I was able to get the hulu mod to work inside dolphin browser HD, and also the tethering option in the laptop dock to work, I used Ririal's script to root the phone on the latest 4.1.57 and then ran these commands in a adb shell as ROOT :
for hulu please updated flash player to 10.2 first in the market then apply the libflashplayer.so (can be found in the latest gingerblur package) file to lib folder of the flash player ::>
cp -f libflashplayer.so /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib
then we go on to unlocking the APN's and borrow some of the code from gingerblur mod from the addons batch file ::>
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 /system
cp -f sqlite3 /system/bin/sqlite3
chmod 755 /system/bin/sqlite3
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db "UPDATE carriers set preloaded='false';"
/system/bin/sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db "INSERT INTO carriers (name, numeric, mcc, mnc, apn, user, server, password, proxy, port, mmsproxy, mmsport, mmsc, mmsc2, authtype, type, current, preloaded) VALUES ('AT&T (FREE TETHER)','310410','310','410','wap.cingular','[email protected]','','CINGULAR1','','80','wireless.cingular.com ','80','http://mmsc.cingular.com ','','-1','','1','false');"
reboot
and now you are done, next go to the APN's and check they are unlocked then change the AT$T US tether APN type to nothing, then add the "tether" with a comma at the end of the APN type of AT$T US HSDPA , then reboot the phone, once in webtop you can change from the free tether to hdspa then the verification nag will go away and you will be able use the laptop dock.
If anyone can put all this in a script as i got no brains to do a script right now
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IN ANY WAY IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE OR ANYTHING THAT RELATES TO THIS POST, THIS IS FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY !
With that being said have fun
EDIT :
And confirmed sideloading working, issue this command in adb shell as ROOT ::>
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db "UPDATE secure SET value=1 WHERE name='install_non_market_apps';"
Then reboot, now you can install apps direct from the sd card.
EDIT 2:
Commands corrected now.
Does the mod retain the tegra specific version of flashplayer?
Well I used the .so file from the gingerblur 7.7 package and the flash player 10.2 from the android market, so does this make it non specific to the tegra chip?

I get a syntax error on your first sqlite3 command, something along the lines that it's expecting a ")" ??

Not to detract from the thread, but this enabler is a simpler way of getting sideloading/tethering APNs installed. No need for manual commands assuming you used the correct tools to root in the first place (i.e. sqlite3 is installed.).
Yeah better off using the scripts now as all is well in gingerblur land

Will THis Mod Work without Gingerblur
I've been too lazy to install Gingerblur but wanted to see if this mod will work without it. Thanks!
Couldn't you just use the zip files
(hulu, webtop, hdmi etc) included separately in the kennethpenns gingerblur thread? Wouldnt that work through tenfars cwm without actually installing gingerblur itself or are those specific to gingerblur only?
Edit: Actually I just answered my own question! lol the zips all install fine on stock 4.1.57 with root but do they work? I'll find out soon enough...

That i have no idea if it is possible or not, as these commands are for the purists that want CrapyBlur on and the original look without doing anything else to the file system.
I think it is in gingerblur add on packages BUT you would need the sqlite from the main package, so i guess this is the best bet for now !

Although, what have you guys seen in terms of how well HULU works? For me it's a little buggy. The video has issues with commercials not loading properly. I assume this is normal.
But all the other video controls seem to be fickle

The reason ads wont play is probably because you have ad blocking setup on your phone. What rom and root did you use? The regular vids will still play but commercials wont come through. LOL big loss!
thanks
you are right. it does work without the ads working. one thing i noticed is that the speed is a little slow on hulu using the webtop. i.e. the video is choppy. has anyone had any experiemce with that? is it something that can be sped up?

