Who rocks their Nexus S without a screen protector? - Nexus S Accessories

Who does not use a screen protector on their nexus s? My invisishield just got really bad so I took it off. I think I will get a new one but who doesn't use one at all? You have any scratches?

I don't use one. Have had my NS for 13 days and no scratches yet!

Why would you use a screen protector? It would totally negate the amazing oliophobic coating that makes this device so special

Ive never had a screen protector on this phone, and ive had it since the day it came out. Not a single scratch on the screen.
Of course now that i say that im going to scratch it tonight.

Had mine since release, not one scratch...on the screen.

I have a ghost armor screen protector and have been wanting to go no SP. Only thing stopping me are the painful pictures I've seen of the oleophobic coat wearing off.

I've had my Nexus One for about a year. I have a couple scratches on my screen even with Gorilla Glass. The scratches are definitely from keys. I also have a few nicks on the body. I went a month with a pouch/case and screen protector but after about a month I realized how you totally lose the design of a phone with cases'. So I think when I get my Nexus S, Im gonna use a pouch and just rock my phone fully NAKED, who cares if you scratch the screen or the body, Its just a phone. In about a year when your going to sell it, its already dated and worth little to nothing, How much is a 6/10 condition Nexus One Vs a 9/10 Nexus One?

im looking for a pouch too. i love the way the stock phone feels on my hand.
i'm not using any screen protectors for about a month, and no scratch till now

Because there are small spots on my screen where the coating is gone (or seems that way anyways). There are others who have experienced this also in the big "oleophobic coating" topic. It can only be seen under light in a certain angle, but it's definitely there. The screen protector negates the effect so I don't see it anymore. Weird, but that's why I use a screen protector.

No screen protector. No scratches either

I don't use a screen protector, had my phone since the week it was launched in the UK and I don't have any scratches on it.
I always think they look rubbish, no matter how neatly they are put on.

i dont even use one on my evo, unless your working in the trades I dont think most people will benefit from using a protector

No screen protector since day 1 in december, no scratches either despite some bad drops on concrete which have dented the plastic around the screen.
Glass is tough!

I think building up a castle around a phone is "iPhone user style"

Man, i use a TPU cover and an "Invisible Shield", both bought at ebay.
The TPU cover helps to prevent damage to the device as a whole while the Invisible shield protects effectively the phone screen (is made of a military material).
You can find those at the links below:
TPU Case: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250753752797&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Screen Protector: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220728211467&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Responding to your question: Yes! Definitely i think it's a best idea to have a cover and a screen shield, because otherwise your device will have a few scratches as the time goes by, even if you don't drop it accidentally. (IMO)
I have a protector on the back plastic cover but NO protector on the screen. I never use phone case. I always put the phone in my pants or jacket pocket. 3 months on & the screen is still like new.
Right now I'm using front and back but I want to take the front off just because the edge of the sheild getscrap on itand it annoys me

I roll au naturale.
Every time I get a new phone I usually end up spending over $60 on cases and screen protectors at the store, and within hours I just want to take them off.
So, this time... bareback.
No scratches on the screen, minor scuffs and micro scratches on back, one small indent on bezel. Dropped once onto linoleum.. no signs of damage.
Does the xtreme guard fit perfectly on the phone? I bought a 5 pack of some others on ebay, and they don't lay down all the way on the top and bottom of the phone. Because of the curve I'm guessing.
Also, is it a dry application?
On topic - I bought the phone last week and havent been using a screen protector. When I'm not using it it goes back into my belt holster case.

Really? I want to go naked but I'm too scared to. It feels like its going to slip out of my hands. But none of the cases do the phone justice. It just looks so nice naked.
And the screen protector...I have one and its annoying cuz it gets oily and smudges all over. But this phone is my baby and I don't want to scratch it.

not sure whether to stay naked or cover up ;-)
Had my NS for a few weeks (and lovin' it)
First I bought a leather flip case, then thought . . . why cover up such a sexy looking phone?
then after another week I got worried again and ordered a "S" curved gel case (that looks just as good as the phone), along with a car connector and a screen protector . . .
then struggled to get the case on ! (it's not gel it's plastic) and so stiff I'm scared I might break the screen whilst pushing the phone into it
and I always seem to get specks of fluff and little hairs under the screen protectors, so I haven't put that on yet
but so far my NS screen and body has remained scratch-free and shiny

It's a phone, do you want to preserve it perfectly for the next 2 years so that the person you sell it to benefits while you suffer with a bulky case and crappy screen protector? I've dropped mine on the bathroom tile screen down and there was no damage to the screen (some slighty scuff on the plastic). You're meant to use these things, not baby them, it's a TOOL. You'll get a new one in 1-2 years (less if you're like me lol).
Using ghost armor (invisible shield) on the screen otherwise its bareback. Keep it now in a plastic belt clip that newly came out on eBay. Funny thing...Sprint don't even have the holster for this new phone

Ctai. Wow. I always looked at nexus S as my phone (captivate) on steroids...unbelievable how they dont have g glass OR external sd. Back to topic...DEFINITELY use a quality screen protector. Otterbox commuter cases are usually pretty good looking and come with screen protectors. I have a cappy with g glass and would NEVER sport it without the proper profilactics.

