I rooted my cdma hero almost a week ago, and things have gone okay. I've been running cm6. however, i recently noticed my phone wasn't ringing or anything when i had the volume all the way up. It only vibrated. I figured "well maybe I accidentally applied the 'silent' ringtone" so i went to check that.. only to find that all of my ringtones were gone! I proceeded to re-download a ringtone and notification pack, and put them in the /media/audio/ringtones/ and /media/audio/notifications/ directories. Still.. No ringtones! I tried using the dev tools app to do a media scan.. it says this: "sent ACTION_MEDIA_MOUNTED to trigger the Media Scanner." Nothing else happens. nothing changes.. so i backed up anything i needed and formatted my SD card. lo and behold, after putting the ringtones back on... nothin'. Can anyone help me? I'm really screwed if i can't fix this. Thanks for taking the time to read my life story, and thanks in advance for any advice!
EDIT: I also now noticed that if i open the music app, it says "scanning SD card" and does nothing else at all.
If your missing ring tones in your rom you can reflash the rom or try a full wipe then reflash the rom. As in wipe data,cache,dev-cache and sd-ext if you have one. What recovery are you running??? And what mods are you running???
Yea it's Me Again With The
Modified Hero

Hello, I would like to move my ringtones to the internal memory because I've noticed that since I started using Swap, It delays the ringtone from starting. This is what I observed, Randomly the ringtone starts after 2 or 3 vibrates, other times its not at all and uses the stock beeping ringtone (I guess since the SD is being used, it cant go in it and get the ringtone) So bottom line, My ringtones take a few seconds to ring after a few vibrates. I already know that I have to convert them to .ogg, but does anyone know another way to make the system pull up the ringtone faster?
I would like to know that myself. Im sick of having my default ringtone going when i selected a custom one for one of my contacts. whats the best settings for the ogg files too as this may be helpful to us both

Alright... So you wanna do this, here is what you will need:
*ADB Installed and working
*Root Manager of some sort
*Format Factory -This is freeware, so it's not warez.
1st, Download and install Format Factory. This is the program I use for everything. If you have one of your own preference, it can be substituded.
**Do a custom install, as this will try to install adbars otherwise. (You have been warned.)
2nd, Open Format Factory and click "All to OGG".
3rd, Select your ringtones and click "ok". On the next screen, click "Start"
4th, Open your Root Explorer program, I use Android Commander
5th, With your Root Explorer program, navigate to your newly created OGG files (normally found in Documents/FFOutput on your PC) in the Root Explorer.
6th, Move these files to /system/media/*** on your phone. And you are done.
Please note: ""***" represents the respective folders. i.e. "ringtones", "notifications", etc.
Hope this helped you. Click "thanks" if it did. - Any questions, ask.
EDIT: DO NOT change the OGG settings in Format Factory. They work fine at default. Once you get used to, and comfortable with doing this, then play with the settings to get your desired file size and quality.
I tried doing what you said, but although I successfully managed to push the files, they still don't appear in the ringtone/notifications menu

did you make sure the phone looked for new media, or restart ya phone? i had to do it with mine
I was going to say that I had checked the phone after restart and they still weren't showing up - but I double checked again and now they are. Thanks! I'm not sure how to check for new media, though - is there a procedure for this?
Been trying this using ES File Explorer but keeping getting a message that paste failed. Any ideas where i'm going wrong.
I have S-Off and root
you can try this, it a little easier if you have the tools but yoo have to reflash the rom so be sure to backup your apps, contacts blah blah blah...
1. unzip the 'rom.zip' file, open the folder and look for the system/media/audio folder
2. now you can add & remove ringtones, notifications, alarm sounds that you want or dont want...
3. zip the rom file back up
4. sign it with an auto sign program... (very simple to use)
5. flash rom and enjoy your customizations
6. restore your backed up contacts and apps...
(you can also remove some unwanted stock apps to save space, be sure not too remove system required apps though lol)
Cheers Idrifta, ended up getting it to work using Root Explorer.
o nice!!! haha good to know... better than my method lol
The following worked for me.. Check this
I followed a link and it worked for me on jfltetmo running on cm11-m9 and having twrp v2.8.4.0. I explained the steps in my answer here: How to install a ringtone into internal memory?. All the credit for the steps go to villo-2.
I've rooted so much and learned so much in the past month that I'd like to take that extra step. Opinions?
I'd like to try Cyanogenmod, but I've been failing miserably trying to put it on my device.
I've tried flashing it through this way: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide but I couldn't get ClockworkMod to reboot. Once I did get it to reboot I had a hard time loading or flashing Cyanogenmod because it kept saying that it failed to load and installation was aborted. What am I doing wrong guys? I'm following those instructions in the link to a T. I put the gapps file and the update cm 7.0.1 in the folder called the external_sd even though I do not have an external SD card, but I was guessing that's where the root of the internal memory is. Am I missing something? Is it really this hard? And is Cyanogenmod really worth it?
put the update/zip file in internal SD,not inside any folder.remove external SD card.now try flashing.