I noticed that too. Honestly gingerblur somehow, someway was having an adverse reaction on my wifi(though I seem to be the only one with this problem) I flashed back to stock, rooted, installed all the seperate zips from gingerblur without installing gingerblur itself using tenfars cwm recovery. Then I flashed gladiatrix rom also and my wifi has been perfect and hulu is running at normal speed with no choppiness.
The only thing with hulu is you gotta uninstall flash player 10.2 and grab the one from the market. Then grab a file called libflashplayer.so and copy it to data/data/com.adobeflashplayer/lib put it inside that folder using root explorer and it should ask you to overwrite click yes. Then open dolphin hd in settings make sure flash plugin is set to always on and that the agent is set as desktop. Then go to hulu.com click a video and it should play fine and with sound cause I was having a problem with no sound but this fixes it!
As far as the webtop is concerned?I think the webtop in general is buggy and laggy but still an awesome feature to have it probably will get better with more updates.
just wanna be sure here the only line i need to enable the hulu mod is this?
cp -f libflashplayer.so /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib

I'm happy to hear that CacheMate works. I have the Slide but have not had any luck rooting it (I still don't believe it can be done ). CacheMate technically requires busybox so I'm not sure why it's working. I don't make direct calls to busybox but I know that it adds some of the some core functionality to apps like mine such as cp and mv. This is why some files managers specifically for root will not work without busybox.
I'm assuming a simpler root method will be available soon enough and ROMs everything else will be made available to get all the root apps working perfectly. If the Slide was mine and not my wife's, I would not have given up on trying to root it. Anyway, glad to hear CacheMate works and people are enjoying it on the Slide.
Chachemate is working for me as well.
AndroidAppCritic - One thing I did to get ADB to see the Slide in Recovery was format the memory card before I did anything. I left it in there the whole time too. That worked on two Slides. Pulling the memory card out before Fastboot saw it then popping it back in right before Recovery came up wouldn't work for me.
That is, of course, if that is the problem you were having.

I know it's off topic but believe me when I tell you that I've tried every possible suggestion. I own dozens of SD cards from 2GB class 2 to 16GB class 6 in every imaginable brand. I even tried my gold card from the myTouch. But apparently it really is possible. I guess I don't care as much since it's not mine.
For those of you having trouble seeing protected apps, I modified our fingerprint in the build.prop. What this does is spoofs the market into thinking its seeing a Droid 2 (with Froyo) It worked for me, let me know if it does for you.
1. Put build.prop into your AndroidSDK\TOOLS folder
2. Connect via USB.
3. CD (Navigate) in CMD to your tools folder
Mount your /system (adb remount) works for me
Copy and paste this
4. adb remount
5. adb push build.prop /system/build.prop
6. adb reboot
To test if you need this before you push the build.prop fix, search the market for Us Bank. If only 2 or 3 show up, you are not getting the full market. After this fix, you should see 10 items listed when you search for Us Bank.
Hope this helps.
2.2 Market Fix Build.Prop -- WITH STAGEFRIGHT=TRUE
This can also be done via Root Explorer.
Edit: Here is a "clean" build.prop for those of you who do not want the stagefright fix (which breaks video playback) Sorry, I was not aware it did that. Thank you.
Non Stagefright Build.prop -- WITH STAGEFRIGHT=FALSE
For everyone flipping out about Birdmans tweet and you want the stock build.prop, here ya go
Stock Build.prop -- WITH NOTHING! STOCK!
You only need the stock one if you ever plan on doing a factory reset. But, you also cant do a factory reset if you have removed or renamed apps so I feel that should be mentioned. If you've done any modding and you are planning on upgrading, your best bet is to always use the SBF anyway. I dont think birdman realizes the panic he sets in with one little tweet. Factory resets suck anyway. But then again... "you decide..."
Thanks to Jcase for giving me the original idea way back when. I just basically applied his Eris Market Fix to work with our phones.
This created several problems for me.
First, the build.prop file is a read-only system file and doing a push did not work for me.
I had to copy it to my sdcard and then in shell:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/build.prop /system/build.prop
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot
This created some really fubar'd effects on my network as I couldn't access the market from 3g. It more or less disabled my 3g network.
When I activated wi-fi, it worked fine, and did let me into the market.
I'm trying to put my original build.prop file back on, but I still have no 3g connectivity.
Update:
restored my build.prop and still no go.
update2:
tried clearing the 'cache' from reboot mode and even did a factory reset ... still no go.
I'm starting over with SBF, update, FROYO, etc.
I don't know for certain that this file hosed me, but I had not yet done any other system file issues. Either way, I would not recommend you follow my above instructions
Found a fix
I must say I take no responsibility if this causes problems but this worked for me. Do a search in the market for "Eris Market Fix." It was designed for the Eris but works just fine on my Droid X. I can see all the apps that didn't show up before. I haven't noticed any issues since applying this fix. You must be rooted for this to work, but I assume most everyone on Froyo already is rooted.

