Installed and...fore close

I did try and it does not run. I got a reply from SPB support confirming this.

Cant get SPB to work, both the beta and the public release....SPB requires a hell lot of RAM and our poor Heros are too weak to handle it...only thing to do is envy people running it on other phones.

spb shell 3d needs OpenGL ES 2.0
And the hero stuck at OpenGL ES 1.0 en some thimes 1.1

Well it runs fine on my fren's Galaxy S 2.1 stock which I believe is GLES 1.0 or 1.1. It may be that for full optimisation, it requires GLES 2.0. Well time to realise that our Heros should soon go down to rest in peace.

hmm.. Hardware doesn't meet the requirements.. Dont think it will ever run smoothly

Force close,as mentioned our hero is going to die due to its hardware..

hero can't meet its requirements

I think there is another called REGINA 3D , not really that good but you guys could try it out for a while

Why do you need 3d launcher at all???Please dont forget tht we have Adreno 130!!!!sense is cutter!!

Quake 3 Engine on G1 - thanks OpenGL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fokeI3Ynuc4
Hope some developers take use of this soon ;D
How about old school q1/qw. i'm still a big fan, and it's opengl
Might run better for this hardware
I concur. A lot of the games for Android are fun yes, but however, none of them are amazing nor graphically intensive. Establishing an engine that runs (optimized, once this one is) in Android will add another tool to the shed. Who doesn't want to play Quake on their phone anyway?

exactly, Quake III won't run well. Quake I on the other hand might... oh wait it has... the version was demoed on the G1 before release. ANd never reappeared. now it is possible with Open GL.

My thoughts exactly! It was getting roughly 30FPS running at 384mHz, imagine at 528mHz, maybe 2000FPS?!?!?!?!? haha.
that was 30 frames before any kinda optimization. so this is a real good method to develop games. and it looks great on the g1

oddly enough - I myself applied that fix this week and it worked well.
however gameboid on the hero is a bit of a let down, the onscreen button cause a lot of problems - sometimes makes me wish i had a physical keyboard again.
Can you be a bit more specific please? Are you talking about disabling sense ? I tried that and it did very little im on the newest Villian Rom and regreting it at the moment ..
No they are talking about going out an buying a HTC Desire as it has a much faster processor that can handle running game roms better.
Ah , well i know for a fact that 1.5 roms can support it ! I just wanted to know if there was a way to make it work on 2.1!
I will never buy another htc product , come on they release a new phone then stop supporting it instantly and concentrate on their new phone that they don't intend to support. For example 2.1 to be release in september? That is a sham .
Welcome to the wonderful world of mobile phones.
All manufacturers are same dude. HTC just happen to make some of the best phones in most peoples opinion.
This life. They will always concentrate on their newest devices.
I have same lag with 2.1 ROMs. Thought it was just me.
I think i know what you mean, i have the same problem on villain 2.1.....
And the weird part is the lag doesn't happen when on 1.5.... Does anyone have the same problem except for the poster?
Epic sad face , yeah HTC are jerks =/ We need supporttt!! If anyone finds a fix for it please respond here of mail me Also im finding on the 1.5 rom mr bangs one that leaf green the pokemon game lags! hmm
I have the same problem using CHM 1.4.3 (2.1). I never tried an emulators on 1.5 to compare, but it definitely only happens when using the virtual keyboard.
Has anyone had any success getting the ___oid emulators to run smoothly with the virtual keyboards?
Too bad using the trackball as the d-pad didn't work better.
I miss real keyboards
Interesting... its not just the emulators. Games that ran fine before (radiant) now suffer from the same lag when using the touch screen instead of the trackball.
WTF?

It's a shame, this issue makes any game unplayable
Pokemon works fine on my hero with Froyd Villain and OC.

SPB Mobile Shell 5.0 for Android.

Some of you guys may have had a Windows Mobile phone before. And you should then propably know about SPB Mobile Shell, a very fast good looking launcher. And it's coming for Android. So sign up for the beta now.
http://spb.com/beta
And a little video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROca7ao-Tqw&feature=player_embedded#!
Cool, but
1. This must be a battery killer.
2. I doubt that it will be available on Wildfire. Or it will lag like hell.

1. I think it won't be a battery killer, cause it will be a home screen application, like the others .... i used it when i had my HTC Kaiser ... and this was very cool, usefull app
2. SPB ran very well on Windows Mobile ... on "oldschool" phones too ... so i think wildfire will be enough
Have smooth when run on Wildfire?
Hope this works on wildfire...

