If you want to start easy, just rip with the movie to mobile option and pick iPhone. It should work fine.
Well to anyone who wants to know... I used dvdfab and just ripped using the generic type and then saved it to the sd card on my phone and it plays perfectly. so if theres any of yall that cant do it then just follow what i did. download dvdfab and then pick source from dvd then click rip and then generic and then start. let it finish then mount your phone to computer then drag and drop movie to sd card. done and done...

I find if i pick iPhone and then change the screen resolution to match the 480 x 800 pixels (depends on the movie ratio) - that i get a slightly smaller file size then doing generic. I also found MP4 smaller then MKV.
Here's a program you can buy for $9.95 or you can also just download the free version for the Droid Incredible which has the same resolution as the Galaxy S. http://www.tools4movies.com/
The only videos I have on my Cappy are frlm youtube. I download ek from youtube in flv format and use handbreak to convert them to mp4 and they play without issue. Ive been wandering what video codecs are supported. Ive successfully played h.264 720p brrips flawlessly off my sd card(class4) and couldnt be happier.
As far as Im aware, the Cappy is sorta like the PS3...add a file and it should play. I have found out that it dosent really like flv..soooo..I convert all my youtube ahit to mp4 and leave all my brrips as the are and everything plays fine.

I think there's a program called jetvd that will allow you to download mp4s straight from youtube

There's a website called keepvid.com that will allow you to download youtube videos. Just copy and paste the youtube url into the box and it does the rest

Torrents..lol
From what I've read, it's a long drawn out process that really sucks and I have no idea how it's done.
Sorry.
. .
I use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD then AutoGK to convert it to xvid. Transfer the movies to my SD and it plays perfectly. I also have Rock Player instead of the stock media player. Doing a comparison between the two there is a slight improvement on the quality using Rock Player.
Hi Guys & gals.
Since VLC player has already been ported to iPhone 4, & the sources available for anyone to comile it for any other platform of his/her choice, what's stopping someone from porting it?
Advantages:
- dont bother about conversion, can play all.
- many others that are not apperent to me as of now .
The source code page - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-sources.html
I know this thread doesn't belong in this forum, will be tossed to the appropriate one at appropriate time by appropriate people & I welcome it.
i still prefer mVideoPlayer
yeah, advantage "dont bother about conversion" is kinds pontless - we already can play everything.
would be cool if we could watch divx-streams
Thank you all for answering, but if its on iPhone 4 why not on my SGS?

same thing applies: we have something like mvideoplayer on SGS, why not on iPhone?
VLC uses software decoding/rendering to display movies. This sucks. Bad.
mVideoPlayer uses the on device codecs, which use the on device GPU to decode/render movies. This is way, way better.
So yeah, VLC can be ported, but I doubt anybody will put in the kind of insane work required when mVideoPlayer is available - with mVideoPlayer on an SGS being the best (by far) video solution for any mobile device available.
+1 for this

To be honest vlc suks big time even on windows. You can download many-many players that look better, work faster, have more options, play same amount of file types and do it faster.
Window media player classic is a good one. Search for CCCP on Google. I only use VLC for region locked DVDs.
VPlayer is good enough?

(unless you actually want the orange cone etc.)
+1 for Media Player Classic
The best one i've come across so far.
Thread moved to Q&A.
You can go to the VLC forum and see that they are working on it.

+1 for VLC.
mVideoPlayer does NOT play all formats, like .rm (Real Media Codec) which VLC does.

/I don't want it on my Galaxy S since it won't be h/w accelerated, but I think it's a damn good cross-platform player
Yes. Such as? I don't know of a better video player on windows than VLC. Please enlighten us all of one that is better.

Depends on your criteria. I personally prefer Media Player Classic Home Cinema with ffdshow.
now the gingerbread own player just can play mp
4 files, but i want to see some avi videos?
Rock player from memory supports both.
And, VPlayer.
Which Gingerbread rom are you using? I get constant fc's with rockplayer on MM's rom.
Vplayer works well for avi, havn't tried it for rmvb but it says it supports it in its description.
I've only used it on froyo but I assume it works on gingerbread also.
V player was great for Froyo but force closes on Gingerbread every time, at least for me..
Per the dev vplayer has not been formatted to work with gingerbread
Not sure if he will update or not but it says so in description on market that its not compatible
VPlayer FCs because of linkage errors (opencore/openmax - surfaceflinger)
Arc Media Player closes itself upon loading video... guess there's nothing supporting Gingerbread atm! *hint to devs*
Have been using arc media on CM7 without any problems

anyone got any working player -
Tried VPlayer just now and it's working. Will try out a handful more vids before buying this.