I would not recommend this. I have talked to 2 people so far who said their phone have gone in to bootloops using the Eris Market Fix. After all, it is for an Eris. Read the comments on the app in market. Lots of people are using it on the wrong phone and having problems.
Do yourself a favor and just use the build.prop in this post as it has already been tested in numerous forums with no problems whatsoever, if done correctly.
he was just explaining where the idea comes from i think... You'd have to be crazy to use the eris market fix app on a droidx, just simply edit the build.prop fingerprint line.
I just used the root explorer meathod and now it wont boot.
I downloaded the file.
renamed my build.prob to build.prob/bak
placed the new build.prob in the system folder
rebooted and now after the M screen it just goes to a black screen with the backlight lit. Wont boot up. Im learning adb so this may be a noob question but can I access adb if the phone wont boot all the way up. That way I could change the build.prob back
Edit Delete Post: Im just retarted haha .prop not .prob :/
Could you plz give us some details on doing this with root explorer. Thanks
Prolly simple but I did try moving current build file then renaming and pasting yours without success doing us bank search. Also rebooted cleared cache and market history prior to search. Appreciate any help with doing this via root explorer.

I took a brief look at each file and I really don't understand how I got into trouble. As I said, I had not yet started doing any mods, just trying to install a few apps.
While I'm no computer or phone neophyte, I don't profess to be up to speed on Android yet. I do typically read through instructions pretty well, and search out multiple sources/explanations so I have a better 'understanding' of what I'm doing, rather than just "parrotting" the steps.
Having said that, I would like to know the difference between using 'adb remount' and the instructions I used in my first post. Is that just the difference in doing this via a shell command and not? ie, they perform the same action, just from a different starting point?
As for the Eris file, I did download that and all seems to be OK right now.
Sorry ahead of time for a possibly stupid question but I just wanted to be sure. Do you have to be rooted to do this fix?
Yes, it requires an edit to a file that you can only be edited when rooted

Just use the non-stagefright one.
Just like the post says, stagefright breaks HD video playback for SOME people. However some people dont care and just want higher quadrant scores, so they use the stagefright=true build.prop
Use the =false version for better stability.
Thanks for the reply.
I have notice this thing. My friend and I have a captivate. In the market I have some apps that is not seen in his market. I was wondering if this had to do with the market update? Or something like carrier thing for roms...

Since he is rooted, but still on stock ROM, you need to make a change to your settings.db file to allow non market application installation (0 to 1 type of change). Do the following if you have the Android SDK installed:
adb shell
su
cd /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings
sqlite3 settings.db
update secure set value = "1" where name = "install_non_market_apps";
.quit
Then reboot your phone.
If you don't ADB you'll want to either install it or you can try one of a couple of "one-clickers" on the boards. It's been a while since I've done it myself and if I recall correctly I installed the sqlLite add-on in Firefox to change this setting on my phone.
A quick search found the following link here which looks like it'll do the trick, though I've personally never used it. Look around, as there are others, and decide what would be best/easiest for you.
Or flash with CWM

As normal, it's not my fault if you fubar your tab by flashing this or if zombies come and speedhump your cat. You've been warned.
Well, hello there, some of you may know me from my vzwtab (7") work, but I'm sure most of you don't.
No matter, I just finished deodexing my framework and app folders, so I decided to share with you.
This isn't anything special, just you're stock system that's been deodexed, I did not remove any programs, there are really only three or so 'bloatware' apps on here, so I didn't bother.
If you would like to, just use root file explorer (or your preferred method) to remove them.
In addition to the stock items I have added pershoot's SU/Busybox/misc package (SOURCE) All credit goes to him for that.
If there's anything else, just let me know. I have tested this on my own rooted tab and everything seems to work fine and be stable.
If you notice any issues, please format/clear both Dalvik & normal Cache. It's probably the cause.