I, personally, will NEVER use a screen protector. When I see friends of mine with a screen protector on their phone, it looks so ugly!
It might not be Gorilla Glass (although I doubt Gorilla Glass is more scratch resistant than 'normal' glass), but it does have this curve in the screen, and I tell you: that helps a lot.

I may be alone in this, but I think screen protectors are overrated. The biggest danger to the screen is shattering and no screen protector will prevent that. Unless you have diamonds in your pockets I cannot imagine scratching it without breaking it completely. .

That is a good point, which would go more towards purchasing a case rather than a screen protector, though i have a major pet peeve when it comes to my screen having any sort of scratch..let alone cracks..but IMO i do believe having a well made screen protector on or screens do provide a lesser chaw of getting cracks if the device were to drop!

I was using invisishield protector for a few a months. Was a pretty decent protector. Didn't tear, anti glare and all that jazz. I ended up taking it off about 4 months ago because the protector itself was scratched and to be honest, since I removed it I've been asking myself why I bought one in the first place. 4 months later, not a single scratch and I think I have enjoyed the phone more without it. Screen is clear, sharp and bright and still without scratches. Often put in my pocket with keys, lighter and other hazardous materials for out phones.

same here, what will be the point in selling a super scratch free 2 years old obsolete phone .....
just like the slightly scratched glass on my iphone 3gs I gave to my kids as an ipod touch
I see I'm in the minority here but screen protectors just don't have the same smoothness as the gorilla glass. Coming from a Samsung Impression it felt like I was running my fingers on silk. And after 4 months of always being on my person I can attest gorilla glass is pretty kick ass. I've dropped the phone onto a gravel street and got very minimal damage. Now mind you the phone bounced, landed and skidded about 10' on the kevlar back so maybe it was just a small miracle it didn't shatter. But the only damage was a small knick in the glass on the top corner away from the touch screen and a small dent in the metal around the face. The kevlar took no damage at all. I've also had in a pocket with loose change and keys with no effect.
Now maybe I'm just lucky but the kevlar backing and silky smooth touch of the gorrilla glass as opposed to having to change screens and getting a bulky case that won't fit the HD dock just aren't comparable.
I go a couple of scratches on my screen, probably from it being dropped in the gym and all that good stuff. I went ahead and got a Zagg screen protector off amazon. It's not too bad for the 10 bucks I spent.

In my opinion (which seems to differ greatly from many others on this board) I want to show off the beautiful glass back. What is the point of keeping it scratch free and uncracked if you are just going to keep it hidden in a case for nobody to see, anyway? This phone cost $350, I highly doubt there is going to be a huge resale value for it when it comes time for me to replace it with the Nexus 5 (or whatever they call it). I will use screen protectors for the front and back and call it a day. I figure I will buy a nice black TPU case after I break the back (if I ever break it, that is) to hide the cracks, but until then, leave it naked for the world to see.

After being accustomed to having my plastic Nexus S naked the whole time (and it taking a few big falls without a mark) I was so uneasy handing the N4 at first - it felt so fragile and hard to hold. Fortunately I received the bumper the next day, and this has made a world of difference. I no longer feel on edge every time I pick it up - I still think my naked Nexus S is more durable, but at least the bumper let's you still enjoy the N4's superior build.

@OP,
You're holding it wrong.
Like someone else said, I suggest a screen protector with a silicon backing. They are the best.
Silicon backed protectors leave no residue and the silicon will fill in scratches and make them invisible while the protector is on. Protectors that stick using static cling will not cover scratches, and other protectors that require water to apply are more trouble than they are worth, in my opinion.
I recommend these, when it comes back in stock that is:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AEU4OEE/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00
I have used their protectors on many different phones and I am always extremely pleased with the results. Unlike most non-body armor screen protectors, these come with protectors for both the front and back.
I'm not a case person. I tend to take care of my phones. I'd recommend front and back protectors, the Nexus 4 bumper, just cause it adds a little more protection and grip, without taking away from the looks of the phone, and just be as careful as you possibly can. I don't care what phone you are talking about. If you drop it right (or wrong rather) it will break.
Good luck.
Yes screen protector is a no brainer, glass can scratch even gorilla glass, not too bothered though although I have a case on order for it as my phone gets slung in a pack with a big bunch of keys and other stuff, it would look like a pile of pants in no time if I had no case.
Front and back glass looks like sex but is a little vulnerable

Anyone NOT using a screen pritector?

So is anyone using their phone without a protector and do you have any scratches yet? I remember using the original galaxy S for an year without one and I sold it with basically perfect screen (maybe some micro scratches). So how about the G2, do you thing it wiol scratch easily if kept in pockets?

