Just looking for an app that will allow me to stream all my music and videos to the Nook. Anyone have any suggestions?
VLC Stream & Convert is good for movies. Works for music as well. You have to pay for full version for full features like making playlists, optimizing video, etc. Try the free version and try it out.
Sweet, will do. Thanks.
I am using playon. Works great for streaming my ripped movies, Netflix, MLB games. Might want to check it out.
need app?
i don't think so
I use audiogalaxy for my music which is simple and working great so far.

You can stream Netflix through Playon? Hm... might have to try that out. I've been pretty happy with VLC S&C since I've got it working, but Netflix would be nice until they get around to making a proper Android app for it.

Ok so i know im a noob moron so maybe you guys can tell me. Do you think the nook color rooted when we get flash will be able to play netflix movies or is the hardware just to low end?
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
Netflix does not use flash. Netflix uses Silverlight.
There is not a Netflix app out for android either.
Swyped from my Mynion using the Xda App.
Ahh i see. So there ya have it. Im a moron lol. Ok so the question is how can i make it play . Some brilliant young guy can surely make it happen if the hardware can handle it.

Unless an official app is released, it just won't happen.
Orb Live
I believe Orb is working on a port of their new app for Android, I use it for Netflix and Hulu content on my iPhone that I wouldn't normally be able to watch (Hulu content that hasn't been licensed for mobile, mostly). It's possible that after they get the app going for Android that you'll be able to watch Netflix content via it's interface.
The only downside is that I believe you have to have access to your PC that has the orb caster software installed (it does the actual rendering and casting of the video to your mobile device). As it sits right now, I can't watch Hulu content without being in wireless range of my computer.
Wait, I have orb to watch TV with on my nook and iPhone, how do you set it up for Netflix?
until they square away DRM for Netflix and Android - don't expect it - it migh be awhile although i read somewhere that Netflix is working on an Android app
One of the new phones at CES had a netflix app... so, as they say in Spaceballs "When will then be now???? Soooooooooon"
Sent from my NookColour using XDA App
Playon.tv also handles Netflix, but their android client isnt out yet
There is a handset coming with Netflix preloaded, I don't know what is in the app though, I would assume playback is possible in the future. Also, there are other options such as Videos5 and a Hulu hack for when Froyo/2.3 rolls out.
you need to have the orb controller, which I believe is only available on iPhone, though I haven't checked the market lately to find out if it's available for Android yet.
The Netflix app for Android is out there. Its on the LG Revolution. Someone needs to get a copy of it.
Just need to confirm if that is a streaming app or just a scheduling app

A work around
The way you can work around this is easy to do, but will run you some $$$.
First, get a Slingbox.
Second, you need a TiVo XL or something the slingbox can control. The slingbox needs to control a device using netflix. The TiVo XL has netflix built into it.
Third, get the Slingbox app for your android phone. I was watching tons of movies @ the gym.
slingbox you say...hahaha. off to shop.
save money and get it from ebay. i've seen the slingbox hd for $229 there. @bestbuy, $299 + tax. all slingbox does is redirect what your looking and shoots it over the internet (ie... your phone being on the net and for the love of god, if you have ATT with data caps, it will run you). i used my slingbox app yesterday and was watching king of the hill. i'm in the military (in GA for school) and my TiVo is in KS. Technically when i deploy, i can use my nook off a wireless internet connection in iraq and watch tv as is live and with netflix.

I am pretty sure it is streaming, I know this came out a few months ago for Verizon I believe, not positive though. I just know that I had a Netflix scheduling app for my g1 and was jealous when a streaming app was released. This all of course is based on memory so I could be very wrong.

Hi all. My buddy just got himself a Samsung Epic 4G and he showed me the "AllShare" app that comes stock with it. It's pretty friggin' cool. It's a dlna app. Anyway, curious if anyone would like to try porting it over (if possible).
App link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19671888/Dlna.apk
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5vie0bFRao
Allshare would be awesome. My new 3d blu ray player has an app built in so now I can stream my movies from my computer to my tv. It would be cool to stream to my gtab
Sent from my Froyo Leak...thanks Kaos \00/
Heck yeah. I really hope one of the devs can figure it out. I'm actually looking at getting a Samsung TV too. Sure would be cool to have that app.
I use uPnPlay to stream with Tversity on the my media server. It has worked good, I've watched a couple movies. 1080 is kinda laggy, but that's my network I think.
Yeah. That's what I use right now, but that AllShare just seems a bit more... sexy.
Twonky Mobile app for Android
Check this out.. kinda same idea
http://www.twonky.com/products/twonkymobile/default.aspx
I am thinking probably not but still thought I would ask...
Presumably VLC will when/if it turns up on the market, but until then any ideas?

Actually Moboplayer is better.