Glad to hear that. I've only recently purchased it
For some reason it closes the vid randomly. most times around 10 minutes mark.
Not buying yet, going to email the dev and ask. Bet you they ask that I buy first.
After getting a tip about moboplayer I downloaded it, wow what a difference. I can actually play Avi files that are 720p and encoded at high profile, simply awesome.

Can anyone else confirm this?

It's another ffmpeg-based (i.e. software) player. Chinese origin. Looks suspiciously like Rockplayer. Changelog, if to be believed, indicated that most development took little over a month. Google search on 'moboplayer' turns up no track record, just a list of low-quality links. OP behaves like a spambot. My opinion, let someone else be the guinea pig.
Comparison:
http://moboplayer.com/moboplayer_en.html
http://rockplayer.freecoder.org/index_en.html
There are a few users over on this thread also claiming it works well and they have more than 1 post for those worried about spambots
I'm always amazed at some's carefree attitude of trying new software. It's as if the notion of malware simply doesn't exist in their world. But hey, somebody has tried it, and he has more than a few posts, so I'm sure it must be OK.
And FREE, too! What a deal, eh?
after the recent virus raid on the marketplace I'm a little skeptical about this app. It seems too good to be true.
....................
Tried this on my CM7 Galaxy S and it looks like a fancier version of the Rockplayer.
720P still either stutters badly when using software mode or the video plays fine but no sound on hardware mode (identical to the Rockplayer).
I can assure you I am not a spam bot. File was an Avi encoded at high profile 3.1, played perfecly throughout. Just trying to help others out, jesus people jump all over everyone on this forum, hostile much?

been using moboplayer for a few weeks already. I like it, it plays some stuff that rockplayer cant.
And an fyi for anyone who cares out there, rockplayer would not play this file.

Anyone else using moboplayer know if it is true that the non version will not function in xoom? I am currently using medium build.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
Sorry to be a bit of a skeptic here, but if you go to the Android Market and you look at the reviews for this app all but one of them is dated April 1. That's an odd coincidence.
And what holiday falls on April 1?
just tried it, its totally just rockplayer but it has engrish, doesn't work as well, and just seems overall shady. Vitalplayer works OK but rockplayer is still definately the best as of right now.
I have been using moboplayer for a couple days and its the only player that plays everything i through at it with no problems. ( MAKE SURE YOU USE THE MEDIUM VERSION AND NOT THE NEON VERSION)
They just released an updated version on there website today.
http://moboplayer.com/moboplayer_en.html
Rockplayer constinatly force closes on me.
If this is for real, then why are the download links non-functional?
It's for real. I just put it on my Xoom and my Evo. Runs really well. It does seem to be a rockplayer clone, but runs slightly better for me, and has a nice interface for a media library. Perhaps the site was updating with the latest version in regards to links being nonfunctional. I just downloaded 2 diff versions about 30min ago.

I updated mine earlier today from the website. I just checked and i see the Neon version sends you to the Android market and the the others are not available. Could be they took them down because of it being published on the Market now.
I also like how you can change the color of the UI.
OK it is for real. Was able to install it from the Market, and then upgrade from inside the app to the Non-Neon version. Good video player, with HD video that has been transcoded for the XOOM. But, otherwise performance doesn't appear any different than Rockplayer. High Proflile MKV's play with choppy video and no sound. Will experiment more with it in the morning.
Just looking for an app that will allow me to stream all my music and videos to the Nook. Anyone have any suggestions?
VLC Stream & Convert is good for movies. Works for music as well. You have to pay for full version for full features like making playlists, optimizing video, etc. Try the free version and try it out.
Sweet, will do. Thanks.
I am using playon. Works great for streaming my ripped movies, Netflix, MLB games. Might want to check it out.
need app?
i don't think so
I use audiogalaxy for my music which is simple and working great so far.

You can stream Netflix through Playon? Hm... might have to try that out. I've been pretty happy with VLC S&C since I've got it working, but Netflix would be nice until they get around to making a proper Android app for it.