I couldn't find a protector which fits properly so I'm running naked. No scratches here in almost 6 months. But I'm rather careful with all my phones. Phone always goes in an empty pocket.
after my Gnex got scratches from my keys (and I tried my hardest not to keep them in the same pocket) I got one for my G2. The Zagg hd is good if you have a case since the parts not covered are covered by the case

This is my first phone that I decided to go "naked" with. I am really careful and keep it in my pocket with no keys, change, etc. Unfortunately I did get one 1" scratch on the screen, so this "puppy" will scratch.
I removed the protector as it wasn't applied properly. I'm going to put a protector again, but it really feels much smoother without one. The funny thing is my Canon digital cameras both have 3" glass screens and no protectors and yet no scratches.

Carried a note 2 without screen protector in an OtterBox for a year, 1 small scratch in top right corner.
(had something else in pocket with phone - this is a no no.)
Carrying G2 for 2 months no case or screen protection, but I do recommend a case without screen protector.
the choice is yours, its a piece of expensive candy.
and so is flashing twrp, roms and so on.
I used to use zagg but didnt like the feel of it so I having been running my phone naked for the past few months. So far I only have noticed tiny hairthin scratches which arent a big deal for me.
I am considering getting a tempered glass screen protector since it will obviously feel like glass.

I got exactly the same situation. One scratch but almost 1,5cm long. It seems i need to forget about it still haven't found out when and where it happened. I think GGlass was better on my Samsung S2. I used it for almost 2yrs without any screen protector and no single scratch.

I have a few unnoticeable scratches.
I reapplied my screen protector no bubbles this time, seems like gg2 is not as durable. My galaxy S was indestructible. My sg3 was POS with gg2, so probably the same here. Thinking of some screen protector that feels like glass. Any suggestions?

Are you using your Nexus Naked? Whats it look like?

I bought my Nexus in march I thought i would love it. I tried it for two weeks and I hated it. I hated the build quality the way android works, it changed a lot since my eve days. So i gave it to my brother and took back my Z10. Eventually i got it back. like 4 weeks ago. And i gave back the Z10 then my friend wanted to buy a SGS5 so I told him to try out the nexus for two weeks see how he likes android now. He had the SGS2 and went iPhone. He returned it two weeks ago and cumulatively I've only ever had my nexus for four weeks. Ive started liking it.
I never bought it a case nor a screen protector. I thought i was going to sell it. Heck i couldn't return it because of some bulshevic that T-Mobile did.
My Nexus has been naked since March. It has been through three people and this is what it looks like.
One thing that Ive really disliked since i bought the device was how squeaky it is. Especially when slight pressure is applied to the camera corner. It bothers me to OCD levels

Is it just me or does your phone look really dirty? I'm not trying to knock you or anything. Anyways if I'm at work I have a case on my phone and screen protector. But if I'm just at home or out and doing whatever u take the case off. I'm considering taking the screen protector off though. Not sure I like it
Also what is that sticker on the back of your phone I don't have that on mine

Its dirty. I live in a desert and at night every surface outside is coated with a thin layer of dust which is why I put my Z10 case underneath the nexus to try and prevent anymore dirt.

I have a black bumper on mine. I was naked for about a week or two. It's still clean and everything

Pretty much the same that happens here in NYC with surfaces and dust after hours..
My OCD ripped that IMEI sticker off right away. That + clear back case = OCD off the charts for me. Lol.
Your phone held up surprisingly well though, with the back (camera area) looking slightly rough. Still, damn impressive for three different people.

I've bought a case and a glass screen protector from spigen a couple weeks after I purchased the n5. I seldom use the case and only got around to putting the screen protector on a month ago. The case usually just gets in the way, as I use a otg flash drive and it won't fit with the case. I prefer the size of the n5 without the case as well.

yeah that bottom part of the camera ring's anodization wore off within a week. I was not happy
Are you, your brother, and your friend alligators by any chance?
Mine was naked until I dropped it face down on concrete and screen did not crack so I keep the case on at all times

Ebay has this Sandstone Case for the nexus 5. (There's a thread about it somewhere) It's very slim and most likely will not protect it if you drop it but it is very very thin and mimimalistic if you still have a case for your phone.
I currently have a black and white version of those cases. And running a matte screen protector. I might end up changing the matte to a regular protector. I'm too afraid to run it with no screen protector due to the ability to scratch it. I had a HTC One S before and saw a tiny scratch and it bothered me the whole time I had it.
I've had mine since December and not a single scratch on it. I did however use the phone with a case half the time with a glass screen protector, the plastic ones just feel cheap and grippy on the fingers. Looking at the condition of the N5 next to my iPhone 5 and S4 makes me appreciate it even more.

It's got gorilla glass 3. No screen protector. Had a tempered glass protector on it. Just didn't like the feel. Had a bumper case on it too. But I just like it better naked. I's a commercial electrician and haven't got a scratch yet. I'm sure that isn't gonna last forever. But when I do I may put the case back on

What's the point of a case if it's not going to protect your phone

I have this Cruzerlite case and it's really good. I dropped my Nexus several times (), but nothing happened!
Also I'm using a screen protector. :good:

There's already a thread for this:
