Dont wait for root, you need a s-off first...
NO WAY yet for a ordinary user to get s-off without charge.

new:
upload recovery, boot with adb root, and a root zip. If you already got a s-off you can enjoy this.
Attached in #16.

s-off, make a recovery, flash recovery, root. I can upload my recovery but it's useless for s-on user.
You have to pay $ to somebody to get a s-off.
for chinese:
水货商那里可以s-off,他们放出root信息只是想出货,只有他们卖的手机有root,所以不要傻等了亲,还是等牛逼的大神们研究出通用的off方法吧。

IMHO you are asking in the wrong place, mainly people here are gathered to look for a free software solution.. if you are desperate to root your IS them pm the chines chap

What do you mean by "not public yet"? Does it imply there's gonna be a software root released? (well, not found by our members on XDA who are working on it I mean)

He just a mobilephone seller, and have Special SIM/XTC Clip. I dont think he have this ability...
s-off can use...
PG32IMG_boot_adb_root.zip, boot.img with adb root;
PG32IMG_recovery.zip, my mod recovery, which "reboot" may not work;
IS_Root_signed.zip, flash it with recovery you can get root.
(Sorry for forget this: This PG32IMG_boot_adb_root.zip mod on "PG32IMG_Vivo_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.38.707.1_Radio_Radio_20.23.30.0802U_38.02.01.11_M_release_172598_signed", if you are not this rom and flash it, you may can not open wifi. to fix, you can flash back you boot.img, or change tihs bcm4329.so in /system/lib/modules)
Has anyone tried these files llnhhy just posted?
hehe,
good job from xtc clip

Hi to the Incredibles
Just coming from a Legend and I must say I love the IS.
Now like all of you I'm waiting for a method to get root.
Sorry for my newbish question, but are there any differences in XTC clips around, anything to watch out for?
I'm playing with the idea of buying one together with a few friends who also got Incredibles and too much money obviously
I'm not entirely sure though, since with such a device it won't be so much fun anymore to follow the guides et.c.
If You have posibillity to buy this clip, just buy it and You won't regret.
Regards!

Hey,
i now got my PAYG XTC Clip. The thing is i don't really know how to use it Is there some kind of Tutorial on it? Do i loose all my Data if I S-Off the device? And is the device rooted right after the XTC Clip is done, or do I have to install something else?

Here's a vid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLWtIzOkEbI The guy uses a DHD, but this shud work for Incredible too. I think you need to update the software, but sing the payg is new, it might have the latest sofware on it. Google that. There's a good chance you'll loose your phone data so backup. No chance to loose SD card data as you have to remove it. Also, you have to root it separately, maybe superoneclick will work. Here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682. THANK IF I HELPED
Hi guys ,
Sorry if this is a noob question. I am wondering how it would be possible to remove the bloatware on my incredible s with Bell. From what I understand it is impossible to do right now since there is no root yet for this device. Am I wrong ? is there a way to go about this?
Thanks
Mario
You need an XTC Clip to get you S-OFF, afterwards you can root and do anything you want. But this question belongs into the general subforum.
Ok . Can you just explain to me what S-off means?
Security OFF..
When you buy a new HTC phone, it's S-ON, which basically means that the internal memory is set read only at boot time, so you can't get write access to the system partition which is a requirement if you want to root your phone.
HTCs bootloader is terribly signed on their new phones, so that it's extremely difficult to hack. That's why it can only be done with an XTC Clip at the moment.
An XTC Clip is a piece of hardware that sells around 150USD (full version).
There's also a new one called XTC pay as you go which comes with only 1 "credit" to unlock 1 phone. This version is only about USD40 or so..
Best is to get someone in your area that owns such a clip to do that for you.. afterwards you can root and install custom roms and remove bloatware with titanium backup or freeze bloatware using any freeze app on the market..
Thank you buddy!
Except that, as of today, the Incredible S from Bell is not compatible with XTC Clip:
http://forums.phone-tools.cn/showthread.php/37528-Bell-Incredible-S-and-XTC-Clip
So you'd better wait before spending money on a XTC clip yet.
If your have a Rooted phone, isn't it possible to remove blotware with Titanium Backup Pro?

S-Off doesn't really have much use on this phone. Since it's Qualcomm, kernels can be flashed in recovery anyway, and the only real reason for S-Off would be to downgrade to previous firmwares.

so if I use HTC.com to unlock it, I will be able to flash roms and stuff from recovery as normally I do with my HTC 4G LTE ?(been doing it with the EVO and EVO 3D also)
i think the s-off method is preferable above HTCdev.
Warranty wise that is.
if you are s-off you won't be registered @ HTC for having unlocked your bootloader and thus reduced your warranty...

what if you don't want htc to know that you are rooting your phone for warranty purposes
any way of doing this? anyone working on s-off?
No idea if the phone has had a chance to reach anyone outside of the EU (and slow roll out even over here.)
I'm guessing that when the phone is in the hands of a lot more people the race will be on to be the 1st to deliver s-off.
Until there's a desperate need for me to flash an updated radio or maybe a bootloader I don't appear to need it though.

Are there any custom ROMS for salsa which is rooted but S-oFF?>?
To install custom-ROMs you need S-Off or an unlocked Bootloader. What does your bootloader show (which version, s-on/s-off, **locked**/**unlocked**)?
Those ROMs come often with Root but sometimes you have to install Root access manually.

ROM's do not come with S-OFF, you make it S-OFF which isn't a good idea personally, i know this from experience. as i am S-OFF and have unlocked bootloader.

NO because that would be infringing the XDA rules(Search function or check other Salsa rooms)., and YES I'm sure or we wouldn't be sitting here with a custom rom and huge internal space.
My HTC Salsa touchpad becomes insensitive. some keys doesnt work occasionally.

Being fair, i request you go back into our general section and search for it.
If you don't know what root is, i'd suggest you find out before venturing any further.
But to flash u have to unlock your bootloader, and then flash a recovery program. Lots of guides in the main sections, use search if lost.
The guides were made by me and designed/written so a kid can follow it. If you get stuck in some places i can help you. But if you haven't a clue, read first then attempt it.
I'm always around, so if your desperate PM me or Email me via my profile. I am on Hangouts(Talk) also using [email protected]

So long story short I don't want HTC to have any info about what I'm doing with my phone because I've had a major issue with that in the past and I want to unlock it, root it and get s-off still. So with having a completely stock m8, sunshine is the way to go for me? Sorry if someone already posted something like this.
You can try Firewater first since it's free.
Am also sure you need to be rooted to s-off which means you need to unlock the bootloader using htcdev.

If Firewater had worked for me I would've been more than happy using HTC Dev with it. Just because you are requesting an unlock code from HTC does not prove that you actually used it so it's debatable whether using it or not has any real impact on their knowledge of your intended uses for your phone.

I personally had a horrible coincidence where my phone was not properly functioning from day 1 and I happened to have used htcdev so they had more than enough reason to blame me for the faulty components and charged me money to fix it since unlocking it voids the manufacturer warranty. So if you're fine with telling htc that you're unlocking your phone that's fine, I'm personally not going to do that again as long as I have an HTC device.

What state did you return the phone in? Was it still unlocked and rooted? S-Off? Did you attempt a faux-lock/s-on or anything like that?
To contrast some of the horror stories that people have regarding returning a HTC device for service, @Captain_Throwback has sent numerous devices to HTC and has never had an issue. His devices were rooted & S-off.