Hi there. I was just curious as to what music app you can call your main on your Xoom? Is it the stock music app or something else?
Personally my main music app is PowerAMP Premium. It has a sleek interface, many options to configure, a built in equalizer that just makes the songs sound fantastic, an auto download of album art feature, and it allows you to go through your music by the folders you have them in rather than just by album or artist only. It can't get much better than that in my opinion. I only wish it had visualizations much like windows media player on a desktop. Come to think of it... I don't think I have seen a music app on the market that has music visualizations built into it. Is there a such thing right now?
So do you have another music app as your main? Or do you have the same one like I do? Share with us.
poweramp is definitely the must have music app for anyone who loves listening to music on their xoom so many features its worth the money
Personally I use Subsonic on every Android device I own.
Winamp is not bad for free. Album art grabber work's pretty well too

Fully agree. Have all my music on my computer anywhere in the world is just too good. If Google does eventually release their cloud service I may switch, but subsonic is just BOSS. I wouldn't recommended it to any not tech user but this is xda...

Mort player its in beta but its good try it out and I know for a paid app power amp works awesome don't know if its compatible with the xoom should be.

I got 20gb from Amazon, so I just uploaded all my music to the cloud and I'm using their cloudplayer. Works nicely, although it did take a few days for me to upload 18gigs of music. I don't have much of an upload speed :-/
Maybe it's just me, but I'm really digging the tablet music app. On my Nexus One I use PlayerPro.
I really don't use the Xoom for music anyways. I did add about 8 or 9 gb of my favorite music but so far, I hardly make use of it. Only time I listen to music is in my car (Nexus One to car stereo), or when I'm in my home office.
Definitely Audiogalaxy. It allows me to stream any of the 7,500+ music files (mostly FLAC) on my home PC to any of my android devices.
been using amazon cloud player on my xoom, easy way to keep most of my library accessible to me no matter where I am. right now I have like 8GB of songs on amazon cloud player, but even so I primarily use my Zune HD and zune pass for most of my music.
If you want a really cool and unique looking app check out cube (superscript 3) It has a very interesting UI and some neat add-ons like new releases and local live shows from artists in your library. But I also have the paid PowerAMP app

MusicPlayer Pro!

how about this... I would like to upload all my music to my website/FTPsite, is there a good app that will stream the music from there?
Pandora for me... I don't have much of a music collection
Power Amp fo sho! Well worth the money!
So far so good! Lots of good opinions and lots of good options. Some are using PowerAMP, some use a syncing method from computer to device, while others don't have much music and just stream from the internet. Good stuff! Keep 'em coming!
On a side note I do love to stream internet radio all the time. My app of choice for streaming Shoutcast stations is called XiiaLive, which was formerly know as DroidLive. I like the feel and look of it. I heard someone say Pandora as well... gotta love the Pandora!

What about subsonic? I havent tested it on a xoom but would be nice if someone tried it, you basically turn your pc into the server and your phone can access any songs in the library over a network connection 3G/wifi

Be careful with Pandora. They harvest and sell personal data:
http://socialtimes.com/pandora-under-investigation-for-sharing-your-personal-information_b55812
Im using Rhapsody. $15 a month unlimited music, 3 mobile devices authorized, (I use it on my OG Droid too) and it shares the library with those devices, and PC. You can download your playlists for offline playback which is great since I don't pay for 3G service on Xoom. Has radio playlists but probably not as good as pandora, but it doesn't steal your identity.
I was using Zunepass, but since this is my main device especially in my car, Zune has become irrelevant. Zune has nicer software, but doesn't have the library media mirroring like Rhapsody.
Not to mention there's no way to use it on an android device.
Since I too own very little music, rental services are great. I got scared by illegal downloads back when my University started identifying students to the RIAA (down and up speeds were unreal on campus, esp. after hours, they eventually capped them after I left) and they were being sued for $3000 per song! I figured the risk wasn't worth the reward.

I use stock music app on the xoom. And doubletwist on my nexus one. I like doubletwist for its stability and simpleness.

Hulu Plus comes to Android officially, but its not supported on the ThunderBolt
but yet, the Inspire 4G is a device that is supported. Why is it that we keep getting shunned on this great phone? First Netflix and now Hulu, the only one I care about out of the two is Hulu!!
I would rather have an official app than a hacked browser mod that runs like an app.
Any thoughts on having a fingerprint mod for the ThunderBolt to change fingerprint at will when needed?

was never really a fan of hulu...isn't it like netflix anyway so far as being able to watch shows?

The good thing about hulu is that its free (not hulu plus) and you can watch most shows a day after they air unlike waiting a year after they air to get the dvd from netflix.
hulu plus==waste of my time.
a hulu app (found in some dInc ROMs) that actually has content in app & doesn't require going to the website-----THAT is what gets my interest.
i don't need an app that requires 7.99/month
Yes, I got Hulu Plus for a while, and after a quick month unsubscribed. They "Constantly add new Hulu Plus content" by removing it, waiting a week, and re-adding it as "new." (at least this is how it ran last fall).
The free stuff on Hulu is mostly what I watch anyway; Top Chef, American Dad/Family Guy, House, etc.
I found that just going to hulu.com has been working just fine for me, though.
Hulu Plus broadcasts in HD/HQ, while Hulu doesn't. As far as Hulu vs. Netflix, the Hulu movie selection is almost non-exsistant (just an outrageous number of pot documentaries), but the TV shows selection is widening slowly. They do put the shows up days after air though, which is nice.
I use hulu plus over cable... Less commercials, most of the good tv shows, no need for dvr.
Only major downfall? No sports.
