ok 2 questions
1 : Which is more stable, Gingerblur or ADEO?
2 : Is there a way to get the motoblur launcher back? i kinda liked it
Personally I preferred Gingerblur. Made me more at home comming from a cm7 desire

This should probably be in Q&A, but while it's here I can give you my .02.
I never used Gingerblur, but I had Adeo v.01, and I had zero problems with it. I was rooted, could sideload and tether with ease. If you want to keep Motoblur, then you can do so with Adeo v.01, .02, and I believe .03. I can't speak for the stability of .02 or .03, however.
Also, I don't know if you already have Gingerblur installed, but I have LauncherPro installed, and I have an app called Home Switcher that allows me to go back to Motoblur if I ever choose to. Maybe you can do the same with Gingerblur?

I thought that this should get its own thread. In light of recent events, i am now trying to try to port froyo to the dinc. If anyone is interested...well notify me
YES! Most Def.
I already have one person on my waiting list, so i take it that u want to be on my list, too?
Can you add sense to it...? Of course with the option to run it when you want

I agree 100%, nothing against the N1, but I would have gotten one if I liked the UI--I had enough of it on the G1, I'm glad to have a very fast sense and would like to keep it with 2.2!
I for one dislike sense. I prefer the stock vanilla ui, but if i can port sense to froyo than i wont hesitate in doing so
si senior.
vanillia Froyo all the way!!
Of course, sense with an official release of Froyo
I think this is a no brainer, most if not all want froyo
I like sense, but I would take it either way
A de-sensed froyo would be great. Even a de-sensed 2.1 would be nice. I really like the vanilla android
i'm definitely interested in some froyo action on my inc
If not full Froyo, at least its version of the gmail app to replace the stock one on the INC...
Vanilla android is awesome. I miss it after coming from the droid.
I've been waiting for froyo since the day I got this phone! So yes, count me in for wanting it!

I agree, which is why I don't completely understand why it needs it's own thread and why it's in the development section instead of general (since you are pretty much taking a poll).
If you are really going for a 2.2 port, I suggest getting together/talking to already well-known porters/Incredible coders if you aren't already, as a similar task may already be going on and the more the merrier (also faster =p).

+1 It's almost like asking if we want root... I doubt too many are hoping to install 2.0 or 1.6 on the phone.
Froyo allows rotation of the main android screens right? I hate that when my Inc is in my car dock(landscape) the main screens never rotate!
So yes, once I can get rooted, I would love Froyo for my Incredible. (I like sense too!)
TY
Hey rr12106 I would love to have froyo when its ready. Thanks for the effort.
I just saw a couple posts regarding CM6, but I'm running TheOfficial ROM from Enom and I love it. Flashed to CM6 just to give it a shot and I am indifferent on the matter... Maybe someone can provide some input on to why i should use CM6.
Thanks a lot
Zach
Both are very solid roms to use, last few months I've been using enomter's rom and changed a few things on that. CM6 just came out and its been awhile since I used a rom from cyanogen so I flashed it and currently been running that. Also changed a few things, added enomthers, kang o rama wallpapers, changed the phone to galaxy s phone, not sure what else Ive done so far.
Its all personal preference, I loved used enomthers themed version, cm6 has a themed version out as well and its very simliar to enomthers. Detail and very good looking eye candy and both run smooth. As of now I ll stick with cm6 till enmother gets updated reasons are:
Power widget:custom, choose what you want in the bar
power button: reboot, recovery bootloader (really liking this)
dial pad (prefered the custom) did push galax s dial pad on for now
cyanogen mod settings simple to use and like location
battery life is pretty solid as well
Of the two I prefer Cyanogen. But I am running InnovationOS and think it is by far the best.

hmm...
i may run cyanogen for a bit.
what does InnovationOS do that makes it better?
flash one for a week then switch to the other and see which you prefer. Both roms have so many little things that make each unique it would be much easier for you just try both and see for yourself which is better.

Here is the Enom one, he has said that he will update with a newer Alpha version tonight, best for you to just go with the 2.11.3 stable rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614427
just place it on the root of your sd card and (if your using rom manager) select install from sd card(be sure to both backup and wipe) the wipe wont touch your sdcard, only the phones internal memory
Also there is a themed version and a non themed version, ill let you pick
-cheers
I like InnovationOS because it has a sense like feel without all the glut. But it doesn't have all the tweaks of the others.

Yeah, thats another thing with Cyanogen i missed/mow have again was/is apps to sd. There is no way for me to activate apps2sd besides just the normal default way froyo lets you on TheOfficial. Cyanogen lets you go to town with apps2sd in 6.0.0.
I'm not sure how i am liking cyanogenmod 6.0.0 vs TheOfficial. There are a couple things i like and dislike, and a couple things that are the same.
I like the render effects in cm (it has cool renders, not just solid colors)
i DISLIKE ADWLauncher replacing the stock launcher. i have never liked this.
the trackball alerts are about the same.
I dont know. ill post more things as i see them, but i dont know where to be in terms of ROMs. InnovationOS just doesnt sound like my cup of tea
Well, it's just a personal preference... both are amazing ROMs... IMHO, enomther's is rock-stable... cyanogenmod 6 is more bleeding-edge (but super-stable none-the-less)... & you can remove adw launcher quite easily if you wish...