Couple things. When I connect my phone to the computer there is no folder that says internal SD unless the stuff that shows up with all the folders is the internal SD. I do not have a removable SD card.
Do I have to flash or wipe anything before I put the update/zip file on my phone?
Ok, successfully did it! I installed the cyanogenmod so I'll take it for a spin. However, there is one thing that I can't figure out. I'm trying to download all the Google apps from the market, but anything that I try downloading from the market it just stays in the downloading progress bar and nothing happens.
I installed the separate apk file gapps-gb-20110828-signed the same way I installed Cyanogenmod, but nothing. Can anyone help please? Also, I used the Navigation app a lot, but I can't even seem to find that one on the market...
Now it's working. Ok. Few questions for you guys. Any way to turn off an "LED notification" whenever I get a text message the bottom soft keys light up and stay lit up until I check the message.
Still don't know how to get the turn by turn Navigation application.
EDIT: How do you get Swype as well on Cyanogenmod?

I find that the stock keyboard is not the best. I've read that its predictive text and spell corrections is supposed to be good, but it looks like it's not picking up anything at all and it's not correcting any spelling. What gives?
Here's the deal....I went to system\media\audio\ringtones and deleted every stock ringtone....sense im running safestrap I also deleted from\preinstall.....rebooted but they are still in the ringtone list and still work....I don't understand how that's possible.... so I used mp3 download and deleted one from there to see if that would work and Bam its gone from the list.....but deleting them 1 by 1, having to scroll all the way back down to where I left off every time one is deleted would be a waste of my time not to mention drive me to possibly commit suicide.....both system\media\audio\ringtones folders are empty....Why in the hell are they still in the ringtone list and still frickin working.......
Try in the /mnt/sdcard/android/.....
That may be just notifications in that folder.. don't remember.

I had this happen to me a build or two ago, after some searching I found that I some how had a folder on sdcard with all the ringtones in it as well as them being in system media. After deleting the sdcard folder the duplicates disappeared. Hope that helps.

Sounds like this user found a solution.
Hi All,
I recently had to do a factory wipe of my phone and reinstalled my cm10 alpha ROM again.
But now, I have lost all my message tones and ringtones, like all off them. the only ones that I can select and use are
CyanTone
CyanMessage
I tried extracting the other files from the "cm-10-20120729-UNOFFICIAL-galaxysmtd.zip\system\media\audio\notifications" directory in the file and placing those into the notifications folder on my phone, but still nothing shows up when i go into the settings menu :S
Anyone have any idea's on what's happened or what can be done?
UPDATE:
I just flashed to the latest version of the alpha and everything was back in place
However once I opened Apollo, all my tones disappeared again :S
bump..
Hey
Have you tried coping it to the internal sd card??
Put notification tones in /Notification
and ringtones in a new folder (In Internal SD Card) as /Ringtones
then paste the files there and reboot...this could solve your issue..
Yeah already tried that. I think its an issue with the ROM itself. I'll live haha

I have factory reset the device 3 times deleted everything, flashed using ODIN but no avail. Any body has any solution for this?
I am using:
Stock ROM XXMEB5
Stock Kernel
Stock Recovery
EDIT: Finally Solved the Problem. The phone was not resetting properly, so for users facing this problem there are 2 possible solutions:
1. Flash stock rom, goto stock recovery and from there wipe data if CWM does not do it properly (In my case CWM did not do it properly)
2. The other solution, the info i figured out was that it had to do something with a folder in Android/Data directory. Try to delete folders one by one to see if this fixes the error
I recently updated OTA to 4.1.2 and have suddenly got this same problem today, im not technically that great so all i did was save the files i wanted to keep and did a factory reset but nothing has changed. I can open my pictures in Smart Gallery Lock Free but im also having the problem that nothing deteles properly, everything i delete re-appears when i re enter Smart Gallery
I have tried removing the files directly from "My Files" but it will only work on the extSdCard not sdcard0 its says deleted but doesnt go anywhere.
I have looked at point 2. but i dont know what i can delete without making things worse
Hope somebody can help
same problem in my SGS II, nothing woks, wipe data reset factory i have done every thing nothing works my only alternativ eis using quickpic app
