difficult/easy way of putting market on honeycomb - Nook Color General

I read a lot of threads, about using ADB to push the google apps onto nook. I couldn't get it to work, probably because i suck at linux.
I ended up just putting the microSD card back into my card reader, copied the vending.apk etc to the apps folder, and stuck it back in the nook.
The apps were there when i rebooted, and work fine. (a few force closes elsewhere, but seem to only be after i've changed a setting. and the setting change stayed.)
Did i miss a thread about this, or get lucky? Maybe ADB has other uses but easy is worth a lot when hard doesn't work.

Revert from Apps2SD with Apps intact?

Sorry if this has already been asked before, but searching through multiple pages of results using multiple search terms I was unable to find the answer that I was looking for.
Is there a way to revert from automatic Apps2SD with Cyanogen without losing my applications.
Would:
adb pull /system/sd/app app
adb pull /system/sd/app-private app-private
Before a full reformat of my SD card to a single partition work?
I'm looking to keep all of my data and settings if possible. If not, I'll probably just end up staying with Apps2SD.

make sure you also pull /data/data since thats what holds all the data and settings
in app and app-private are the actual apks
an adb pull of the app, app-private, and data/data folders should be all you need after you finish reformatting your card
you can just use a program like appmanager pro to back them up and then use backup for root users to copy the app data, then transfer them to your computer, wipe your sdcard to a single partion than reflash your rom so it drops apps2sd then transfer apps back to fresh format sdcard, install apps then use backup for root users
Your pull commands will be successful in backing up your apps to your computer, however, you will have to reinstall them one by one using Linda File Manager, or similar program to have access to the package installer feature. I would say use something Backup for root users or Atrackdog which allows you to bulk reinstall. If you have a lot of apps, reverting back to using the phone's internal memory is obviously gonna force you to pick and choose which apps you want to keep.
Ahh. Thanks for the clarification. I might just stick with Apps2SD instead of going through all of that. I thought that maybe there was a way to push the applications to the internal memory of the card in order to completely skip the whole "reinstallation phase". If I do end up doing it, I might go with the batch reinstall process.
I'm not having many problems with apps2sd, I just figured the small benefits that I'm getting don't outweigh the fact that my SD card is getting taxed in the process.
Thanks for all of the helpful responses!
sd cards are cheap, by the time you burn that card out, bigger and better ones will be cheap too
I'm shocked with all the helpfull info grid is putting out.

Yeah that's true. I just had no scale as to how fast the cards burn out. Some people are saying they last years, some say they last only a few months.
I guess with the majority they last at least a year, which is absolutely fine by me. Thanks for all of the help!
i have had the same sdcard for over 2 years with no signs of damage or corupting
and once again preme, screw you

Emulators?

I'm loving my rooted Nook color, but was wondering if there's a way to get emulators, like Nesoid and Snesoid, to work on it? That would be sweet to say the least, and may even make on screen controls somewhat manageable for me.
I searched the forum but didn't see any threads about it.
just download them from market and put roms either on sd or interal media. easy as pie. to fix full screen install spare parts from market and disable compatibility mode. snes plays perfect. everything else should as well
Thanks. I tried putting them on my sd card, but I can't find them from the NC. I'll fiddle a bit though. I must be placing the roms in the wrong folder.
Edit: Still can't find the files on my sd card from within the NC. I have two folders, labeled SNES and NES, and I can't find either one. I tried placing them in the "My Files" folder, and nothing. Then tried putting them in the root of the sd card, and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Got it to work. Thanks
What emulators are working for yall?
I have FPse working with Bluetooth but not at full speed. Snesiod and Nesiod both work at full speed.
Has anyone successfully gotten the Wiimote to work w/ an emulator? I am currently trying to get it working with Nesoid, but no go. I can see that the keys are correctly polling on WiimoteControl, but once I set up Nesoid to accept bluetooth it will not actually recognize the keys under key mapping.
Got it, I didnt enable the correct keyboard (ie button 2) from within WiimoteControl.
Emulators
If you have SNESoid and NESoid, be sure to get ROM Gripper as well. You can go into ROM gripper from the emulators, and you can launch games from ROM gripper. ROM gripper will place the game ROMs in the correct folder.

USB ADB or file mgr & sd to install apps?

Can someone make a recommendation? I basically want to sideload some apk's & pictures, videos & books. I was using Calibre for sideloading non B&N books with Win Explorer for wallpaper. I was partially successful at getting USB ADB working, got driver working, but realized that Windows now does not see the NC as a mass storage device & Calibre will not ID it. Am I better off just putting apk's on the sd card & installing via Astro file mgr? Any insight on this subject is appreciated.
Thanks,
kev
I had that issue until I realized that
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
I had that issue until I realized my nook was not awake. Once I woke it up ut worked like a charm.