Not exactly sure what any of that meant, but in case you said: You can't use the ext partition apps2sd with Enom, that is incorrect. You certainly can, it's in his custom Spare Parts tool, like all of his other customization items.
I think he meant that for CM. I'm using Micromod now which is enom based.
The only thing that's holding me back from CM is that apps2ext.

When a custom recovery is made, we will start to see themes appear for the Thrill. Until then, I would just wait and play it safe by just theming launchers like ADW or Launcher Pro.

There's gotta be something up by now.
I'd focus more on stuff like using Standard 2.3 Froyo Themes. Which I don't know where to find. Any sauce on this guys?
Til then play it safe, I personally HATE launchers because they eat the Thrill's battery alive.

Its not the launchers that eat the battery, its bad coding and just froyo in general.

Go Launcher eats less of my battery than the stock LG one did.

We cane flash themes to custom roms already. You can't theme the stock rom because its odex'd. You'll never be able to theme the stock LG firmware as is out of the box.
As far as launchers eating battery, that's just nonsense. The launchers don't use battery. They use memory. But so does the stock launcher. The stock launcher is an app just like any aftermarket launcher. What uses battery is Widgets that need to update, and each launcher has certain Widgets active by default. Bit that can be changed. Of course a poorly coded launcher that doesn't allow the phone to sleep would cause battery drain, but I've yet to use a launcher that did so.
For the original poster, if you want to theme the stock firmware you will need to deodex the stock rom first.
If you're on a nonstock rom then check the Themes and Apps section for flashing themes.

Well from there it'd seem as if your only choice was to take and ROOT then flash the ROM.
Risk it? You tell me, I just need to find a ROM that changes the look of the bottom launcher. I hate how plain it is.
Aside from that, I hear the Doomed Froyo is one of the most slick ROMs and is bare boned stock along with your 3D, 3D Camera, & removed Bloatware.
You tell me? I want to go with it but haven't balled up to Voiding my warranty and not being able to return it if there's a future problem.
It's in your hands,
As far as launchers you'd be safe with Battery Life on the 'GO Launcher EX' works awesome if there's enough room for ya.
Have fun, tell me the end results?

Rooting 99.99999 % of the time won't brick your device... that 0.00001% is user error. Root just allows you to change system files... like making you an admin on a PC...
Once you have clockworkmod installed it is almost impossible to brick your device just by flashing a rom. Because you can just go back to cwm and restore stock or a working version... also root will allow you to use any of the custom themes i have made. And you can always go back to stock rom ... and unroot like from the store... doomed Roms are amazing especially the slim version...

First, I would like to thank Urabewe for all of his hard work in getting this ROM out here for our use. I feel it certainly does move faster than Thriller v1.1.0, but it's truly too soon to tell. I haven't dumped all of my apps onto the phone yet since flashing my Thrill 4G to this ROM.
Now I do have a concern with the current version of Froyo. One thing I liked about Thriller is that I was able to remove screens that I was not using, and I could also rearrange them with ease. I have not found a way to do this with Froyo. Is there a way to do it that I am just overlooking?
This n00b appreciates your help!
A friend who is less of a n00b told me that Froyo is older than Gingerbread so that is why he has never used it himself. So I am guessing it is just a limitation.

its not a feature of a specific version of android but of the launcher you are using... i cant remember what launcher thriller comes with but it isnt stock so you have bunch of cool features like removing and managing screens.. try a different launcher like adw or launcher pro from the market and you will get these features back
Is Doomed really faster than Thriller?
Is it as stable?

Okay so i had the revo before this and i liked it. I rooted it and it was great, ran custom roms, and really easy to do. I just got the bionic and i have had it for about 2 weeks now and I LOVE IT!!! So my question is, and correct me if im wrong, if there are no custom kernels, and only one stable updated rom thats not buggy ics, what is the point in rooting. I should add that i dont plan on using wifi tether. I mean i use adw so my phone already "looks" like i want it to, and acts like i want it too. The only thing i think i would use is the fact that the bloatware is gone but does it really make that big of a difference? I mean if i can like make the display look better or something than of course, but if its just for the look, no performance upgrades, i dont seenthe point. Please give me your guys opinion.
Thanks for all who respond and appreciate your time

Personally I haven't found the need to root my Bionic. Going on six months now I think. Had the Eris before this and rooted it to get a faster phone(Bionic is fast enough), to tether(Bionic can do it wired for free and wireless without root using FoxFi), to move apps to sd due to storage limitations (Bionic has plenty of room and lots of stuff can be saved or moved to sd). ROMs are a bonus, but they are always a work-in-progress and most being updated regular, so you always have to reinstall so more stuff will work. My Bionic just works.....................

Lots of programs will have more functionality when your device is rooted. If you use a security program like SeekDroid or Avast you'll benefit from root. With root you can install custom recovery, allowing you to backup/restore your entire system. If you haven't tried a custom ROM you don't know what you're missing. Sure they are always a work in progress, but so is the Stock ROM. Try eclipse I bet you'll like it better.
Let's flip your question around: what's the disadvantage to rooting? You can always unroot.

I'm rooted but use stock. I'm able to replace my boot animation with something more to my liking. My status and notification bar is also customized. Having pulldown toggles is nice for turning things on and off. Being able to flash the webtop hack is nice. I've also found that I enjoy changing my font.
Besides those things, its much easier to back up some apps when your rooted. If you ever buy any apps, I suggest backing them up. Being able to make system backups is also useful.
