Captivate shutting down, could be apps? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I sent my phone in for repair so I know it's not a hardware issue, and it occurs with a non overclock kernel, so I believe it is my apps that are causing the random sleep death. Before I go about individually removing all my apps, is it possible for a non root app to cause power offs?

What makes you think you don't have the random shutdown issue so many of us (me included) have had with this phone? I had to exchange mine twice before I got one that didn't shutdown.

possibly
it might be a few reasons
check if you have power save in settings>display that was causing the problem for me, and if you have set CPU set the screen off profile to a higher CPU

When I first got this phone it shut down all the time. Last year. Now nothing. In a long time.

4.2 gets stuck I'm deep sleep, could it be the case?

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else, and its getting very frustrating. Last night my N7 shut down from low battery, after plugging in, it still wouldn't start up. I got it going again holding firm the power and volume button, but now it's constantly either freezing during use, slightly after startup or not turning on at all after gong to sleep.
I factory reset and that seems to have fixed the lockup issue but it's still getting stuck in deep sleep. The only thing I can guess is that it's the magnet feature in my case that is causing it. I've now had the case off for about an hour and had no lockups.
I've never felt the need to root this thing but I'm thinking of routing and fling to a custom 4.1.2 to see if this fixed it.
Has anyone heard of or had this issue before?

More: its got nothing to do with the case, I've had multiple lockups over the past hour and now a isn't even get past the lock screen without it locking up. Only setting I changed was killing the auto brightness.
No one else is having issues like this?

Xperia V standby hang, cannot wake up

anyone experience Xperia V cannot wake up or hang in standby?
it happens at nite after i sleep. but when i wake up, i press the power button several times but the screen doesnt on. notification light is working and blinking.
only way is to remove battery. its been happening everyday. even alarm is not working. checked my backup(sms, call log), it didnt backup. :crying:
I at least dont have that problem. Is your phone stock? Rooted etc?

I have this problem too. Not rooted. Probably, while charging this problem not appears.
Wrong section. This belongs in Q&A.
And for your problem, few users with.XT and XTX also reported similar problems. They are known as SoD (Sleep of Death).
There is no known fix yet. One users took it back to the store and the the Sony tech guru told him it's an isolated problem and he got a new one. So I suggest you go back to the store.
For anyone using adw launcher, one user reported that that caused his SoD. When he uninstalled that it was gone. Can be an app.
Try factory reset, and start first day without installing apps. And day by day add a new app, this way you can rule out if apps cause the problem.
Also format internal and external sdcard. Don't just empty them by wiping, you should really format, so no traces of possible app malfunction can be found back by the system.

Did I help? please press thanks button
after several days of testing, it doesnt hang on mine for 3 days already.
i guess its because there is a additional line in build prop "dalvik.vm.heapsize=36m" that cause this? this also cause my Need For Speed Most Wanted to force close too.
i also increase min clock freq to 594MHz.
also run TempMonitor(paid) on my notification bar.
not sure the above method works for most of u.. but try if it works.
I've got this problem since the first day. Got the phone, booted it up without even installing a sim card/downloading anything, plugged it into the charger, and it froze.
Since then it would go a few days without freezing, or it would freeze 3 times a day. The freezing always happen in standby mode.
Since it froze on a fresh system with no apps installed, it can't be app-related. There are users who have never experienced this problem, so I suppose the only way is to return the phone or take it to your local sony service center.
Normally it would just hang there and you'd have to pull the battery out. There was once where it hung and the phone got incredibly hot, and battery would be drained really fast.
Currently I am experimenting with keeping WiFi OFF, and surprisingly the phone has been fine for 4 days straight without freezing now. Its just something I'm trying and by no means this is a fix, but returning the phone to a sony store isn't an option for you, you might want to see if this works for you.
for those still having SOD, maybe u can try this. not sure it helps or not. because before i install jellybean, i review the code in build.prop first. so that is why it didnt happen on me for 2 weeks. well, i test it out yesterday.
use either ES file explorer or Root explorer, go to system -> build.prop.
find this line dalvik.vm.heapsize=36m, put a # in front of it to disable this code.
it could be because there is another similar code, thus conflict. u can find another similar line at the bottom of build.prop.
hope it helps!
Have you had anymore sod since disabling that?

Black Screen Of Death Cause

This happened twice to be due to doing the same exact thing.
I found out that while a YouTube video is playing with your headset connect, switch the screen off with the headset connected overnight and then in the morning the device will not switch on the screen but the notification light was going so the only way to get out of it is to force power off by press and holding the power button for 10 seconds until the device powers off.

Is the cpu undervolted, and if so by how much and try less undervolting and see what happens? Or try clearing the YouTube app data.

I did not mess around with the CPU over/under clocking so no but maybe the system did that by itself.
I did find some other bugs in the system, sometimes I wish that I don't find bugs in the Android System but yet I find them.

The cpu doesn`t get undervolted by the system spontaniously and by itself. If you found system bugs post them and probably there are fixes or workarounds for them

That's the problem, I did post the bugs before but people don't reply at all.
EDIT: Maybe YouTube uses a certain CPU value BUT the screen was off so it was using the invalid value causing the screen to not come on.

[Q] Logging? Phone shutting down (SwG 2.06)

Running flex's SwG 2.06. A few times since migrating to 4.3 my device has "shutdown" where it goes from launcher to an htc screen like when you power off/reboot the device. Earlier I let it sit like that for 5+ minutes as I packed my bag to hit the road and went down to my car. Still at the same screen when I got to my car. Had to manually power off and back on by holding the power button till it turned off.
I don't know if it's 4.3, rom or app related. Is there something I can run that wont destroy my battery that'll log or something to give me anything to diagnose my issue? I don't seem to have any abnormal battery usage... I think...
Thanks
Download alogcat from the playstore, or rewipe and reflash.

Not sure whats up.
It happened 2 or 3 times in 48hours early on but hasn't happened since my OP. I'll get alogcat tho regardless Thanks

Xperia V spontaneous self reboot issue

I'm using the Xperia V running the latest Jelly Bean stock firmware (see my signature). I while ago, my phone started to spontaneously reboot itself, sometimes during standby, sometimes while I had the screen on. I know that others had this issue as well, but none of the threads I found were really helpful.
I can't really explain this, as I didn't change anything in he past couple weeks. The only thing that happened was that I once dropped from about 1m in our living room, but I doubt that that would cause such a problem.
As for software, I'm using the Aviate launcher, and I have Android Tuner installed which helps to keep my memory free and reduce battery usage. AT is set to kill background processes when the screen is turned off, and important processes are all excluded from that. But again, I haven't changed anything in the past couple weeks before the reboot issue suddenly appeared, so I doubt it's any of the software I use.
So, does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the cause of this? It seems to happen less frequently when using WiFi instead of 3G. Might 3G be the cause? (I'm just guessing wildly, I really have no clue as to what causes what in an Android phone.)
My xperia t reboots whenever I switch it off and I have to force turn it off. Try a software repair