06212011- r1 - Initial Release
Known Issues
You may have to go through and manually delete your odex's in /system/app/ and /system/framework/ but the apk's and jar's no longer call them. (I can't get the amend format command working right. if you want to tell me how, please!)
Installation
Reboot into CWM either via ROM Manager or via power off, volume down + power, volume down to CWM icon and volume up to select.
Select Install Zip from SD Card
Navigate to location of zip and select okay
Clear Cache and Dalvik Cache (in advanced)
Reboot
Make themes for me

awesome finally someone to break ground for the Samsung Galaxy tab! Thanks will try it out!
Not sure if it matters but is this for retail or I/o version? Does it matter since it is basically the same tab?
For any ideas: maybe you could include a way for hulu to work without any work arounds? And maybe some lag fixes. Although that may be solved with a custom kernel.

Decided to test this on the retail version.
The only problem is that root is broken because there are two su binaries installed.
/system/bin/su - installed from file Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip when you rooted the device.
/system/xbin/su - installed when you added [Tools] – SU/BusyBox/Misc – Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Update: 6/18/11).
To fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14016703&postcount=18
------
the /system/bin/su binary need to be removed.
Su does not work on the tablet with two su binaries installed.
Use adb to remove /system/bin/su
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/bin
rm su
reboot
I tried running titanium backup prior to a reboot after removing /system/bin/su and it would not work. I uninstalled/reinstalled and it worked, but a reboot may have fixed the problem.
I manually deleted all the odex files - no problems so far. I will provide an update later if I have problems.
------------
You can remove /system/bin/su when you update the image again.
JD
Yeah, I just noticed that myself actually. Don't know why I didn't catch it before.
Anywho, I think I'll prolly push an update to this tomorrow after I write a script to remove the odex's. It was my initial thought, but I thought it would be easier to used the updater-script to do it, but looks like just writing an additional one will be best.
Glad the su thing didn't confuse you too much!
Sweet thanks for this. Going to give it a whirl!
I flashed the Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip after flashing the Rom. Everying is working fine.
I didn't need to remove su from anywhere.
Thanks!

Any chance you can add a browser.apk that gives access to Google Labs?

You will only have problems when you try to run an app that requires root (Root Explorer, Titanium backup....).

Nope, not at all. They both run fine. Thanks tho. Others may have that problem, I don't.

If you have both su binaries - and all works - good to hear. I will flash again, but will reboot a second time to see if it matters. Those apps did not run until I remove the su from bin.
Strange how two devices with the same specs operate different on certain software.
JD
shouldn't that have been:
cd /system/bin ?
i didn't try mine w both since i didn't want hassle of find out if it worked or not. no reason for 2 su's.

Yes - my bad - should be /system/bin - will correct it.
Thanks
Jd
Its because one su has the correct permissions and the other doesn't.