For me... Got my NC for Christmas ! I followed the BN instructions to download and update my NC to 1.0.1. I then followed the instructions for using Auto-Nooter and then these for setting up the USB drivers in Windows:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882751
And it works for all cases. I can use ADB, Windows sees it as a mass storage device and Calibre connects to it. Something could be wrong with your USB setup. Try checking out the thread I used.
OK, as long as Win. still sees it as before & Calibre still works, I will try to get ADB working over USB. Right now Windows "computer" doesn't see it, but it shows in Device Mgr as Android Phone/Android ADB interface. The NC is ON & displaying the USB mode screen. Since explorer doesn't see it, I can't eject it. As I said, I will back up & try the ADB setup again. If anyone knows what I did wrong, please speak up. I will be working on this this afternoon. Should I remove the ADB driver & start from the beginning?
Thanks,
Kev
Update: Got it working. At least it reported the serial number when I ran "adb devices". I can now see the NC in explorer & device mgr shows the device. I now need to learn to use these new adb tools. Any helpful instructions I can read?
Thanks,
kev
If using my computer and I find an apk. I want to install, I use dropbox. I then open dropbox on the NC download the apk and install it.
Also the Wireless ADB app works well too.
I honestly have no clue why so many people are mucking around with ADB and command lines. If people like doing things the hard way, fine, install apps via ADB, but there are much simpler ways to do things.
Yes, there are a handful of things that need to be done by ADB, but installing standard apps is not one of them.
EDIT: Reworded for clarity of target.

Well, I did ask for recommendations in the OP! Care to make one?
Cheers,

Oh, certainly, what I meant was a file manager is great for it, as it's the other method you mentioned. Dropbox is by far the easiest way I've found to move things from your PC to your Android device, too.
My comment about people "doing things the hard way" wasn't specifically directed at you, either, although upon looking back it does seem to come off that way. I'll fix it. Anyway, what I meant was that everywhere I go I see people posting very long sets of commands for people to type in to ADB or the Terminal so that they can accomplish things that are easily done with the push of a button or two in the appropriate app. And then I see lots of people responding with "It didn't work" which usually means they typed something wrong.
The command line is wonderful because it's so powerful and precise, but that doesn't mean it should be used for every simple task.
I find that the majority of things that I need to do can be done with Root Explorer.

Help - Amazon App Won't Sync

I have the Customized Nookie Froyo found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922324
I downloaded Amazon's Kindle app and it won't sync with a free book I tried to get. I uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled the app figuring it was worth a shot but that didn't work.
All the other apps I've tried appear to be working correctly.
Any suggestions/help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you have an SD card inserted? I noticed I can't get Kindle to sync or download books if the SD is unmounted or if there isn't one. The App must download books to SD instead of internal memory (kind of annoying considering how tiny books are...going to try tricking it into downloading to internal by creating a symlink)
Yes, the SD is inserted. The OS is running off the SD card and there appears to be plenty of memory. I'll have to double check that when I get home though.
I had a similar problem to this. Sync would not bring up my books. Then in the menu I found "Archived items" and all of my books were there then I was able to (re)download them and that brought hem into the main section in the Kindle app.
This is going to sound silly but how do you get in the menu? I don't see a menu or info button of any sort on the main Kindle screen. I'm sure it's probably really obvious and I will kick myself for not seeing it.
ETA: I just switched the Kindle app from the unit to the SD card and tried to send a (free) book to my NC again. It gave a sync error message and told me to try again later.
2nd Edit: I'm such a dork today. I found the menu. *smacks self V8 style*
I rebooted my NC and tried to sync again. This time it at least recognized the book but still wouldn't download. I'm on the wi-fi at work so I'll try this again when I get home where I have more control over the amount of bandwidth available.
ETA: I don't want to bump the thread but I do want to leave a note about the fix that finally worked in case others have this problem.
Go into settings>applications>manage applications>downloaded
Select Amazon Kindle
Under Data select move to SD card
Reboot
Open the Kindle App and it should sync after that.
Im having a problem syncing the Amazon App store to my nook table. i had my nook rooted and it was synced but i procrastinated and didnt put titanium on it and stop the OTA so i had to fix it. now everything is back to what it was but i cant get Amazon to sync this time. Is there something that i did to mess it up and can i fix it?

[Q] Getting sideloaded books into "Library"

This is driving me a bit mad.
For a while, my Nook (BN v1.1, nooted) didn't want to start up easily. If you rebooted, you had to go into Clockwork and then reboot again, otherwise it would get stuck on the intro screen.
This weekend, I decided to go back to stock and factory reset to start again. I updated the NC to v1.2 and then ManualNooted. Works great with one exception... I can no longer get ePub books that I load to show up in the Library.
I can get to them in the Library by going to "My Files" and hunting around for them, but I want them to appear "books". They used to do this and I can't figure out to get that functionality back. I've tried putting the files on a few different places in the Internal Memory and an SD card, but Library doesn't seem to find them.
Am I missing something stupid or did something change between the versions?
Thanks!
