Running into issues while trying to install phiremod. Went into the recovery menu, followed instructions completely, it installed fine, rebooted device and it looped me back to recovery menu (CWR wasn't burned to SD, it was installed to the Nook). A few posts recommended that I format boot too, and now instead of having the recovery menu loop, I am stuck with a unit that doesn't power on. Help!
Same problem here. Followed the instructions to the letter, and now the Nook keeps booting to the ClockworkMod Recovery screen...even with the SD-card removed.
Is it that we were supposed to do something else to the Nook before attempting the install?
By the way, I used Clockwork Recovery v3.0.0.5 from the SD-card while installing.

May try wiping cache and dalvik cache if you haven't tried that already.
OK, n00b question: what's a 'dalvik' cache?
[NQUOTE=swordsaint;11459824]OK, n00b question: what's a 'dalvik' cache?[/QUOTE]
When you are in recovery, you have the option to wipe cache on the first screen. On the advanced screen you have the option to wipe dalvik cache. I am not totally sure, but I believe it is cache that is directly related to your apps. The other is more general in nature. Wipe both.
Also WTF. USB storage wont mount in Phiremod. What kind of **** is that?
OK, guys...I finally fixed it.
1st, I used the CWR Removal tool from this thread, and then went through
the installation steps carefully again, but after the install was completed,
I removed the SD-card, THEN rebooted.
Problem solved. (Didn't need to mess with the caches though)
Happily playing Angry Birds just now just for the heck of it.
Is there any way to access the Nook's internal storage to put music,
movie files, etc?
Newbie alert - I just installed latest CM7 nightly (running great) but since I can't help myself I'm trying to install dalingrin's latest OC kernel.
When I reboot into recovery, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache CWM freezes and I can't install from zip and reboot. I have read that if you wait thirty seconds after wiping dalvik it won't happen, but I've tried 5 times and it freezes each time. This behavior didn't happen in Froyo for me.
I understand there is some need to update the CWM kernel for flashing stuff in CM7 but I've made it this far without ADB and would like to continue if possible. Can I add the correct OC kernel zip to my bootable SD and reflash CM7, gapps, and the OC kernel zip all in one swoop?
Alternatively, if I wipe cache, and dalvik cache and then reboot into recovery again can I safely install the OC kernel from zip then?
Other suggestions?
Thanks!

Yep you can do that and should not have an issue at all. that is exactly how I install CM7 myself. Actually I do ALL installs or ROM changes from a bootable sdcard. I evne do my backups on it also which is why I gave up flashing CWR to the eMMC of the Nook. Much easier IMO when something goes wrong as you have all your stuff ( ie ROMS, or nandroid backups) in one place and can always boot to a bootable sdcard.
Hi,
I have been doing the dalvik and cache wipe AFTER installing Dalingrin's OC kernel.
CWM seems to freeze after the dalvik wipe, but holding power button for a while reboots
into Android.
I had already updated the recovery kernel (and the version of CWM to 3.0.1.0),
I believe you need to do both. CM7 uses a different file system format for the
various partitions, the 'included' recovery kernel does not include support for them, so
that is why a new recovery kernel is required.
I think this post includes a link to a CWM flashable kernel:

I added it to my install SD and flashed it. Worked perfectly. Thanks.
Does anyone have any advice? My system was very stable, then I upgraded my uboot and flashed the 3.1 beta. The beta performed terribly, so I flashed back to the build in the title, and now all these force closes. I did install Pure Messenger and Pulse in the meantime and put up some widgets.
I'm planning to try out Phiremod on eMMC and see how that works out, but if there's a fix for this issue, I'd like to try it out. I have CWM on eMMC, but I'm thinking if I clear caches in there, it will be the caches in my stock OS install on eMMC, correct? Can I point it to the SD install?

Boot into Clockwork. Under Mounts / Storage wipe cache, then go into "advanced" and wipe dalvik cache (will cause your device to lock & need hard reboot). Then boot your machine as normal. Load time will be a little on the long side because your Nook will be rebuilding cache...perfectly normal. This has to be done when going back to the stables from the Beta CM7.

But again, with CWM on eMMC and CM7 on SD, won't that wipe the caches for the stock install on eMMC rather than for CM7?
That method did not work, btw, I'm guessing because it wasn't wiping the caches for the ROM on the card. Any way to do this for a verygreen SD install?

In terminal emulator, su then rm /data/dalvik-cache/*
Just go to settings, applications, manage application, in the all tab, find "media storage" if I remembered correctly, then go in and clear data, reboot then you should be fine.