I had SPB on my old HTC Magician, but the 3d stuff lagged sometimes.
2. Maybe But we can`t play Raging Thunder on the Wildfire, but I can play the WM version on a 400Mhz processor with smooth 40fps.
Don`t get me wrong, I want this to work well on all devices.

Workable SPB Shell 3D for Hero?

it is available through the market..... atleast it was. it was there yesterday but i guess they took it off. it doesnt work on quite a few phones and the ones that it does work on it doesnt work well and it takes 10 minutes to boot up. i have been waiting for it since they announced it. so just wait with me on this till they release a more stable version lol
ok guys. i sent spb an email asking if the sprint hero is supported or not to run spb shell 3D. and this is what they said.
Dear Chris,
unfortunately your device doesn't natively support OpenGS ES 2.0 and that's why it is not supported by SPB Shell 3D.
so i dont know. lol

well then, maybe it can work. If you are running aospCMod 2.3.3 (has the openGL built in) and edit the line in the build.prop that says ro.opengles.version=65537 to say =131072, it tells the phone that it has open GL 2.0. I make this edit so that I can run vector maps. If somebody wants to DL this app from the market and make that edit, it *might* work, although I doubt it would run well.
i have the app and im on aosp cm7. so im gonna do that and get back soon.
my first test is gonne be dungeon defenders. when you start the game on our hero's it says, you do not mee the minimum of 512mb of ram... your device does not support opengl 2.0
i made the edit and restarted the phone. when i open dungeon defenders i get the same thing. dont have 512mb of ram... and openGL initialization failed, your device likely does not support shader model ES2.0, a requirement for dungeon defenders...

Well, to be fair, this thread is not about that game also, to ensure you have the spoofed 2.0, grab the app "android system info" from the market and once you install it click on the system tab, then open GL, mine shows 2.0 (even though it really isn't). I tried 2 cracked versions of spb and neither worked (although it did change my wallpaper when trying to load), but maybe the market official one would work, that's what someone really needs to test.
mine says.
openGL version supported : 2.0
openGL version supported : openGL ES 1.1-CM
blah blah blah
we need ES to be 2.0

Right, where is says 2.0, it thinks you have it (my system info says the same thing btw). Go to google maps, then go to a metropolis city, put two fingers near top of the map, slide down with fingers - watch 3D tilt and 3D buildings. That's fake 2.0. I still have no idea if the market version of SPB will work, I doubt it, but maybe.... You see maps 5.0+ needs openGL 2.0 to render that 3D stuff (vector maps) and it works because we lied to it and said we had it, that's why I think it's worth a shot for SPB. To be clear, I doubt I would run it as my launcher, I was just trying to be helpful and think of ideas.
What about changing some stuff to the log of spb? I don't know much but I did take a look but couldn't find any info I thought could help.

No idea. Didn't one of you two guys put up something about a "bulletproof script" or something for this launcher, that some guy got is running on an older phone? Maybe using that tweak and the 131072 tweak would make it work?
yeah that was me. here is the thread again http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020500 . the guy is running it on the old droid. he said it would go to a black screen and then go back to where he previously was at.... which is the same thing its doing for us. he said he used that bulletproof launcher script to keep it from closing and it loaded up after like 10 minutes. i have no clue what to do though lol

Well, first the milestone and droid both have different processors than the hero, so maybe that's why he got SPB to work (I never actually saw anything about that launcher specifically). Second, his tweak is easy, script unneeded. You can change your vm heap to 48 by editing the build.prop, which is fine because the early GB builds were set that way. You then could add the line "ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=0" to the bottom of the build.prop, add a BLANK line under that, then disable the CM lock home in memory. You could also create or add the same lines to local.prop in /data.
EDIT: I just did all that, same result. Set SPB to default launcher, screen goes black for about a minute, then it reloads adw ex with a wallpaper made of clouds, no SPB... Still the paid market version may work with these edits, someone must try (not me) and report back. I will say a prayer to the phone gods for you.
damn! time to save up for the evo 3D lol

I know this isn't supported on tablets yet but has anyone bought it on a phone ans then still tried it on the g tab?? I have a hero so this wont even show up in my market but juust wondering....

Didnt work for me, on latest CM7.
Latest version works on the g-tab.... but honestly, don't bother. It looks nice but really sucks to use as a launcher.

Actually, tablets are still not supported as of yet..
But I did find a "fixed beta" version that does work on the gtab.
Check out this you tube video I made of spb shell on the gtab.