No, you're more than welcome to sideload an apk's you wish however.
I'll push out an update today that gets rid of my silly su mistake, gimmie a couple hours.
Glad you people are enjoying it.
Hi,
When I got my Droid, I couldn't believe all the stuff that came preinstalled with the phone, so I started deleting everything that seemed unnecessary. Given the fact that I already reflashed the phone 20 times in the last week, I made a little script to help me out. I thought I would share it with you in case it comes handy to someone.
BIG NOTE 0: There's a system part that Motorola uses to get stuff from your phone. It's called Data Collector. Whenever any app crashes, it makes quite a big dump, with your network carrier, signal level, applications installed, applications running and a lot of stuff that isn't opt-in. In fact, one of the scripts (/system/bin/bugtogo.sh) can take screenshots of your phone. I don't like being spied, so I tried to remove it all. Cannot be certain though, but I would recommend you to remove, if you like your privacy, at least, the DataCollector apks, and to empty the bugtogo.sh script from /system/bin
BIG NOTE 1: I don't use this phone in the US, so I don't know if I'm breaking part of the CDMA support. It still shows up in every settings and I don't have any reason to think it won't work, but since I can't test it in anything except GSM/UMTS, I can't know it for sure.
BIG NOTE 2: The script will install Apollo (Music Player), Nova Launcher (homescreen replacement), and Cyanogenmod's Gallery app. If you don't want them and want to keep Blur and the default gallery (the script doesn't remove the music player just in case it's needed by some other app), then don't use this script, or modify it as you wish.
BIG NOTE 3: I am not responsible for anything if this causes a mess. Worst case scenario you'll need to flash back the system partition (fastboot flash system system.img), and then reroot your phone. You have been warned.
This is what it removes:

Instructions:
1. Root your phone if you haven't already
2. Install Busybox from Google Play if you haven't already
2. Uncompress the zip into your internal sdcard. You should get this:
Code:
/sdcard/removecrap/Apollo.apk
/sdcard/removecrap/Gallery2.apk
/sdcard/removecrap/com.teslacoilsw.launcher-1.apk
/sdcard/removecrap/remover.sh
3. Run from a terminal on the phone, or from adb (always as root)
sh /sdcard/removecrap/remover.sh
4. Wait until the phone reboots
5. 200 extra Mb of system and a lot more free ram for your apps. Oh, and Motorola won't get another bug report from you
EDIT: Ooops, Reupdated the zip file, it was deleting one extra file (motosignature inside the framework folder)
EDIT2: Didn't catch Carrier IQ's qer binary on /xbin. Unfortunately we can't touch those binaries since they're in the randisk, so I updated the script so it removes the logfile qe generates and replaces it with a folder so it can never write the scan results again (thank you bofh.bug for the links!)
That's great, but you'll probably have trouble installing whatever official update comes next, since the updates generally expect certain apps to exist (with correct checksums too) so that they can be updated.

Probably OTAs will fail after running the script, but fixing it is as easy as reinstalling the system partition with fastboot and then applying the OTA

This does disable all data connectivity (3G/4G) for CDMA users, you can still receive texts and calls, but will not be able to get data services.
When I have time I will make update this script to work with CDMA users.

Were you able to fix the script so it works for CDMA users? Or, do you know what apps breaks it?
Very nice script, thanks. Easy way to run it by using Root Browser: open as script. But as for me QuickPick is better than ICS Galerry

Hi biktor_gj , could you make a similar script for Android 4.1.2? Very grateful in advance

I did again the script for the jelly bean update. This time it removes less crap, since it seems Motorola left a bit less than on previous versions. This will remove the annoying "Foreign card" warning when you boot the phone with some non-verizon sim, the acoustic warning when you turn up the volume, smart actions and so on.
IT WON'T REMOVE THE APPS. It will leave them here:
Apps: /system/app/oldapps
system binaries: /system/bin/oldbin
Framework: /system/framework/oldframework
If you encounter any problem, you can simply move back the files through adb and the phone will be like before applying the script.
NOTE: Only tested on GSM. Probably won't work on CMDA since it's missing most of the Verizon stuff. If you can identify which apps are needed for CDMA to wokr again tell me and I'll update the script accordingly.
I run the script from ADB and worked like a charm. Been using it for 24hours and no problems so far, but you never know, so use at your own risk
Code:
[email protected]:~/Documents# adb push removecrap2.sh /sdcard/removecrap2.sh
[email protected]:~/Documents# adb shell
[email protected]_maserati:/ $ su
[email protected]_maserati:/ # sh /sdcard/removecrap2.sh
It works great, thank you. Good work.

Hi to all, i found two app : ModemPanicReporter.apk and ModemStatsService.apk. What they are doing ? Maybe it is necessary to remove they too ? Removing these applications will improve battery life.