So far, this did the trick for me! Thank you!
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to experience ICS, but after much reading on the EMMC Bug, I wanted to hold off until the situation was resolved to some extend, in terms of custom-kernals. Whereby, the EMMC erase commands are "disabled'.
So, I think it's time for me to experience ICS on my GT-N7000.
Presently, I have the following:
Builder Number: CheckROM Revo NoteHD V5
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband: N7000XXLA4
Kernal Version: 2.6.35.14-ver.4.2
[email protected] #3
I would like to do a "clean-factory-install" (meaning, erase everything, start from scratch, factory settings - no Titanium Backup, SMS Backup, etc.) to "Rocket ROM V10"
So, can anyone confirm if the following steps is what I need to do (I kind of mapped it, using extra precaution):
1. Boot into CWM (currenty has: RedPill Touch Recovery by AF974, CWM v5.5.0.4)
2. From CWM Main Menu, access Wipe Menu, then:
3. Wipe Data / Factory Reset
4. Wipe Cache
5. Wipe Dalvik Cache
6. Wipe Voltage Control Settings
7. Wipe Battery Stats
Afterwards, Go Back To CWM Main Menu:
8. Go to Install Menu
9. Select "Choose ZIP From SD Card"
10.. Select The: AbyssNote 4.2 Kernel (posted within the RocketROM thread)
Afterwards, Go Back to Main CWM Menu:
Repeat Steps 2 thru 7 *again* - - - just to make sure after installing AbyssNote 4.2 Kernel
11. From the Main CWM Menu, go to Reboot Menu
12. Select Reboot Recovery
13. Now I should be under the AbyssNote 4.2 CWM Recovery
14. Do All The Wipe(s) Again: Data/Factory Reset, Cache, Dalvik Cache, Voltage Control Settings (if applicable), Battery Stats, etc.
15. Install The ROM - by going to Install Menu & Select "Choose ZIP From SD Card" - point to RocketROM V10 zip file.
16. Reboot To System
17. Let The ROM settle down
18. Reboot Phone back into CWM (AbyssNote 4.2 CWM Recovery)
19. Install NoteCore / SpeedMOD Kernal (by choosing to Install From ZIP)
20. Do All The Wipe(s) Again: Data/Factory Reset, Cache, Dalvik Cache, Voltage Control Settings (if applicable), Battery Stats, etc.
21. Reboot!!!
22. DONE!
23. Enjoy ICS ...
Since you are already on GB kernel so it is safe to flash ICS rom, you can skip step 10-14, After flashin ROM you won't be able to re-boot in AbyssNote 4.2 CWM Recovery as it will be replaced by new recovery from the kernel included in new rom. Better to reboot normally and then flash another kernel using cwm recovery.

Hey jeetu1981,
I'll try what you have mentioned, and report back.
Thanks! (I'll click on the Thanks! Button Too...)
jeetu is right
at point 17 you will already be on NOtecore kernel so no need for step 19.
check your root status first after booting into new rom.

Hi Again,
Sorry just been really busy, I finally going to be having time to do this. Quick Question: Copy the RocketROM zip to internal sd card or external sd card, I am siding with external card, since the internal one is going to be deleted when I go through format/system, etc., right?
You can copy it to internal sd card
The data on the internal sdcard will not be wiped
If u want to wipe the data on the sdcard, in cwm>mount and storage>format sdcard

i am in the same boat. I have CheckROM V6 and looking for ICS update.
Can i ask why you need to do a full wipe? Why not just install the ROM on top and keep all the same settings?
Or reload it back with Titanium?

GB and ICS uses different settings and framework so restoring and using same settings OR flashing without full wipe is a no go I believe. same goes for ICS roms with different base like CM, TW, AOKP or MIUI.
You can flash rom without full wipe if the base is same (TW to TW etc) but then you will have lot of performance issues and FCs.
You can restore apps and data using TB but settings is still not possible.
I tried to set my nook+ up via the hybrid installation here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2300132. I used all the most recent files found on that page.
However, although I did install the gapps zip by downloading it with the stock nook, then selecting it at the cwm recovery(on the sd), I still dont have google apps. It says the file has been installed, but no apps or play store can be found on cm 10. Even worse, I cant boot back into the stock BN rom. I can go to cwm recovery and select the stock rom and/or make it default for boot up, but no matter what the device ALWAYS boots back into cm 10. Ideally, Id like to be able to have google apps running cyanogenmod, but feel like thats pretty much a pipe dream for now. I need basic step by step instructions(I'm a noob) to just undo everything and go back to running the stock nook rom, which with access to the google play store is way better than cm 10 without it. What do I do

Update I found the thread on system restore and downloaded the barnes and noble stock file. Booted up from the sd with cwm. Selected install zip from internal sdcard and the barnes and noble file. Directly after, I selected wipe data/ factory reset. After that, reboot system now. New nook firmware loads to 99% then gets stuck. Pros, WHAT DO I DO NOW? I can still boot into cwm recovery via the sd card, but the only options remaining are wipe cache partition, mounts and storage, and install zip from sdcard (because I did the hybrid installation, I dont have a rom on the card). Since I wiped data/factory reset (but not the cache partition) would the best thing be to take the sd card out and try to return it to B&N?

The problem is you used the CWM from the hybrid SD to flash the stock ROM. Then you factory reset using the same CWM. That factory reset does not wipe the stock, it wipes the hybrid.
You need to go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a new bootable CWM SD per my item 1a. Then things are done to internal memory instead of hybrid. Then flash my plain stock zip from item 6, followed by a factory reset. That should fix your stock.
