

Hi i love all the themes and mods on here. I keep trying them all.
One question though?
How do i remove what i install. At the moment i`m having ro reinstall my MCR everytime i want to go back to how my phone was before.
If you make an Update of MCR, the Theme ist still original.
You must du nothing else.
Ok, only thing is i dont have an update file on there. I wiped my memory card last night and i cant remember how i got the update zip on there or where from.
go to modaco and download it again?
i`m getting confused here. My phone is rooted, and i have the modded custom recovery image on there. But i dont have an update zip file on my sd card. Like i say i have to reinstall the MCR 2.9 zip file to remove the modded themes im installing.
Do i need the update file on my sd card?
Is this all i need to do to install the original theme?
There are two Ways to get the original Theme:
First and easiest ist to reload the MoDaCo Rom from this Page an copy that to your SD Card and Install it new. Then you have the original Theme.
Second is to look here in this Forum. In one Theme Thread is a Download Link for the Original Theme.
First way is the easiest way.
just install the mcr as you did before, if you deleted the update.zip you need to copy it again to your sdcard like you did before. just make sure you use the same rom as before, then everything will be as before.
Right so what your all saying is reload my Modaco Rom again.
Thats the best way then?
Well its the way ive been doing it anyway.
Hoped there was an easier or quicker way.
Thanks everyone for your advice and help.

[Q] Update.zip doesn't apply when attempting to mod battery

I wanted to apply one of the battery mods to my captivate i896 (running the stock rogers rom), specifically version E.
I tried using the UOT Kitchen website at first but that failed. So then I tried to do it myself, but that also fails. Something seems to be going wrong when I try to apply the update.zip I have and I see no error output to help me trace it. Here's what I've been doing (when I tried it from scratch):
So I downloaded the related zip file from the second post, "scbm_E_grey_number.zip".
I then used "Android Theming and Tweaking" to get the framework file from my phone, and decompile it. I replaced the corresponding .png and .xml files from "scbm_E_grey_number.zip" to the appropriate folders in the decompiled folder from the ATT software. Then using the same software, I compile the framework apk again.
I then use the update.zip creator. I create a "framework" folder in the "placehere" folder for the update creator. Inside the framework folder I placed my new APK. I then ran the update creator to generate a new script, which copies from "framework" to "framework" on SYSTEM. Finally, I have it create the update.zip for me.
Everything is fine up to this point. I place the update.zip on my SD card, boot my phone into recovery, try to flash it...I get the following:
Code:
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
I've tried this a few times with no luck
I'd like to figure this out in the hopes that I can do some mods of my own in the future, so any help would be great Thanks!
If you ever figuered this out please let me know too, i am having the same issue. I am using a Captive that I just restored with Odin. I unroot it and remove the applock on it. I get the same installation aborted issue. I then tried to install it with ClockWork recovery... that just crashed my phone and I had to reinstall again. So if anyone know what the problem is please chime in.
Can't theme the stock rom. It has to be a deodexed rom, which is essentially all of the custom ones. Also, don't flash mods through the stock 2e recovery, you want to do it through CWM.

Hmm I see, thanks for the info... there was no odex file for that particular file, so I thought I'd be lucky and it was possible :/
And, why should you use CWM to flash instead of the stock recovery?

No problem. While on the topic, is that thanks button new, or am i just blind, and missed it all this time?
It's something about signatures, if I remember correctly, though, that may be 3e. I think part of it is that it's just typically done with CWM.

Eh, I'm hesitant to flash a custom rom. I have a rogers captivate and don't want to be stuck with an at&t boot screen (in case I need for repair or whatever) and I don't want to be stuck with poor GPS performance (as mine works VERY VERY well right now).

AT&T boot screen can be replaced, but you have to do a whole bunch of Odin stuff to get there. Also, that's because we(I'm on rogers as well) have a tweaked modem.bin. You can flash that, or one of the jupiter/JM9 fixes to get similar gps performance. But obviously, it's your choice. You are messing with a quite expensive piece of hardware. However, if you want to apply mods, you need to get a custom rom.

I'd love to have a set of concise instructions detailing all that...but everything is all over the place and difficult to find :/ Right now I'm just mostly reading up on things and trying to learn
There's instructions in the dev forum. If I wasn't on my phone, I'd grab the link for you. As far as learning, you just have to spend hours and hours on here.

Removing Apps and Boot Animation

I just installed Dark'y ROM on my Bell Canada SGS and have a few questions.
1.) Is there a way to remove ROM apps? like Layar or MIUI Music?
2.) I just got the SGS and still not board of the SGS boot animation, although Darky Animation is cool i would like the original S animation.
3.) Any cool Live wallpapers or Apps you as a SGS owner can suggest i install?
Yes but you need to either ask Darky or learn how to remove stuff from a ROM and resign it .
SGS Tools may help from the phone likewise .
Root Explorer will let you delete Boot animation

for live wallpaper, you can try Solar Winds it is free on the market

[Q] MCR script missing

hey guys, just rooted my Samsung Captivate. Everything has been going great till now. i Downloaded a lagfix, which is honestly the main reason i rooted my phone. however after everything (yes, i did everyting right) i didnt have the app that was included in the .zip file iput in my phone. the app is called MCR scripts.
i did some reseach and i found this key line
"*** If MCR Scripts DOES NOT show up, its probably because you don't have the non market install hack on your phone. In the update.zip you can find the apk and install via ADB, but I didn't do it this way. ******"
in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750869
so how do i just get the MCR scripts? i downloaded tayutama's zip file and i found the folder named "scripts" with the 3 files in there but they are .sh files.
so what do i do here? do i need to convert then to apk or something? please help!!!
forgot to mention...because i have a captivate i can not just go to setting/applications/ and choose for any app to be allowed or what not. i simply do not have that option. i use android central to get my apk files working on my phone. I have tried to run a zip file that will just let me install the apk file on my phone with no need for a computer. But that was to no avail.
bumping this.....this forum moves fast haha
thats an old thread and deprecated now im sure. why not flash a kernel with voodoo enabled? That would be a much safer and logical approach
woooah what?
i would like to get all technical and hardcore with this rooting thing but step by step lol. I'm still in my beginning stage i have a lot of experience to be earned ahead of me. is there no way to just get the mcr scripts as an apk?

have a look at the date on that thread, and the FIRST LINE in the thread asking to be deleted....
right, i didn't notice that...wow. either way that new thread the link is dead. and for me to run that packaged zip file i would need to completely set my phone to stock, nor do i know how to do that. Im simply asking for just the MCR files in apk format if that is possible at all. If not then can you please point me in the right direction? Thank you for all the help so far, i truly do appreciate it.
i guess the real question here is what is your ultimate goal?
you want froyo? install a rom (most everything on the dev forum will install a lagfix for you, click on the link in my sig)
you just want a 'lagfix' on stock eclair? install a 2.1 kernel with voodoo
rom would be customizing the android correct? like a new home layout and what not? That would be cool but im happy with what i have...i would just like to be able to download any app for free. and get the lag fix. i got the first part down (apps for free) by rooting the phone, all i have to do is get the apk downloaded on my comp then run android central to install it on my phone.
so i download kernel with voodoo, is it just a drop into internal sd...same as when i rooted my phone? then go into recovery and choose reinstall packages?
ok found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784170
sooo i would definitely be installing the one WITHOUT the back light notification, as...my hpone doesnt have leds. Hopefully it works for all galaxy s phones because this seems to be for only the 19000 captivate? while i have the sgh captivate from AT&T.
3rd page in less than 24 hours...wow lol
so at this thread
http://project-voodoo.org/download
i downloaded the lag fix for my phone which is like near the bottom of the page. i renamed it to lag fix zip file tp "update" but since i have the other files that are also renamed to "update" like for my rooting and stuff the file ended up being update(3) idk if that makes a difference but when i booted my phone from recovery mode after choosing resinstall pacakges, the phone boots up normally no long pause durgin the at&t screen or anything so i know the lag fix didnt work...also because the phone is still...slow. helllp! please.
you need to remove ANY other update.zip files from your phone and rename THAT file to update.zip
then reinstall packages
once you have installed an update.zip it is no longer required on your sdcard
thats what i was thinking, just wanted to make sure. Ill check back once its done thankyou.
YES!!! i knew it was going to work when i heard the freaky computer lady's voice haha. Even still, i didnt notice a HUGE improvement, my quadrant score is a bit dissapointing only 1400...
yea, so do you guys think i should maybe overclock? its still laggy/slow to me. Im sure becuase of the preious iphone usage lol. whats the best way to o/c? i heard that the overclock app isnt very reliable...i know , i know, overclocking itself isnt relable but are there other ways about doing it?
off your original topic ...
understood. making a new thread.

[Q] Boot Animations

I asked this in the DINC2 forum but I'll ask here since the phones are practically the same.
Has anyone tried pushing boot animations yet to data/local? I know at one point this didn't require root but I don't know if that still holds true for newer Sense based phones.
yes works on rooted and custom rommed Inc S. Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088498 post 2, quote 2.
Believe that on stock roms bootanimation.zip is /system/customize/
I've done so quite a few times.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14924283&postcount=83
Step 7 is for boot animations and Step 8 is for the splash screen. I've added some sources as well where you can get some bootanimations and even splash screens to start off with (though I created my own custom splash screen )
would be awesome if some created a thread just on boot animations and splashscreen images. I'd like to remove the htc splashscreen at startup and shut down and replace it with something customized.
You can download 47 different bootanimations from UOT Kitchen.
After download just extract the bootanimation.zip and copy it to your rooted phone.
